Arguably the greatest women's fighter in the sport was back and scored an emphatic win + we have fight news, including is the Fury-Joshua fight perhaps in jeopardy of not happening? We discuss it all on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives is back and insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite Substack and Newletter are both ready to give their insight.First, a recap of Saturday night's Salita Promotions DAZN card in AtlantaClaressa Shields TKO6 Kaye Scott and wins WBC/WBA women's middleweight titles. This wasn't much of a challenge and really, what else is out there for Shields in terms of competition. Then, an undercard fight was moved up, as Troy Isley W10 over Joseph Hicks in a real snoozer of a bout. That's becaue Ernesto “Tito” Mercado, who was in the initial co-feature, had his bout canceled twice when his opponent and a 24 hour eplacement both were way overweight!. What. Are. We. Doing. Here. With the weigh-in debacles?!Then, some NewsThe WBO has ordered super middleweight titlist Hamzah Sheeraz to next face former unified middleweight titlist Janibek Alimkhanuly. They have until Sept. 1 to make a deal. Janibek is still suspended until December for PED failed test!!!!!! Dan has more and both guys go off on the organizations just making up scenarios and rules Next, the ongoing nonsense about the site for Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua and some question if it will even happen now?? Zuffa Boxing's Dana talked about it after his UFC show Saturday night.  Also, IBF super middleweight titlist Osleys Iglesias will make his first defense against Oliver Zaren on Oct. 8 (DAZN) at the Theatre Capitole in Quebec City, Canada.  Update on Navarrate-Foster 130 unification. WBO announced they were told by promoters terms were agreed to but it will now have to decide whether to approve it force the mandatory with Saurez. Either way the fight will happen even if Navarrete drops the WBO title. Either a two-belt or a three-belt unification.  And, Former WBC featherweight titlist Mark Magsayo and Andres Cortes will meet in a 10-round lightweight bout that will open the Ryan Garcia-Conor Benn main card on Sept. 12 (Paramount+) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Zuffa Boxing announced. On episode 390 of The Neutral Corner Boxing Podcast, host Michael Montero reviews a loaded weekend of boxing with fights from around the world. The biggest event took place in Australia, where Tim Tszyu decisively beat Errol Spence Jr by unanimous decision. In other action, Anthony Joshua survived an early score to score a stoppage win in Saudi Arabia, while Tyson Fury secured a win in Thailand, setting up a long-awaited showdown between the two of them. Hamzah Sheeraz, Josh Kelly, Richardson Hitchins and Edgar Berlanga earned victories as well. https://www.youtube.com/live/ScfWRECCF70

Where did our heroes go? This week we saw Anthony Joshua survive two knockdowns to beat Kristian Prenga, and Tim Tszyu defeat Errol Spence Jr in a sad summer pay-per-view. Spence retired after the main event, and Joshua will move into a fight with Tyson Fury, who also fought this weekend (and also looked awful). We talk about Stephen Fulton, the "Cool Boy," missing weight and getting his fight canceled against Liam Wilson, as cool people do. Hamzah Sheeraz looked mid against Simon Zachenhuber. Sheeraz won a vacant title, but are we starting to wonder about his potential and clear favoritism toward his career?  Also, Josh Kelly got his nose busted up, winning a 12-round decision over Caoimhin Agyarko. This week, we have one major card. DAZN in partnership with TNT Sports will return with a lightweight bout between Lamont Roach Jr and William Zepeda. In the co-feature,  Raymond Muratalla will make the first defense of his IBF lightweight title against Robson Conceicao. Other notable bouts include welterweight Raul Curiel versus Quinton Randall, junior middleweight Charles Conwell versus Paul Kroll, and middleweight Fabian Guzman versus Aaron Coley. Joel Iriarte and Dylan Capetillo are prospects featured on this card as well.0:00 Intro1:07 Josh Kelly5:30 Hamzah Sheeraz9:45 Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury22:20 Tim Tszyu vs Errol Spence34:34 Lamont Roach Jr-William Zepeda41:00 Undercard

