Mary Valdovinos grew up in Connecticut with a supportive family and was accepted to Yale, but a spiral that began junior year of high school led to addiction after graduation. She fell into the orbit of drug dealers, became a drug runner, and was arrested by the DEA for conspiracy to distribute. After violating probation—and a second chance—she landed in federal prison. In this candid interview, Mary shares what life inside was really like, the turning point that led her to recovery, and how she now mentors and empowers justice-impacted women. It's a raw, honest story of addiction, accountability, and second chances. #AddictionRecovery #TrueCrime #RedemptionStory #PrisonStories #WomenInPrison #JusticeReform #SecondChances #drugaddiction Connect with Mary Valdovinos: https://www.instagram.com/mary_epiphany?igsh=MW9kMTlkeG11ZXYzbA== Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 00:26 Mary's Upbringing and Family Values 04:39 Childhood Success and Early Pressures 08:38 Middle School, Bullying, and Finding Friends 12:39 High School Achievements and First Signs of Trouble 15:39 Partying, Drug Use, and Parental Denial 19:59 Addiction Deepens and Family Struggles 25:30 Running Drugs and Crime Escalates 32:06 Probation, Manipulation, and Second Chances 39:44 Relapse, Reconnection, and Fentanyl 44:47 DEA Raid and Arrest 53:10 Cooperation, Lies, and Facing Federal Charges 01:01:12 Court, Sentencing, and Probation Challenges 01:09:41 Final Probation Violation and Prison Sentence 01:17:18 Federal Prison and Detox 01:26:04 Prison Life, Survival, and Mental Health 01:33:09 Rehabilitation and Rebuilding After Prison 01:39:01 Making Amends, Lessons, and Advice Learn more about your ad choices. Jerry Colonna is an executive coach, author, and former venture capitalist who has been called "the CEO Whisperer." As the founder of Reboot.io, he works with leaders to foster both professional success and personal wholeness through the practice of radical self-inquiry. In this conversation, we explore Jerry's latest book "Reunion: Leadership and the Longing to Belong," which examines how reconnecting with our ancestral past can help us build a more compassionate future. Expect to learn: — How disconnection from our ancestral lineage contributes to our ability to "other" people in society today — Why understanding your own heritage creates an empathetic bridge to those different from you — Why letting go of the myth of meritocracy can be liberating for leaders — The relationship between feeling worthy of love, safety, and belonging and our ability to extend those gifts to others And more. You can learn more about Jerry's work, books, and coaching practice at https://www.reboot.io --- Jerry Colonna is a coach, writer, and speaker who focuses on leadership, business, and the practice of radical self-inquiry. A graduate of Queens College, Jerry helps people lead with humanity and equanimity. His unique blend of Buddhism, Jungian therapy, and entrepreneurial know-how has made him a sought-after coach and leader, working with some of the largest firms in the country. In his work as a coach, he draws on his experience in Venture Capital (VC) as Co-founder of Flatiron Partners, one of the most successful, early-stage investment programs. Later, he was a partner with J.P. Morgan Partners (JPMP), the private equity arm of J.P. Morgan Chase. Along with a strong commitment to the nonprofit sector, Jerry is the author of two books: REBOOT: Leadership and the Art of Growing Up (2019) and REUNION: Leadership and the Longing to Belong. Reboot was met with critical acclaim, stirring up a big question in the hearts and minds of people: “How have I been complicit in creating the conditions I say I don't want?” Jerry's second book builds on this question, asking us what benefit we get from the conditions we say we don't want. Jerry is astounded by the fact that he lives on a farm outside of Boulder, CO near the foothills of the Rockies, and far from the streets of Brooklyn where he was born and raised. If you like eco-therapy and/or Australian accents, you'll get both in this episode, as Carrie interviews John Seed, Deep Ecology father, founder/activist of the Rainforest Information Centre and co-author of the open-access book "Thinking Like a Mountain: Toward a Council of All Beings," and Dr. Tema Milstein (American turned Australian), Fulbright Scholar, and environmental communication Professor at Univ of New South Wales in Sydney. Both are co-facilitators of Deep Ecology workshops, that help reconnect us with each other and nature and heal our separation, like the compelling workshop I attended with them in Hobart Tasmania this June (you'll hear brief audio clips from that workshop of a kookaburra bird, Tema ringing bells, and my reflections after an emotional exercise). In this 56 minute interview, we describe some of my favorite workshop exercises like the council of all beings, breathing with trees, a solar system planetary walk, and the truth mandala (honouring our pain for the world). John also recites two poems by Robinson Jeffers. You can find out more about this eco-philosophy and everyday