He's worked at a major record company, owned his own indie label, been an artist manager, tour manager, event producer, even a roadie.
What can I say about a man I've known for about 30 years who's gone from an actor, dancer and singer in a boy band to a major force in the Music Business? Well, today Damon Sharpe is a Grammy and ASCAP award-winning producer, songwriter, DJ and recording artist. Behind the scenes as a producer he's worked alongside Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Pitbull, and Alesso and so many more.... But on a personal note I'm excited to say that Damon is also focusing on his own music, and his new record company BRAINJACK! With more new unreleased music coming in 2023 the transition from “behind the scenes” to in front of them is continuing fast. As an artist he has over 87 Million streams (at this writing it's almost 1 million a month) and growing fast, and as a Producer/Songwriter he has over 2 Billion streams! On the DJ front, Damon has been playing live sets worldwide including EDC Vegas and SXSW! I recommend you follow Damon everywhere and connect with him on social media! Here's the link to the free video I mentioned: https://mikegoodrich.com/free Can you really 'Practice Less and Sing Better'? I'm here to tell you...YES! The key is to be much more efficient in your practice. In this episode of the Inner Singer Podcast, I'll outline a quick system you can use to absolutely guarantee better results then you may be getting. And, I can almost guarantee you're not doing this! Why do I know? Because in 31 years of teaching voice I've never met anyone who does what I'm about to tell you. (-: This will work if you do it. Enjoy!
Here's the link to the free video I mentioned: https://mikegoodrich.com/free In this episode I have my first ever interview with my friend and fabulous voice teacher, John Henny. John is my secret weapon when it comes to the science of voice and he's a genius at making complicated things, simple. Here's where youn can find John: https://johnhenny.com/ In this conversation he talks about one of my favorite subjects in voice and gets me to sing a few notes on my least favorite vowel...E! I think I did well...
Here's the link to the video I mentioned: https://mikegoodrich.com/free For years I was often discouraged or even angry because I was not a 'natural' singer! Ever felt like that? In this episode I create quite a case for why having to train to get great has it's advantages over being a 'natural' in the long run. Enjoy! Mike
Here's the link to the video I mention: https://mikegoodrich.com/free After over 30 years of training singers all over the world I've created a system for helping singers in all genres of music get great high notes. In this episode of the Inner Singer Podcast I tell you exactly what it is and how to use it. If you've ever struggled with high notes or developing a strong mix and belt then this one is for you.
Voice training is essential and very few singers do it as efficiently and effectively as they could. My 30 years of experience in training singers to be great tells me you may not be training effectively either. I certainly wasn't! I just know that singers are almost never taught how to train their voices. That ends today! In this episode I give you my 3 step framework for training your voice like an Olympian! Oh yes, we're all told to 'practice' but who actually wants to practice and who really knows how to anyway once you're away from your teacher (if you have one). That's why this episode will change your singing almost immediately if you apply what you'll discover here. I love doing this and I look forward to hearing how this framework helps you reach your singing goals! My gift to you is my Free Singing Accelerator Program. 3 Videos that will give you a way to maximize your voice and become the great singer you want to be. Go here to get it: https://www.mikegoodrich.com/mikesfreevideos Enjoy and take action, Mike
This is how to go to he next level as a singer... This episode is probably more for intermediate and advanced singers and it's for you if you're: 1. Feeling like you want to sing out in the world but you're not moving forward on it. 2. You're stuck and are loosing your ambition and inspiration to sing. 3. You're being told by friends and family that you sound really good and you should go sing or do a show. 4. You secretly want to go sing somewhere but you're afraid because you don't think you're good enough. 5. The idea makes you uncomfortable and you'd rather just stay a student or sing at home. If any of that is true then listen to this episode. I promise it will give you some inspiration to take action. Oh, and #6. If you don't want to listen to it then that's probably a good sign that you should. (-: And! You can get my Free Singing Accelerator Video Series here: www.mikegoodrich.com/mikesfreevideos It has 3 videos that will change your life and your voice if you use what I show you. I'm not exaggerating. (-: Move toward your dreams and enjoy, Mike
In this episode I give you techniques you can use immediately to begin fixing your break. You know what I'm talking about...that part of all voices that is the doorway to our high notes! The part of our voice that EVERY SONG SEEMS TO BE WRITTEN IN! (-: Lets face it...we all have to master this and the sooner the better! If you do the things I show you in this podcast you'll be well on your way to eliminating that darn break. And, if you want an easy to follow formula to help you with all this then you may want to pick up my '7 Step System for Mastering Any Song'. This will give you a formula for getting through your beak in your songs. It's the exact system I've been using every day with my students for many years. The program is embarrassingly inexpensive and comes with a fantastic bonus which is worth as much as the actual program. Really, don't be fooled that it's so inexpensive...it's great. You can find it here: https://www.innersingerhub.com/7steplanding Or to get my Free Singing Accelerator Video Series go here: https://www.innersingerhub.com/singingacceleratorlanding Enjoy and all good things to you, Mike
In this episode I address the topic of breathing in a very new way. This came up in a lesson the other day and I realized how many singers miss this incredibly important aspect or breathing for singing. This will change how you approach your songs and offer you some new tools which will help you hold notes longer, sing longer phrases and know exactly when and where to breath. So many singers miss this and when I lay out the steps you'll have a real 'aha!' moment. (-: Enjoy!
