Country Music Hall of Famer Lacy J. Dalton The Queen of Country Music LACY'S BIO Lacy J. Dalton (born Jill Lynne Byrem on October 13, 1946 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania), is an American country singer and songwriter with a career that has spanned many decades and touched the hearts of millions of music fans. In March 2017 Lacy J Dalton was inducted into the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame, and in 2022 she was awarded a Lifetime Career Achievement Award from the Josie Music Awards, the largest independent music awards show in the country. She's one of the most instantly recognizable voices in music – the woman People Magazine called “Country's Bonnie Raitt.” From the first time Lacy J Dalton caught the public's ear, that soulful delivery, full of texture and grit, has been a mainstay of Country Music. When you sit to listen to a Lacy J Dalton album, you find yourself pulled in by the very power and heart of this vocalist, because she's not merely performing a ten-song set, she's bringing each and every tune to life. It's as if they were all written especially for her. Prior to recording with Harbor Records in 1978 as Jill Croston, she like many before her, held many jobs to survive and support her family. As a truck stop waitress and singer, she would wait tables and then take the stage to sing a few songs. In June 1979, Lacy J Dalton was signed by Columbia Records and quickly rose to national prominence with Crazy Blue Eyes, which she wrote with her longest friend, Mary McFadden, and which raced to #7 on the Billboard Country Charts. Her hard work and dedication paid off in 1979 when she was awarded the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist of the Year. Lacy's success was powered not just by the artist's recordings, but by a stage show that truly electrified audiences. She quickly became one of the few women who could successfully open a show for the likes of Hank Williams, Jr., Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard or Charlie Daniels. Not only could she do it, but she left audiences across the country hollering for more. Her signature song 16th Avenue, became the Anthem for Nashville songwriters. Her other hit records are legendary million-airplay cuts and include Crazy Blue Eyes, Takin' It Easy, Everybody Makes Mistakes, Hillbilly Girl with the Blues, Hard Times, and the worldwide hit Black Coffee. In addition to her Top New Female Vocalist award, she also brought home numerous Grammy nominations and 3 prestigious, back to back (1979, 1980, 1981) Bay Area Music Awards for Best Country-Folk Recordings. Lacy appeared on those shows with the likes of Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane. Lacy's collaboration with Willie Nelson on his platinum Half Nelson CD was a high spot for her. Lacy is the only woman featured on that recording (which included singing legends Ray Charles, Neil Diamond, Merle Haggard, Julio Iglesias, George Jones, Leon Russell, Carlos Santana, Mel Tillis, Hank Williams Sr., and Neil Young), and was awarded a Platinum Record for it. She also received a Gold Record from Hank Williams Jr. in 1985 for her support performances throughout his Five-0 Tour, where she opened for him at a time when it was unusual for a woman to do so. Her career includes accomplishments in music, film and radio. In music, they range from her instantly recognizable charted hit songs to her notable duets recorded with George Jones, Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare, Glen Campbell, Eddie Rabbit, David Allen Coe and many others. Her film debut was in the motion picture Take This Job And Shove It, and her acting has also included live stage and theater performances. Until recently, Lacy J Dalton also hosted a weekly radio show called Mustang Matters. Podcasts of past shows are available to listeners on the internet at www.americamatters.us Following a successful career in country music, Lacy decided to draw on all her musical experiences including country, rock and folk, and cross over into the Americana genre. This blend of musical styles allows her to express herself in a way that demonstrates all the facets of who she is as a singer/songwriter. She became an independent artist and formed her own label called Song Dog Records. Under this label, she has released three albums to date. The first was Wild Horse Crossing in 1999, followed by the Last Wild Place Anthology which went #1 on the World Independent Chart, and a year later went #1 on the American Western Music Chart. Then Allison Eastwood, Clint Eastwood's daughter, used the hit song Slip Away from the Anthology CD on the sound track of her independent film, Don't Tell. In 2010 Lacy also released a tribute to Hank Williams Sr. entitled Here's To Hank. Today, Lacy