In this episode, I catch you up, sorta, on the last 8 months of life. An update on what I've been working through as it pertains to current events, but mostly how my world looks as I dive into deeper knowing of myself. In reflection of allll of that, I share my experience with the themes of: My upgrade "moment" with nature, nature as us, and why I love my dog. "You don't know what you don't know and how it's influencing you, until you do, and then you can do something about it." Addiction to urgency and why it's my biggest challenge of the year How our triggers are catalysts of greater authenticity and healing Self-trust, why it matters, what happens when you don't connect with your intuition Boundaries & conscious time use Open-mindedness, flexibility, and releasing the need for absolute truths. Freedom in allowing self to change and how that frees us of projecting that on others Physical health does not exist in a vacuum IN THE EPISODE I MENTION: East Forest + Ram Dass "Nature" Human Design + Mentorship Services "Following your intuition doesn't mean it's going to always be easy" - Madi Baulch (that's me paraphrasing...) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
In this episode, I dive into what exploring TRUTH means for me right now. With all the "current events" and circumstances of 2020, I reflect on what I'm seeing, why it might be going on, and ultimately what I perceive as divine orchestration to push us to tune inward and connect with our souls. It's a little our there, but my hope is that we all start to come home to our own truths, as revealed through our unique soul make-ups and the circumstances that stir us. I would love to know how you are interpreting these times, whether you are in camp "Freedom Over Anything" or camp People + Planet. In this ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY episode of the All Tides Podcast, I reflect on the last year - my Jesus year - and all that’s changed since I pressed record on my first episode. I work through a long, winding story of what rolling my ankles has allowed me to understand about strength / flexibility. I talk about the shifts that occurred, both body and soul, and I go into what my sovereignty has meant for my faith and ability to love and show compassion. It’s weird, it’s energy, it’s me. HBD to me. What I don’t talk about is what’s next for me and for Lake Effect Co., and that’s because I don’t know! I’m truly giving myself the space to figure that out as the time goes. It’s also a fully self-reflective episode, so if that’s not your jam, steer clear! I guess we'll call this the final episode of Season 1. A reflection of the past few months, looking at the dance between/around/through sovereignty, shame, safety, truth & soul. After recording this, I re-listened to episode 22, which was also about sovereignty, but this episode is by no means similar to episode 22. Haha! I talk openly about the state of business, state of my "home," and how looking deeply at and working with my soul the last few months has changed everything. Coming to you live from day 7 of the shop being closed due to the coronavirus, and this has felt like the longest and shortest week of life - also, maybe the most challenging and yet peaceful. I wanted to share a reflection of the state of things and what I’m doing to stay healthy both physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I touch on: - how this feels like a shift from individual to collective focus - how to navigate the pressure to do alllll the things right now: meditate, workout, read, start a business. I suggest turning to trusting your own gut to know what you need and when you need it. - the beauty of both giving and receiving support and looking at life through the lens of “how can I serve others / the collective?” and knowing you can do this best when you first are taking care of yourself. - Is this all about healing our heart chakra? - affirming: “I am safe, I am supported. People want to see me succeed. I am part of something larger than myself. I am taken care of. I am enough. I have enough. All is well. I trust the process. I trust the universe. I trust God. I trust myself. I trust I always know what to do.” MY constants that have moved me through this week: - Each night checking in on the blue mind book club. Seeing the ocean is cathartic. Hearing about water feels beautiful. facebook.com/wallacejnichols - Movement - walks, yoga, whatever i feel like vs. having a set routine. THOUGH following a routine if that’s what is right for you. -D aily meditation & prayer - Lots of writing - business and otherwise - Sporadic breathwork - Checking in with people - receiving and giving support when I can. Creating strong boundaries around this as well. - Laughing & getting into the feelings of joy. AKA: dolphins in the venice canals. All the really heroic and kind gestures being shared. UPDATE: Apparently the dolphins aren't real. SAD. - Cold water swims as the ice is now off the lake - Telling myself that i’m safe and healthy, as often as i need to hear it. - Daily hypnosis and sound healing