Imagine walking into a tense meeting where emotions are running high and instead of trying to find the perfect words, you say just two simple ones that instantly shift the entire dynamic. It sounds almost too simple to work, but for Doug Noll, it's a proven method grounded in neuroscience and tested in some of the most extreme environments imaginable.   After 22 years as a trial lawyer, Doug Noll walked away from the courtroom to become a peacemaker, taking his work into maximum-security prisons, where he trained individuals serving life sentences for murder to become mediators and peacekeepers. Today, he brings those same battle-tested skills into boardrooms and leadership teams, helping organizations navigate conflict, rebuild trust, and transform how people communicate at work.    On this episode of The Workplace Communication Podcast, we're talking with Doug Noll, about the power of naming emotions and why most workplace communication advice misses the mark. Join us as we learn how to recognize what's really happening beneath the surface in high-stakes conversations, how to answer the brain's three subconscious questions, and how to shift from trying to control conversations to creating emotional safety that accelerates trust, collaboration, and results.    Leadership tips you won't want to miss:

Now she's Deputy Commissioner for Digital Financial Assets at the California DFPI, leading the rollout of the Digital Financial Assets Law, which goes live July 1, 2026, covering exchanges, custodians, stablecoin issuers, and crypto kiosks across the world's fourth-largest economy.Ari Redbord, TRM's Global Head of Policy, sits down with Brynly to talk through what California is actually trying to solve. IC3 data puts the state at the top of the country for crypto-related fraud losses, with serious harm to elderly residents and teenagers under 17. Her thesis: licensed intermediaries that recognize fraud patterns are the most powerful lever a regulator has. They also dig into how blockchain's public visibility changes what supervisors can see in real time — and what that means for every licensed business managing its own risk. Just before the legislation session wrapped in Springfield this week, Illinois lawmakers passed landmark legislation regulating artificial intelligence. Senate Bill 315 requires developers to publish reports explaining the capabilities and risks associated with its technology. It also mandates third-party audits. Illinois is one of just a handful of states pushing through laws that regulate AI. But in the absence of federal governance, the growing patchwork of state laws may not be enough to protect consumers as AI technologies rapidly evolve and expand. For more on the growth of A.I. and what enforcement of regulation could look like in Illinois, we hear from Illinois State Rep. Daniel Didech (D-Buffalo Grove) and AI expert Michael Bennett, associate vice chancellor for data science and AI strategy at University of Illinois Chicago.

This episode we are discussing food and drink regulations. A lawsuit that was recently settled involving Poppi, the pre-biotic soda brand, paid out to consumers on the basis that their claims around gut health were not founded in scientific evidence. Other than using science to help lawyers decide what can scientifically and legally be defined as a pancake, science influences many aspects of policy and laws, generally known as regulations. Today I talked with Neal Fortin, an attorney, the director of the Institute for Food Laws & Regulations, and a professor in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, and Jeffery Glazer, who works at the UW Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic with a focus on food and beverage regulation. At a time when tools for ‘nervous system regulation' are everywhere we look, it's easy to forget that we aren't meant to always be “regulated.” In this episode, I'm joined by Nkem Ndefo, trauma therapist, nurse-midwife, somatic practitioner, and founder of the Resilience Toolkit. Nkem brings a rare synthesis of biological training, lived experience, social activism, disability and systems thinking to their work. We dig into the limits of nervous system regulation as a panacea, the politics of the word "dysregulation," what birth and midwifery taught Nkem about intergenerational trauma, and why understanding just how interwoven physical and emotional healing are can be life-saving. We also explore the modality of Emotional Transformation Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and we even talk about the healing quality of colors. In this episode we discuss:Nkem's journey from community organizer and needle exchange worker, to nurse-midwife, to trauma therapist and somatic practitionerWhat birth taught her about the “long arms of intergenerational and historical trauma”Why medicine's hyper-specialization keeps people trapped in cycles of sufferingThe link between trauma, autoimmunity, and conditions