continues to record new music and perform live shows whenever possible. She tours mainly west of the Mississippi and loves small boutique venues and old theaters with great sound quality and warm, receptive audiences she can really connect with. She recently recorded some electrifying new music for an EP that was released in January 2019. When hearing the signature song Scarecrow, her good friend Reverend Barbara Ann Fletcher remarked “that song makes you a whole new you, and it makes me a whole new me.” And that's exactly the response Lacy was hoping for. In addition to her musical career, Lacy has been involved in various service projects through several charitable organizations – namely, the Let ‘em Run Foundation, William James Associates Arts in Corrections, and Rotary International. In 1999, Lacy co-founded the Let ‘em Run Foundation which received its 501(c)3 designation from the IRS in 2004. The Let 'em Run Foundation is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing America's wild horses and burros who have no voice. Let ‘em Run's mission is to serve as an educational, fund-raising and public relations entity, through its own efforts and in assisting similar non-profit organizations, to promote the appropriate and compassionate management of the wild horse, estray horse, and mustang population of the U.S. and other species of endangered or mistreated animals. From 2015 through November 2018, Lacy and her partner, Dale Poune, worked with the William James Arts in Corrections program at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California. Their work there has been focused on teaching basic song writing skills and techniques, music theory and guitar playing to level 4 inmates. Through their classes, a select group of inmates got the opportunity to learn the basic principles of guitar playing and song writing which they then used to develop songs and lyrics, both individually and as a group. The class culminated with the inmates recording those musical compositions and giving a live performance to an audience of prison and non-prison personnel. In addition, several inmates were able to go on to teach basic guitar to other inmates in the classic “each one teach one” teaching tradition. Finally, Lacy is an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Reno, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Lacy has written two songs for Rotary, which she then recorded on a CD to be used as a fundraising opportunity for the Reno club. Lacy also performed at the Rotary International Convention in New Orleans in 2011, and has been a key note speaker and headline performer at several club meetings and district conferences.

Face Dances is the ninth studio album from the Who, and the first release after the death of drummer Keith Moon three years earlier. During those three years the Who would release the film Quadrophenia and the concert retrospective film The Kids Are Alright. Front man Roger Daltry would try out acting, and Pete Townshend would release his second solo studio album. When the group got back together for Face Dances, Phil Collins expressed an interest in joining the band. However, Kenny Jones (Small Faces, Faces) had already been asked to join. John “Rabbit” Bundrick also contributed keyboard work on this album, and would eventually join as a full time member of the Who. These joined previous members Daltry, Townshend, and bassist John Entwistle. The album was highly anticipated, and was a commercial success, reaching number 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number 2 on the UK Albums chart. Critical reviews were mixed at the time, and the band has expressed some friction with producer Bill Szymczyk who conducted the final mixing without the full band's input. Regardless, the album is a staple of early 80's rock and many of the songs have achieved a timelessness about them.Brian brings us this album for today's podcast. You Better You BetThe first single and lead-off track to the album was a staple of the new cable station - MTV. It was the Who's last top 20 single, reaching number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Townshend developed the song during a period of clubbing with the daughter of a friend. The video was a black and white studio session. Don't Let Go the CoatThis deeper cut was the second single, and was inspired by Townshend's guru Meher Baba and his statement that his followers “hang fast to the hem of my robe,” meaning to stay true to his teachings. It also may have been inspired by Townshend's parents who would pick him up after his binges on drugs and alcohol. The Quiet OneBassist John Entwistle takes an unusual turn as lead singer on this self-referential deep cut. It was the B-side of the single “You Better You Bet.” Entwisle said it was a song trying to explain that he wasn't really quiet, but that he started being quiet and got stuck in the pigeon hole of that label.Another Tricky Day“This is no social crisis, just another tricky day for you...fella!” John Bundrick inspired this song, and it claims that what we're going through is nothing unique, but is just another tricky day. The song is the final track on the album, and the video is in the same style as the first single - a black and white studio session. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main theme from the television series “Dynasty” John Forsythe, Linda Evans, and Joan Collins starred in this prime time soap opera. STAFF PICKS:Skateaway by Dire Straits Bruce brings us a song about a girl who skates around the city, ticking off the drivers, weaving in and out of traffic, and listening to the local rock and roll station on her headphones. Teri Cote is a world touring drummer, Yamaha artist who fuses many mediums in her work. She paints, draws, illustrates children's books, sculpts, photographs and makes this super cool jewelry that's featured on her website, drumjewels.com. Teri knew she wanted to be a drummer from when she was six, when she created her first drum set to jam with Earth, Wind & Fire. Teri started playing in the drum corps in 7th grade and played through Jr. High and high school that lead her to working professionally as a set drummer starting from age 14. She soon started touring with a family band called The Marcy Brothers, who were signed to Warner Brothers Records and opened for major acts including George Strait, Eddie Rabbit, Johnny Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, Juice Newton, Roy Clarke.. These experiences led Teri to tour the world with American pop singer, David Cassidy from 2003-2017 known for acting in the iconic 70's sitcom the Partridge Family as well as his successful solo music career. In our conversation, Teri offers real gems of wisdom when she says, “to direct your energy and focus… to stay on the best path individually for yourself and getting clear through music, nature and artistic pursuits. And remembering that groove and supporting the song are what's most important to be a working drummer. She has been an in demand drummer for many years. We talk about Teri's musical beginnings and how she naturally followed her path as a musician and artist her whole life. Teri is a super cool human being and the sweetest person who I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. Teri's love of music goes way beyond drums, as she writes, sings, composes, paints, illustrates and makes jewelry called Drum jewels. Episode 98: School is in session! Up first is a vocabulary lesson!! What does it mean when country goes pop? That would be Countrypolitan -- think Dolly Parton, Eddie Rabbit, and Juice Newton. Sophisti-pop refers to Style Council and Simply Red, among others. You'll also get a couple of history lessons in there. // Screamer of the Week: Friend of the podcast Charlie introduced us to WLIR, the famous New Wave radio station that broke some pretty amazing 80's acts. Kari goes full rockabilly in this week's episode. Cut some tiny bangs and tune in!
This is a clip episode in which we discuss corporal punishment, monkeys, pederasts, Eddie Rabbit and develop a 9 Step recovery program. We also ruined a dinner party at Pat's house.
When I started out, I was very, very shy. I do not know how I even got on stage, because if I could have hidden behind the microphone stand, I would have. -Crystal Gayle In this episode, we're on Music Row in Nashville to meet country music icon, Crystal Gayle. As one of the first female singers to crossover from country music to pop, she is considered a trailblazer by many. Born in Paintsville, Kentucky, Crystal is the youngest of 8 children and the sister of country legend Loretta Lynn. In this interview, she walks us through a career that is filled with equal parts luck and hard work. While it was fortunate that Crystal had a sister who could open doors for her, she had to walk through them on her own, proving that she had her own unique style. Signed to Decca Records at only 19, it wasn't long before she scored her first hit in 1970 with a single called “I've Cried the Blues Right Out of My Eyes.” Six years later, she released “Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” for United Artists and that song changed the trajectory of her career reaching #1 on the country charts and #2 on the pop charts. Later that year, the song would win Crystal the Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal and she would also become the first female country artist to go platinum. From that moment on, this shy singer with black hair that nearly touched the floor, was a superstar. A wife and mother of two grown children, Crystal opens up about what it was like to win the Grammy, the stories behind her songs “Talking In Your Sleep” and her duet with tour partner Eddie Rabbit called “You and I.” But what comes across in this very personal interview are Crystal's combination of drive and humility. Determined to forge her own path, she admits she was scared to death. “If I could talk to my 19 year old self, I would tell her: Lighten up. Don't worry so much. You don't need to be perfect.“ For an honest look into the life of a country music legend, hit that download button. #countrymusic #inspiration #countrymusicsuccessstories