frequencies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXQ7-6XopUk And https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja4tqY2LfZk TIPS I wrote a post on this, so take a look there fore more links. Take some deep breaths, get comfy, and enjoy the magic of the water for a 10 minute guided meditation. \ Aren’t ripples, waves, and disruptions to the surface of water simply part of being the water experience? Instead of seeing those changes at the surface as all you identify with, can you also recognize that you may actually be the entire body of water, including the depths, the stillness below, the movement, the calm. All the changes, conflicting parts that somehow fit together perfectly? These are all just gentle undulations in the scheme of lake things. Life, meditation, most experiences can also be viewed in this way - the changes and ripples are expected but as we are the whole body of water, and not just the surface, we can be in touch with the stillness below the surface. We can acknowledge the constant change, with ebbs and flows. There is calm available in and below the surface of our minds. The water reminds us of the power within ourselves. Allow the water to be with you, empowering you and guiding your actions as you flow through every day. You have a reserve of mindfulness within you that you can call upon. You can go to the water - literally and physically or just in your mind - to come back to this knowing. When we simply sit, and be, we affirm our ability to relax in awareness and in acceptance, in this moment at hand, all our the unique qualities of mind and body, just as the water are held, truly cradled and contained by our grounding earth, reflecting our beautiful sun, moon, stars, trees, rocks, clouds, sky, birds, light, moved by air or wind, bringing out and highlighting its sparkle, its vitality, its potential, moment by moment… --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
Hey friends, how are you doing right now? There’s a lot of weird energy around the coronavirus situation, and instead of allowing ourselves to get wrapped up in this overwhelmed state, I am urging you to take a breath and check-in with yourself to see how you’re feeling. I’m not downplaying the seriousness of the virus, we have a responsibility to be on top of the situation and be smart when out and about, but I am suggesting that we bring focus on keeping ourselves healthy - physically and energetically. In this week’s episode of The All Tides Podcast, I am sharing how I went down a social media induced fear spiral about all the news, how it quickly affected my energy and physiology, and the headspace that helped me shift out of it. I share what I feel like was the message my soul wanted me to hear about surrender and faith. Ultimately, it inspired me to come up with an approach on how to navigate my life and stay true to my purpose during these times, even when my financial livelihood feels compromised and it’s tempting to join the mass panic. After my post-breathwork “energetic breakthrough” that I shared about last week, I found myself feeling pulled back into a lower state of mind a few times over the weekend, where I felt energetically heavy and unaligned. This felt like extreme contrast to the high of my newfound “truths” and what I was choosing to believe in, and it felt disappointing to have fallen back into this state. My initial response to this lower state of being and just flat out funky energy was to switch to judgmental thoughts of shame -- that is until I went to the lake. It was after time by the water that I realized that it is natural for one moment to feel divine while the next can feel like energetic chaos. It’s not a sign of personal failure or defeat, but rather a huge beam of clarity that can only come by feeling the contrast of something that isn’t in alignment with yourself. In this episode I walk through two instances of shifting out of that state, what it required and what I learned, and ultimately how I feel like one such visit to the water changed my state of mind allowing a really interesting series of events including, a surprise visit from Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, the author of The Blue Mind, who came out of his way to visit the shop while he was on the way to a conference. While chatting,he provided me with tremendous insight on my work and the importance of differentiation mindset vs. mind state which felt tremendously serendipitous after the shift of my own mental state by the lake that morning. Listen into this episode to hear more about the difference between mindset and mindstate and the importance it plays in shifting your energy. Welcome back to The All Tides Podcast! I started this year, yet again, putting big pressure on myself and getting lost in the frantic trying-to-do-all-the-things energy, which was not how I was planning on starting this year. So, I decided to sloooooow right down and come back to myself by focusing on my breath and spending time with water. The cold kind. After completing about a month of focused breathwork along