Chris Paul and Burning Bright tackle Francis Ford Coppola's 1974 sequel The Godfather Part II, considered by many to be the greatest film of all time and certainly the greatest sequel. Starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and John Cazale as the unforgettable Fredo, this is one of the rare second installments that completely flips the tone of the original and absolutely earns it. The conversation circles the dual storylines of young Vito building an empire from immigrant nothing in New York and Michael unraveling the same empire from inside his Tahoe compound. Burning Bright argues that De Niro's Vito chases power because he saw what power does to people, while Michael only knows how to hold onto power he was handed, making him a pale shadow of his father even as he ascends to greater heights. They unpack the Fanucci scene as a perfect lesson in how abstract power collapses the moment someone calls the bluff, the Hyman Roth and Meyer Lansky parallel with Cuba in 1958 as a preview of what may be coming again, the Joker analog for Michael's endgame of just winning, and Kay's spite abortion as a stunning window into how openly anti family the 1970s really were.
Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Big Vito doesn't just tell wrestling stories, he tells them like a guy who lived every mile of the road and still protects the business. We sit down with Vito alongside WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and dig into the moments fans still argue about: the infamous dress gimmick, the reality of “passing the test” in a locker room, and why kayfabe only works when you commit with your whole body and your whole voice. If you care about wrestling psychology, heel work, and how character turns into real crowd control, this one hits fast.We also get into why Vito's current JCW run has people calling it the best work of his career. He breaks down how he builds heat, how he thinks about promos and facials, and why a veteran's real job is to elevate everyone around him, not just win segments. From there, the conversation opens up into family history, including the Lucky Luciano connection, plus what Johnny Rodz taught him about toughness, conditioning, and never showing weakness. Then it's pure locker room gold: ECW memories, working with Rob Van Dam, WCW highlights, a Terry Funk moment Vito says he'll never forget, and even the “work or shoot” Vegas confrontation that had fans split. We wrap with updates on The Don's Final Offer, new merch, an upcoming action figure, and a few final thoughts that only come from decades in the ring.Subscribe for more conversations like this, share the episode with a wrestling fan who loves the old stories, and leave us a review with your favorite Big Vito moment.Send us Fan Mail

Before Laurel Canyon became a myth, it was a room. This is Part 2 of my deep dive into David McGowan's Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream. In Part 1, we looked at Laurel Canyon from above: the military family backgrounds, Lookout Mountain, and the strange feeling that the official hippie dream had something sitting over it in the hills. In this episode, we go inside the rooms. This part gets into Vito Paulekas and the Freaks, the strange dancers and scene-makers who helped create the atmosphere around the early Los Angeles counterculture. These were not just random people in the crowd. They helped make the scene feel like something was happening before the public fully understood what the “hippie dream” even was. Then the story gets darker. We talk about Godo Paulekas, Kenneth Anger, Lucifer Rising, Bobby Beausoleil, occult film, performance, young runaways, unsafe rooms, and the question that keeps coming up throughout this whole series:What kind of freedom was this, and who was actually safe inside it?This episode covers:Vito PaulekasThe FreaksGodo PaulekasKenneth AngerLucifer RisingBobby BeausoleilLaurel CanyonThe Sunset StripThe early countercultureThe dark side of the hippie dreamThis series is not about pretending every connection proves one giant conspiracy. Some of this is documented history, some of it is David McGowan's interpretation, some of it is speculation, and some of it is just extremely weird. The goal is not paranoia. The goal is discernment.Website: https://idiotmystic.comBlog: https://idiotmystic.com/blogDiscord: https://discord.gg/dXKjhZrZmMInstagram: https://instagram.com/idiotmysticTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@idiotmystic
Chris Paul and Burning Bright finally sit down with Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 masterpiece The Godfather, based on the Mario Puzo novel and starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton. Both guys came to it fresh, with Burning Bright admitting he had never even watched it before this episode, and walked away convinced it absolutely lives up to its legendary reputation. The conversation centers on the changing of the guard from Vito's old world honor culture to Michael's coldly pragmatic zero sum game, with Sonny stuck as a will without tact and Tom Hagen as the official interpreter who fails because the rule set itself is dying. They dig into the controlled opposition between honor and business as two different justifications for chasing the same worldly prize, why both sides are spiritually bankrupt, and how Vito's actual power projection in his youth is what makes his soft power work as an old man. From there they go big picture on Donald Trump as Vito (and maybe as Michael), narrative warfare as the prime lever of power rather than an ancillary tool, mandate cultivation versus mandate manufacturing, the horse head as the perfect actual narrative fusion, and why don't insult my intelligence is finally where the audience is landing on the regime.