When it comes to your singing you already have a lot of habits. The question is: Are these habits moving you toward your singing dreams and goals or away from them? The first thing is to identify your singing vision and goals and then to honestly look at your habits to see if they're supporting your vision. If they are - great! If not, then this episode is full of great actionable steps to help you change all that! As always, the things that I share with you have a tremendous amount of research and science behind them. Listen and and put this into action. You deserve to reach your goals as a singer! Enjoy, Mike
I get very opinionated in this episode and I do spend a bit of time on my soap box. (-: Have you ever been classified as a: Bass, Alto, Mezzo, Baritone, Tenor, Soprano? Listen to this episode and discover how that could have been the worst thing anyone ever told you! Seriously... The truth is that very often these premature classifications are WRONG! And if you believe them you can be greatly limiting yourself. Listen now and enjoy! Mike
When I started singing I had NO vibrato! Nope...just a straight, (not very good) tone. I learned it! And now I have a great command over it as a tool for my singing expression. You can too! In this episode I give you some great exercises to develop vibrato if you don't have one or speed yours up if it's too weighty and slow! Enjoy!
In episode 72 I address one of the most important thing for singers ...and it's hardly ever talked about. As a matter of fact, I never hear anybody talk about it anymore! And here it is: Your vocal line. And you have 2 of them. The first one is the registers of the voice...they need to be "in line". The next, and this is the one I talk about today, is the vowels and sounds we sing with. Now before you think you've heard all this stuff, stop! You may not have...at least not the way I explain it. And, I give you plenty of examples and exercises to build a great vocal line fast. I really hope you enjoy this one and get a ton of value out of it! Enjoy!
Well, as they say in the old westerns, "Them's might strong words!" Yes, indeed they are. And because I think this is so important I'm not going to tell you what it is in the description because I want you to listen! So, what are you waiting for? This will help you sing better...I can guarantee it! Enjoy!! And if you'd like my Free Singing Accelerator Video Series featuring The Magic of Vowels video I spoke of, you can get that here: https://mikegoodrich.com/freevideos/https://mikegoodrich.com/freevideos/ And if you'd like my Free Ebook: “The 5 Biggest Mistakes Singers Make When Singing in Their Mix or Belting…and How You Can Avoid Them! In this episode of the Inner Singer Podcast I go over that greatly misunderstood and mysterious thing - Belting! Or, as I say in the title: How to Belt Correctly! And it may not be what you expect. Besides breathing and support, this is probably the most widely misunderstood and incorrectly sung (and taught) singing concept. Let's clear it up now. (-: This episode is a must listen for any singer, male or female, who is belting away...esp. if you're unsure what belting is and are not sure if you're doing it correctly. And if you'd like my Free Singing Accelerator Video Series featuring The Magic of Vowels video I spoke of, you can get that here: https://mikegoodrich.com/freevideos/ And if you'd like my Free Ebook,: "The 5 Biggest Mistakes Singers Make When Singing in Their Mix or Belting...and How You Can Avoid Them! In this new Singing Lessons Series we're going to start off with: The best little tool I've found over the years to Fix Singing Challenges! When you so this properly and consistently this tool will work absolute wonders for your voice. It can assist you with difficult passages in songs and it's a great way to vocalize. Try it! It's amazing...and so simple! Enjoy!