practice of Deep Ecology at John's websites below, and in the U.S. through "The Work That Reconnects" https://workthatreconnects.org/ https://www.facebook.com/johnseed.deepecology https://www.instagram.com/johnseed_deepecology/ https://substack.com/@johnseed Occasional blog posts at htpps://johnseed.net Podcasts, essays, films etc https://rainforestinfo.org.au/johnseed.htm "In Tune to Nature" is a weekly hour-long radio show airing Wednesdays at 6pm Eastern Time on 89.3FM-Atlanta radio and streaming worldwide on wrfg.org (Radio Free Georgia, a nonprofit indie station) hosted by me, Carrie Freeman, or Melody Paris. What if becoming a mother wasn't just a life event, but a profound transformation that reshapes your entire identity? In this episode of The Women's Vibrancy Code, Maraya Brown sits down with midwife and transformational coach Corina Fitch to explore the transformative journey of matrescence—the process of becoming a mother. Corina shares her personal experience transitioning from attending births to guiding women through the profound shifts of motherhood, especially after 35. The conversation highlights the emotional and physical changes women face, from stress and sleep deprivation to navigating career changes and societal pressures. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to understand the deep identity shifts that come with motherhood, the importance of self-care and support, and how women can embrace this transformative period with grace and empowerment. Also in this episode: Stress, societal pressures, and environmental factors heavily influence a woman's ability to conceive, particularly in her mid-30s and beyond. Women experience significant shifts in identity during motherhood, demanding new levels of self-compassion and a reevaluation of personal values and professional ambitions. The absence of traditional village models for raising children has highlighted the necessity of building modern support networks to combat loneliness and shame in motherhood. When supported properly, the journey of becoming a mother — and navigating matrescence — can lead to profound personal and professional transformations. About the guest: Corina Fitch is a midwife, matrescence facilitator, transformational coach, and founder of MotherFly. With over 30 years of experience walking alongside women in their journey to and through motherhood, Corina blends her clinical background as a midwife and NICU nurse with training in Feminine Power, embodiment, motherhood studies, and identity transformation. Having personally navigated the tender thresholds of motherhood, entrepreneurship, and purpose after the births of her three daughters, she now guides overwhelmed and purpose-driven mothers to rediscover themselves through the sacred portal of motherhood. Her work helps women move from surviving to thriving, integrating both their motherhood and their mission, so they can bring the fullest version of themselves to their children and the world. Sometimes, life writes love stories so unexpected, you couldn't make them up if you tried. Today's guests, Jennie and Bryan Drollinger, know precisely what it means to become lost and then, against all odds, be found. Years ago, Bryan and Jennie were young, in love, and full of possibility. But like so many couples, life had other plans. At a time where dating was limited to in person communication and catching someone at the right time on a land line, a few simple misses turned into misunderstandings. Bryan followed his path as a devout Mormon, got married, raised a family of seven, and built a successful career. Jenny married and settled into a marriage that blessed her with two beautiful children, yet there was an absence of that loving feeling she once dreamed of. Life brought challenges for both of them, including failed expectations, and the deep struggle of holding it all together, especially when marriage is intertwined with faith, community, and awareness that their lives were being spent more on the worst side, for better or worse.. Then came the unthinkable. Bryan's marriage ended, leaving him in one of the most challenging spaces of his life, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Simultaneously, as fate would have it, Jenny's marriage was ending as well, facing her own heartbreaks and growing pains. And then, the universe intervened. A random reconnection occurred when Bryan, needing an attorney, found himself seeking a consultation with the firm's paralegal. Her name? Jenny.. Sparks fared, and a realization that both of their winding, messy, painful roads had prepared them for this: a second chance at the love they once shared. Now, through their new podcast A Second Chance on Love, and upcoming book made for a movie, Bryan and Jennie are opening up about their journey, their lessons, and their hope for anyone who's wondering if it's too late to rewrite their love story. In this week's show Lian is joined by Stephanie MacKay. Stephanie is a mythologist, wilderness guide, and cultural craftswoman devoted to the long, slow work of remembering how to belong—to land, to lineage, to story, and to each