Barry, Abigail, and special guest Carlo “from Canada” Sgro discuss Carlo's Phone-a-Friend selection, Version 2.0 by Garbage, and sample Carlo's choice of three Canadian porters: Stranger Than Fiction from Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton, Ontario; Clifford Porter from Clifford Brewing Co. in Hamilton, Ontario; and Vanilla Porter from Side Launch Brewing Company in Collingwood, Ontario.Abigail always gets Collective Arts confused with Untitled Art in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Barry always gets it confused with Counterpart Brewing in Niagara Falls, Ontario.Carlo told the story of Shirley Manson calling Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders to ask permission to use the lyrics “We were the talk of the town” in Special, since Manson had pulled those lyrics from The Pretenders' Talk of the Town. Hynde agreed, and did not ask for any credit or royalties, before even having heard Special, and rumor had it she was flattered by the ask.Hammering in My Head reminded Barry of Leave by R.E.M.Barry heard elements of both The Munsters theme and The Beach Boys' Don't Worry Baby in Push It. Unfortunately, he cannot claim credit at the AHSOSSAM for this find, as Garbage credited The Beach Boys for those lyrics and melody. Welcome back! Bundle up…because it's going to be cold AF later this week. Not too bad tomorrow, but into the teens on Thursday & Friday…and single digit highs this coming weekend. In the news this morning, a date for the destruction of the Lansing bridge, a Cinnabon employee in Ashwaubenon got fired after a racist rant captured on video, a recall on Amazon power-banks, and nobody won the Powerball jackpot on Saturday night!!! In sports, the Packers beat the Bears yesterday to claim the top spot in the NFC North, the Vikes got a win as well, the Bucks continue to suck, the Badgers beat Marquette over the weekend, and the women's volleyball team advances to the regional semi-finals! We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and we discussed Shirley Manson's rant about beach balls. Elsewhere in sports, a look at the College Football Playoffs & bowl schedule, John Cena's final opponent is revealed, James Harden is a top-10 scorer in the NBA, and a wild scene this weekend involving former Badger Julius Davis. Cool story about a woman that bought a piggy bank at a thrift store and found a bunch of money inside, and an interesting world record was recently broken in the UK! Only 17 days until Christmas, and we looked at a list of the best Xmas movies based on their IMDB scores. Plus, the President sort of suggested that we should rename the NFL, so we discussed some suggestions for a new moniker. If you say "um" and "uh" a lot, your brain might be broken. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy in Ohio who sent his meth through the tube at bank, butter-dipped ice cream, a problem with Kohler's toilet cams, a massive gator in #Florida, a dude who choked someone at a Home Depot with an umbrella, and a fire department employee in Baltimore who was skeeting all over the place.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A canceled tour. Refund notices. Confused fans. We pull back the curtain on why live shows keep slipping through our fingers, from vague “operational issues” to the hard math of visas, venue access, and thin margins. A North American K‑pop run dissolves overnight, and we trace the fingerprints: new promoters biting off too much, slow stream velocity dulling demand signals, and logistics that punish even small mistakes. We also talk about the real cost of attending a show now. The venue you can't reach on one subway line adds hours and hotel bills. The “quick night out” means PTO, rideshares, and $15 snacks. That friction changes behavior. Fans who once went every month now choose a few can't-miss acts, while others opt for the couch, a big screen, and a flawless livestream. When Shirley Manson calls touring a liability, she's speaking to a system where artists work harder for less, and fans shoulder higher stakes with every purchase. There's still light. Hybrid models are getting smarter: multi-camera livestreams, timed replays, and thoughtful travel packages that make yes easier and FOMO lighter. We share updates from the J‑pop and K‑pop worlds—Arashi speculation, member projects, BTS tour hopes—and ask what a sustainable future could look like if fans had fair access and artists had predictable backing. If you care about live music, this conversation maps the fault lines and possible fixes. If this resonates, tap follow, share it with a friend who misses concerts as much as you do, and leave a quick review so more listeners can find us. In this episode Frank and Anthony are joined by @TankTheTech to talk about recent statements made by Shirley Manson, the lead singer of Rock band, Garbage. Shirley spoke on stage about how it's becoming impossible for acts of all sizes to tour, make a living, and to keep cost efficient for fans as well. Tank, being a tour manager himself, is in unique position to talk about the true cost of touring. Extras and audience contribution with whatever time we have left! Here's a preview of another music podcast we love, Broken Record. Music and storytelling meet on Broken Record, where