One of the many functions of the brain is to think. We never stop thinking; however, where we focus our attention is what really matters. We get carried away by the storytelling of the untamed mind. We let it run our lives and define who we are. Our thoughts can often get us in more trouble than we realize. After this episode, you will understand your mind better, how it can take over your life and how your true self can be in charge again. Your thoughts don't have to define your reality, and you can quiet the storyteller. For more info or to book a session with Dr. Gina visit: DrMadrigrano.com
We spend most of our time living in our heads. As a result, we have lost our connection to our gut, our intuition. Hindsight is always 20-20, and when we look back, we beat ourselves up for ignoring the signs. We dismiss our intuitive feelings, seeing them as exaggerations, invalidating them, doubting them and not trusting them. We intellectualize our way out of our gut feelings because of the possible ramifications of acting on them. After this episode, I hope many of you will want to start trusting your gut again and want to dive deeper into reacquainting yourselves back with that part of you that is always looking out for you: your inner GPS. In our first of a series of episodes discussing the principles laid out in the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, we are looking at the agreement to not make assumptions. Check out the show notes below for more details about the subjects covered! Making assumptions can really get us in trouble. We never know what other people are going through and often we assume the worst and not the good We can also assume people are just like us and then were disappointed or resentful Often assumptions are our projections onto others Don’t compare your insides to their outsides. We assume all is great and perfect or judge Same with kids… be generous in your assumptions assume lack of skill - Answer is to learn to communicate clearly, ask useful questions get off the defense When we make assumptions it impacts our energy our mood and how with act and then people are on the defense with us ,not surprisingly Resources: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz https://www.amazon.ca/Four-Agreements-Practical-Personal-Freedom/dp/1878424319/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=four+agreements&qid=1564166579&s=gateway&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=mom2mom06-20&linkId=86dfdc3321d98b316e9ed50298abd742&language=en_CA Visit Dr. Gina's website! http://www.drmadrigrano.com/
In this episode, Dr. Gina discusses different factors that contribute to a child’s anxiety : overprotection; helicopter/snowplow parenting; parental anxiety; too much exposure to screens. And the solutions : allow your kids to fail, don’t rescue them from difficult emotions but support them, be a soft place to land on, allow them to experience life’s challenges as it will build resiliency and self-esteem; they need to experience life first-hand; learn about the developmental stages of your child and learn to let go accordingly; most of all model healthy behaviour.
