Michael begins by reflecting on the immediate aftermath of his highly controversial exit from the 2016 Olympics. Following this pivotal moment, he shifted his focus to professional boxing, opting to partner with Top Rank promotions in the United States. Michael discusses the process of relocating with his family to the U.S. and recounts his early successes in the professional arena. It wasn't long before he found himself headlining St. Patrick's Day events at Madison Square Garden in New York, captivating a large Irish audience. He opens up about the significant backlash he faced back home, stemming from the controversy surrounding his ring entrance music, and how some of the public's perception of him does not reflect his true character. Our conversation delves into notable bouts from his pro career, including a gratifying victory over his 2016 Olympic rival, Vladimir Nikitin, at MSG. He also secured both WBO and WBA continental titles, including a great win against former world champion TJ Doheny at Falls Park in 2021. This then positioned Michael for that much-anticipated shot at the world title against Leigh Wood in 2022. The matchup was unforgettable and Fight of the Year, but the last round defeat was the first setback in Michael's pro career. After some good wins, back-to-back defeats against Luis Alberto Lopez and Jordan Gill, Michael took a break from the ring for over a year to regroup. During this hiatus, he remained active, discovering a new passion for running and successfully completed a marathon in under three hours—a challenge he set for himself and accomplished. However, the call of boxing was undeniable, and following a 15-month absence, a recent victory has set him back on the right path. Michael continues to harbor ambitions of capturing that elusive world title, with the final chapter of his professional career yet to be written.
Vinnie and Brendan discuss the untimely death of heavyweight great and American Icon, George Foreman. The boys also chat about Sebastian Fundora's destruction of Chordale Booker and the robbery of Terrell Gausha. Also on the docket are Luis Alberto Lopez's return, Oscar Collazo's latest fight and of course William Zepeda / Tevin Farmer's much anticipated rematch. Write to us at keotbboxing@gmail.com. It was an exciting card in Quebec, Canada, as super middleweight rising star Christian Mbilli dominated Sergey Derevyanchenko to remain unbeaten and their was an upset in the heavyweight co-feature. We go over the fights, have some interesting fight news and Nigel Benn and Prince Naseem Hamed are part of the nostalgia this week on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast!"Host T.J. Rives is back with insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite Substack and Newsletter.First, they talk Mbilli's impressive showing in a 10 round decision over the vet from Ukraine. But, more so, why did Derevyanchenko's corner fail to save him in the final couple of rounds of the fight from the beating and obvious loss he was facing. You'll want to hear the ranting. Then, they talk Guido Vianello's upset of Arslanbek Makhmudov by 8th round TKO in the co-feature, as Makhmudov suffered a gruesomely swollen left eye early in the fight and Vianello pounded him into the doctor and ref calling a halt to the bout. Also, what's the next step for Vianello? Dan also gives his take on Top Rank rising lighweight Abdullah Mason who was also on the Canada card. They, then turn to fight news and the harsh update of Luis Alberto Lopez suffering a more significant brain injury by the KO loss to Angelo Leo for the IBF featherweight crown last Saturday night in New Mexico. Dan has more on that situation. And, then he is perplexed by why the IBF is apparently going to make Jaron "Boots" Ennis fight Karen Chukhadzhian again, a litte over a year and a half since Ennis wiped him out. It's insanity and you'll be entertained. Finally, there's some great nostalgia on "The Dark Destroyer" Nigel Benn winning a huge, brief title fight in Las Vegas on U.S. network TV over Iran Barkley nearly 34 years ago. And, Dan was ringside in 2000 for Prince Naseem Hamed with a big KO defense on an HBO main event. He has rememberances. It's all part of the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe to this podcast feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.

