It's fight week for the rematch for Emanuel Navarrete and Oscar Valdez as they battle for Navarrete's WBO 130 lb. world title Saturday night. And, before he headlines the Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card in Phoenix "Vaquero' Navarrete joins our insider Dan Rafael one on one (through an interpreter)..They covered several topics: How he thinks this fight will differ from their action-packed first fight that Navarrete won by decision; what it was like having that bout promoted like the great fights between his Mexican countrymen Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera (who both helped promote the bout and were ringside and Navarrete's thoughts on his draw with Robson Conceicao followed by his loss to Denys Berinchyk for the vacant WBO lightweight title. And, why is he making the decision to return to junior lightweight to face Valdez again in the mandatory bout, thoughts on someday returning to lightweight in an effort to win a title in a fourth division; and more.Hear it all on this special "Fight Freaks Unite Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe to this feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!

Lots of heavyweights are part of the newest edition of our show, as former unified heavyweight champ Andy Ruiz is a guest, British brawlers Joe Joyce and Derek Chisora meet in London, women's world champ Claressa Shields goes for history and we have lots of news and some excellent nostalgia on the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast."Host T.J. Rives is back with insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com to give their insight and analysis. The guys talk first about the formal announcement that Canelo Alvarez will return in September in Las Vegas against unbeaten contender Edgar Berlanga and why they are both intrigued by it.Then, it's Joyce and Chisora in the Queensberry Promotions main event for Saturday afternoon U.S. time, as T.J. wonders which fighter has much left after their recent losses. Still, as Dan asserts, these two will likely be trading big punches early and often without much defense.Next, Shields, a three division world champ meets little known, newly crowned WBC champ Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse of Quebec, Canada in a Saturday in the Salita Promotions/DAZN main event. Shields is an overwhelming favorite to win, but Dan is dubious about how valid this will be against an opponent that barely has any qualtiy experience. Then, Andy Ruiz joins Dan in advance of his heavyweight return after nearly two years off, as he meets Jarrell Miller on the Crawford-Madrimov undercard August 3rd. How serious is Ruiz about getting back to contention? Hear him with us.There's more fight news on Top Rank signing two prominent fighters, David Benavidez makes a career decision about his future and the WBC appropriately orders a rematch for Robson Conceicao and O'Shaquie Foster after the distastrous decision given to the Brazilian to take Foster's 130 lb. title. Finally, there's nostalgia on the anniversaries of Dan's first world title fight that he covered in 1998 involving Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson, a KO controversy learned more later from Antonio Magarito defeating Miguel Cotto with what were likely plastered hand wraps in 2008. And, Dan remember's tremendous American fighter Vernon Forrest on the tragic 15th anniversary of his murder in Atlanta, that came just over six months after he had regained a world championship. It's all on the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.