Episode 3 is one of our favorites so far. We sit down with the President and CEO of Clearwing Productions, Gregg Brunclik and the President of Apollo Productions and former Clearwing employee Jamieson Filip for an “All Crew” special. We discuss the humble beginnings of Gregg’s company and how Eddie Rabbitt played a big part in it. We also talk about the transition in concert production from the 70’s and 80’s when everyone was building their own cabinets to the present day systems and some of the in between. Jamieson discusses the things it takes to produce large events including drilling through 10 feet of concrete at the Superbowl and a huge electrical debacle at the 2010 Winter Olympics. We talk about some classic road pranks from back in the day, and how the “touring brotherhood” has evolved. Gregg tells us about the time he provided production for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Violent Femmes at the north pole. It’s capped off by Gregg’s first hand account (from behind the monitor desk) of the infamous Plasmatics show in Milwaukee where Wendy O’Williams was arrested spurring a years long legal battle between her and Milwaukee Police Chief Harold Brier. Take a ride on the Crew Bus this month and hear the real deal stories from the people who always tell it like it is.

Gregg Brunclik began his journey, like so many in our industry have... beginning as a musician, and eventually, being lured into the support side of the "business". He took a loan from his dad, and BUILT his first sound system using that same system to provide audio for Eddie Rabbit and so many others. Gregg believes in hard work paying off, team work, family, and all the right things - while growing a business with 160+ employees and 3 locations in sound, lighting, video, staging, trucking and more. Episode 22 is brought to you by our friends at ACT Lighting.
The newest episode of things featuring people and stuff in the world of DISC GOLF WOOT WOOT. Music provided by Internet, but if you actually want to know what that sample is then i guess i should throw a shout out to Harry Belafonte even though Boo Boo is one of his least well recongnized songs and probably for good reasons. Shout out to Eddie Rabbit, Discin Jane, DISC BIIIIIIRD, Scott Reek and really the whole Reek family, Spring Peepers, that guy from Nebraska, our non existent advertisers. Sweet Lady Jangles and everyone else who makes me want to put effort into this. I have not found anything more entertaining than this as of yet. :)

The Naked Vibes Show features conversations with musicians, artists & healers to ignite your creative genius & elevate you in your spiritual growth. This episode features Grammy-winning songwriter, Wood Newton, a veteran of the Nashville music scene, a performing artist & activist. This audio was taken from a Naked Vibes TV episode where Wood joined me to play live & to share conversation about the creative process, his insights on the importance of commitment in relationships, his activism on behalf of songwriters' constitutional rights, & more. Wood is well-known in music circles as a lyricist adept at turning a phrase. He has a great sense of humor, so we enjoyed some good laughs! Enjoy the show on NAKED VIBES TV: SHOW NOTES: 1:55 - SONG - LIVE PERFORMANCE: "Private Malone" performed live by Wood Newton at the Bluebird Cafe, Nashville. 6:31 - We're recording our conversation in the studio of painter, Gloria Newton. Wood respects this as her sacred space. We all need sacred space for our creativity to blossom. 7:04 - Wood has over 2000 songs in his catalog, recorded by Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Steve Wariner, Oak Ridge Boys, David Ball, B.J. Thomas, Anne Murray, George Jones, Restless Heart & many more. 7:42 - Everyone is creative. As a songwriter, Wood's antennae are always up for new phrases & ideas. Inspiration comes from everywhere. It's amazing what people say on Facebook. Watch out - that could end up in a song! 9:00 - Wood respects the ideas that other songwriters share as part of their own creative work. Though inspiration is everywhere, ideas shared as titles or "works in progress" are not up for grabs. 