Step inside the recording studio to understand more about one of the greatest voices of our time, Celine Dion. My guest is Vito Luprano, the Sony Music executive and creative force who worked on 21 of Celine's albums and helped shape her rise from a shy francophone teenager into an international superstar. Vito found the songs. Fought for the sound. Pushed for the reinvention. And helped Celine move from French-language success to global domination. He shares some of Celine's iconic moments, from "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" to "I Drove All Night," "Taking Chances," "Alone," and the unforgettable story behind "My Heart Will Go On." This is a rare look behind the curtain at one of the world's greatest stars, her journey to the top, her songs, the tension, and her heartbreak when she lost Rene, the love of her life.

This is a Vintage episode from 2007Why This Episode MattersThough this is a vintage episode, many of the producers and traditions discussed here remain part of the American artisan cheese conversation today.American artisan cheese was growing fast, and this conversation captures the moment when local cheese in the U.S. stopped being a curiosity and became a movement.Jeff Roberts explains how better-informed consumers helped create demand for small producers, regional specialties, and more thoughtful food buying. The episode highlights New Jersey makers proving that great American cheese is not limited to Vermont or California. This conversation connects flavor, farming, craftsmanship, and local economies in a way that still feels highly relevant.Anyone interested in cheese, local food, food culture, or where American food got more interesting will find plenty here. The BanterMark Pascal and Francis Schott open with a run through food trivia from Gourmet magazine, including America's limited eaters, the national devotion to ketchup, and the little problem of people eating more “low-fat” junk because the label told them to feel virtuous. The ConversationJeff Roberts joins the show to discuss The Atlas of American Artisan Cheese and the dramatic expansion of American cheese makers over the previous decade. He explains how consumer taste changed the market and why artisan cheese matters not only for flavor, but for farming, community, and regional identity. The conversation moves through Vermont, Cabot, and the broader American cheese landscape before landing in New Jersey, where Roberts praises producers and fresh mozzarella traditions that most people would never think to place in a national cheese conversation. The episode also explores early goat-cheese pioneers, the stories behind small producers, and the idea that every food choice has consequences far beyond the table.Timestamps00:00 – Food trivia, ketchup loyalty, and the “low-fat” trap06:00 – Jeff Roberts on the boom in American artisan cheese09:00 – How consumers changed the cheese market13:00 – New Jersey cheese makers, Fiore's, Vito's, Bobolink, and Valley Shepherd20:00 – Why artisan cheese is really a story about people and place23:00 – Douglas Newbold and the early days of American goat cheese28:00 – Seasonal cheese, pungent cheddar, and tasting with courageBioJeff Roberts is the author of The Atlas of American Artisan Cheese. #chrisdistefano Chris is back with another chaotic episode — and this one has everything. We're going audio only (deal with it), calling fans for advice instead of giving it, and trying to figure out if Chris is even capable of owning a Siberian Husky. Things spiral fast when a “fox sighting” turns into a full sprint from… a squirrel. Chris calls dog trainer Justin Silver for real advice, but somehow ends up talking peptides, shock collars, and whether you can train a dog like a four-legged child. Then it's Knicks courtside stories — including Tracy Morgan demanding Vito “lock the f*** in,” plus an all-time awkward celebrity interaction. We also get into: Chris potentially coaching his daughter's T-ball team (terrifying) A secret bundt cake addiction Saint John's obsession reaching dangerous levels And whether Chris is about to abandon his family for March Madness PLUS — the debut of the Reverse Advice Hotline.
Federico analiza cómo Patxi López en sede parlamentaria insultó a un periodista al preguntarle por la excarcelación de Anboto.
Chrissy Chaos is BACK — and this time it's audio only. Chris Distefano and Vito are back together after a long break, diving into everything from moving out of NYC, buying a house, anxiety spirals, relationships, and whether Chris made the biggest mistake of his life. From breaking a lawn mower on day one… to questioning EVERYTHING… to discovering peptides and internet health conspiracies — this episode is peak Chrissy Chaos. If you've ever made a big life decision and immediately panicked… this one's for you.
On this episode of Unglossy, we sit down with legendary producer Don Vito for a wide-ranging conversation about hustle, reinvention, and the long road behind the hits. From growing up in Gary, Indiana, to serving in the Marine Corps, to finding his way into Atlanta's exploding music scene, Don shares the unconventional path that led him to work with artists like Nelly, Ciara, Bow Wow, Cherish, and Kandi Burruss. Along the way, he breaks down the realities of the music business, the difference between making beats and making records, and why some artists reach the top while others sabotage their own success. But Don's story doesn't stop with hit records. After navigating the highs and shifts of the music industry, he pivoted into podcasting, digital media, and content strategy, earning the nickname “The Podfather.” In this episode, he pulls back the curtain on how creators can turn podcasts into real businesses—and why most people are approaching it the wrong way. It's a conversation full of industry war stories, hard lessons, and unexpected insights about building something that lasts in an industry that's constantly changing. If you care about music, media, entrepreneurship, or the future of podcasting, this is one you don't want to miss. Unglossy is a Merrick Studios podcast hosted by Bun B, Jeffrey Sledge and Tom Frank.