with one particularly intense and spectacular workshop, I feel like I am no longer swimming upstream (you know I love a good water pun!). I’ve been downloading so much wisdom (is it mine? Is it God? What’s happening? ;) ) and have written pages upon pages in my journal. So, I am sharing some insights with you in this episode. I invite you to listen in to learn what taking up space, water, breath, and business have to do with one another. Lake Effect Co. is officially partnered with 1% for the Planet! Our work with FLOW, business practices, and community connections more than qualified us to be a 1% for the Planet company, and we are so proud to be a part of this worthwhile organization. To celebrate this new partnership and the first sunny weather after weeks of cloudy weather in Milwaukee, I went out for a lovely walk to view a truly epic sunrise that ended up throwing my morning a bit sideways, which meant that I had to choose a less sustainable lunch option than I usually would. This lack of planning on my part sent me into a downward shame spiral on my own consumption habits, which led me to feel a bit of hopelessness around the state of the environment. It can easily feel like we’re making no environmental improvements no matter what positive sustainable changes we make in our lifestyles, which in turn leads to feelings of shame and hopelessness. This helps no one, and I want to help put a stop to it right now! Listen in to this episode as I talk about green-shaming (both humans and businesses) and about how gracefully striving towards more sustainable options is always the best way forward. In this episode, I chat about about: Feeling empowered to make sustainable options instead of helpless around making any beneficial environmental changes Educating and preparing yourself to live more sustainable Removing the guilt and shame from our current non-environmentally friendly practices and granting yourself with grace as you move towards more sustainable options Resources from the Episode In this episode, I mentioned the following quotes and resources: 1% for the Planet FLOW Just Stay Sustainable Challenge Our team member, Madisyn - Just Stay Stoked Milwaukee Recycling Guide “Fail to plan, plan to fail.” Simplifying Life with Multi-Use Products This week’s question is: How can you gracefully strive for a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
In the last episode, I talked about how following a few pings allowed me to do something for the business that I’d been wanting to do for a few reats, which was managing a booth at the Milwaukee Boat Show. So, I did the thing, and I am not sure if it made the impact I was hoping for... The weather made traffic at the show lower than expected and there were a lot of mixed energy of vendors and attendees at the show that felt unaligned and negative to me. Instead of getting caught up in the frustration of the event not meeting my expectations, I let myself surrender control so that I could focus on being present and allowing my energy to flow where it wanted to so I could instead dwell in possibility. It was definitely a good lesson in that even though the value in presence doesn’t immediately show, doesn’t mean that it will never show. In past times when the disappointment of unmet expectations came I allowed myself to be sucked down by the influx of frustration and negative energy. This time I decided to approach it differently. I instead devoted my energy to gratitude. I was forced to loosen up and be present and let go of control of everything except for the control of my own alignment. Sometimes it comes down to setting and resetting the right expectations and trusting the divine timing of life to let us know what we need to be present for. So, please listen in as I go on about all things energy of presence and how that contributes to our legacy. In this episode, I chat about about: Setting, reframing, and surrendering your expectations The legacy that we want our presence to leave behind The energy we are presenting in this world Resources from the Episode In this episode, I mentioned the following quotes and resources: Kundalini yoga - the kriya I’ve been practicing for 50+ days now is the Gyan Chakra Kriya. Throughout the week, my cousin and I kept hearing “Bones” by Hozier & Marren Morris. Happy New Year and thank you for joining me for the first episode of 2020! With each start of the new year we always feel the “new year, new you” push where we feel like we have to start taking control of each part of our lives to make this year our “best year yet”. I’m pushing back against that noise and, in this episode, I’m sharing about how instead of trying to control more aspects of my life, I’m shifting the focus to let go and truly give myself the permission for my life to flow. This episode starts with my expansion on my final Instagram post in 2019 on letting go and how this year was the first year in my life where I felt I was able to achieve that perfect level of flow, show up how I wanted to without judgement, and surrender the rest during our busy and obligation