like mast cell activation and why the "hardest to treat" psychiatric presentations may have an immunological rootWhy Nkem is moving away from the word "dysregulation" and toward the concept of “coherence”Utilizing light, color, and bilateral stimulation for rapid transformationWhat collective healing looks like when systems themselves are treated as organismsNkem Ndefo is foremost an alchemist and also a disabled Black midwife, facilitator, coach, and strategist. She is the founder of Lumos Transforms and creator of the Resilience Toolkit, vehicles for healing and liberatory change across borders and at all scales. Her work builds embodied capacity to stabilize the impacts of personal and collective trauma and catalyze structural transformation. Nkem has led multi-year initiatives in embodied antiracism, healing justice, and resilience capacity building across the U.S., the UK, and Palestine, and directs several certification and professional training programs internationally.Links: https://lumostransforms.com/https://theresiliencetoolkit.co/Resources:Find videos and bonus episodes: DEPTHWORK.SUBSTACK.COMGet the book: Mad Studies Reader: Interdisciplinary Innovations in Mental HealthBecome a member: The Institute for the Development of Human ArtsTrain with us: Transformative Mental Health Core CurriculumSessions & Information about the host: JazmineRussell.comDisclaimer: The DEPTH Work Podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only. “Revealing Is the Key to Healing the Concealing” A Deeper Look at Non-Persecutory Sight as Soul Medicine Inspired by the work of Raquel Hopkins Somewhere along the way, modern culture turned emotional growth into a backstage pass nobody ever stops checking. Everybody “processing.” Everybody “unpacking.” Everybody “working on themselves.” Meanwhile the rent still due, the children still growing, the body still aging, and loneliness sitting in the corner eating grapes like it pays utilities. Tonight's conversation asks an uncomfortable question: what if some people are no longer healing from life, but hiding from participation inside highly intelligent emotional language? Because there's a difference between self-awareness and self-surveillance. A lot of people no longer experience relationships directly. They experience themselves experiencing the relationship. Monitoring. Interpreting. Diagnosing. Regulating. Curating. The modern nervous system has become a full-time security team protecting the personality from embarrassment, rejection, uncertainty, criticism, disappointment, exposure, and ordinary human friction. Some folks don't need intimacy anymore — they need hazard insurance with eye contact. And the strange part? Society applauds it. Hyper-analysis now masquerades as wisdom. Emotional hesitation gets marketed as maturity. Avoidance gets rebranded as discernment. People disappear behind wellness language while calling it growth. But here's the deeper danger: concealment slowly converts the soul into customer service. Pleasant voice. Professional smile. Internal fire. Tonight we investigate whether true transformation begins not when pain disappears… but when pretending becomes more exhausting than being seen.

In this episode, I share a real client story that completely reframes how we think about weight loss, hormones, and long-term transformation. This is not a story about restriction or quick fixes. It's a story about time, nervous system regulation, identity, and deep internal healing. The StoryI began working with a woman who was dealing with:PCOSPremature menopauseA history of weight cyclingPrevious use of weight-loss medicationHer goal was simple: release about 20 pounds. But what we actually focused on was not weight — it was her foundation. We started with:Regulating her circadian rhythmImproving sleep qualityAdding whole, nourishing foodsReducing reliance on fast, processed mealsSupporting her hormonal system gently and consistentlyNo extremes. No restriction. No punishment.Just consistency and safety. The Turning PointAbout six months in, progress felt slower than she expected. Her doctor then offered medication support through a GLP-1 option, fully covered.Instead of rushing into it, I offered her a different perspective:What if we simply continued? You can always choose medication later. But what if we gave your body more time to adapt, regulate, and change? So we made a simple agreement: six more months of consistency. What I Teach Instead of Quick FixesThis is where most people misunderstand the process. They want speed. But the body requires safety first.I often explain it like this:If you're starting your health journey in a dysregulated state, it's like starting a business while in debt. Before growth happens, you need to return to zero. What “Zero” Actually MeansZero is not a number on a scale. It is a state where:You are emotionally regulatedYou are no longer using food to cope, numb, or escapeYou make conscious, grounded decisionsFood