Burnout can sneak into every corner of life - your work, your relationships, even the way you show up as a parent! I call it “grief in the brain,” because it quietly drains energy and joy while convincing you that you're not doing enough. The real shift comes when you stop chasing discipline and start building a framework that helps you feel steady and whole again. In this episode, I share the idea of a flow menu, a tool I use with my mentees and in my own life. It's a way to organize activities that restore balance into categories like movement, nourishment, play, thought, and peace. Having those choices ready gives you a lifeline when your mind feels cluttered or your body feels tense. I'll show you how to create your own flow menu and why it works as both a preventative and healing practice. My hope is that you walk away with a clear reminder that flourishing happens when you honor your energy and make small, intentional choices that support the life you want to live. Your sweet preschooler just turned into a pint-sized whirlwind—kicking, screaming, and even hitting. Before you panic or punish, listen in. Dr Justin and Kylie Coulson unpack why three-year-olds lash out, why it’s actually developmentally normal, and the calm, practical steps that help them (and you) find peace. Key Points Why hitting at age three is common—and not a sign you’re raising a violent teen. The real drivers: big emotions, low impulse control, limited language. Three core responses: stay regulated, set clear limits, redirect with movement or creative outlets. After the storm: empathic conversations and rehearsal for “next time.” Prevention tips: check the HALTS (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, Stressed) and keep screen time low. Quote of the Episode “Regulating emotions is harder than learning to walk or tie shoelaces. Your job is to stay the adult while your child learns.” – Dr Justin Coulson Resources Mentioned Little People, Big Feelings [Webinar] – practical tools for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. Little People, Big Feelings [The Summit] Action Steps for Parents Stay calm—model the regulation you want your child to learn. State the boundary—“We have gentle hands. Hitting hurts.” Redirect energy—offer drawing, movement, or grounding games. Debrief later—when calm, problem-solve and rehearse next time. Check the basics—food, sleep, connection, and screen habits. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this solo episode of Leaders On Purpose Podcast, I dive into one of the most essential life skills: regulating our nervous system when we're triggered. No matter how much personal growth we do, triggers never disappear — they show up in parenting, at work, in relationships, and even in daily interactions. What matters is not avoiding them, but learning how to return to balance, presence, and calm. In this episode, I explore: ✨ Why we get triggered and what happens in the brain and body ✨ The hidden costs of staying dysregulated ✨ My personal experience with ice baths — and how controlled stress builds resilience ✨ Practical strategies you can use right away to regulate in the moment and prevent future dysregulation This conversation is an invitation to see triggers not as enemies, but as teachers — pointing us toward growth and alignment.
Regulating Responsibility: The Rise of EPR Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is quickly reshaping how companies approach packaging, waste management, and sustainability. In this episode of Environmental L.A.W.S., Tanya Nesbitt sits down with Gareth McDonald, Principal Consultant at Worley Consulting, to break down what EPR really means in practice. They explore: How EPR laws are taking shape across U.S. states Lessons from Canada's longer track record with EPR Cross-border and global compliance considerations Where EPR policy is headed in the next five years Whether you advise companies, manage sustainability programs, or want a clearer view of the future of product stewardship, this conversation offers practical insights and a forward-looking perspective.

*How do you lead change when you don't know where you are going (yet)? * Today I sit down with Brian Miller, a change management expert from Coach Approach Ministries, to talk about adaptive change. Adaptive change is when you know something needs to change, but you don't yet know what the solution is. It's not just fixing a broken pipe—it's realizing the whole plumbing system might need to be rethought. It's the kind of change that requires people to shift their values, beliefs, and behaviors, not just learn a new skill. And that's why it's hard—because it's not just about doing something different, it's about becoming someone different. When you lead this kind of change, the danger isn't just that people leave—it's that they check out. So Brian focuses on the following things: keep the pace people can handle, invite them into shaping the vision, really listen to the voices of concern, and anchor the change in habits and identity. That way, people don't just stick around—they stay engaged in the mission. Have you ever raised your voice at your kids and felt the sting of regret almost before the words were out? Every mom has been there, caught in the self-loathing aftermath. Motherhood has a way of pulling buried feelings to the surface. It can feel scary and out of control when we're swept up in a current that surprises us. Today's guest says the kids aren't the problem—it's our nervous systems. In today's conversation, Whitney connects with Sammy Chessa, a nervous system guide who gets real about her own motherhood journey. Sammy remembers the season of cycling between yelling and shame, holding it together on the outside while quietly unraveling within. What shifted was her decision to meet herself differently, to notice what her body was saying and finding tools to help her mother from a steadier place. She discovered a new truth: success begins with a calm nervous system. From that calm, new rhythms take root, rhythms of trust, presence and devotion instead of depletion. Sammy's insights on simple practices, honoring feminine rhythms and trusting intuition will leave you both grounded and inspired. Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: Sammy's parenting style before learning how to parent from a more grounded place Taking the time to accept and feel all of our emotions as moms Signs that our nervous systems are sending us an alarm bell Cultivating a personal practice that makes your nervous system feel safe Respecting your natural feminine rhythms Lessons Sammy hopes to teach her daughter if she chooses to become a mother Breaking away from self-sabotage as moms Seeing motherhood as a devotion rather than a chore Reflection question to ponder: How am I truly feeling wholeheartedly? In this episode, Lisa, from The Infinite Unfolding joins Nikki as they explore how the central nervous system shapes our ability—and our dogs' ability—to feel safe, calm, and connected. Just like people, dogs can become dysregulated when stress overwhelms their nervous system, leading to reactivity, fear, or shutdown. We'll break down the science of regulation, discuss the signs of nervous system imbalance in both species, and share practical strategies for restoring balance. From breathing techniques and movement for humans, to choice, predictability, and enrichment for dogs, you'll learn how small changes can create big shifts in nervous system health. Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: After 157 years, AJC plans to stop print by end of the year After 157 years, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is saying goodbye to print. Come Dec. 31, the presses will stop, and the AJC will go fully digital, President Andrew Morse announced Thursday. The AJC’s history dates back to 1868, just after the Civil War. Now, Atlanta will be the largest U.S. metro without a daily print paper—a sign of the times, Morse said, but also a step forward. STORY 2: Judge dismisses Carr campaign lawsuit against Jones A federal judge tossed out Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr’s lawsuit Thursday, which claimed a 2021 law unfairly boosts Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in their upcoming Republican gubernatorial primary. The law lets certain officials, like Jones, create “leadership committees” to raise unlimited campaign funds—something Carr, as attorney general, can’t do. U.S. District Judge Victoria Marie Calvert ruled Carr didn’t have standing to sue. Carr’s team hinted at an appeal, calling the ruling “technical” and the law “unfair.” STORY 3: All Aboard! Zoo Atlanta's new Safari Express is on the tracks Zoo Atlanta’s got something fresh for your Labor Day plans: the Safari Express, a reimagined version of the beloved Norfolk Southern Zoo Train. This isn’t just a ride—it’s a mini adventure. With Skylar, your guest conductor, you’ll glide past vibrant scenes of giraffes, lemurs, and lions while learning quirky animal facts. Did you know giraffes only need 30 minutes of sleep a day? Wild, right? Jennifer Smith, Zoo Atlanta’s COO, called it “a joyful new way to connect kids—and let’s be honest, adults too—to the magic of wildlife.” Bonus: it’s electric, comfy, and eco-friendly. Different seats, same vision: balancing growth with community values. Shunverie, with nearly 20 years in education and DEI leadership, faces incumbent Bob Foreman for Post 2. Zach, a youth soccer coach, is vying for Post 4. Meanwhile, in Auburn, incumbents Taylor Sisk and Robert Vogel III are defending their City Council seats against challengers Johnathen Eggleston and James Matthews. In Dacula, Erica Pope is back, running against Jason Shelton after losing by just 10 votes in 2023. STORY 7: Parents call for regulation of tech companies that target kids Kids glued to screens, families struggling to connect, and parents left wondering: how did it get this bad? That’s what Georgia lawmakers are trying to figure out. On Wednesday, a bipartisan committee kicked off hearings on the impact of social media and AI on children. Sen. Sally Harrell shared how her own kids became “guinea pigs” for this tech experiment—dinners disrupted, books forgotten. But for some families, the stakes are far higher. Sharon Winkler testified her son took his life after online bullying. The challenge? Regulating tech giants. A 2023 law aimed at protecting kids is tied up in court, but lawmakers aren’t giving up. Zijn laatste boek heet “Regulating the Synthetic Society” (2024).

Send us a textMe Before PMDD: Relationship Reset Toolkit-CouplesClick to Book a Private PMDD SessionFollow me on InstagramFollow me on TikTokHave you ever wondered why your PMDD seems to create the same relationship conflicts month after month, despite your best efforts? The answer might not be in the condition itself, but in how your nervous system responds to stress.I never thought I'd be the person advocating for slowing down. As an Enneagram seven and someone who managed PMDD through constant motion, I viewed "being still" as inefficient and unnecessary. My morning routines were sacred—walking my dog, working out, and setting my mind right before the day began. This approach worked... until it didn't.A herniated disc injury forced me to pause my usual coping mechanisms, leaving me terrified of facing my PMDD symptoms without my trusted movement practices. But something unexpected happened during a recent trip to Cabo where I couldn't engage in my usual activities—my sleep quality dramatically improved, my PMDD symptoms became more manageable, and I discovered a profound peace I hadn't known was possible. What I uncovered through this journey was that my nervous system had been chronically dysregulated, stuck in sympathetic "fight-flight-freeze" mode even when there was no danger. This dysregulation wasn't just affecting me—it was sabotaging my relationships by making genuine connection impossible. When we're operating from a dysregulated nervous system during PMDD, we trigger our partners' alarm systems too, creating a cycle where both people feel misunderstood, defensive, and emotionally exhausted. The roots of my compulsive "doing" traced back to childhood experiences in foster care, where I learned I needed to prove my worth to be loved and accepted. I brought this pattern into adult relationships, creating an unsustainable dynamic of hypervigilance that intensified during my luteal phase. If you recognize yourself in this pattern—whether you're the one with PMDD or the partner—there's hope. Regulating your nervous system is possible through awareness, conscious choices, and sometimes challenging your most fundamental beliefs about yourself. Ready to transform your PMDD relationships? Visit inlovewithpmdd.com to access my new "Rewire the Rage" program with practical tools for nervous system healing.
You're not “too sensitive”, you're dysregulated.
