US equity futures are fractionally lower after yesterday's rally pushed the S&P 500 and Nasdaq to fresh record closes. Europe opened firmer and Asia finished mixed. Overnight narrative was largely upbeat, growing Fed rate cut expectations have provided the key directional driver, partly fueled by Trump scrutiny of Powell. Trade headlines remain front-and-center ahead of the 9—July tariff deadline: the White House says framework agreements with Canada and the EU are moving forward, while Japan and India talks still face sticking points over autos and market access. Senate Republicans continue amendment votes on the wide-ranging tax-and-spend bill, with final passage expected before the holiday. Soft US regional-activity surveys and falling job-vacancy indicators are feeding rate-cut expectations ahead of Thursday's non-farm payrolls and Chair Powell's remarks at Sintra this morning.Companies Mentioned: TikTok, Paramount Global, OpenAI, Alphabet

Buckle up for another wild ride on The Chad and Cheese Podcast, where our hosts sling hot takes faster than a fast food drive-thru! This episode's a global smorgasbord, kicking off with a shout-out to Portugal's national football team, who're apparently scoring goals like they're auditioning for a Hollywood blockbuster. Olé! Then, the lads pivot to Taco Bell's grand invasion of Ireland—because nothing says “Irish culture” like a Crunchwrap Supreme at 2 a.m.Next, they dive into the recruitment jungle (see what I did there?) to dissect Welcome to the Jungle, France's slick job platform trying to muscle into the U.S. market. Spoiler: it's like a croissant trying to compete with a double cheeseburger. The hosts break down whether this Euro import can hack it in the land of LinkedIn and Monster, all while preaching the gospel of “know thy market” like it's a recruitment sermon. The convo then zooms into the AI startup Thunderdome, pitting Sintra against Jet HR in a cage match of funding flexes and business models. Who's got the bigger war chest? Who's got the better buzzwords? It's like watching two tech bros arm-wrestle over venture capital. Things get spicy when they tackle AI and automation, with Amazon playing the role of job-market Godzilla, stomping through Europe's workforce like it's a bad kaiju flick. And because no podcast is complete without a moral panic, the hosts cap it off by wagging their fingers at social media's evil grip on today's youth. They're out here advocating for regulations to save kids from the horrors of endless TikTok scrolls—like digital knights in shining armor. Will Welcome to the Jungle conquer America? Will AI eat all our jobs? Will teens survive Instagram? Gotta watch to find out.

A independência de Moçambique vista de Portugal

Convidado

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 23, 2025 20:38

Send us a textImagine getting paid real cryptocurrency simply for walking. This isn't science fiction. It's the revolutionary model created by Sweat Economy that's bringing the next billion users into Web3 through something everyone already does daily.Walking through the breathtaking hills of Sintra, Portugal, Oleg Fomenko shares Sweat Economy's remarkable journey from their early days as Sweatcoin in 2014 to becoming one of the world's most downloaded fitness apps. Initially constrained by blockchain limitations, they operated centrally until 2022, when technology finally caught up with their vision. Now, through their Sweat token and non-custodial wallet, they've created a seamless experience that addresses the three critical barriers keeping mainstream users from embracing crypto: complicated products, poor user experience, and prohibitive entry costs. What makes their approach particularly refreshing is their focus on active users rather than Total Value Locked (TVL). While much of the crypto industry chases capital from whales, Sweat Economy builds for real people with real needs. "We want to bring the next billion people into Web3 and do it in an easy to understand, easy to use, and no barriers way," Oleg explains while demonstrating their model in real-time during our walking podcast.Their tokenomics incorporate clever mechanisms like requiring more steps for each additional token (similar to Bitcoin halving but happening continuously), and they've created innovative utility including activity-based staking—walk 10,000 steps today, earn 10% APY tomorrow—and an upcoming universal gas token feature letting users "pay fees with their feet" across multiple blockchains.Comparing crypto's current state to the internet around 2000, Oleg paints an exciting picture of what's next: "We're on the cusp of switching to consumer crypto... That gave us Google in 2003, Facebook in 2007. And that's where bulk of the returns and money on the internet were made." This shift from infrastructure to consumer applications is where Sweat Economy is positioning itself at the forefront. This episode was recorded during a walk in Sintra on June 12, 2025. An Intentional Life with Tina Tower

