New Jersey-based instrumental heavy rock, 7 string guitarist Steve Bello is a talented, internationally known guitar player/songwriter with eight albums as a leader as well as many endorsements such as Ibanez guitars and orange amplifiers. He has been a guitar player for over 40 years and a guitar/bass teacher for over 20 years. He's been featured in guitar player magazine and has opened up for the likes of Lita Ford and others. It was great to meet Steve as we have been friends through social media for close to 10 years! In our conversation we talk about Steve's music background as a child growing up around family musicians, enjoying music is a relaxed way. At age 12 after hearing and seeing Jimi Hendix playing at Monterey on TV, Steve was inspired to dedicate his life to playing guitar. We talk about playing in an instrumental trio and how the experience of freedom and space and developing your music voice is the allure for musicians. Steve wrote his first song at 13 and never stopped writing. Steve has a brand new album out called “Mood Swings” that you should definitely check out! The links are below. He has a show coming up, a benefit for his friend Irene DeMeo at Dingbats in Clifton, NJ on Friday, March 4th, 7pm. Joining him will be the powerhouse rhythm section of Attacker (also featured on Steve's new album, “Mood Swings”) as well as a great bill of other bands. Teri started playing in the drum corps in 7th grade and played through Jr. High and high school that lead her to working professionally as a set drummer starting from age 14. She soon started touring with a family band called The Marcy Brothers, who were signed to Warner Brothers Records and opened for major acts including George Strait, Eddie Rabbit, Johnny Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, Juice Newton, Roy Clarke.. These experiences led Teri to tour the world with American pop singer, David Cassidy from 2003-2017 known for acting in the iconic 70's sitcom the Partridge Family as well as his successful solo music career. In our conversation, Teri offers real gems of wisdom when she says, “to direct your energy and focus… to stay on the best path individually for yourself and getting clear through music, nature and artistic pursuits. This week Alison welcomes Ruby Rose Fox to Earthtones! Ruby is a talented vocalist and songwriter. I am a huge fan of her voice, artistry, piano playing, songwriting, vision, production skills and work with nervous system health for artists. Chicago/Boston based artist Ruby Rose Fox is a cultural messenger of our turbulent modern times. Her music is sonically compelling and is packed with lyrics that reflect and challenge our current political state, from #metoo, to the mass-shooting crisis. Part actress, director, and writer, Ruby has never shied away from inventive ways to approach her art. In 2016 Ruby released her first album Domestic which reached number 8 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In 2018, she released her second album Salt, an utterly cinematic piece of experimental pop that features dense soundscapes built to accompany her wall-shattering vocals. The sonically-rich record is enhanced via ASMR microphones that were used during the recording, resulting in an ASMR-sensitive body of emotional, political, and personal songs. Ruby's songs have been featured in the video game Rock Band and at the Museum of Science in their space dome as the soundtrack to their amazing projections. Ruby is currently working on a new release. On her instagram , you can find some early solo performances from her home studio of some of her new songs and let me say they are just as moving and unique as her earlier material. I can't wait for her new album. Ruby also has a master class called The Unstoppable Performer and other Nervous System workshops that you can find out more on her websites. In our conversation we talk about Ruby's musical journey, her song writing process, her nervous system health offerings for artists, her upcoming release and much more! This week Alison welcomes Boston based, drummer illustrator, animator, producer, audio engineer extraordinaire and visual storyteller, Chris Georgenes! Chris is a fabulous, funky and natural born drummer.. In fact, he is one of the busiest working drummers around Boston and New England and can frequently be seen playing with the band, The Boston Naturals as well as many other New England music artists. I first became familiar with Chris when I became a fan of his remote music collaboration videos through social media during the height of covid last year, where many talented area musicians sent him their audio tracks of their music performances through the computer.. and Chris using his many talents, ensembles them into these beautiful visual and audio music stories. On Chris's website bostondrummer.com, instagram and facebook.. you find the many collaborations he ended up doing. In our conversation we talk about a few of Chris's music video collaborations in particular. One video, was a beautiful rendition of the song, O-O-H Child” made famous in 1970 by the family band the five stairsteps. This song and collaboration was just what people needed during covid when everyone was stuck at home needing inspiration and hope. In our conversation we discussed how it came together and how the video was uploaded on a sunday evening and was on the new the next evening! .. The video can be found on youtube, it's called “ inspirational video with 17 musicians from Boston to Italy” It features a group performance that includes musicians, medical professionals and postman also showcase their musical skills in this beautiful, moving performance… I have also had the pleasure of playing bass for a few of Chris's collaborations including , “tear the roof off” by parliament recorded with 13 basses and an original composition we co wrote with Perry Bakalos called, “ Scorpion Bowl” All these collaborations can be found on the websites below. In our conversation we also talk about Chris's impressive career as an animator and the wonderful experiences that lead him to illustrate work for Steven Spielberg. Chris Georgenes was destined to be a creative person and we talk about how it all started in a car ride with his family when he was a child. Chris went to Hartford Arts School and shares his drumming and arts background as well as his drum influences and connection to the drum community by providing many free, downloadable, tracks to play with. Chris is hugely inspiring as he drives to create and produce content for all to enjoy. Danielle Festa's artwork continues to inspire me as she expresses real beauty and strength that resides in everyone through her paintings. Danielle's powerful artwork combines techniques of ancient masters with modern art techniques and reflects modern times. Her creative process is fascinating to watch on instagram and combines beauty, passion , intuition and invites us all to heal through her artwork. Danielle Festa first began exploring the dimensions of personality constructs developed by clothing at the University of Amherst Massachusetts as a Fine Arts major. In her thesis work, she started incorporating textiles in combination with her traditional oil painting techniques. Since graduating in 2007, she has been painting and exhibiting in the New England area. Recently, she has moved to a studio at the Washington Street Mills in Dover, NH after working out of Somerville, MA for nearly a decade. Experimenting with the mixed media application of fabrics and oil paints, she continues to develop her evolving theme: the perception of dress. Danielle has shown her work in over 40 exhibitions from the Boston area to New York City to Oslo, 14 of which were solo shows in non-commercial galleries. She is also the recipient of the Boston Biennial Gold Painting Award in 2009 and the Somerville Arts Council Fellowship Grant in 2013. In our conversation we talk about how she got started as an artist, her influences and family inspirations, her creative process, her fantastic Mask Yourself Series on instagram and much more! ______________________________________________________ You can find out more about Danielle Festa and see her artwork at these websites!
