Ore Kaffo: The Transformative Difference of Understanding Your Identity as a Child of God

When she was just 7 years old, Ore Kaffo was abducted from her foster family—the only family she had ever known—by her birth mother. Having grown up in England, despite being one of just a few Black children in her school, she'd always been very happy. However, when she was taken back to Nigeria where she shared a skin color with most people around her, she didn't feel that she belonged and this caused her to struggle with her true identity. It wasn't until she came to understand that she is, first and foremost, a child of God that she became comfortable with exactly who she is. On this week's episode, Ore shares her remarkable story and her undeniable light. 2:17- White Nanny, Black Child 15:01- Lessons From Foster Father 18:15- Learning From Missionaries and Becoming One 29:00- Reunited 33:07- No Heroes and No Villains 40:50- Identity as Children of God 44:47- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? “It doesn't matter if somebody is from Zibwabwe or Tokyo or Pakistan or from America, if we all identify as children of God then we are one people.” Links:  Ore's website: https://ore-lou.com/ For UK listeners, here's a link to “White Nanny Black Child,” the documentary that tells Ore's story on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81789241?s=i&trkid=258593161&vlang=en “White Nanny Black Child” trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDiilPLxs6k&pp=ygUXd2hpdGUgY2hpbGQgYmxhY2sgbmFubnk%3D Ore on Good Morning Britain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpZWDzdGoNA&pp=ygUXd2hpdGUgY2hpbGQgYmxhY2sgbmFubnk%3D

First up, we're diving into next week's Democratic National Convention, where President Biden will endorse Kamala Harris as the next Commander-in-Chief. Rahm Emanuel, Biden's ambassador to Japan, joins Christiane to discuss the successes of Biden's diplomacy and what a Harris foreign policy might look like. Then, we'll explore what a second Trump term could mean for American diplomacy abroad. Former Pentagon official Elbridge Colby shares why he believes the Trump-Vance agenda could help the U.S. avoid World War Three and why it's imperative to have Europe take the lead in supporting Ukraine. Next, Anna Ardin, the Swedish woman who accused Julian Assange of sexual assault discusses Wikileaks legacy, and recounts her trauma, and how her life has changed since the assault in her new book, ‘No Heroes, No Monsters.'  We also hear from Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation, as he reflects on his transformative work in philanthropy and how his personal life story has shaped the foundation's mission to fight inequality. Marking three years since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan, Christian revisits the severe rollback of women's rights with a focus on the restrictions faced by women anchors, who are now banned from showing their face on camera. Finally, Christiane speaks with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado about the recent crackdown by Nicolás Maduro on dissidents following a contested election, as she shares her story from a secret location. Who doesn't love a good movie? No matter the genre, it's a chance to escape from this world into a whole new one. And the rarer the better, right? Well, maybe not in this case.   In Preston Fassel's new book, “Beasts of 42nd Street,” we're taken on a trip to New York's 42nd Street, a place where, no joke, getting stabbed and robbed isn't all that unusual. In this kingdom of the damned we meet Andy Lew, an unrepentant junkie, voyeur and degenerate, only tolerated by the more dangerous men around him because he keeps the projectors at the Colossus theater running.   There's something unique about Andy, though. He owns a movie—the only one of its kind. No one knows who made it and only he knows where it came from. The woman it stars is beautiful beyond imagination—and the images it depicts are worse than the darkest depths of Hell.   I loved the premise for this book and so Preston and I go on a trip to 42nd Street to meet Andy and learn what makes him such a scumbag. We talk about the movie and the grindhouse style of cinema that inspired it, something that Preston knows a lot about. We also see how 42nd Street has changed and what Preston learned when he went back a few years ago.

Director Olivia Eastey has sent a crack team of experts as her retrieval squad, including her own brother, the intimidating and coldly focussed, Elias Eastey. Caught unprepared and separated, the hunters now face some of the most skilled paranormal agents in the business. The stakes, should they lose, couldn't be higher. CHRIS OFFUTT chats to Paul Burke about THE KILLING HILLS, Kentucky, land and culture, spy fiction and photography.THE KILLING HILLS: Mick Hardin, a combat veteran now working as an Army CID agent, is home on a leave that is almost done. His wife is about to give birth, but they aren't getting along. His sister, newly risen to sheriff, has just landed her first murder case, and local politicians are pushing for city police or the FBI to take the case. Are they convinced she can't handle it, or is there something else at work? She calls on Mick who, with his homicide investigation experience and familiarity with the terrain, is well suited to staying under the radar. As he delves into the investigation, he dodges his commanding officer's increasingly urgent calls while attempting to head off further murders. And he needs to talk to his wife. The Killing Hills is a novel of betrayal - sexual, personal, within and between the clans that populate the hollers - and the way it so often shades into violence. Chris Offutt has delivered a dark, witty, and absolutely compelling novel of murder and honour, with an investigator-hero unlike any in fiction.CHRIS OFFUTT is the author of the short-story collections Kentucky Straight and Out of the Woods, the novels The Good Brother, Country Dark and The Killing Hills, and three memoirs: The Same River Twice, No Heroes, and My Father, the Pornographer. His work has appeared in Best American Short Stories and Best American Essays, among many other places. He has written screenplays for Weeds, True Blood, and Treme, and has received fellowships from the Lannan and Guggenheim foundations.Recommendations British TV: The Sandbaggers, Callan & Y GwyllBooks:Melissa Ginsburg The House UptownDomenic Stansberry The Ancient RainWilliam McIlvanney Laidlaw trilogyMick Herron, Jean-Claude Izzo, Walter Mosley, Chester Himes, John le Carré & Massimo Carlotto.Produced by Junkyard DogMusic courtesy of Southgate & LeighCrime TimePaul Burke writes for NB magazine, Crime Fiction Lover, Crime Time and the European Literature Network.
