Of all the powers that ruled and fought for control of the Ancient Middle East, Persia was the one nation that Israel never engaged in conflict with. A Look at Our Current SituationThere is so much bloodshed and brutality taking place between Israel and Hamas, that many have been looking for comparisons between what's happening today and the Gog and Magog invasion of Israel found in Ezekiel 38 and 39. And the similarities are striking.Ezekiel foretells an end-times invasion of Israel led by Gog, ruler of Magog, along with Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer, and other nations. It also reveals that God providentially brings this vast alliance down to invade Israel, only to judge them harshly. And I mean, really harshly. Sodom and Gomorrah harshly.Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. Today we talk about the rise, the policies, the downfall and the legacy of Reza Khan, the founder of the Pahlavi dynasty. Under his rule, Iran was irrevocably transformed. Many of these changes still resonate today. Perhaps his most enduring legacy, is the struggle between Mosque and State, especially over the issue of the chador, or hijab. This is a matter of worldwide controversy to this day, and this episode in Iran's history may teach us valuable lessons about its nature. It also illustrates just how difficult it is to tackle such issues. The episode starts and ends with a world war: while the first brought Reza Khan to power, the second brought him down. For the Iranian population as a whole, these were two traumatizing experiences. They make the enduring mistrust of the outside world more understandable. And they bring some more nuance of our idea of World War II as being a fight between Good and Evil.

The ancient Jewish community of Persia/Iran is one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world. The site of the Purim story and many Biblical and Talmudic era luminaries, it continued to flourish through times of stability and persecution. One of the great rabbinical leaders in the city of Hamedan, Iran in modern times was Chacham Mola David Sasson Rabban (1879-1974). As rabbi of the community he oversaw its growth and later decline in mid 20th century to widespread emigration, while corresponding with rabbis across Iran and in neighboring Iraq. He also ran the local Otzar Hatorah school, which was part of network of traditional Jewish education which facilitated the renaissance of Jewish life in Iran and later in Iranian diaspora Jewish communities. If you've never studied the teachings of Zoroastrianism I highly suggest these episodes. It occurred to me during my conversation with Sharooz Ash that this religion seems to be a fascinating middle ground between the religions of the Dharma (Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.) & the Abrahamic (Judaism, Christianity, etc.). Parsis, (as they are also called) were forced out of Persia (Iran), & settled in India, where they thrive, in terms of literacy, employment, social standing, etc. Seriously, give these a good listening to!

By Davy Crockett During the very late 1800s, people from various countries started to attempt to walk around the world for attention, money, and fame. In Part 2 of this series on walking around the world, I shared many stories of “fakes” who took advantage of the American public by traveling around the midwest United States claiming to be on treks around the world, but making little or no effort to actually leave the States. However, others at that time made more sincere attempts and successfully did extended walking on multiple continents, accompanied by newspaper stories confirming their presence in different countries. Several walkers were well-educated and certainly not the typical tramps and drunks that were highlighted in Part 2. Some of the individuals covered in this article became famous as explorers and were given credit for conducting valid walks around the world. But did they actually do it? What was their motivation for spending months and years in this activity? What did they do with their lives after their walk? Here are five intriguing stories of individuals who became very famous. They were a Russian, a Frenchman, a Greek. and two Americans. Konstantin Rengarten – Russian walker - 1894 Konstantin Konstantinovich Rengarten (1864-1906) was born in the Baltics in the Minsk province (today in Belarus). His father was a district overseer of a tax department. He became a ship boy and was an athlete in high school. He was fond of traveling and at an early age went to Western Europe, Asia, and Africa. He longed to walk around the world and spent ten years preparing for the journey. Rengarten started a walk around the world west to east from Riga, Russia (capital of present-day Latvia) on August 15, 1894. He was highly educated, rich, well-funded, and represented ten German newspapers and magazines, five that were published in Russia including the St. Petersburg Herold. He would regularly write columns to be published. He would also ship back home "all manner of specimens, rare and interesting, that are duly arranged and classified by his wife, who is an ardent scientific student." He spoke German, French, Russian, and a little English. He expected to walk for three years. Nikolai Greinert volunteered to go with him. Unlike most of the other globetrotters of the time, Rengarten did not travel due to a wager and paid he his own way instead of expecting locals to always support him. When they crossed through Ukraine, the rainy season slowed them down terribly. Greinert gave up and returned to Riga. Rengarten continued alone. In his backpack he carried climbing equipment, woolen underwear, a camel-wrap, a gun, a large hunting knife, a cooking pot, a camera, and a small supply of food. More than a year later, on October 9, 1895, he arrived at Tashkent in present-day Ubekistan, about 4,000 miles to the east. His pace was about 10 miles per day average. He had taken a route through South Russia, to the Black Sea, across the Caucasus Mountains (in Georgia), across Persia (Iran). At Armenia, the Kurds believed that he was a great physician. The lame, halt and blind flocked to him for treatment. “Rengarten wears only woolen clothes, and for the most part adopts the foot-wear used in the countries through which he passes. During the whole journey he has not once had to call in the advice of a doctor, but he has lost a good deal of weight." During Rengarten’s walk through Persia (Iran), he observed terrible conditions and he found their customs abominable. He said, “all women and girls from 10 years up are absolute slaves, while the male part are lazy, filthy, vile barbarians. The Persian prisons are veritable hells, where the government takes no responsibility except to incarcerate the victims.” His pace through Persia was faster, where he walked 1,100 miles in 70 days, 110 miles per week. He had to spend several nights sleeping in sheds and stables.