other. As founder and director of Fianna Wilderness School, she has spent the past 15+ years guiding rites of passage, seasonal myth circles, and nature-based mentorship rooted in the wilds. Stephanie's work braids together her Celtic ancestry, years of deep study with Martín Prechtel and the Animas Valley Institute, and a fierce love of story as medicine. She is dedicated to uncovering the vestiges of intact cultural origins within the body of ancient European stories. Drawing from the wellspring of these old mythologies, she seeks to uncover the hidden pathways that lead us to our cultural origins—reviving traditions long forgotten and reawakening the deep cultural wisdom carried in our bones. Whether she's guiding wilderness quests, tending seasonal myth circles, or walking the long road of cultural regeneration, Stephanie's devotion is to the deep remembering of who we are and how we belong—through mythic threads that call us back into sacred relationship with the world. In this episode, Lian and Stephanie explore the deep, woven threads that bind our personal myths to the land beneath our feet. Together, they journey through the ways in which stories live within us… ancient seeds waiting for the right conditions to sprout. Stephanie reflects on how her own path led her from disconnection back into a living relationship with land and story, and how myth can offer us both memory and medicine. They explore the longing many of us feel to recover our cultural roots, and how stories act as carriers of ancestral wisdom across time and place. From childhood connections to the land, to the rediscovery of myth as a portal into belonging, they speak of how both land and story hold the potential to restore us to ourselves. Along the way, Lian and Stephanie reflect on myths such as Cinderella and Iron John… tales often dismissed yet still holding profound keys for our times. At the heart of this conversation is a reverence for the slow, relational work of remembering: tending to the land beneath us, listening for the stories that call us home, and understanding that these are not separate acts… but parts of the same ancient dance between earth and soul. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How reconnecting with the origins of our surroundings… even something as simple as a table or a weaving… can begin to restore our relationship with land and story. Why stories carry ancestral memory and wisdom, offering us a way back to belonging even when our cultural roots feel severed. How working with myth both psychologically and spiritually invites us into deeper relationship… with ourselves, with the land, and with the unseen. Feel yourself moving backward through time... not just years or decades, but eons, epochs, entire cosmic cycles. Your soul has been on an incredible journey of evolution, experiencing countless forms of existence, gathering wisdom, accumulating love, learning the deepest truths of the universe. And through it all, certain souls have been with you, traveling parallel paths, sharing adventures across the vast expanse of eternity. There was a moment... a cosmic moment of pure choice... when consciousness first began to individuate from the Source. Picture this if you can: vast fields of pure light, infinite awareness beginning to fragment into individual sparks of divine essence. And in that primordial moment of becoming, certain souls looked at each other with recognition that transcended all understanding. They chose each other. You chose each other. It wasn't random. It wasn't coincidence. It was cosmic love at first sight, soul recognizing soul, essence calling to essence. Your soul family formed in that moment of pure intention, pure love, pure commitment to journey together through whatever experiences awaited. You made vows to each other that span infinity - to find each other, to support each other, to remember each other no matter how far apart your paths might lead. Through this activation we begin the process of reconnection and coming back to your soul family. After listening to this activation you will find yourself connecting to your soul family in amazing ways.

In this week's show, Lian is joined by Karl Brooks, a long-term Be Mythical student and a much-loved member of our community within UNIO, whose journey from crisis to reclamation has been one of the most beautiful we've had the honour to witness. Karl has a deep connection with his inner child, who unbeknownst to him had been running most of his life behind the scenes, in his subconscious! When he began to make the unconscious, conscious, and start asking what his inner child wanted - to feel safe, see, held, respected, loved, all from an unconditional place, he found he held the key too, and no one else could fulfil the void that was ‘Karl-shaped'. He now wants to lead other men that are interested in connecting deeply within themselves, and breaking the patterns of childhood that are still causing havoc in their lives today. In this conversation, Lian and Karl explore the hidden stories that shape our sense of self, and the deep healing that becomes possible when we finally