Meeple Overboard! is a podcast about board games, the gaming community, and our little slice of heaven that plays them. We're Chris and Wendy, and we love board games. Each Saturday, we'll bring you a half-hour episode featuring three segments:1. Shop Talk! We'll discuss a general board gaming to…
Wendy and Chris discuss how much the nice little town of Homestead changes once school begins, and then we review a criminal investigation game called Detective; City of Angels by Van Ryder Games.
Chris and Wendy take a look at the reviews they did 2 years back and 4 years back including a lot of titles that either have rose colored glasses, a lot of love, a lot of less of love, or maybe we are thinking of trying them again. Maybe the audience could petition Wendy to try Broom Service again, who knows! We shall see what the future holds.
Chris and Wendy are back after a delay - there was a family emergency which took a lot out of us, even taking us out of town, so we're back, and we're talking about TWO designs by Hall of Fame Designer Phil Walker-Harding!
Chris and Wendy review a pile of games they've been playing recently, a standalone expansion for a solid deck building franchise, a children's game, and a new Martin Wallace title.
Chris and Wendy take a step into our time machine and talk about games that we reviewed two years and four years ago. We didn't really need to step into our time machine to do that, we could have just talked about our feelings about the games now. Good thing that's actually what we did. We don't even own a time machine. Not yet...
In this week's episode, Wendy and Chris discuss the top 5 games that are sitting on their shelf that they want to pull off and play next! Some are games we haven't played yet, some are favorites we are dying to pull out again. What are they gonna be? And will we play them soon?! Let's find out.
Chris and Wendy look back at our reviews from2 and 4 years ago!
Jamey Stegmaier was gracious enough to come on the show and discuss his design process for his brand new game Red Rising, co-desined with Alexander Schmidt. We talk about the missteps along the way and how it all came together, what he hopes people will get out of it and answers the hardest hitting, flavor-related questions in board game media.
Join Wendy and Chris as they talk about how they craft top 5 lists, learning to make Key Lime Pies, and Destinies, the new game by Lucky Duck Games.
Chris and Wendy discuss the topic of IP based board games in the same episode they review Red Rising, a game about a great series of books by the same name! Also, we talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It's hindsight time! This time we're looking at May of two and four years ago! There's plenty of good gamess to discuss, and plenty of bad jokes to be had. Hope you enjoy!
All of us are jealous at times, and even in board gaming there is no exception. So how do we overcome it? Then we discuss a Netflix children's series, The Dragon Prince. Lastly, we review CloudAge by Alexander Pfister and Arno Steinwender, with its post apocalyptic airships mixed with deck building.
Wendy has been painting, we've both been reading, and we're reviewing Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition, the card game based on the original. How does it hold up? Well, come along and find out.
We take a look back at the reviews we did two years ago, which includes the hindsight of four years ago. How do the games hold up? Let's see!
Two monsters enter the movie, only the audience comes out damaged. We discuss our thoughts upon watching Godzilla vs King Kong. Also, we review the retail edition of Marvel United by CMON games, a light-weight cooperative super hero games.
While nothing about the future is set in stone just yet, there's an upswing of hope for getting back together for conventions in the not-too-distant future. Therefore, we figured we would do our first Top 5 list in a little while, focusing on games that we personally are looking forward to play with other folks soon!
Wendy and Chris dive into two very popular IP-based co-op games. How thematic an experience does Stardew Vallely give you if you want to punch mutants? Does the X-Men game give you that peaceful feeling of growing crops? Come find out!
Chris and Wendy look at the reviews they did two years ago, and the ones they even did four years ago! We did a Top 5 list with Danny Quatch from Danny Plays Gamez. It was a fun time those many years ago, so let's relive them!
Chris and Wendy talk about the good part of taking a small break for a little bit, explain what Soap Dispenser Moments are, and then review Long Shot The Dice Game, a roll and write version of the original game that is quicker and smaller.
Rococo Deluxe by Eagle Gryphon Games is the huge box fancified new version of a classic, beloved game. How is it with the updated treatment? Well, still the same game as before, so let's talk about it. We also discuss recent news with Board Game Arena and talk about not punishing the behavior you want to see from people.
