Is Rico Verhoeven about to do the unthinkable and upset world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk? Well, no, of course he's not, but what Usyk ultimately looks like and how he wins are certainly worthwhile questions. So too is the status of the belts as, in different ways, each of the WBC, IBF and WBA somehow approve this as a championship contest. Better is the undercard where Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr meet in a solid heavyweight eliminator and Jack Catterall goes in tough against Shakram Glyasov. Hamzah Sheeraz, however, might have an even easier night than Usyk when he battles Alem Bagic for a vacant title. The Opening Bell, the independent voice in boxing. Learn more about your ad choices. Dwyer discussing boxer Diego Pacheco hiring Buddy McGirt as his trainer and avoiding Hamzah Sheeraz for now.
We sit down with Brooklyn’s own Edgar Berlanga for one of his most honest and revealing conversations yet. This isn’t just about boxing, this is about the man behind the fighter. Berlanga opens up about growing up in Brooklyn as a proud Puerto Rican, the influence of his family, and the complicated but powerful relationship he has with his father. Despite his father being in and out of prison throughout his life, Berlanga shares how that bond shaped him, and why love and motivation define their connection today. We also get into his career and what’s next. From his focus on making a major comeback in the ring, to having a deal in place and a fight date on the horizon, Berlanga addresses everything, including the tough loss to Hamzah Sheeraz on July 12 at the Armstrong Theater in Flushing. He speaks candidly about that moment, what he learned from it, and how it’s fueling his next chapter. We also talk potential matchups, including a possible clash with Chris Eubank Jr., and where he stands in today’s evolving boxing landscape, including his thoughts on influencer boxing and names like Jake Paul. Beyond the ring, this episode shows a different side of Berlanga. A father, a son, a provider, someone who gives back to his community and deeply values the people around him. He addresses the biggest misconceptions about him and how his flashy lifestyle and social media presence don’t always reflect who he truly is. And there’s another layer you might not expect, Berlanga talks about his love for music and reveals that he’s been creating music behind the scenes for years. Now, he’s stepping into that space publicly with his upcoming single “Baby Mama”, embracing a new level of vulnerability and creativity. This conversation is about growth, redemption, family, and identity. It’s about seeing the real Edgar Berlanga, not just the headlines, not just the highlight reels, but the human being behind it all.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is Hamzah Sheeraz on his way to becoming one of Britain's most decorated fighters? Fresh from his devastating fifth-round knockout of Edgar Berlanga in New York, Buncey sits down with the 26-year-old super middleweight to talk Canelo rumours, that unforgettable night at Flushing Meadows, and growing up idolising Amir Khan. Plus, discover how former Chelsea star Eden Hazard played a surprise role in Sheeraz's journey to the pros.
Will Dillian Whyte's experience overcome the youthful speed and agility of Moses Itauma, or will the 20-year-old prodigy prove too sharp for the veteran? Just some of the questions Buncey poses to Queensberry's Frank Warren, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom and top trainer Andy Lee. Warren offers the inside track on his rising star, Hearn gives his take from a neutral corner, and Lee analyses where the fight will be won or lost, and also updates us on his fighters, including Joseph Parker, Ben Whittaker, Hamzah Sheeraz and Paddy Donovan.

It's less than two years since Oleksandr Usyk convincingly defeated Daniel Dubois - so why is everyone so excited about the rematch? We examine exactly why, the low blow from fight one and Dubois' subsequent upturn in form, and make our picks for the Wembley Stadium showdown. Katie Taylor at last proved her superiority over Amanda Serrano, Shakur Stevenson turned up the excitement against William Zepeda and Hamzah Sheeraz, while thrashing Edgar Berlanga, signalled his arrival at super-middleweight. This week we had A LOT of fights. A historic all-women's card took place with Katie Taylor defeating Amanda Serrano for a third time. We talk about the fight, the impact the trilogy had on women's boxing, as well as the undercard with notable standouts being Ellie Scotney and Shadasia Green. Then, it is off to a four-fight card in New York, where Hamzah Sheeraz stopped Edgar Berlanga in five rounds. How good is Sheeraz? Was Berlanga overhyped? We discuss. Also, Shakur Stevenson defeated William Zepeda, Subriel Matias became a champion again defeating Alberto Puello, and David Morrell barely edged a close one with Imam Khataev. Lukie was at the ProBox TV card and shared his experience, which had a good main event in which Francisco Veron defeated Vladimir Hernandez. We have another busy week of fights for the summer coming up.On Friday, DAZN features heavyweight Gurgen Hovhannisyan-Chris Thomas, 10 rounds, and Angel Barrientes is the co-feature. Yokasta Valle defends her title in Costa Rica on Friday. First, Oleksandr Usyk-Daniel Dubois II. The card is fine, but I will say it isn't as star-studded as some of the recent offers on pay-per-view.Also, on pay-per-view, Mario Barrios puts his WBC welterweight title on the line against Manny Pacquiao. The co-feature is Sebastian Fundora-Tim Tszyu II. Also on the card, Isaac Cruz-Angel Fierro II, and Brandon Figueroa-Joet Gonzalez. Rounding out the week of action, Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez faces Phumelele Cafu in a junior bantamweight unification. Chris Algieri also joins the fellas to talk all things boxing including a preview of Manny Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios that's going down this Saturday in Vegas. With three KOs in his last four fights, would you be offended if Lewis was allowed to cut the line at heavyweight and be Tom Aspinall's next challenger given the extreme lack of depth at heavyweight? Plus, Katie Taylor outpoints Amanda Serrano in the end of trilogy fight, Hamzah Sheeraz brutally KOs Edgar Berlanga at the Ring III event and more!