listen to the boy inside the man. Together, they journey through Karl's childhood adventures, his breakdown and awakening, and the tender work of inner reparenting that allowed him to become a man of depth, devotion, and strength. Through rich storytelling and honest reflection, this conversation reveals the generational threads that shape our beliefs about masculinity, love, and identity… and how those threads can be rewoven. Mythic threads weave through the episode: the wounded boy whose gifts were misunderstood, the ruptures passed from father to son, and the healing that happens when those wounds are no longer hidden. This is a conversation for anyone - man or woman - who senses that something essential got lost along the way… and is ready to listen for its return. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: Childhood experiences create the inner myths we unconsciously live by, until a rupture or opening invites us to rewrite them. Imagination, when turned inward upon ourselves, can distort our self-perception… or become a tool for healing and reconnection. Healing the inner child allows us to close the ruptures of the past, creating more wholeness in our relationships, our parenting, and our sense of self. In this episode, we take a deeper look at the slow, often unnoticed ways we begin to disconnect from ourselves—especially when survival, acceptance, or love seemed to depend on it. Whether it started in childhood or in a past relationship, the moment you began second-guessing your gut or hiding your truth was likely a moment of self-protection. But over time, those small choices can add up to a life that doesn't quite feel like your own. We'll explore how shame, emotional detachment, and a need for approval can pull us away from our true voice—and what it means to gently start coming home to yourself. You'll be invited to reflect on your own turning points, not with judgment, but with curiosity and compassion. Because the goal isn't to blame yourself for how you've coped—it's to recognize that you now have the power to choose something different. Three Takeaways: 1. There are moments in your story that quietly shaped how you relate to yourself - and they're worth revisiting with fresh eyes. 2. What feels like a personality trait might actually be a survival pattern you no longer need. 3. Reconnection doesn't happen in a single breakthrough - it's a series of tiny, loyal choices to stop leaving yourself behind. Coming back to yourself isn't dramatic. It's in the quiet choice to stop abandoning yourself - even in the small moments. Get your FREE Boundaries Ebook here! Rebbetzin Dini (Dina) Coopersmith is the trip leader and coordinator of women's learning trips to Israel through Women's Reconnection Trips. She has a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Jewish History. Rebbetzin Dini teaches in a number of seminaries in Jerusalem, where she lives with her husband and children. From this situation, only good will come, was the central theme of our enlightening conversation. Emunah--the belief that everything comes from Hashem (G-d), everything He does is good, and everything He does has a purpose--is the way Rebbetzin Dini lives her life. This is also the theme that runs through her Reconnection trips with women. The Level Up women's emunah and solidarity missions are designed to help women reconnect with each other, with themselves, and with Hashem, in a truly transformative way. The women visit historical places in Israel and they also spend time with people and families whose lives were directly impacted by the events of October 7. About Dr. Brittney Hobb: Dr. Brittney Hobbs is, a Pain Liberation Coach, clinical pharmacist, and certified Pain Reprocessing guide, who blends neuroscience, somatics, and intuitive healing to help women break free from chronic pain. After years of struggling with her own pain, that of her patients, and seeking answers beyond conventional medicine, Brittney discovered the profound connection between the brain, nervous system, and body. Now, through her signature Living Liberated program, she empowers women to understand pain as a messenger—not an enemy—so they can rewire their nervous systems, restore trust in their bodies, and reclaim their lives. Her transformative approach is built on five key pillars: Recognize the Protective Prison – Understanding chronic pain as an overprotection response. Embrace the Message of Pain – Learning to listen to the body's wisdom with compassion. Restore Safety and Trust – Teaching the nervous system that movement, feeling, and life itself are safe. Reclaim Your Power – Stepping into the role of the empowered heroine beyond pain. Reconnect with the Flow of Life – Aligning with natural rhythms, including menstrual cycles, intuition, and purpose. She merges science with soul, weaving together pain neuroscience, somatic healing, nervous system regulation, and feminine wisdom—including astrology, human design, and cyclical living. Whether in her women's healing circles or private coaching, Brittney helps her clients shift from frustration and fear to freedom and empowerment.