is no longer about control or restrictionThis is the foundation everything else is built on.The TransformationTwo years later, here's what happened:She released over 60 poundsShe never used GLP-1 medicationShe exercised less, not moreShe prioritized sleep over intense early-morning workoutsShe processed deep emotional wounds tied to divorce and fertility griefShe completely shifted her identityAnd the weight loss? That became a side effect — not the goal. The Real Root CauseWhat actually drove her eating wasn't food.It was:Unprocessed emotional painIdentity rooted in struggleNervous system dysregulationOnce those were addressed, her need to use food as a coping mechanism naturally faded.Identity ShiftShe stopped seeing herself as:Someone who can't lose weightSomeone stuck because of her diagnosisAnd became:Someone who nourishes her bodySomeone with boundariesSomeone who leads her choices consciouslyThat shift changed everything. My Perspective on GLP-1sI don't see tools like GLP-1 medications as good or bad.I see them as tools. They may support some people, especially as a bridge — but they are not a replacement for:emotional healingnervous system regulationidentity workbehavior changeAnd they come with risks that must be understood before use.Struggling with emotional or binge eating? And today, I want to show you how simple movement, not workouts, not routines, just movement can help you feel human again.SECTION 1: WHAT BURNOUT REALLY IS  Burnout isn't a personality flaw. It's not laziness. It's not a lack of discipline.Burnout is what happens when your body and mind have been in “go mode” for too long without a real chance to recover. Here's what burnout often looks like: You wake up tired, even after sleeping. You feel irritable or numb. Your brain feels foggy. You're doing the bare minimum just to get through the day and things you used to enjoy… don't hit the same anymore.Burnout is your body saying, “I can't keep running at this pace.”And the truth is most people don't realize burnout is a physiological state, not just an emotional one. Your nervous system gets stuck in fight‑or‑flight. Your stress hormones stay elevated. Your brain stops processing things clearly. This is why you can't “think” your way out of burnout. You have to move your way out of it.SECTION 2: WHY MOVEMENT HELPSNow, when I say movement helps burnout, I'm not talking about crushing a workout or pushing yourself harder.I'm talking about movement as a tool to regulate your nervous system. Here's what movement does:1. Movement completes the stress cycle.  When you're stressed, your body prepares for action, heart rate up, muscles tense, breathing shallow.Movement gives your body a way to release that built‑up tension.2. Movement increases oxygen and blood flow to the brain.  That's why even a short walk can clear your mind better than staring at your screen for another hour.3. Movement reconnects you with your body.  Burnout makes you feel disconnected like you're living from the neck up.Movement brings you back into yourself.4. Movement creates micro‑wins.  When work feels overwhelming, small physical wins rebuild confidence and momentum. And here's the key:Movement doesn't have to be intense to be effective. It just has to be intentional.SECTION 3: REFRAMING EXERCISE DURING BURNOUT When you're burned out, the goal is not to get stronger, faster, or leaner. The goal is relief. So let's reframe movement into three simple categories:Restorative movement:Walking, Stretching, Mobility, Slow yoga. This is movement that calms your system.Regulating movement:Light strength training, Cycling, Swimming. This is movement that helps you feel steady and grounded.Expressive movement:Dancing, Shadowboxing, Playing a sport. This is movement that lets emotion move through you.Pick the one your body needs today... not the one you think you “should” do.SECTION 4: 60‑SECOND RESET  Let's do a quick reset together, wherever you are.Sit tall.Unclench your jaw.Drop your shoulders.Place your feet on the ground.Take a slow inhale for 4…And exhale for 6…Roll your shoulders back.Relax your hands.Take one more slow breath... in… and out…That's it. That's your nervous system shifting gears.SECTION 5: LISTENER CHALLENGE Here's your challenge for the week:Five minutes of movement a day. Not to burn calories. Not to “work out.” Just to reset your brain.Walk around the block. Stretch your back. Do 10 squats. Dance to one song. Step outside and breathe.Five minutes. Every day. That's it. Burnout doesn't mean you're weak.It means you've been strong for too long without support.Movement is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to help your body feel safe again. You don't have to fix everything today. Just move a little, your body will meet you halfway.Thank you for taking time out of your day to spend it with me and I really do hope you enjoyed today's Monday morning brew series. If today's message helped you, share it with someone who might need