However, President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran deal and placed hard sanctions once again against Iran. If, however, no advantageous benefits are to be realized from the USA, Iran can still attack Israel; all the while having created BOTH a situation of non-apprehension while creating more bombs. And not just win … but defeat Israel's enemies so badly that the world will recognize that God is the LORD. ■ WHO ARE NOT ALIGNED AGAINST ISRAEL IN EZEKIEL 38–39 BATTLE In Ezekiel Chapter 38, there is NO mention of Israel’s neighbors joining in allegiance with the powers from the North. NO mention of: Lebanon Egypt Saudi Arabia Syria Jordan Iraq Palestinians The conflict described in Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39 involves the powers from the North. “Son of man, set your face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, This is what the Lord GOD says; Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn you back, and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you forth, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armor, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling weaponry: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with you.” ‒ Ezekiel 38:2-6 NOTICE: Magog is a people group, while Gog is a Satanically inspired leader of that people. Wilhelm Gesenius was a renowned German Biblical critic and pioneer of critical Hebrew lexicography and grammar. Here is his analysis of the “movers and shakers” in this passage. “Meshech was a barbarous people known as Moschi who dwelt in the Moschian mountains; the root from which the city of Moscow [derived] its name.” However, Mushki (MŠK) of central and western Asia Minor, known in the classics (Homer, etc.) as Phrygia, fits very well. These people were well known to Ezekiel, and this may be the easier interpretation We know that Persia is synonymous with present day Iran. Tubal, Gomer and Togarmah represent sections of Turkey. ■ WHAT IS EZEKIEL SAYING TODAY Read carefully Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39. Then compare what you have read with the following synopsis. I think you will agree. Russia, Turkey, Iran and other Middle East and North East African nations will form an alliance to attack Israel. God will defeat this alliance of Magog and others on the hills of Israel, and leave only 17 percent of them. It will take seven months to bury the dead bodies, and seven years to burn the implements of war (probably radioactive elements). The victory for Israel will be so great and miraculous that ALL nations will realize that the God of Israel is the LORD. “Thus says the Lord GOD; Are you, Gog, the one of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring you against them? And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, says the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. ADVICE FOR ISRAEL AND THE IDF History and demographics show us that whenever there is a large youth population, there is a revolution. In Iran, 70% of the population is under 35. The economy is in the basement: 35% of people are unemployed. Inflation is over 20% per annum. Iran is flush with huge oil reserves and cash, but a refinery shortage leaves it heavily dependent on imported gasoline and diesel to keeps its cars and trucks rolling. This is why it's afraid of sanctions … and why Iran is afraid of what refineries it does have being blown up by Israel. Since Achmadinejad took office in Iran: Unemployment rose 6.5%; Inflation rose 11%; Iran sanctioned by UN 3 times; and 300% jump in executions. Most of the economic factors started before the recent global economic collapse. Russia (the U.S.S.R.) fell largely because of the media. Iran's “mullahs of manure” are next. WHAT TO WATCH FOR: A weakening of the Islamic Theocracy due to the media and social networking such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc. However, a rise in Islamic militancy by independent terrorist groups against the West ... and against established "West friendly" Islamic governments. TIME, ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE, AND TRUE RELATIONSHIPS MUSIC / INTRO In the area of quantum physics, time and relationship is of primal importance. Many theories relating to time have been developed over the years. Probably the most famous is that developed by Albert Einstein: the theory of relativity. I read his work as a young boy. The derived formula "E = mc2," or "energy equals mass times the velocity of light squared," was praised for decades as the frontier of thought in this area; however, scientific postulation and research has leaned toward discrediting part, if not all, of this theory UNTIL recently. At The University of Excellence, we study how new frontiers in time and space, along with new postulations in string theory by cosmologists-physicists such as Brian Greene, push even unbelieving scientists to wonder what was before the "Big Bang." Jules Verne was the co-founder of science fiction along with H.G. Wells. He wrote about airplanes, submarines, and spacecraft. Verne's most popular stories include From the Earth to the Moon (1865), A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Robur the Conqueror. H.G. Wells was an English novelist who wrote more than 50 novels. Some of his writings were The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898). He wrote about videocassette players, computers, overcrowded cities, superhighways, television, military airplanes, tanks, and about cities being bombed. He also wrote about space flight. The basic principles of the time machine which Wells wrote about contained materials regarding time as the fourth dimension. Later, in the 20th Century, Albert Einstein published his theory of the four-dimensional continuum of space time. Embodied in Einstein's theory was the premise that if you could travel at the velocity of light (186,000 miles per second) you could attain "timelessness." It's interesting to reflect upon the fact that Messiah Jesus is THE LIGHT … and He is timeless. He is the Alpha and the Omega: the Beginning and the End. He can travel at