9:35 - Tim & Miles Thompson had the idea for the song, "It's Time For Me To Go" & Wood helped them phrase it. One of his strong suits is creating phrases that work easily for the singer. Great video on YouTube. 10:33 - Wood has collaborated with so many other songwriters. He talks about the benefits of collaboration & the way that process continues to benefit him even when he's writing solo. 11:40 - When you're writing with another artist & the hair on your arms stands up, you've probably got something! The intuitive nature of creativity is where the power lies - & that comes into play in business, relationships, & every other endeavor. 12:26 - Wood relies on his intuition as his editor in writing & business. He's been published by Sony, Jerry Crutchfield at MCA, Kenny O'Dell & Bob Montgomery at House of Gold Music, Jim & David Malloy, Even Stevens & Eddie Rabbit. Wood counts on his intuition to alert him to what direction to take, even moreso now that he runs his own publishing business. 13:30 - Wood pays close attention to his emotions about an idea when writing. Joy, sadness, & fun are all guides. He loves the comedy of Roger Miller. What a laugh! 13:58 - Miller's song "Husbands & Wives" brings forth strong emotions. Wood talks about the premise of this song, pride, being the demise of many good relationships. Celebrating his 42nd wedding anniversary on the date of this video shoot, we discuss the richness of lasting relationships. 15:09 - There's freedom in commitment. Wood tells the story of meeting a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary & telling them, "That's a good start!" He also tells of marrying Gloria in Oklahoma because there was no waiting period. When he shared their story on Facebook, it got more "likes" & comments than anything he's ever posted - & he has over 5000 fans there. That says something about the fact that people ultimately want good, lasting relationships. Wood talks about never taking your relationships for granted. 16:57 - Many young men have come forward searching for answers to that these days. Wood is happy to share his wisdom with them in these personal areas & is also open to creative collaboration with writers getting their start. 17:53 - Wood is very real & open, not interested in shallow relationships. That kind of openness is what brings success - in eve...

As a professional singer her experience ranges from session singing to every conceivable form of live performance! From casual work and nationwide tours, to appearances at prominent clubs with Big Bands, various lounge acts, her own Top 40 band, and as a solo artist, musical director, and backup singer/opening act for major artists (Crystal Gale, Richie Havens, Jonathan Cain, Stella Parton, Eddie Rabbit), she brings a “know-how” to her teaching and producing that is immeasurable. Summers says "Los Angeles Women in Music has always held a special place in my heart and is an organization that I truly feel has a reason to exist if we tend to its potential. Our mission statement is a powerful and positive platform! If we let it be our guide as we move forward, we can make our mark and make a difference in our community and in the industry that is our passion. There is no doubt that we face some challenges. The music industry is inundated with organizations competing for people’s time and support. But, I firmly believe that if we come together in a focused and directed manner, we can harness our strengths and carve out a unique place for LAWIM in a meaningful role and with a sense of purpose. No matter the changes that we may make in the coming months ahead, the principle foundation and philosophy of LAWIM will prevail. I encourage us all to empower ourselves and each other to “find our way” and share the vision…" Other Affiliations: AFTRA, SAG, NARAS, SOS, ASCAP Website: www.leannesummers.com

Welcome back to the gang! Good to see more and more people are hearing about the Conspiracy! In this association of people, we fight to defend individual freedom and markets, and we offer information and humor to give our friends intellectual ammunition to combat attacks by statists! This program, derived from the syndicated Liberty Conspiracy Radio show, gives you some interesting information about how socialist Bruce Springsteen was hoist by his own collectivist petard while playing in London. (Don't worry, we won't torture you by playing any of his music.) Then we're joined by FURB of The Freedom Bookclub (visit it!) to study the claims made by the current President of the US regarding General Motors false "comeback" and why the claims are false. We offer numbers and facts, things which aren't often provided in the pop media any more. And we look at more of his claims, especially when it comes to taxes...