it. Stay present, stay consistent, and keep building the identity you want to live in. Remember that You're capable, you're resilient, and you're not alone in this journey.Be a kind human, let us continue to help, let us continue to lift each-other up whenever possible... and remember that when it seems really dark when things are really tough... look for the helpers and always strive to be the change you want to see in the world... As always, take care of yourself, take care of your body, take care of your mind... In this rerun of our January series, we continue our series on The Anatomy of a Breakthrough, turning our attention to the first and most essential element of change: your state. Before we can rewrite our stories or find the right strategy, we need to understand the condition of our nervous system - because when we're dysregulated, overwhelmed, or operating from threat, meaningful change simply can't take root.In this episode, we explore nervous system regulation through a neurodivergent lens, including the often-overlooked (and heavily tied to masking) fawn response, the difference between reacting and responding, and why so many well-intentioned changes fall apart when our state isn't supported. You'll learn practical, body-based ways to regulate yourself - through breath, posture, movement, sensory input, and pace - and why working with the body is often far more effective than trying to think your way into calm. The episode closes with a gentle, grounding guided breathwork meditation, designed to help you settle your nervous system, return to safety, and reconnect with your capacity to respond to life with clarity and agency.Whether you're neurodivergent, highly sensitive, or simply feeling stretched thin, this episode offers a steady reminder: real change begins not with effort, but with regulation.❤️ Support the ShowIf this episode resonated with you:✅ Follow or Subscribe to The Neurodivergent Experience⭐ Leave a quick review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify

Have you ever found yourself in a moment where your child is hitting their sibling, stealing snacks, or yelling something hurtful, and all you can think is, “How do I make this stop?”But what if I told you that the very first thing you do when your kid acts out can change everything about how your child learns to manage their feelings and behaviors? In This Episode:Practical things you can say and do as a parent in order to create an emotionally safe environment, teach your kid to regulate their nervous system, and help them become an emotionally healthy personReal-life examples of how to validate emotions while also setting limits around behaviorHow to find clues that will help your child regulate their nervous systemTons of ways to help kids release emotional energy from their bodiesListen to learn exactly what to do the next time your child is acting out, so you can create more calm, safety, and connection in your home.--------------------------------------------Why Your Kid Acts Out (And Why Correction Isn't Step One)Let's start with something important: All behavior is communication. When your child is yelling, hitting, grabbing, or melting down, it's not just about disobedience. It's their way of coping with big feelings or an unmet need that they don't yet have the skills to communicate in a better way. When we immediately go to correction - "Stop it right now!” or “Don't do that!” - we're skipping over the real problem: the emotion or need underneath the behavior. If we move too quickly to discipline or redirection, kids don't learn how to name and manage what's happening inside. And honestly, they often have no idea what to do instead. This is why just correcting doesn't work, and why the chaos often repeats itself tomorrow, or even five minutes later. So, what's the first thing you should do when your child acts out? You connect before you correct. The Connection Tool is the heart of the Connected Parenting Process, and it's a practical, step-by-step way to help kids learn emotional regulation, from the inside out.The Connection ToolOne of my all-time favorite tools to teach parents is the Connection Tool. In it, you:Notice that something is off with your kidNarrate the behavior you're seeingName the emotionValidate how they're feelingRegulate the nervous system by helping them move through the feelingBasically, you're helping to connect the dots between what's going on on the outside and what's going on on the inside.Validation (letting your kid know that the way they're feeling makes sense) is crucial, because when kids feel seen and safe, their nervous system begins to calm. Emotional connection always comes before learning or problem solving.Once you've connected with their inner experience, you can move into regulating and problem-solving. Your child needs new ways to cope and to communicate their feelings, thoughts, and needs in ways that work. You can validate their emotion and set a limit at the same time. Ultimately, you give them the responsibility to figure out better ways to cope with that feeling in the circumstance that they're in.Here are a few examples:“It's not okay to grab your brother's snack, but you can ask me for a snack and I'll help you get one.”