In this episode of the Inner Singer Podcast I discuss 2 very important concepts: 1. Meeting your voice where it is on any given day. This is VERY important as when we meet our voice where it is we can then take it where we want to go. When we try and "be where we were yesterday - when my voice was working!!", we put unnecessary pressure on our voice and ourself. 2. When you're either singing and vocalizing alone or having a singing lesson, what constitutes a "good lesson" or vocalization session"? If you're anything like I was you'll say - "Well singing well, of course!" It's that kind of thinking that can really hinder and sabotage your progress! So you may want to consider reframing that. Find out why and how! Enjoy!! And please subscribe and leave a rating and review if you found this podcast helpful. (-: Thanks!!
Everyone has a superpower - and this is mine. (at least one of them (-: What is the MTP Process? The very simple answer would be: Mindset - Technique - Performance But it's not that simple. When treated as 3 separate disciplines you are missing a tremendous opportunity. With the synergy of the 3 - there is magic! The process of teaching all 3 is a process that I've "unconsciously" developed over many years now. The fun of this is that I recently became "conscious" of this and now I can get even better at it! As I bring consciousness to the process I become more aware of the nuances and how much these 3 seemingly separate things integrate to create something beyond what most ever achieve. This has recently become very clear to me and I believe the story may help you find your Superpower - because you DEFINITELY have one! Listen and enjoy. (-:
Hey there! It's been a long time since I did a podcast and it's great to be back! This episode was inspired by the silly (and sometimes, ignorant) things well consciously and innocently tell ourselves. What we say and think IS important. When we fill our mind and our brain with beauty, possibility, joy and expansion - singing and life are more fun. When we fill our mind and our brain with "junk", we feel drained and hopeless...even if just a little bit. Since I want only the best for you - listen now. And do the impromptu exercise! Enjoy!
This is a subject you'll think you know all about. There's science behind it and a lot of people have spoken of it. So much so that I'm actually not going to tell you what it is. Why? Because this is a NEW approach. As a matter of fact, this approach will multiply your results in 3 powerful ways. Trust me, you probably have never approached (blank) in this way. And it will help you in every aspect of your singing! Curious? Good...go listen now! (-: Enjoy
Do you refuse to do things that you resist? I know I sure do sometimes. Refusing to feel the resistance keeps us in our "uncomfortable" comfort zone. When we feel the resistance, recognize it and move forward, we build the resilience to keep moving forward. Join me today for some inspiration and ideas on how to move through this. Listen and enjoy!
What do you focus on when you're vocalizing? Do you work a lot on things that don't go too well? Do you spend a lot of your time on your weaknesses? Listen to this episode and discover why that can be very counterproductive. There is a better way that will make singing much more fun and will accelerate your progress like crazy! Listen and enjoy.
In this episode I'm inspired by Dan Sullivan - a very successful entrepreneur coach for the past 40 plus years. He coaches the best of the best and he has some amazing thought processes. I take his concept of Unique Ability and tailor it to singing just for you. If you want to help yourself go to the next level, no matter where you are with your voice, then listen to this and try this. It's only 15 minutes so what are you waiting for? (-: Enjoy and implement!
When you think of "The Money Notes", what do you think of? The high notes - right? Me too...until I actually gave it some thought on the way to a speaking engagement the other night. Now, I know it's not ONLY the high notes. Think about it...what voices do you spend money on? Do they all have great high notes? Is something else possible? Listen to what I shared with a group of singers in Los Angeles (I changed my talk in the car on the way to the workshop after these thoughts came to me). It went great so I decided to create a podcast for you around the same ideas. This will positively change your mindset on what money notes are and how to get them! Listen now. (-:
In episode #60 of The Inner Singer podcast I show you how to reverse engineer a behavior to discover the belief that's creating it. It's very difficult to shift a non-supportive behavior until you discover the belief that's behind it. I also play with the difference between "being driven" and "being Inspired". Hint: Inspired is more fun! Note: I recorded this one in my car so the sound is not as wonderful as usual - but it's pretty good. (-: Enjoy!