Reach out to me. I would love to hear your take! The event that was out in Newark, New Jersey with Keyshawn Davis and Abdullah Mason stealing the show and the night. The co-main event pinned O'Shaquie Foster vs Robson Conceicao in a one-sided affair that showed Foster easily winning the fight, however the judges witnessed an entirely different fight and awarded the victory and the title to Conceicao. A beyond controversial decision bordering with travesty. The main event showed the mastery and skill of Shakur Stevenson as he successfully defended his WBC Lightweight Strap. Since the fight, there has been a back and forth throughout social media from personalities and fans alike, all on board, as it relates to the unattractive style that Stevenson brings to the sport. Of course, as we've seen in the past, Stevenson doesn't like to be criticized and a war of words and threats have since ensued. And, also a huge career moving win for Shane Mosley Jr. over former two time world champ Daniel Jacobs in the super middleweight division. Then, T.J. and Dan discuss the Johnny Fisher first round bombing of Alan Babic in their Matchroom Boxing London main eevnt and what does it mean for Fisher's rise and short term future. And, they wrap with the Fernando Martinez upset of Kaz Ioka for the WBA/IBF super flyweight titles on Sunday night in Japan. Martinez dominated the Japanese star in a true upset, but once again, there was a HORRIBLE 12-0 card against Ioka, too. Bad judging knows no continent it won't find. There's fight news on a Brit that could be Canelo's next opponent and also, the pathetic, racist rantings of Ryan Garcia is the latest chapter in his downward spiral. T.J. and Dan talk whether he's ruined for awhile or even, maybe for good, at this point? Finally, there's nostalgia on the anniversary more bad judging and discipline from it in a Paul Williams decision win over Erislandy Lara world title fight 13 years and Dan was there. There's also an anniversary of future hall of famer Nonto Donaire's "coming out party" with a big KO on Showtime. And, Dan has thoughts and great personal stories on the what would have been legendary, hall of fame trainer and commentator Emanuel Steward's 80th birthday. It's a jammed packed weekend with fight cards all over the USA, the U.K. and even, a title unification in Japan on Sunday, too. We're ready to talk the bouts, the news and some great heavyweight title nostalgia from July 4th in the early 1900s, as well on the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast!"Host T.J. Rives is back with insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com to give us the insight on the weekend and all that's happening. We start with the Top Rank card in Newark, NJ as Shakur Stevenson defends his newly won WBC lightweight title against Artem Harutyunyan in a 12 rounder. We've well documented and hear from Shakur himself that this could be his last bout with Top Rank as their deal is expiring. How big a night must he have for leverage for his future? It's discussed. The guys go over the rest of the card including O'Shaquie Foster defending the WBC 130 lb. crown against Robson Conceicao in the co feature. Plus, Keyshawn Davis and Abdullah Mason both fight on the televised undercard too.The guys also talk the Anaheim, CA PPV for former UFC stars Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal boxing in a 10 round main event, but more prominently in the co-feature bout between veteran former two time champ Daniel Jacobs battling Shane Mosley Jr. in need of a signature in an intriguing super middleweight co-feature bout. Then, there's more, including the Golden Boy Boxing show in nearby Ontario, CA, as consensus #1 lightweight contender, unbeaten William Zepeda looks to soldify a world title shot fighting Giovanni Cabrera in the main event. One of our hosts believes that Zepeda should be Skakur Stevenson's next fight should they both win convincingly Saturday night. The guys also talk the Matchroom Boxing Saturday afternoon U.S. time, heavyweight clash between England's Johnny Fisher and Alan Babic in a scheduled 10 rounder, but will likely end with big punches and a KO from someone earlier than that. And, the fight previews wrap with the Sunday (early morning USA time) junior bantamweight WBA/IBF world title unifiication bout between Japn's Kaz Ioka and Argentina's Fernando Martinez in a 12 round showdown. The winner will potentially have big leverage to fight American Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez down the road for his WBC belt. There's fight news involving the WBA stripping two of it's champs a female and a male for testing positive for PEDs. Dan has the specifics. And, there are two interesting American names that Queensberry Promotions has signed that will be in the ring soon for them. Finally, some nostalgia on the Anniversary of Wladimir Klitschko defeating David "Ouch, my Toe" Haye in a heavyweight title defense in 2011. Plus, two more historically significant bouts took place in the early 1990s on July 4th 1910, as Jack Johnson, the most dominant heavyweight of the early part of the 20'th century, defeated Jim Jeffries in the first of several "Fight of the Century" bouts. And, Jack Dempsey "The Manassas Mauler" clobbering a much bigger Jess Willard to win the heavyweight crown in 1919.Hea it all on the newest "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast" and make suret to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!

We head into another weekend with a Thursday night championshp double header in Vegas to go over, fight to preview from England to L.A., fight news, nostalgia and more on the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast."Host T.J. Rives returns with insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com to go over it all starting with the horrific, dull, main event for Top Rank Boxing/ESPN as Shakur Stevenson got his hand raised in a 12 round decision for the WBC lightweight crown, but it was a putrid showing. His opponent Edwin De Los Santos did nothing throughout the bout and the fight was being booed in the arena from the middle rounds on. The boys go off with their takes on just how bad it was and how does Shakur's credibility recover? The co-feature was the opposite as Emanuel Navarrete outslugged Robson Conceicao in a wild 12 round battle. Navarrete scored two knockdowns, landed the bigger shots throughout, but Conceicao was busier and lasted the distance. In the end- it was a draw? Dan and T.J. give analysis and will we see it, again soon for Navarrete's 130 lb. title? Then, there is fight news, on the official Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk undisputed heavyweight title announcement and presser for February 17th. This came on the heels of the official announcement for December 23rd's stacked PPV invloving Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in separate fights, etc. Finally, the boys have great nostalgia on the near 40th anniversary of many of the 1984 U.S. Olympic fighters making their debuts at Madison Square Garden at NYC in 1984. Also, nostalgia on Roy Jones Jr.'s dominant performance over James Toney nearly 30 years ago and the Klitchsko brothers debut, as well. It's all on the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Appple, Google, Spreaker, Spotify, etc.!
