    Dr. Kay-Anne Darlington is an assistant professor of Communication at the University of Rio Grande, where she was recently selected as the winner of the 2020-2021 Edwin A. Jones Excellence in Teaching Award. She received her Bachelor's degree in Media and Communication from the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica; her MA in International Studies and her Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Ohio University where she also completed the Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) graduate certificate. Prior to graduate school, she worked throughout the Caribbean on social development projects that addressed HIV workplace policy implementation, teenage pregnancy, parenting, and early childhood development. In this episode, Dr. Darlington is going to share tips to financial wellness and career planning as international students.

    Jian “Ken” Guan passionately enjoys promoting the success of international students in American higher education to prospective students and their families. He is currently the Co-Chair of NASPA International Education Knowledge Community. Born and raised in China, he has worked and studied in eight campuses and geographic environments since 1998. He started from being an English language student in the United Kingdom to earning his doctorate in higher education at Indiana University Bloomington in the United States in 2017. He has served in various leadership roles related to internationalizing student affairs in professional organizations, such as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and American College Personnel Association. He has been featured on multiple U.S. campuses as a speaker on assessing and enhancing the services and support for international students for all students' success. In 2018, Ken was recognized by ACPA as the award recipient for Service to the International Community. Additionally, he is an opera singer with professional training. Ken is grateful for his educational journey in the United States. He has met great mentors and friends, who guided and championed him along the way.

Bianca Chau, Co-Host of Global Connections talked to Vicky Lee and Jeffrey Tsang about how they got to the U.S., leveraged their international student experience and passion to serve in the capacity they are in. Jeffrey Tsang is currently serving as an academic advisor in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University. He will be starting a PhD program in higher, adult and lifelong education at Michigan State University this fall with research interest in STEM education, educational technology ethics, and student success. Vicky Lee is the Student Engagement Coordinator and International Student Advisor in the Office for International Students & Scholars at Michigan State University. As a former international student, Vicky is extremely passionate about creating a more welcoming environment for a diverse student and scholar population, and fostering stronger family-school-community relationships especially in the higher education setting. In her free time, she loves to travel to new destinations, read fiction books, and explore different cooking recipes.