Wendy and Chris look back two years to the reviews we did in February of 2019, which includes our hindsight reviews of the games we covered in February fo 2017! We forgot that we've been doing hindsight episodes for so long that we're now hindsight-ing our hindsights. If HIndsight is 20/20, then this is 20/20/20/20? Anyway, we talk about a bunch of games AND we discuss the current Kickstarter game of CoraQuest that you can still back in mid-February. It's a heart-warming story, and we're happy for its success!
Don't call it a comeback. Or do. We're not the boss of you. But whatever you call it, Meeple Overboard is back on the air. We return to talk about the personal chaos of the last month and Chris beginning working full-time for the Dice Tower, and also we review Tapestry Plots and Ploys expansion by Stonemaier Games. Enjoy!
Welcome to the episode 200 spectacular of Meeple Overboard! Two! Hundred! Episodes! To celebrate, we're joined by special guest Jordan Hopper of the No Cube Zone for what the Brother's Murph have coined as the "One In a Hundred" list. We went through the Board Game Geek dot com rankings and chose our favorite game out of each page of 100 games. Therefore, out of the top 1,000 games, we were FORCED to chose 10 games spread fairly evenly throughout. It's great because it means we talk about games that seldom otherwise get mentioned. Enjoy!Yes, we know this was supposed to be posted as the last episode in 2020. A whole lot of life happened. We'll discuss it in the next episode of the show after we accidentally took our January hiatus early. All will be resolved. Enjoy the first new episode in like a month!
Wendy and Chris answer YOUR question today. For the 4th year in a row, we've continued the cherished traition of doing a Q&A episode. It's easy plannning on our part. Some heavy news to start with, but it is a fun, light-hearted episode with a lot of fun discussion that has been a nice break for us from the real world right now. Hope you enjoy!
It's the end of 2020, which means that it's time to assess the best games of the year! But not this year. We haven't played enough of them. How about the best games of 2019! Let's look back to the year when we were so wonderfully innocent and doe-eyed and playing "old" games.
Join Chris and Wendy as we re-review the games and the Top 5 lists we covered two years ago on the podcast during the month of December. Top 5 Games We Wish Existed with Billy "LBO" Dunmire, and Top 5 Puzzly Games with the Board Boys.
American Thanksgiving just happened, and we recorded on that day, so why not talk about some games we're thankful for. Not just games we like, but that somehow mean something kind of cooler to us. Check it!
Wendy and Chris talk about the reviews we did two years ago, including an interview with Nikki Valens, and some very hot games of their era. How do they stack up now? Well, suffer through some Goof Troop references, then find out!
Chris and Wendy review Sushi Go Party and all the other Phil Walker-Harding titles we've played. Why not talk about 10 games in a single episode! If you want to watch the aforementioned marathon of games we played in one night, go ahead and check out our YouTube channel!
We're discussing our Top 5 games that don't use victory points, particular a big tally of victory points at the end of the game, We're joined by two excellent guests, Amy and Maggie from ThinkerThemer, a great YouTube channel where they review board games from the perspective of a mechanisms perspective (Thinker) and the thematic and story-telling experience (Themer). Go check them out!

Chris and Wendy go through two games with excellent themes, anime classics and theme parks. Both games were provided us by the publishers Japanime Games and Blue Orange games. Enjoy!
Here with our bonus monthly episode ....okay, so we haven't done a monthly ketchup since March. It's been 2020, you understand of course. So, we wanted to do a special Ketchup episode where we talk about our journey through the year. It's not an episode for a lot of people because we kind of talk about games very little. We talk about the stress of life, the burnout we had with games, the struggle of finding balance in a year of upheaval, but also the great times and memories that we've made. Whatever it is, hopefully it feels real.
Chris and Wendy review a set of worker placement games with some nice unique themes and pleasant execution. Demon Worker was a review copy provided us by Japanime Games. Pan Am is a Target Exclusive game by Prospero Hall and Funko Games.