the VELOCITY OF LIGHT or faster. When He returns to redeem Israel and establish His kingdom, He will appear as the "lightning from the east to the west." "For as the lightning comes out of the east and shines even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Matthew 24:27) Jesus told the Pharisees, "Before Abraham was, I am." (John 8:58) MUSIC Scientific ideas and exploration, such as Einstein's theory of relativity, have developed since science fiction writing appeared. Many scientists have probably gleaned IDEAS from these writings. Arthur C. Clarke was the inventor of communication satellites. He first explored this idea in a 1945 technical paper titled "Extraterrestrial Relays." Clarke also wrote the three Odyssey sequels. Many times Clarke has guessed well ahead of time new scientific advances and sociological change. It is interesting to note that he said the following: "I am sure we would not have had men on the moon if it had not been for Wells and Verne and the people who write about this and made people think about it. I am rather proud of the fact that I know several astronauts who became astronauts through reading my books." We are living in a world of accelerating change, and of an explosion of knowledge: knowledge and change so advanced and different than that of even recent decades. In Daniel Chapters 10, 11, and 12, the Bible tells us of a vision encounter that the prophet Daniel had with a holy angel, a "watcher messenger" from God. In that vision was revealed to Daniel actual events that were to happen historically in Persia (Iran) and Greece and later in the end times and the great tribulation period soon to come. MUSIC The angel told Daniel, "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." (Daniel 12:4) We are living in a day like the prophet Daniel described where "knowledge shall be increased" and we should take advantage of it to advance the kingdom of God. Daniel, in a passage of scripture dealing with the end times, tells us "… but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits." (Daniel 11:32) Exploit, in the sense used here, means literally "to do successively unfolding bold, courageous works." There are many ways to influence society, to build your relationships, to reach the world for Christ, and to help yourself. Pray and ask God to reveal these to you. Then obey Him and be diligent to study in order to prepare yourself to be better used by the Master: to be a good steward! To make MAXIMUM usage of our TIME, and thereby take advantage of the INCREASE of KNOWLEDGE, we need to exercise: Creativity, Planning, and Good decision making. You are the master of your time. You are NOT a slave to a schedule. There is ENOUGH time to do what God wants you to do! The One Who is the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega, has given you ENOUGH TIME to do what He wants you to do. Your job is to find out - to determine - WHAT He wants you to do. This is arrived at by spending daily time in Bible reading, prayer, meditation, and from time-to-time fasting. Know WHAT you want to do (that is, what God wants you to do); and, Plan HOW to do it. You also need to determine how to profit from your leisure, or non-work, time. Is watching TV a profitable experience for you? Sometime it is: if you are relaxing, or learning, or being inspired. But the next day ask yourself, "In what way did I profit from watching TV yesterday?" If you determine that you did not profit from that experience, then change your life style. Spend your non-work time creating, praying, building your mind, body, and spirit; also, listening and playing. Also, do NOT put off plans or experiences because of TIME. Jump in! If God wants you to do it, then take the TIME. God will make a way for you to do what He wants you to do, but YOU have to INITIATE the action with FAITH. REMEMBER: If your plans fit into God's plans ... you will have God's faith ... and God's faith always works! MUSIC Time and relationships are interrelated. You only have so much time QUANTITY in this life; but you can determine the relationship QUALITY! Your life, your marriage, your ministry, your business, and your relationships are either: Surviving, Dying, or Growing. Learn to OPEN UP, GIVE UP, and LOOK UP. OPEN UP - "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16) GIVE UP - "… let us lay aside every weight (hindrance), and the sin which does so easily beset us (or slow is down in the race), and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." (Hebrews 12:1) There are five big hindrances to relationships that we need to give up: Silent treatment (not talking or communicating); Threatening to walk out; Sarcasm; Blaming the other person or people; Unhealthy (other) relationships. LOOK UP - "If you are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection (interests) on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:1-2) Larry Crabb, in his book Men and Women says, "The greatest obstacle to building truly good relationships is justified self-centeredness." (With the emphasis being on the word "justified.") Paul Harvey, the well known Christian news commentator, tells in one of his programs ("The Rest of the Story") about a man who had just purchased a new car: a brand he had always wanted. His wife borrowed the car one day soon after he had purchased it. She was involved in an accident with another vehicle that day. She was so discouraged, anxious and scared, knowing that her husband really liked the car. When she opened the insurance papers to trade information with the other driver, she read a note her husband had placed in them before-time which said: "Honey, in case of an accident, it's you I love, not the car!" As in making maximum use of our time, so building relationships takes: Creativity, Planning, and Good decision making. Just as Jesus is the LIGHT in time and travel, so He is the LIGHT in relationships. Let His light shine through you in these last days before He returns. Take advantage of the knowledge explosion in these last days to magnify and reflect HIS LIGHT to every people, tribe, language and ethnic group of the world!