artists across genres and generations sit down to explore the joy, chaos, and vulnerability of creating—and what it means to devote a life to music. From legendary icons to groundbreaking new voices, each episode captures artists in conversation sharing the inspirations and experiences that shape their craft. Shirley Manson, frontwoman of 90s rock band Garbage, joined to chat about the one piece of advice that shapes her creative process, the challenges of communicating with bandmates, and the time she met one her musical heroes, Patti Smith. David Miller, Simon McGlynn & Chris Connelly in conversation with David Eastaugh THE SHEER ACTION OF FINI TRIBE is the first retrospective of the band, curated and designed by the band. It includes a wealth of archival photographs, an essay by original member ANDY MCGREGOR, who also designed the sleeve, and essays by longtime friend SHIRLEY MANSON and author ALASTAIR MCKAY, an early champion of the band. The release features the first legendary JOHN PEEL SESSION produced by DALE GRIFFIN and originally broadcast in May 1985. FINI TRIBE was born into the cash-poor but culturally-wealthy environs of post-punk Edinburgh in the very early 80s – 1980 to be almost precise. A tiny three piece with no drummer would soon swell into a muscular six piece with inherited or cheaply-purchased instruments. Band members CHRIS CONNELLY, SIMON MCGLYNN, ANDY MCGREGOR, DAVIE MILLER, PHILIP PINSKY, and JOHN VICK haunted the cold, damp warrens of the Niddry Street and Blair Street rehearsal rooms, just off the high street in Old Town Edinburgh.
"Isn't Life Strange" New Cover Single By Kylie Willow Written by John Lodge Originally recorded by The Moody Blues CapSha Productions © Copyright shashoandthecaptainproductions.com All Rights Reserved. LYRICS: Isn't life strange? A turn of the page Can read like before Can we ask for more? Each day passes by How hard man will try? The sea will not wait You know it makes me want to cry, cry, cry Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were and here we are Isn't love strange? A word we arrange With no thought or care Maker of despair Each breath that we breathe With love we must weave To make us as one You know it makes me want to cry, cry, cry Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were and here we are Isn't life strange? A turn of the page A book without light Unless with love we write To throw it away To lose just a day The quicksand of time You know it makes me want to cry, cry, cry Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were Wished I could be in your heart To be one with your love Wished I could be in your eyes Looking back, there you were Support us on PayPal!

Say it with us: ICON. Shirley Manson returns to SHEROES this week to chat with host Carmel Holt about the new Garbage album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, their eighth studio release, and what she describes as the "good twin" to their last album No Gods No Masters. As always, Shirley comes with the wisdom, the wit, and the no-fucks-given feminist empowerment that we ALL need now, more than ever.
Combinando rock alternativo, batidas eletrônicas e um toque pop irresistível, o primeiro disco do Garbage chega este mês aos trinta anos. You've heard the story before: a Maine telekinetic teen snaps after her bullies play a prank that goes too far… but what if the soundtrack has third-wave ska? That's right, consider this Carrie vol. 3 - we're getting matching tattoos, confessing our love for Shirley Manson, and having our minds blown (apart) by THE RAGE: CARRIE 2!! Here to help us unpack a whole locker's worth of background and foreground 90s references is author (the new comic book Be Not Afraid from Boom! Studios - issues #1 out now! My guest today is Shirley Manson. Since 1994, she's been the lead singer of the band Garbage, and she is a bona fide rock icon. The two of us worked together on a different podcast called The Jump, which Shirley hosted and I helped produce. It was a dream of mine to get Shirley as the host of that podcast, partly because, as you're about to hear, she has one of the greatest voices, and I could listen to her talk about anything. And so I'm especially excited to listen to her today tell me about a song that changed her life. Thanks to Sonos for their support of the podcast. Check out sonos.com.For more, visit songexploder.net/keychange.And check out the Song Exploder episode with Garbage from 2014, featuring Shirley and her bandmate Butch Vig talking about how they made their song “Felt.”
This week on PopCultX, we dive headfirst into the bittersweet brilliance of Pee-wee Herman and his biggest adventure yet: Pee-wee as Himself, the brand-new HBO documentary that explores the life, legacy, and layered persona of Paul Reubens. From the kaleidoscopic chaos of Pee-wee's Playhouse to the cultural fallout of the '90s, we reflect on how Reubens' art & controversies shaped an entire generation's sense of humor and imagination. Spoiler alert: we both highly recommend you watch it.Plus, Gabe drops a music rec that hits all the right Gen X buttons: the latest album by Garbage. Shirley Manson and the gang are back, and we talk about why they still matter in 2025.Nostalgia, neon, and a little bit of rebellion—just how we like it.