“If you need to move your body, let's do some jumping jacks together.” “You can't call out to Mommy at bedtime, so what can you do instead? Do you want to hold my scrunchie while we're apart from each other?”“You can't hit your brother, but you can hit this pillow.”Regulating emotion is a tricky thing. It's hard for all of us. Discharging emotion is almost always done through the body. We let the feelings that are stuck inside of us release through our hands, our voice, etc. The goal is to discharge that emotion in a way that doesn't hurt or cause problems for other people. You can suggest and show your child other ways to release or change their energy. And their behavior can serve as a clue to what they need. If they want to scream really loud, is there a way that they can regulate by screaming in a way that works for everybody? If they want to hit or be physical, is there a way that they can be physical that doesn't bother anybody? Try these movements:Do jumping jacksDrink a glass of waterWash their handsDo a shimmy-shakeHold your hands up and let them use their hands to push against youRoll them up in a blanketStomp their feetDo a small, simple task like putting a toy on the shelfShifting from Correction to Compassionate WitnessI know this approach can feel counterintuitive. Most of us grew up hearing, “Stop that!” or “If you don't calm down, you're in trouble.” It takes practice to pause, connect, and wonder about what your child is feeling or needing, instead of jumping right to judgment or solutions. And you might need to wait a little while for your child to regulate. If they're in the middle of a Big Feeling Cycle, talking to them and trying to coach them can actually be really triggering. Stay present in that compassionate or neutral space while recognizing this is a kid who's having a hard time. When my son was 4 years old, he would rage around the house everyday around 4pm. These intense meltdowns would last about 45 minutes - every day! I decided to shift into the role of witness. that I would be there to make sure he (and everyone else) was safe, but I didn't come at him with any big energy. Almost immediately, his Big Feeling Cycles were shorter and less frequent. Within a week or two, they were almost completely eliminated. Shifting your lens from “behavior judge” to “compassionate witness” is one of the most powerful changes you can make in your parenting. It means holding the thought, “My child isn't giving me a hard time. They are having a hard time.” This mindset shift alone can help you stay calmer and more regulated yourself, which in turn helps your child “borrow” your nervous system as they settle down too.As a parent, you are the emotional leader in your family. Kids' nervous systems are immature and easily activated. Everything is bigger, louder, and more extreme for them. Giving them grace, and modeling emotional regulation yourself, is a gift that will help them for years to come. This takes time, and that's okay. You have to learn to reframe the way you look at the behavior in the first place and then get better at making those guesses about what's actually going on for your kid.Keep practicing CALM. Take care of your nervous system and practice self-regulation. Look at your child's behavior from a compassionate (or even neutral) place. Your nervous system walks into the room before your words do. When we're mentally scattered, the people we care about feel it as divided attention, tight energy, and a subtle lack of safety. We want to be fully there, but “be present” is useless advice unless you have a repeatable way to get back into your body on demand. We share a simple seated grounding practice drawn from qigong inspired training and the idea of foot consciousness. You'll learn how to set it up with feet on the floor, how to use light movement to wake up sensation, and how to stop overthinking by feeling the ground directly. From there we guide a surprisingly powerful relaxation sequence: imagining the feet slowly melting, using shallow water imagery to release tension, and expanding attention up through calves and shins without straining or forcing focus. Then we add two game changing layers for nervous system regulation: a gentle lift at the back of the head to align the spine and a clear cue for pelvic floor relaxation. Finally, we bring in the breath, not to “push” intensity, but to deepen calm and widen your emotional bandwidth. Try it before a meeting, a date, or time with friends as a palate cleanser for your energy. If it helps, subscribe, share it with someone who runs on stress, and leave a review with what you noticed in your body.⬇️⬇️⬇️Watch this episode and many more on my Youtube channel!