filled holiday season. During the final week of the year, I truly got lost in breath work and found myself in a state of being where I felt like I had let go of control. It was in this loss of control that I was able to clear blocks and stories that I’ve been telling myself that are no longer true. So, as you listen to this episode, I urge you to reflect back on the past decade and think about what you are choosing to let go of with the start of this new year. Choose to create a new story. Let this new year wash you clean, but remember that you can allow this beautiful act of surrender to happen at any time and not just at the start of the new year. This solstice Saturday we are celebrating Lake Effect Co’s 3 year anniversary, and while I had an idea of what I wanted to do with this podcast episode and this milestone, I'm actually going to talk about something totally different. :) In last week’s episode when I shared all the events coming up, both in and out of the store, I knew that I was going to call upon all of my effort to make it through. That wasn't untrue and I've been a bit beat up as a result. It turns out Intentional December taught me that I actually need to be more intentional with my time - that I have a lot to learn about energy dynamics and how stuffing my calendar and mind (and not allowing a true contraction or clearing of what's happening in my headspace) doesn't lend well for expansion. So, in this episode, I walk through my personal experience with contraction/expansion and my decision not to act until there is enough quiet and downtime to be sure it’s truly what I should be saying and doing. This episode I am sharing my contraction, my hard look within myself, so that I can return and expand with intention. In this episode, I muse about: How cold water helps us reset our systems when we are stressed and in a low vibrational state Leaving intentional space for ourselves Planning with intention instead of reacting with frantic and stressful energy Allowing yourself to contract and look within yourself so that you can expand with intention You know what you need. Ever wonder what it’s like for a small business owner during the crazy Thanksgiving and Black Friday holiday madness? Wonder no more, because this week I’m sharing what it was like for me and the important lessons I learned. I’ve been fighting off a cold for the past few weeks and it finally hit me with full force on Thanksgiving Thursday, which meant that I wasn’t able to join in on the Thanksgiving activities with my family, and I was forced to have some alone time. What I didn’t expect was how amazing that alone time truly was, as it allowed me to make space for all the feelings and find deep gratitude by myself with a walk along the lake. We often hear that if something isn’t a 100% yes for us then it should be a no, but life doesn’t always allow for that option. This past week showing up and working through my sickness definitely didn’t feel like a 100% yes for me, but sometimes we have to push ourselves to do those hard things, because when you feel strongly about something in your heart you feel compelled to do something about it. So, my passion led me through pushing through this trying week and show up as I am - sickness and all. So, when things get crazy for you this holiday season, because let’s face it - holiday seasons are always at least a little bit crazy for everyone, remember to come back to your purpose to reconnect to your why and give yourself the strength to continue on and decide how you want to show up. Lead with the heart, and remind yourself that you are stronger than you think. In this episode, I muse about: - Leading from the heart - What we do when things don’t go as planned - Using gratitude to raise our vibration - Breaking patterns of fear that keep us from reaching our full potential Join the Conversation A weekly podcast is great, but the conversations that happen after keep this fun going. This week’s question is: What are your true matters of the heart? Follow and embrace that and let your true heart matters dictate how you prioritize your time. This is very much a busy season in life right now, and I am FEELING it. I’ve been in the space of forcing myself to be productive and in all of this forcing, it's interesting to pause to think about the ebb and flow of the seasons in our life. There is ebb and flow to everything. We are so used to the force and the push, but what if we start making space for ease and treating it with just as much importance? I want to make sure that when I push myself I am pushing myself with the intention of moving towards one of my core desires. Give yourself permission to go with the flow. Push when you want to, but also make space take breaks. From moment to moment, pay attention and feel what your body is needing. In the moments when life feels like it’s not in flow, pay attention. This is likely a lesson you need to learn to know when what you’re doing is not right for you. When you find yourself in these times of force and misalignment show gratitude and go into everything