In this episode I reveal my favorite Einstein quote and why it's my favorite AND how I use it all the time. I'll bet you've never even heard this one! This is really about you trusting YOU! There is a part of you that knows about your voice - once you strip away all the judgement, false beliefs and comparison. A part of you that is connected to all your answers. I don't want to say too much here as I don't want to give it all away. Have a listen. (-: Enjoy
In this episode I talk about our "singing story". We all have them and most of them are holding us back. The catch is that most of us do NOT know our own singing story, how it began or how to re-write it. We just keep telling it over and over again and getting the same results. I give a great analogy in this episode that cost me $1000 to learn... I share it with you for free! If you don't know your own singing story it's probably limiting your voice. This is said from 25 years of experience teaching and even more telling my own singing story! (which I share) Listen, enjoy and get clear on your story. Then you can re-write it if it's not supporting your Inner Singer.
In this episode I discuss the "mystery" in a song. All good songs have a mystery... Hint - it's in the lyric! It's amazing to me how few people discover the mystery in a lyric... Even if it's a song the singer wrote! I can't tell you how many times a singer/songwriter has said to me, "Wow, I didn't realize it meant that!", or, "I had no idea I was writing that!". If you want to go to the next level in your singing - do this! I know that's bold, however, I've seen this small step take singers to the next level for years! Listen to this episode, but more importantly - do this! The magic is in the mystery! Enjoy. (-:
In this episode I offer my take on the subject of how often to practice. There's a lot that goes into this and I've gotten this question often for the past 25 years! "How much should I practice?" There is no "pat" answer, however, in this episode I do my best to give you some very clear guidelines and principles to go by. Ultimately, you will determine the answer yourself when you have all the information. Here, I do my best to provide that for you. Enjoy!
In this episode I answer a great question from a listener that has many levels to it. What happens when our success at singing begins to make our friends or family act differently towards us? When those who should be excited and supportive are actually angry and bitter toward us. Or, simply begin to avoid or ignore us. Even if you've never experienced this I recommend you listen to this podcast as it goes way deeper than this question and will probably have something you can really relate to and take from this. The important thing is - what is causing this and how do we deal with it. The answer may surprise you and can be applied in many instances - even if this question doe not pertain to you. Enjoy. (-:
In this episode I share some of my process as I answer a listener's question regarding over committing with singing for approval and acceptance. I'm sure many of us can identify with the essence of this and we all want acceptance and approval, right? The cost for this can be great - especially if we're looking in the wrong place. I don't want to spoil it for you as you'll want to listen to this one. (-: Enjoy!
This is probably the most personal episode I've recorded and by far the longest! So personal that I questioned actually releasing it. If you have ever self sabotaged then I hope this will resonate with you. In this episode I offer you what I do and some tools to help shift out of the pattern of self sabotage. Also, some ideas on where this whole thing may come from - and why. I hope you get something out of this one. Thanks, and let me know... Listen now. (-:
It's not so much what you do as how you do it when it comes to singing. Warming up is no different. There are many exercises (some I'll share in this show) that will work well for warming up your voice, however, the most important thing I've found is not what you do but how you feel when you do it! In this episode I offer some ideas on how you can get into a very receptive and fun place where warming up is faster, easier and better! When I sing from this place it's always better and I get warmed up much faster! Listen and enjoy! Remember, it's not so much what you do, but how you do it and how you feel when you do it!
Do you ever give yourself time to sing - just to sing? Do you ever allow yourself the luxury of singing with absolutely no attachment to how you sound? I mean really sing for the pure fun and joy of making sound and expressing yourself. Have you ever been in a "world" where you are accepted just as you are? More importantly, that you accept yourself as you are and as you sound? Can you create that for yourself? Or are you always in the "real" world where you have to sound a certain way and meet criteria and conditions that are imposed on you or that you impose on yourself? Can you imagine what it's like to sing as a child with absolutely NO concern for how you sound? Where how you sound has NO meaning. I don't mean you're trying to feel like that, I mean have you actually experienced that? It's not easy when the stakes are high for your singing - is it? Is it even possible? I believe it is. (-: Listen and enjoy!
In this episode I admit what a whiner I was about my voice and a big mistake I made when I was learning how to sing. If you're making this mistake or feeling the same way I did, it will definitely slow your progress! I'm pretty "In your face" in this episode so I hope I don't offend anyone. (-: Time for some real honesty and self reflection. Always a good thing. This is an important episode for singers even if it "ruffles some feathers". Listen and enjoy!
In this episode I look at why learning something new - like a new way of singing a note or pronouncing a word or getting into your high notes - is challenging and sometimes takes time. This is a great episode for understanding how to shift something once we learn it incorrectly. Hint - It's not about unlearning! It's about how the brain learns and wants to hang on to what it's learned. (-: And what happens to the old way once we do learn something new! Listen and enjoy!