Chris interview Tony Miller, designer of Weird Giraffe's Fire in the Library and the upcoming Kabuto Sumo being published by BoardGameTables.com. We discuss the incredible story of how this game came into existence and became an instant hit with everyone who saw it. We also discuss the upcoming New Mill Industries and The Science and Seance Society. All stuff worth checking out! Also, for your reference, here are the organizations Tony recommended you could donate to:https://www.gofundme.com/f/louisville-mutual-aid-a-new-world-is-possiblehttps://bailproject.org/louisville/
Time for another double-header review of two games we reeived review copie sof, Cloud City by Blue Orange Games and Pendulum by Stonemaier Games. These are two different games, though quite unique from other games on the market. Enjoy!
It's hindsight time! Time to look back on the games we reviewed two years ago and see how they hold up. This particular month, we feel strongly about. We love doing these hindsight episodes, and hopefully you find them instructive as well!
It's time to discuss the conclusion to the entire Star Wars saga! Until they release Season 2 of the Mandalorian, and everybody forgets what happened in this movie to make Baby Yoda chicken nugget memes. But until then, this is what we have to discuss, so let's do it. The final, epic, and long conclusion to our review of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. At least thankfully all our reviews of the three movies were shorter than The Rise of Skywalker.
Continuing in our unneccessary and long analysis of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, we discuss the most divisive film, The Last Jedi. Yes, there's plenty to make fun of, but there's also some fantastic insights about religion and legend we discuss. Hope you enjoy.
As a bonus episode we owe our listeners, we're following through with our promise to review the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Since it ended up being very long. Veeery long. So, we split it into three parts. A "trilogy" one might call it. There WILL be spoilers for each film, so listen at your own discretion. Hope you enjoy as we discuss the Force Awakens, the film that started off the new generation of Star Wars in 2015.
Chris and Wendy sit down to discuss an upcoming game called Studies in Sorcery, or Degrees in Darkness as it was titled when we did our interview, soon to be kickstarted by Weird Giraffe Games. Chris Glein, the designer and artist, gives us a pleasant interview and teaches us about the Winston Draft used in his game. Enjoy!
Chris and Wendy review two very different games, Tybor the Builder, which we forgot to say, is a drafting game that works perfectly well for two players. But what else do the we think of this amazing game? You'll have to find out why we think it's amazing! And we also review Star Wars Imperial Assault, as we finally got to try the game. We played it in the fully cooperative version using the Legends of the Alliance app which runs the Empire for you. It was played with our 5 year old daughter, so it is a pretty family friendly game.
Chris and Wendy give a shout out to Timm Metivier from Meepleville, Las Vegas' best board game cafe and talk about his goings on in the world of board game media now! And then we review Phil Walker-Harding and Matthew Dunstan's Adventure Games: The Dungeon.
Chris and Wendy review two VERY different games this episode. Shaky Manor, by Blue Orange Games, is an adorable little dexterity game about sliding different meeples around a little cardboard house. The other is Tapestry, a civilization themed game with a fantastic presentation by Stonemaier Games. How do these two fare? Come give a listen.
In this episode, which is apparently a "Double Hitter' according to Wendy, we are taking on a review of two games, Egizia Shifting Sands by Strongholds Games and the Kennerspiel winner The Crew by Kosmos. Hope you enjoy.
Chris and Wendy look back to two years ago, much simpler times, when one of our biggest complaints was "Why would they make THAT into a movie?" We look back at our interviews with famed designer Phil Walker-Harding and creator of Dice Tower West, Timm Metivier. We also re-review Istanbul The Dice Game, and revisit the Top 5 Games We Want to Play But Haven't Yet list from August of 2018.
Chris flies solo today to talk about a game he was able to experience playing thanks to Plaid Hat Games' free social distance additions. Very great move of them, and so I'm here to tell you how it plays, and what to expect. I reckon if you go into this game with the right mindset, you'll have a great time.
Wendy and Chris are looking back at two years ago, at the games we reviewed then and some of the movies we watched. Enjoy or else.
Chris and Wendy revie two games sent to us by their publishers, My Little Scythe, an excellent game for kids and the family, and Roar and Write, a simple roll and write game with some more depth than appears.
