Trust is like a mirror. You can fix it when it's broken but you can still the cracks in the reflection. If you built trust with your employees, then there is a chance you can break it as well. But how can you regain that trust if you break it?Today, I talk about how trust affects the performance of your employees. I explain why trust is so important, and provide an example of how easy it is to break that trust. I share some of the steps you can take to rebuild your employee's trust. As we discussed last week, there are three key steps to training and strengthening your emotional intelligence as well as the emotional intelligence of others. Step two in the journey to improving your EQ is to take a good, hard look at your ability to be emotionally empathetic toward others. According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, emotional empathy is when you feel physically aligned with another person – as if their emotions are contagious. It's when you feel a deeper connection with another person's feelings. This week, I explain what emotional empathy means and how it helps you improve your emotional intelligence. I discuss how emotional empathy helps us build deeper connections with the people around us and how asking your team to join a shared charity, cause, or community project can help strengthen their emotional empathy. I highlight how encouraging your team to spend time in less-formal, 1-to-1 settings focused on building their relationships with others can help improve their emotional empathy for the people they work with. I also explain why it's essential for leaders to listen to their team members to understand their point of view regarding an issue or problem and how it can help you connect with them on a deeper level.“Hold off on the judgment and be open to different ideas. We want to get an understanding of their emotional state, at that moment, and find a way to relate.” - Murtaza VersiThis week on Engage Relate Perform:● What emotional empathy means● How emotional empathy helps us build deeper connections with others● Understanding other people's emotional states ● Joining a shared charity, cause, or community project to strengthen your team's emotional empathy● Setting aside time to focus on 1-to-1 relationship-building activities● The importance of listening to understand● Examples of empathetic responses● The negative impact of ‘feeling-stopper' responsesEngage, Relate, Perform! Thanks for tuning into this week's episode of Engage Relate Perform. Do you believe it is possible to increase your own emotional intelligence? Is it possible to increase the EQ of others? According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, a person's emotional intelligence is a malleable, trainable skill – unlike your IQ. He argues that a person could even train their emotional intelligence well beyond its natural levels. So if EQ is a trainable skill, how can we work that skill like a muscle to build it up to that capacity? In today's episode, I explain what emotional intelligence is and discuss some of the key competencies of emotional intelligence. I explain how increasing your EQ can help you form better relationships. I explain what cognitive empathy is and share strategies you can use to improve it. I also discuss the benefits and drawbacks of using cognitive empathy skills when negotiating with others.“Having empathy increases the likelihood of helping others and showing compassion.” - Murtaza VersiThis week on Engage Relate Perform:● Understanding what emotional intelligence is● The connection between EQ and empathy● How increasing your EQ can help you build better relationships● Understanding cognitive empathy● How to improve your cognitive empathy● The benefits and drawbacks of using cognitive empathy skills when negotiating with othersEngage, Relate, Perform! Thanks for tuning into this week's episode of Engage Relate Perform. What do you perceive as superior customer service? When was the last time you entered a business and walked out thinking “Wow - they provide phenomenal customer service!” As we all know, many businesses and organizations tend to fall short when it comes to providing top-notch customer service – while for others, it seems as though it comes easily, or even naturally. So, what are the secret steps these companies are taking to ensure their employees consistently provide superior customer service? Today, I discuss the 6 core elements of superior customer service and how you can apply each element into your current workplace and position. I discuss how your employees' self-confidence and self-worth impacts the way they interact with customers. I explain the importance of teaching your employees how to provide caring communications when speaking with customers and why it's critical to regularly practice habits of courtesy. I share how listening to the customer and doing what you say you're going to do impacts how customers perceive your company and employees. In his book Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World, Admiral William H. McRaven posits that making your bed in the morning can change the trajectory of your day, and in turn, your life. Today, I talk about this idea. I expand on it, explaining why such a simple morning task has such a huge effect. I talk about the benefits of a morning routine, no matter how simple, and I note that these benefits affect your work-life balance, self care habits, general sense of accomplishment, and self-discipline. “Whatever morning routine you choose, it is less about the actions themselves and more about the time you take to carefully plan out how you are going to perform throughout the day.”- Murtaza Versi This week on the Engage Relate Perform Podcast: ● The power of making your bed● The benefits of a morning routine● Why making your bed counts as self care Resources Mentioned: ● Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life...And Maybe the World by Admiral William H.
