Unwoman came to St. Paul for a show that included an interview after her performance. On this episode, I play that interview, as recorded and with almost no editing, and a sampling of some of Unwoman's more recent releases. Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com
It has been, quite frankly, an embarassingly long time since I last posted a show, but I haven't stopped discovering great music that I want to share with you. On this episode, I catch you up on what I've been listening to over the past 10 months. I hope you enjoy! Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com
I had the opportunity to sit down with Jim Cookas and Brittany Bindrim of I:Scintilla and Jim Marcus and Vince McAley of Go Fight when I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and this episode is the product of our conversation. It was less of an interview and more of a discussion. We talked about what the bands are up to, their March Midwest tour dates together, a lot about the music industry, new technologies, science fiction's predictions for the future, the Garbage fandom, making magic and more. Plus, I let my guests take over most of the music on this episode and they picked some great songs that you may not have heard (yet). Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com
Get to know one of my favorite Minneapolis-based bands on this episode. I talk to Lindy, Cody and Jake of Gabriel and the Apocalypse about the band (where they've come from and where they're going), Rock Band, songwriting, the challenges faced with recording New World Disaster, why PJ Harvey is awsome, working with photographer Brandon Wu, the forthcoming video for Silent War, and their upcoming show at Ground Zero in Minneapolis with I:Scintilla, Go Fight and Goodnight Criminals. The guitars are front and center on this episode and there are also a number of hard hitting tracks from some other great artists. Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com
Looking back on 2012 (as is the thing to do at the end of the year), 2012 for me was definitely the year of Garbage. I didn't put together any kind of top whatever list of the year or any kind of retrospective - you've already heard about those adventures. The "Year of Garbage" is continuing into 2013 with Sons of the Silent Age in Chicago. What is that, you ask? It's a little project by Chris Connelly. Tune in for full details. Also on this episode: Emilie Autumn, Velvet Acid Christ and IAMX tour news. New music on this episode: Emilie Autumn, Velvet Acid Christ, IAMX, Tweaker, Panic Lift. Happy New Year! I'm a violinist and lately I've been playing more than usual, so I thought it would be fun to do a show that features my main instrument, the violin. All songs on this episode have violin parts, but most of the tracks I've chosen are more up tempo or rock oriented rather than quite and contemplative. This set list most certainly won't be lulling you to sleep. I also unveil a brand new segment tentatively titled "That's What I Like About You". During this segment, I introduce Panzer AG song "When I Am You" and give my take on what's really cool musically about this song. Full show notes are at http://www.aztalanturf.com

Some tracks were released in 2010, some tracks are from bands that were new to me in 2010 and some tracks were chosen because they define a memorable time for me. Thanks go out to everyone who helped during 2010 in any way with the creation of the show... from listening to spreading the word to sending feedback to joining me for an interview to creating amazing music and everything in between. I look forward to even better things in 2011. Full show notes at http://www.aztalanturf.com

It's a NIN sandwich! I start and end the show with tracks from the newly remastered Pretty Hate Machine. This one tends toward the aggressive and industrial-rock side of things with tracks by 16volt, KMFDM, Modulate, Mankind Is Obsolete and Streak. On the lighter side of things, you'll hear Sober by Lunic (including a lengthy discussion of the track), The Evolutionaries and a slower track from the new Kidneythieves album. You'll also learn a bit about the Department of Evil and Kilted Farmer Presents, two groups I've recently become involved with. As always, if you like what you hear, please support the bands and buy their music. Full show notes at http://www.aztalanturf.com