In this episode, Lukie and (Jason) Lagendorf talk about the return of Errol Spence Jr., who faces Tim Tszyu in Australia on pay-per-view. Three years ago, this would have been massive; now it just is what it is. A solid fight, but a lot of lingering “What ifs?” Does Spence still have it? (He hasn't fought since the Terence Crawford fight)Can Tszyu absorb punishment from a high-level fighter? The answers we don't know.An undercard bout with Jermall Charlo is now off, as he couldn't obtain a visa. Stephen Fulton's official lightweight debut against Liam Wilson will serve as the co-feature, with Australian talent rounding out the rest of the card. Then, we have two high-profile names back in action.Tyson Fury will fight Mariusz Wach in Thailand. As of now, I don't think they have announced how to watch it. Also, on pay-per-view, Anthony Joshua is facing Kristian Prenga. Is it safe to say Joshua is in the unserious part of his career? The pay-per-view card is shockingly thin. WBO super middleweight champ Hamzah Sheeraz will face Simon Zachenhuber. Zachenhuber lost to Pawel August on the previous Fury fight card, but August is buried on the undercard facing Jacob Bank, the man who stopped William Scull. Make it make sense. IBF welterweight champ Josh Kelly returns against Caoimhin Agyarko, which is a good fight, and Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Oleksandr Khyzhniak will fight. He is more Serhii Bohachuk than he is Lomachenko. Nishant Dev is always a nice treat to see on a card as well. Also, on Sunday at Zuffa Boxing, Edgar Berlanga will make his promotional debut against Steven Butler. Richardson Hitchins will face Ricardo Salas, not an easy debut, and middleweight Sergiy Derevyanchenko will open the main telecast against Jalil Hackett. The undercard is solid with Otto Wallin facing Vladyslav Sirenko, and the promotional debut of Dominique Francis. A good 50-50 fight between Arnold Gonzalez and Emiliano Moreno, and as always, featherweight Troy Nash Jr is must-see TV as he faces unbeaten Ethan Perez. This week, we saw Diego Pacheco stop Immanuwel Aleem. Now, we ask more questions… For my mailbag, I was asked if Pacheco looked different than when he fought Trevor McCumby. Lazily, I will ask Dakota. Buddy McGirt now trains Pacheco; did we see a difference? People seem divided on Pacheco – can we make sense of it all? Also on the undercard, Andy Cruz stopped Abraham Montoya in three rounds and appears headed to the junior lightweight division. Featherweight Albert Gonzalez stopped Aaron Alameda in two rounds. WOW! Also, Bruno Rios and Saul Sanchez had a classic that might get forgotten. You can visit The Good Fight here: http://TheGoodFight12.Substack.comTimestamps0:00 intro and thoughts on The Good Fight11:15 Too many pay-per-views ( Joshua and Spence vs. Tszyu)17:35 Spence vs. Tszyu30:32 Joshua and Tyson Fury fight previews37:24 Why I am mad for Pawel August 46:40 Thoughts on Diego Pacheco59:50 Bruno Rios vs. Saul Sanchez 01:03:50 Zuffa Boxing thoughts01:20:08 Andy Ruiz releases a rap song

Is Rico Verhoeven about to do the unthinkable and upset world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk? Well, no, of course he's not, but what Usyk ultimately looks like and how he wins are certainly worthwhile questions. So too is the status of the belts as, in different ways, each of the WBC, IBF and WBA somehow approve this as a championship contest. Better is the undercard where Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr meet in a solid heavyweight eliminator and Jack Catterall goes in tough against Shakram Glyasov. Hamzah Sheeraz, however, might have an even easier night than Usyk when he battles Alem Bagic for a vacant title. The Opening Bell, the independent voice in boxing. Learn more about your ad choices. We sit down with Brooklyn’s own Edgar Berlanga for one of his most honest and revealing conversations yet. This isn’t just about boxing, this is about the man behind the fighter. Berlanga opens up about growing up in Brooklyn as a proud Puerto Rican, the influence of his family, and the complicated but powerful relationship he has with his father. Despite his father being in and out of prison throughout his life, Berlanga shares how that bond shaped him, and why love and motivation define their connection today. We also get into his career and what’s next. From his focus on making a major comeback in the ring, to having a deal in place and a fight date on the horizon, Berlanga addresses everything, including the tough loss to Hamzah Sheeraz on July 12 at the Armstrong Theater in Flushing. He speaks candidly about that moment, what he learned from it, and how it’s fueling his next chapter. We also talk potential matchups, including a possible clash with Chris Eubank Jr., and where he stands in today’s evolving boxing landscape, including his thoughts on influencer boxing and names like Jake Paul. Beyond the ring, this episode shows a different side of Berlanga. A father, a son, a provider, someone who gives back to his community and deeply values the people around him. He addresses the biggest misconceptions about him and how his flashy lifestyle and social media presence don’t always reflect who he truly is. And there’s another layer you might not expect, Berlanga talks about his love for music and reveals that he’s been creating music behind the scenes for years. Now, he’s stepping into that space publicly with his upcoming single “Baby Mama”, embracing a new level of vulnerability and creativity. This conversation is about growth, redemption, family, and identity. It’s about seeing the real Edgar Berlanga, not just the headlines, not just the highlight reels, but the human being behind it all.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