What key should this song be in for my voice? A question I've had a thousand times over the years. Do you feel bad if you can't sing a song in a particular key? What if you need to change it from the original singers key? The correct key FOR YOU will unlock your voice to be what IT wants to be. Not necessarily what YOU want it to be. Your voice will ALWAYS teach you if you listen. I loved this episode as it brought clarity to me regarding a topic I've been addressing for years. It took it much deeper than I'd ever thought about. Listen and enjoy!
Do you ever wonder why successful people don't take "failure" as truth? Many amazingly successful individuals were told by "experts" that they did not have what it takes to succeed at their chosen endeavors. What was the thing that made them continue on anyway? This has always fascinated me. I'm not so fascinated with those that had it all from the beginning - but with those "underdogs" who rose above and beyond what they were "expected" to do. In this episode I explore what this is and, of course, how it relates to singing. I know you'll find some of the examples pretty amazing and you may possibly relate to them...I did. Listen and enjoy!
This was huge for me and when I finally got it my voice changed almost over night. I know we think about this in life, however, it never occurred to me with my voice until one day on a walk as I was reflecting on why my singing was so difficult and what I was doing to help it be difficult. If your voice is not balanced in this way it will be very challenging to reach your potential as you'll always be run by your programming and what you think you should sound like. When we open to this kind of balance with our voices things that once seemed impossible to sing become possible and we often times find a whole new love for our voice and lots of new songs! Listen and enjoy!
Over the years I've worked with hundreds of singers who play an instrument while performing. If you do this, you know how challenging it can be to do both well. In this episode I share what my years of experience working with these folks has taught me and how I've been able to assist them in becoming freer with this process. This episode may not appear to be for everyone, however, even if you think you may want to play and sing at the same time some day, I think you'll get a lot out of this. Frankly, even if you never intend on playing and singing at the same time I feel this episode will still hold some nuggets you can use. Enjoy!
Artists and painters use colors to create other colors. They blend and mix and play until they get the "perfect" color. As singers, our colors and paints are our vowels. Rarely is a vowel "just a vowel". As you'll discover in this show, an "ah" is never just an "ah" and an "o" is never just an "o". Listen as I play examples of some great singers to demonstrate this point. When you really get this it will change your singing forever. Things that seemed impossible will be easy and words that were difficult to sing will be fun. Listen and enjoy!
There is no big break anyone can give you that will raise you higher or make you better then the tiny little things you do every day in service to yourself. Don't look outside yourself for your voice or career. Do the things necessary to create your career and voice you love. When you do the little things in all 3 areas (Inner Game, Performance and Singing Technique) you take the power back. Don't give anyone the power over your voice or career. In this episode I explain why and offer some ideas and steps that will assist you. Enjoy!
In this episode I talk about how to manage the 3 components of the Singing Trifecta - The Inner Game, Performance and Vocal Technique. If you've ever had a challenge "thinking" about all 3 at the same time - It's okay...you can't. (-: There is another way and I talk about it in this show. All 3 of these components really do support each other and the synergy of the creates the magic! Listen and enjoy (-:
In this episode I play with the idea of the Singing Trifecta. That is the Inner Game, Authentic Performance and Singing Technique. Guess which one I put first. Can you guess which one I put last? You may be surprised. (-: All 3 of these are very important, however, one is the cement that holds the others together. One without the other 2 is not enough. When you have all 3, you have "magic". The synergy of the 3 is compelling for an audience and a great joy for the singer. You deserve all 3! Listen and enjoy!
It's great to have influences that inspire us as long as we ultimately come into our own, with our own unique voice. Don't be a “cookie-cutter” sound, or imitate a formula. Sing with your voice. Discover YOUR voice. You have a wonderful unique voice – Find it…Use it. When listening to our favorite singer, too many of us ask, ‘What are they doing', perhaps we should instead be asking, ‘What are they feeling?'. I hope this episode resonates with you. Enjoy!
In this episode I talk about the 3 stages of performing while learning a song or show. This concept will really assist you with singing and performing - at any level. The important thing is to know what stage you're in at any time and BE THERE! This makes it fun and rewarding rather than disappointing and no fun. (-: It's amazing how simply acknowledging what stage you're in with a particular song or show can instantly affect your Inner Singer in a very positive way! Listen to this episode and it will really make sense. Enjoy!
