In today's episode, Fares breaks down a wild weekend in the world of combat sports.Starting with UFC Qatar, the Co-main sees Belal Muhammad suffer two eye pokes before getting outpointed by Ian Garry (1:43). Arman Tsarukyan continues to show why he's ahead of the rest of the contenders (6:34). Waldo Costa makes a real case for Fighter of the Year (13:42), leading into a debate: high-level MMA or high-level boxing (14:44)?Then we jump to the boxing world, where Riyadh Season delivered four title fights. Abdullah Mason becomes a newly crowned champion after a war with Sam Noakes (22:06). Fares' favorite fighter, Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, captures another world title with a finish (25:02). Devin Haney shows surprising power up a weight class (27:47). And David Benavidez dominates in his third fight at the new weight before announcing he plans to move up again for his next bout (33:09)https://www.instagram.com/thehbpod_/
Jesse ‘Bam' Rodriguez might not have been top of the bill in Saudi Arabia but, wow, his talent again suggested there are few - if any - below him when it comes to all-round brilliance. The headliner was David Benavidez proving his light-heavyweight prowess against Anthony Yarde. What does that emphatic stoppage mean for the man on the wrong end of it and is Benavidez wise to move up in weight again? Fight of the night came early on when Abdullah Mason resisted a tremendous effort from Sam Noakes to take the decision. That contest surely spells bright futures for both. And in our weekly trip to yesteryear, we cruise back to 1996 and a glorious slugfest between Michael Ayres and Colin Dunne for the British lightweight title. Thanks for your support. This week we had A LOT of fights. A historic all-women's card took place with Katie Taylor defeating Amanda Serrano for a third time. We talk about the fight, the impact the trilogy had on women's boxing, as well as the undercard with notable standouts being Ellie Scotney and Shadasia Green. Also, Shakur Stevenson defeated William Zepeda, Subriel Matias became a champion again defeating Alberto Puello, and David Morrell barely edged a close one with Imam Khataev. Lukie was at the ProBox TV card and shared his experience, which had a good main event in which Francisco Veron defeated Vladimir Hernandez. A huge fight week is underway with two massive events in boxing and the UFC, and you won't want to miss this episode of Morning Kombat! Luke and Brian kick things off by recapping this weekend's UFC Fight Night, where Carlos Prates scored a stunning knockout win over Neil Magny in the main event—his fourth KO of the year. With this victory, does Prates now solidify himself as a legitimate contender? Next, they dive into the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight, the biggest combat sports showdown of the week. What's Jake Paul's ultimate goal in boxing, and what would a win over Tyson do for his career? Despite Tyson being the betting underdog, how real are his chances of victory? And what happens to Paul if Tyson pulls off the upset? Will this event boost boxing or tarnish its reputation? The discussion then shifts to UFC 309, where Jon Jones faces Stipe Miocic in a legacy-defining fight. If both fighters retire afterward, what does their legacy look like? Should the winner of the co-main event between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler —or even the loser—face Max Holloway for the BMF belt next? Plus, how will the ongoing talk of Jones potentially ducking Miocic impact the fight? Finally, Luke and Brian wrap up the episode with a quick recap of ONE 169, as well as big wins from Jaron Ennis and Bam Rodriguez in boxing. Learn more about your ad choices.