Migraines aren't just headaches and if you've ever had one, you know how debilitating they can be. But they're not random, and they're not just genetic. Migraines are a signal that something deeper is out of balance in your body and if you only treat the symptoms, you miss the real opportunity to prevent them. In this episode, I break down what's really driving migraines, including: • The root causes most people miss—from inflammation and blood sugar swings to hormones, gut health, and nutrient deficiencies • Why migraines are a full-body neurological event, not just a head issue, and what that means for treatment • How your cycle, stress levels, and nervous system can lower your threshold and make migraines more likely • A functional medicine approach to prevention—simple shifts in diet, lifestyle, and nutrients that can reduce frequency and severity Migraines don't come out of nowhere—they happen when your body hits a threshold. When you lower the load and support your biology, you don't just manage migraines—you can actually start to prevent them. Hey Team! Today I'm talking with Jenna Free, a Master's-level Canadian Certified Counselor and ADHD coach, who focuses on polyvagal theory, which is to say, she helps people understand their nervous system. She works specifically with neurodivergent adults to move them out of the "fight, flight, or freeze" responses that make ADHD symptoms feel ten times heavier than they need to be. In our conversation, we're moving past the usual "tips and tricks" to look at the biological hardware of the ADHD brain and, more specifically, on nervous system regulation. We discuss the mechanics of dysregulation, why we often use anxiety as a secondary motor, and how to identify when our bodies have been stuck in survival mode for so long that we've forgotten what "calm" actually feels like. Be sure to check out Jenna's book The Simple Guide to ADHD Regulation: The Secret to Finding Balance, Getting Things Done, and Enjoying Your Life If you'd life to follow along on the show notes page you can find that at HackingYourADHD.com/292 YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/y835cnrk Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HackingYourADHD This Episode's Top Tips It's important to recognize that dysregulation is a physical state where blood flow moves from the brain to the limbs to prepare for danger. When we are in fight, flight, or freeze, our ADHD symptoms are amplified because our brain's higher-level processing is offline in favor of survival. While it is easy to rely on anxiety and panic to provide the "urgency" needed to start tasks, this can create a "frantic-crash cycle" where we use future resources to survive the present. When we focus on regulation, it can allow us to find a "sweet spot" of motivation that is sustainable rather than explosive. People-pleasing is often a survival strategy intended to keep others regulated so that we feel safe. By recognizing that our safety doesn't actually depend on everyone else liking us, it allows us to stop over-committing and resenting our schedules.

You can have the strategy, the roadmap, and the results to prove it, and still feel completely disconnected from your own leadership.   That's the quiet tension Jamelle Lindo has seen time and time again. After a decade in leadership roles, he realized something most organizations overlook: success isn't just built on intellect or execution - it's built on humanity. And when that piece is missing, even the highest performers can feel emotionally powerless.   As the creator of the Emotional Empowerment Process™, Jamelle works with leaders to help them reconnect with themselves in a way that fuels resilience, strengthens relationships, and sustains performance, especially in a workplace that's evolving faster than ever with AI. Because in a world driven by data and automation, the real advantage isn't more logic - it's deeper emotional connection.   On this episode of The Workplace Communication Podcast, we're talking with Jamelle Lindo, EQ Executive Coach and Founder of PARADIGM People Development, about leading with emotional empowerment in the age of AI. Crucial Moments: How Couples Can Navigate Triggers Without Destroying Connection Episode Overview What happens when a trigger hits in your relationship—and everything escalates? In this episode of the Human Intimacy Podcast, Dr. Kevin Skinner and MaryAnn Michaelis break down what they call “crucial moments”—those intense emotional experiences where couples either move toward healing or fall back into painful patterns. If you've ever found yourself stuck in the same argument, feeling unheard, or overwhelmed by emotional reactions, this episode will help you understand why those patterns happen—and how to change them. Why Triggers Feel So Overwhelming When a trigger hits, your brain shifts into survival mode. The amygdala activates, your nervous system becomes dysregulated, and your ability to communicate effectively drops. This is why: Conversations escalate quickly You repeat the same arguments You feel misunderstood or dismissed Your partner becomes defensive or shuts down Key Insight: You cannot create connection when your body is in a fight-or-flight state. The Missing Step in Relationship Repair Most couples try to fix the relationship while they're emotionally flooded. Dr. Skinner emphasizes a critical principle: Stabilize yourself first. Then engage your partner. Without emotional regulation, even the best communication tools won't work. Common Mistakes Couples Make During Conflict Many couples unknowingly reinforce disconnection during triggers. Watch for these patterns: 1. Marathon Conversations Trying to resolve everything in one conversation while both partners are overwhelmed 2. Defensiveness Disguised as Empathy Statements like: “I didn't mean to hurt you” “I'm sorry you feel that way” These often feel minimizing instead of supportive 3. Relying Only on Your Partner for Regulation Expecting your partner to calm you down when they may also be triggered 4. Repeating the Same Cycle Having the same argument over and over without new tools or awareness How to Respond in Triggered Moments (What Actually Works) 1. Pause and Regulate Before responding, ask yourself: Am I emotionally stable right now? Is my body calm enough to have this conversation? If not, step away and regulate first. 