Paul Muldoon is a Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet. He's won several other awards too including the Shakespeare Prize. He's the author of 15 collections of poetry. He's the Editor of the 2021 two-volume treatise called “The Lyrics: 1956 To The Present”, that he wrote together with Sir Paul McCartney. It covers 154 of Paul's songs with the Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist. Mona Golabek is an author, actress and Grammy Nominated concert pianist. She has an important and touching Holocaust related story. It's about her mother, Lisa Jura, at the time a 14 year old pianist living with her family in Vienna, who escaped from the Nazis to England via the Kindertransport program. Mona has written a book about this called “The Children of Willesden Lane”. She subsequently adapted it into a stage version which played in New York, London and elsewhere, starring Mona and for which she received several Best Actress nominations. Later still Mona created a foundation which has brought her mother's story to over 10 million students and communities around the world. This is an Encore Presentation of my February 2024 episode featuring Bert Berns and Nat Weiss, two giants of the music industry, yet both relatively unknown to the public. Bert Berns was one of the foremost songwriters and producers of pop and rhythm and blues in the ‘60s. His hits include “Twist And Shout”, which The Beatles took to international fame; “Piece Of My Heart”, Janis Joplin's gigantic hit; “Hang On Sloopy”, the mega-hit for The McCoys; “Cry To Me”, a hit for Solomon Burke and later for The Rolling Stones; and “Tell Him”, a great early ‘60s hit for the Exciters. His producer credits include “Brown Eyed Girl”, Van Morrison's first smash hit. Nat Weiss was a lawyer by training. He became the U.S. business partner of Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles, and was Brian's right hand man in America for the band, including for all the merchandising opportunities coming their way. Nat expanded this relationship and began suggesting artists for Brian to manage, including The Cyrkle (“Red Rubber Ball”). Jesse became a San Francisco-based Counterculture Hero during the 1967 Summer Of Love with his massive hit “Get Together”. The song became an anthem for the Woodstock generation. Matt Axton is an Americana and Roots singer-songwriter who comes from an illustrious musical family. Welcome to the 4th ANNIVERSARY SHOW of the podcast!I started this podcast on March 10, 2021 during the depths of the pandemic, when musicians like me could neither rehearse nor perform. I needed something creative to do and someone suggested that I start a podcast. But I had no idea what a podcast was; I had never even listened to one. The more I thought about it, though, the more I became convinced that you could get a much deeper level of engagement from a podcast than from ordinary social media. So I decided to take a shot. I had no audience and no guests. But I had a goal - to encourage and motivate people to follow their dream, just as I followed my youthful music dream later in life.Here we are 4 years later and the podcast has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. I've aired over 450 episodes. We're approaching 3 million downloads. The podcast is ranked in the Top 1% (actually .1%) with listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries. I've met and conversed with the most amazing and talented guests. And the icing on the cake for me has been the musical collaborations I've done with a number of my World Class guests.This 4th Anniversary episode provides an overview of some of the amazing guests from the past year. John Helliwell is a World Class saxophonist who was a member of Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. They hit the top of the charts with their 1979 album “Breakfast In America” which sold over 20 million copies - the most of any album that year - and won two Grammy awards. Brian Epstein and Albert Grossman were two of the most important managers in the history of rock music. Brian was of course the manager of The Beatles and was their guiding force taking them from a scruffy Liverpool existence to the top of the entertainment world. He went on to manage a number of the British Invasion stars including Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Cilla Black and the Moody Blues.
