The Battlefield Letter

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 16, 2026 40:22

This sermon introduces the book of Jude as a critical 'battlefield letter' for the last days, urging believers to earnestly contend for the faith against rising apostasy. The speaker traces the historical and theological context of Jude, highlighting his identity as a humble servant of Christ and his connection to the early church leadership, including his brother James. Key themes include the danger of false teachers who pervert grace into licentiousness, illustrated by biblical examples such as Israel, Sodom, and Korah. The message emphasizes a dual mandate: to defend the truth with conviction while simultaneously exercising compassion to rescue those caught in deception. The sermon concludes with the assurance that God preserves believers from falling, enabling them to stand faultless before His glory with exceeding joy. Questions: Why is Jude called a battlefield letter for the last days? What does Jude mean by "earnestly contend for the faith"? Was Jude the half-brother of Jesus? Why does Jude call himself a servant of Jesus instead of His brother? When did James and Jude become believers in Jesus? Was Antiochus Epiphanes a prototype of the Antichrist? What does Jude teach about apostasy in the last days? How should Christians contend for truth without losing compassion for people? What does "some have compassion, making a difference" mean in Jude 22? What does "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling" mean? Did the resurrection change Jesus' brothers from unbelievers into believers? Why did the risen Jesus personally appear to James? How did James the brother of Jesus die? How did Jude the brother of Jesus die? Was Jude's real name Judas?

The Seven Last Plagues

The sermon focuses on the imminent return of Christ and the impending judgment described in Revelation chapters 15 and 16. It details the seven last plagues as the fulfillment of God's wrath against a world steeped in sin and rebellion against His commandments. The preacher contrasts the ultimate destruction awaiting those who reject Christ with the victory and assurance found by believers who stand on the finished work of Jesus. Emphasis is placed on the urgency of repentance, warning that time is running out for salvation before the day of judgment arrives. The message concludes with a passionate appeal for listeners to accept Christ as Savior to escape eternal condemnation and secure their place in glory.

The sermon critiques a Sunday school lesson for misinterpreting Psalm 49, arguing that the text is not about the rich versus poor but rather a parable concerning Jews during the tribulation period. It emphasizes that individuals are victims of their own sins rather than external adversaries and asserts that wealth cannot purchase salvation or redeem one's soul. The preacher distinguishes between the rapture of the church and the future resurrection, warning against trusting in riches or good works for eternal life. Ultimately, the message underscores that only the blood of Jesus provides redemption and that rejecting Him leads to inevitable judgment.

The sermon argues that the papacy fulfills the biblical identity of the Antichrist not through explicit rejection of Christ, but via indirect denial through false doctrines and practices. By examining passages such as 1 John 2 and Titus 1:16, the text demonstrates that one can profess faith while simultaneously denying Christ's true nature, unique mediatorial office, and finished work. The speaker contends that Roman Catholic teachings on transubstantiation, the veneration of saints, and the re-sacrifice in the Mass effectively rob Jesus of His offices and sole headship over the church. This theological analysis serves to refute objections that the Pope cannot be the Antichrist because he verbally affirms Christ's divinity. Finally, the message urges believers to examine their own lives for similar indirect denials through hypocrisy and unrepentant sin, pointing to Christ's ongoing intercession as the sole source of hope.

Why does Jesus tell His followers to run when the "abomination of desolation" appears? Can you outrun God's judgment—and if God's wrath is not directed at His people, why does Jesus tell them to flee and pray? Jesus moves from the "beginning of pains" to the terrifying period of tribulation associated with the abomination of desolation. In the Olivet Discourse, we examine what the abomination of desolation means, its connection to Daniel, its partial fulfillment in the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, and its apparent future fulfillment at the end of the age. We also explore the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist, God's purpose in judgment, and the surprising biblical connection between tribulation and God's mercy. The sermon warns against false prophets and the dangerous allure of hyper-dispensationalism, which distorts biblical truth through conspiracy theories and works-based salvation. It emphasizes that the true gospel is a free message of grace for the poor, contrasting it with religious systems that demand financial payment or boastful adherence to rituals. The speaker argues that God allows deceptive signs and wonders to test humanity's loyalty, ultimately leading many to worship false gods or alien entities. Key passages like Deuteronomy 13 and 2 Thessalonians 2 illustrate the coming falling away and the revelation of the man of sin once divine mercy is withdrawn. The central message urges believers to reject these deceptions and cling solely to the unadulterated good tidings of Jesus Christ.

The sermon identifies the papacy as the Antichrist prophesied in 1 John 2:18, arguing that this title denotes one who claims to be in the place of Christ rather than merely opposing Him. By analyzing the Greek preposition 'anti' and the Latin term 'vicar,' the text demonstrates how the Pope usurps the unique headship and authority belonging solely to Jesus Christ. The speaker contrasts this ecclesiastical usurpation with the biblical offices established by Christ in Ephesians 4, rejecting any human hierarchy as a substitute for divine leadership. Furthermore, the message applies this theological truth inwardly, urging believers to reject the prideful desire for self-rule and submit their consciences exclusively to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Key themes include the danger of an evil heart of unbelief, the protection of children below the age of accountability, and the ultimate destruction of all enemies by Jesus. The message urges believers to hold fast to their confidence in God until the end, rejecting deceitful sin and relying solely on Scripture.

The sermon emphasizes that keeping God's commandments is the definitive evidence of abiding in Christ and loving Him, countering modern theological trends that minimize the law. It argues that grace imposes stricter moral standards than the Old Testament law, particularly regarding the condition of the heart. The preacher identifies a pervasive spirit of antichrist in contemporary culture and even within churches, characterized by teachings that deny Jesus Christ's physical resurrection or contradict biblical absolutes. True discernment requires testing all spirits against Scripture rather than relying on emotional experiences or cultural norms. Ultimately, believers are called to submit to God's Word, recognizing that the new creation in Christ naturally desires obedience and truth.

The last empire which is the Fourth Gentile Empire is being judged (vv. 11–12). In verse 11, it is the fourth beast, particularly the little horn (The Antichrist) that is judged and his body is destroyed. Regarding the other three empires (v. 12) this is stated: First, their dominion was taken away; and Second, their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. The exact meaning of this will follow. Third this vision is of God the Father, ready to proceed with judgment against the Fourth Empire.