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 29, 2025 28:28

In this episode, Tina Tower takes listeners behind the scenes at South by Southwest (SXSW), her favorite tech conference. Having attended eight times, Tina shares her biggest takeaways, standout sessions, and key emerging tech trends—all with her signature candor and enthusiasm. This episode dives deep into AI trends, the loneliness epidemic, balancing technology and human connection, the environmental impact of AI, cybersecurity, and so much more. If you're keen to stay on the cutting edge of tech but also crave a more connected, fulfilling life, this one's for you. Key Takeaways: SXSW Overview: SXSW combines tech, music, and film; Tina focused on the tech track. It's a hub for learning, inspiration, and connecting with like-minded change makers. AI Everywhere: AI dominated the conference, but Tina questions whether mainstream desire matches tech-world hype. Small language models are emerging as more eco-friendly than large ones like GPT-4. AI agents, avatars, and robo-taxis are evolving fast—commercial fast-learning robots may be here by 2030. Human Connection & Loneliness: Keynote by Kasli Kalam emphasized the "loneliness epidemic." Her "5-3-1 Game": Connect with 5 people weekly, maintain 3 close relationships, and have 1 hour of quality interaction daily. Even introverts need meaningful connection, though the ideal amount varies. AI, Tech & Health: The paradox of embracing convenience tools while ensuring they support—not replace—human connection and mental health. Future health may involve mindset coaches as common as personal trainers. Ethics & Future Threats: A growing divide: people embracing vs. avoiding advanced tech (think brain chips and body-embedded sensors). Issues around trust in information and the growing need for credible journalism. Cybersecurity: Meredith Whitaker from Signal warned about privacy risks as AI agents start connecting all your personal information. Tips: Enable end-to-end encryption, especially for sensitive accounts like iCloud. Wonder & Curiosity: Beyond tech, nurture your community, stay curious, and deliberately step out of your echo chamber. The Need for Balance: Leverage AI for productivity, but use the gained time for real connection and human experiences. Draw boundaries with tech—seek more “off time” for happiness and well-being.   Whether you're a tech enthusiast or just trying to make sense of the digital world we're living in, this episode offers a grounded perspective with heart. Tune in to feel inspired, informed, and reminded that the future is human—tech is just the tool. This year, AI took center stage, with 3,000+ companies showcasing their innovations across bustling floors. As a Sintra local, attending the summit was a delightful escape from long-haul flights, though an impromptu trip to Belgium for an AI workshop meant I was flying back to Portugal just in time for the event. From intimate meetups scheduled via the WebSummit app to reconnecting with industry peers like Diego Borgo and Ethan Pierce, the experience was an exhilarating blend of chaos and connection. While there wasn't a dedicated Web3 stage this year, the spirit of Web3 thrived in side events like the DePIN Day by Outlier Ventures, where networking was anything but ordinary. Despite missing a main stage presence, Web3 was interwoven into every corner of the summit, promising a return next year. Each side gathering, whether atop a rooftop bar or amidst the buzzing meetups, turned into a serendipitous reunion of the Web3 community. Listen along as I recount these enriching exchanges, the thrill of bumping into familiar faces, and why WebSummit remains an unmissable gathering for tech enthusiasts worldwide. This episode was recorded via Descript on November 15, 2024. Robin Morales Reyes sent photos from Mexico: "☘️ Sainte from Mexico, Marc!"   Ken in Portland, CT emailed a photo: "Marc, my bagpipe band played several gigs , one of which was at the Portland CT Ale House pictured here. I am next to bass drummer second to the right wearing the brown driving cap inflatable leprechaun" Mitchell Dobrenen Family emailed a couple photos from Greenville, SC: "He prefers to lie down to listen."   José Teixeira emailed: "Hi Marc! I have started listening you podcast for some time now, a bit by accident when I was searching for music podcasts. For a long time I've been attracted by Celtic culture, that has influenced by some way the culture of northern Portugal, where I was born. My wife, though she was born in the south of the country  -  its a small country : - )  -  also enjoys Celtic art, and suddenly our eldest son was playing Galician bag pipe, what came by a surprise because there's no tradition of instrument playing in our families. By the way, we now we live in Sintra (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintra). Usually, I listen to you and the good music that you share during the weekend, while I take care of our garden or during my chores. About the end of Google Podcasts, there's a quite good alternative that I have been using at least for the last couple of years. It's called AntennaPod (https://antennapod.org/) and I sure it can help some of your android listeners. Obrigado pelo teu bom trabalho (Thank you for you good work). José"