Auf dem neuen Garbage-Album «Let All That We Imagine Be the Light» verteilt Rock-Ikone Shirley Manson nicht nur Kinnhaken, sondern auch Hoffnung. Aktuell auf der Abschussliste der bald 60-Jährigen stehen Pessimismus und Altersdiskriminierung. Im Sounds!-Interview redet sie Klartext.
Frontwoman of Garbage, Shirley Manson talks about the band's latest album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, which is inspired by contemporary events including the killing of George Floyd in Los Angeles, but which presents an optimistic perspective on a dystopian world. We hear from the winner of the International Booker Prize, which was announced at a ceremony last night. And Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller talks about how he has curated joyful and exuberant events in towns and cities around the UK - Derry-Londonderry, Dundee, Llandudno and Plymouth - to celebrate the bicentenary of the National Gallery.
Shirley Manson is a singer and songwriter, most notably from the band Garbage, whose new record, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, is out May 30th. We chat with Shirley from her home in Los Angeles about Diddy updates, DJ Akademiks, Esq., Chris is flying out of Newark tomorrow, walking in Los Angeles without a dog, octopuses are sentient beings, what she listens to in the MRI machine, how Chris cleans his bathroom, her shower schedule, sloppy seconds, when she gets nervous, streaming revenue, she says the phrase "player, please", the best ways for a band to break up, touring with Noel Gallagher, opening for My Chemical Romance, and the last time she did ecstacy. instagram.com/garbage twitter.com/donetodeath twitter.com/themjeans howlonggone.com Learn more about your ad choices. Shirley Manson of Garbage is cooler than ever, and the gang takes a nostalgic trip down memory lane remembering KROQ radio legend Jed the Fish — and their first radio gigs. Sarah shares the reason behind her famously judgey ways, and Glen Powell is having a major moment in Hollywood. Would your teenage self be proud of your life today? Plus, a hot debate: who are big lips really for? And Vinnie drops another classic story time.
On today's Talkhouse Podcast we've got one of those episodes pairing an artist you've surely heard of, pun intended, with one you likely haven't, but will. It's Shirley Manson and Stephen McCall. Manson is of course the singer for the long-running, Grammy-nominated, chart-topping, Bond-theme-performing band Garbage, which hit it big right out of the gate in the mid-1990s. Manson and her bandmates have assembled a varied catalog since, including the biting 2021 album No Gods, No Masters. As you'll hear in this chat, Garbage is still going strong, working on a new record that goes in kind of a different direction than the last one. Manson has always been a great talker; she even hosted her own podcast for a few years called The Jump, on which she talked with other musicians about the song that provided their breakthrough. She's a huge fan of music, so it's no surprise that she was excited to chat with today's other guest, Stephen McCall. McCall, like Manson, is Scottish—that's hard to miss—though he hasn't been making music nearly as long. His debut album under the name Constant Follower came out in 2021 and was met with loads of critical acclaim in Scotland for his quiet, heartfelt, frequently intense songs—think Bon Iver or Low or even McCall's favorite, Talk Talk. This week sees the release of the second proper Constant Follower album, called The Smile You Send Out Returns To You, another intense set that covers some of McCall's intense personal journey, including addiction, fatherhood, and the violent attack he suffered that still affects his memory. Check out the song “Almost Time to Go” from The Smile You Send Out right here. In this lively but deep conversation, Manson and McCall talk about that awful attack and how it led, eventually, to Constant Follower. They also talk about longevity in the music business, the creative process—including The Artist's Way that's become a frequent topic in Talkhouse chats—and lots more, including the time that Rivers Cuomo laughed in Manson's face—in a helpful way. Enjoy. Chapters: 0:00 – Intro 2:25 – Start of the chat Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Shirley Manson and Stephen McCall for chatting. In recognition of Kurt Cobain's February birthday (he would have been 58 on 2/20/25), and 30 years since the release of Garbage's first album with the hits songs Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains, we're bringing back our epic conversation with fellow Packers fan Butch Vig. Catch the VIDEO with Butch recalling a raucous night at the Hollywood Palladium with the Butthole Surfers and L7 where he lost Nirvana, and Kurt Cobain took a long walk home. WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/ObnU5pTK9gk This episode includes stories about how Garbage was once forced to play a gig middle of the night in a Serbian castle; why the band's lead singer Shirley Manson nearly didn't pass her audition; and the fact that band members ALWAYS lose 20 IQ points when they go on tour.