2. Use Outside Support Sometimes your partner is not the right person in that moment to help you regulate. Consider: A trusted friend A support group A mentor or sponsor This can help you return to the conversation with clarity. 3. Shift from Reactivity to Curiosity Instead of reacting, try: “Help me understand what you're experiencing” “Tell me more about what you're feeling” This lowers defensiveness and builds connection. 4. Take Responsibility for Your Emotional Response Your emotions are valid—but how you express them matters. Healthy communication includes: Emotional honesty Self-awareness Respectful expression Understanding the Power Struggle in Relationships After betrayal or disconnection, couples often fall into power imbalances: One partner holds information or control The other feels uncertain, hurt, or reactive True healing requires moving away from: “One-up / one-down” dynamics And toward: Mutual honesty, vulnerability, and accountability Why Some Couples Stay Stuck for Years If you feel like you're not making progress, it's often due to: Incomplete or staggered disclosure Lack of emotional regulation skills Repeating patterns without addressing root issues Avoiding deeper vulnerability Key Insight: Without new skills, the same patterns will continue—no matter how much you talk. A Better Way Forward Healing doesn't come from saying more—it comes from learning how to show up differently. That includes: Regulating your nervous system Communicating with clarity and compassion Practicing new patterns consistently Building emotional safety over time Key Takeaways You cannot be relational when you are emotionally dysregulated Personal stabilization is the foundation of relationship repair Triggers require skillful responses, not reactive ones Both partners play a role in creating change Progress comes from practice, not just insight Resources Mentioned in This Episode Intimacy Repair Method (IRM) Course Emotional Regulation & Nervous System Awareness Structured Disclosure Process Role Play Practice for Communication Skills Call to Action If your relationship feels stuck in repetitive conflict, you don't have to keep guessing. The Intimacy Repair Method Course provides a step-by-step process to help couples: Rebuild trust Improve communication Create lasting emotional connection

Can government catch up to a technology moving faster than any regulatory response ever has? Bradley and his Tusk Ventures partner Bob Greenlee work through two competing taxonomies: Bradley organized his around four areas of real impact (consumer protection, catastrophic risk, job displacement, and AI's potential to make government work better), while Bob's is built around political feasibility — what can actually get passed and when. The bracing conclusion is that landmark legislation is probably pie in the sky, which means the advantage goes to people who can keep thinking critically and asking the right questions.

We dig into why the epidemic of loneliness at work is a business risk most leaders aren't tracking, why Rhodes welcomes diversity of thought but draws a hard line at diversity of respect, how somatic leadership and nervous system regulation are becoming essential skills for leading through chaos, and what it means to support trans, non-binary, and gender diverse colleagues when just existing feels targeted. Rhodes also shares how burnout cracked him open five years into building his company, why he made unapologetic trans joy a personal commitment, and why the leaders we've been underestimating the longest are the ones this moment is calling for. Newt talks with former Congressman and physician Dr. Greg Ganske about the growing public health risks posed by online sports betting and emerging prediction markets, framed by a broader discussion of sports’ role in personal development and community life. Dr. Ganske argues that sports uniquely teach discipline, teamwork, goal setting, and community cohesion. He warns that the rapid expansion of online betting, driven by ubiquitous smartphone access and aggressive advertising campaigns featuring major sports leagues and star athletes, threatens this integrity by increasing incentives for cheating, point shaving, and manipulation at both professional and collegiate levels. Dr. Ganske highlights gambling disorder as a medically recognized condition associated with loss of control, financial ruin, deception, and bankruptcy, affecting an estimated 2-4 million Americans, with another roughly 10 million people at high risk. Their conversation also examines prediction markets on platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, which position themselves as regulated futures markets under the CFTC but, in Ganske’s view, exploit regulatory gaps while enabling betting on elections, assassination risks, and other sensitive events, compounding incentives for abuse. Dr. Ganske outlines potential federal responses, favoring regulation over outright bans due to constitutional and First Amendment concerns.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