An action-packed weekend of fights leave us with a lot to talk about. For starters, Vergil Ortiz won a majority decision over Serhii Bohachuk, was it a good decision, we discuss. Also, Charles Conwell, Kenny Sims Jr., Gabriela Fundora and Cecilia Braekhus fought on the undercard – and Fresno's own Jordan Fuentes had a weird fight with James Mulder – details in the podcast. On ESPN, Angelo Leo became the new IBF featherweight titleholder knocking out Luis Alberto Lopez in the tenth round. What should we know about both. Junior welterweight Lindolfo Delgado won a split-decision over Bryan Flores...the bizarre case around Abraham Perez not being able to fight, Albert "Chop Chop" Gonzalez might be a capital G Guy and Alan "Kid Kansas" Garcia wins another fight. Also, a new IBF flyweight champion Angel Ayala won the vacant title. We have a sleep weekend of boxing for a bit now...This weekend has one major card that will be headlined by super middleweight Christian Mbilli vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Also on the card, a heavyweight fight between Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Guido Vianello, a super middleweight fight between Osleys Iglesias vs. Sena Agbeko, rising lightweight star Abdullah Mason vs. Mike Ohan Jr., and middleweight Jahi Tucker vs. Santiago FernandezTimestamps 0:00 Vergil Ortiz vs. Serhii Bohachuk Thoughts 18:00 Canelo-Turki Issue21:44 Future fights for Ortiz?24:50 Boxing vs. UFC debate 26:50 Undercard of #ortizbohachuk 30:20 Angelo Leo KOs Luis Alberto Lopez35:50 Lindolfo Delgado SD win over Bryan Flores40:00 Undercard of #LopezLeo 46:10 Christian Mbilli vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko Preview

It was a dramatic, spectacular weekend of action in both Las Vegas and Alburquerque, New Mexico as Vergil Oritz and Angeleo Leo emerged victorious in main events. Rives returns with Insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite substack/newsletter and BigFightWeekend.com to cover it all.Was Ortiz's narrow decision win over Serhii Bohachuck in a 12 round slugfest in the Golden Boy main event one of the fights of the year? It certainly looks like it, as Dan has more on how Vergil got off the ground not once but twice and still won. And, what happens for him next at 154 lb. now that he's the interim WBC champ? Then, we get to Leo's KO of Luis Alberto Lopez in the Top Rank/ESPN main event in Leo's hometown in New Mexico. Michael Conlan is not leaving. After a devastating 2023 in which he lost his second world title shot to Luis Alberto Lopez - followed by defeat against Jordan Gill in Belfast - he seriously considered hanging up the gloves. However he refreshed his mind and body by joining a running club and ran a sub-three hour marathon, he realised he had more to offer the boxing game. Conlan is now between trainers and is trialling some new cornermen as he awaits a bounce-back fight towards the end of the year. He opens up about the pain of defeat, controlling the ego, making tracks as a manager and the determination he has to underline line his legacy by bowing out with a world championship in his locker. Conlan also talks about his admiration for Pierce O'Leary, the rocky road taken by Anthony Cacace to world title glory, Kevin Cronin's progress in the pro ranks and the potential blockbuster bout between Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan. We also discuss Ireland's chances at the Paris Olympics. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The once dominant former champion "The Axe Man" Nicholas Walters returned to the ring in 2023 and is on a 3-fight win streak, now campaigning at Lightweight. Only time will tell if Walters has returned to seek a title or simply right the lone blemish on his record which came at the hands of "The Matrix" Vasyl Lomachenko 7 years ago.For Angelo Leo, he is now on a 4-fight win streak and in line to face Raymond Ford for his WBA Featherweight Title or "Venado" Luis Alberto Lopez for his IBF strap. A wild weekend of fights that saw a dramatic TKO win for Ray Ford for the WBA featherweight crown, a shocking cancellation of Amanda Serrano's Puerto Rico homecoming title defense, former UFC star turned boxing heavyweight Francis Ngannou joins us and more on the "Fight Freaks Unite Recap Podcast."Host T.J. Rives is back with Dan Rafael, insider of BigFightWeekend.com to cover all the relevant recaps, news, the interview iwth Ngannou and nostalgia.First, the guys talk the Top Rank Boxing main event Ford TKO of Otabek Kholmatov in the 12th and final round of a fight that he was losing on two of the scorecards. What about this bout as a "fight of the year candidate?" And, could their be a rematch? Dan has thoughts on that and also Luis Alberto Lopez scoring the KO over his Japanese challenger in the co-feature. Will Ford maybe fight Lopez next?Next, T.J. talks with BigFightWeekend.com writer Saadeq Ahmed, who was in the arena in the Turning Stone Resort Arena in Verona, NY, for his thoughts on the Fod incredible win with just seconds left in a fight he loses, if the final bell rings. Saadeq relays how crazy and loud it was in the arena in this one.Next, T.J. and Dan talk the Jake Paul latest squash KO, as he beats Ryan Bourland, again in just a single round. What's the future of these kind of one sided, too easy bouts for Paul's credibility? Then, they talk the crazy eye injury for Amanda Serrano that kept her from fighting in her featherweight unified title defense. What happened and what does it mean for Serrano's future? Great insight here. Then, there's fight news on Canelo Alvarez maybe returning to PBC and Amazon for PPV after all? What broadcast outlet and against whom will he fight coming May 4th? Dan has the latest on what he's found out.Dan goes over other news on Jermell Charlo being stripped of his final belt at 154 and Terence Crawford is looking at deals as a promotional free agent now. Finally, some GREAT nostalgia on the Rafael Marquez and Israel Vasquez anniversary of two of their fights.