with intention and the faith that what’s for you will not pass you. In this episode, I muse about: - Being intentional and making space for ebbs and flow - How the seasons we’re in can influence how we perceive the situations - Building our life around our core desired feelings - How gratitude plays such an important part in allowing us to go with the flow Join the Conversation A weekly podcast is great, but the conversations that happen after keep this fun going. This week’s question is: Question: The next time you feel like you are stressed out and pushing in this busy season stop and ask: what is something I can do right now to have more fun? Over the past five years or so I’ve really done some deep thinking and feeling on how I show up and give during the holiday season. Society really pushes us to give and buy more than we’re able and it feels wasteful and unaligned with my values, but I’ve been struggling with finding an alternate way to show up for the holidays. So, in this week’s episode, I’m talking about how we can align our values with the way we show up and give during the holiday season. Our actions spread messages on how we feel around worth and gifts, and I challenge you to take a step back and think about how you want your impact on the world, in both big and small ways, to be this holiday season. In this episode, I muse about: - Aligning our values with the way we show up and give during the holiday season - Giving eco-conscious and alternative gifts - Recognizing why we are taking the action we’re taking during the holiday season - How our behaviour around the holidays influences and programs our kids’ feelings around the holidays Join the Conversation A weekly podcast is great, but the conversations that happen after keep this fun going. This week’s question is: Question: How do you want to embrace the spirit of the holiday season this year? Are there changes you can make right away to align with your values? It’s getting to that time of year again, and if you’re someone who is feeling any heaviness, sadness, resentment, or apprehension heading into this holiday season this episode is so here for you. This past week I’ve been stuck in a resentful state around holiday consumerism and it wasn’t until I forgave myself and those who were causing this inner extra-emo state that I was finally able to shift my energy and recommit myself to what I know to be true. In this episode I share my Change Your Vibrational Energy Journaling Ritual that allowed me to become present to these thoughts and emotions, forgive and interrupt the negativity, and finally move my energy back to a higher vibrational state. Sending you lots of love as we head into a very emotionally triggering season for many. Change Your Vibrational Energy Journaling Ritual Before you begin ask your subconscious mind to acknowledge anything that is keeping you from being present and clear minded in this moment. Either take a few moments to write down anything that comes up or simply thank your subconscious for keeping you safe and prepared for everything that you do, but know that you can let these thoughts go for now, because they will come back when the time is right. Surrender to the experience of exploring your emotional state, especially heading into the holiday season. Forgive whatever comes up, and know you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be and give yourself grace and gratitude for showing up for yourself right now. - How do I talk to myself? - With Gentleness? Am I kind? Would I talk to my best friend this way? Would I talk to a child this way? - Are there any unresolved issues, relationships or general conflicts in my life? - Where am I at cause for them - meaning, if I truly take a deeper look, is there something I’m allowing to happen? Am I inviting this conflict in due to something I’m struggling with? - Is there someone or something - in the above conflict or not - that I should forgive? - Is there a physical ailment, symptom or situation going on for me that may be an indication of some lower vibration energy that needs my attention? - What are my dreams and visions for my life? - How does my life look compared to how I want it to look? - Is there something I’m at cause for here that I should be paying attention to? What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I ask myself if there’s something that I need. Don’t overthink it, your subconscious has the answers. - What are some of the most persistent and common emotions you experience? Do we like those emotions? - If yes, celebrate that. If not, what are the ones we want to feel? What are things we can do in the next season, or always, that help us access that state? - Going into the holidays, are there some boundaries you can put up that will allow you to protect your emotional state. Thanks for joining me for another episode and for a little reminder that There’s power in our stories. There’s magic in the water. In this episode, I muse about: - Staying present in the holiday season and bringing ourselves back to committing to what we know to be true - How disease is influenced by our emotional scale How water shows us how our vibrational energy affects us at a cellular level - How forgiveness interrupts negativity and allows us to move better vibrational energy Join the Conversation: A weekly podcast is great, but the conversations that happen after keep this fun going. This week’s question is: How could forgiveness bring ease into this holiday season? HOLY SMOKES, we made it through episode four. This recording only required one re-record, so we’re calling it a win. But I am SO happy to talk about one of my favorite concepts, and maybe like, THE concept of my life - CHASE MORE SUNSETS! Thanks for joining me for another episode and for a little reminder that There’s power in our stories. There’s magic in the water. In this episode, I muse about: - What the concept of Chase More Sunsets means - Why I think we both literally and figuratively need to embrace this concept - How I fell off the joy-wagon during a busy season and took the wrong parts of life seriously. - Ways you can determine the activities you love, and by using the why’s of them, you can create sustainable, year-round approaches to feeling those feelings. - Four steps to getting in more “nature” in your life, regardless of the season Join the Conversation A weekly podcast is great, but the conversations that happen after keep this fun going. This week’s question is: Question: How will you implement the concept of “sunset-chasing”? AKA THE thing that you want to build into your daily/weekly routine because it gives you the feelings you love. In Episode Three of the All Tides Podcast, I talk about what I’m thinking about for the year ahead as I celebrate my 33rd Birthday - or as some call it, the Jesus year - and how my mission is showing up. I also interpret 5 ways that water is an excellent healer, and how those themes are showing up in my life. In this episode, I get into: - The backstory of the Jesus year concept and my hunch as to what this upcoming year is about for me, and I think a lot of it hinges on teaching this concept of water as our healer, breaking down all the various ways that it is, and inspiring you to find what you connect to. - The top 5 water-healing concepts I’m working with and why: cleanse, surrender/flow, finding power in softening, present-living, and embracing Blue Mind. - What living in that state opens us up for - epic flow state downloads, productivity, etc. - My thought that if we truly value these lessons from the water, can we use this as fuel for our water conservation efforts? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
In Episode Two of the All Tides Podcast, I go into my approach to meditation, as well as share a lake-centric meditation to get you out of your head, with compassion, and use the scenes of any lake that comes to mind.. In this episode, I get into: - Some reasons why we feel so good when we’re in/around/under water and whether water time “counts” as meditation - Definition of Blue Mind (and snag a signed copy of the Blue Mind book by Wallace J Nichols here): “A mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peace, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in the moment.” - A few notes from our first Blue Mind Book Club, including the mention of these two quotes that I couldn’t find during the recording: - This is from one book club participant Jackie, who we’ve nicknamed the Village Keeper because she keeps us up to speed on all things Pewaukee - the little strip where our shop is located in Wisconsin AND has a heart for preserving the charm of this area when asked what she feels when standing by the edge of water, “It really just clears your whole being. You feel connected to something greater than yourself” - “Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.” – Chief Seattle, Duwamish - Tips and suggestions on how to make meditation work for you - not just work for you, but how to make it fun and tailored to your preferences. - I end the episode with a 10 minute guided lake-centric meditation. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
I am over-the-moon excited that you’re here with me - and while I start out a lil rocky in this first one, I promise it’s worth it if you stick with me past the first couple minutes. If you’ve followed Lake Effect Co. or myself for awhile, you’ve heard me wax on about how in love I am with water. Water heals me, shapes me, and is the core of both myself and the Lake Effect Co. brand. I’ve now created The All Tides Podcast as a way to continue to serve you with my words and stories and the words and stories of my guests. I plan on sharing how living with the water and nature impacts life, inspires me, and allows me to thrive in whatever situation I find myself in. In this episode, I muse about: - The “why” behind The All Tides Podcast - Being of service - What thriving means to me - And allllllll the water metaphors to bring to your life - I say “full disclosure” 43 times and work with a really obnoxious echo. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/all-tides/support
