POPULARITY
Are you tired of feeling like your podcast blends in with the crowd? On this episode of Podcast Talent Coach, I'm diving deep into the one thing that will truly set your show apart. We talk about overcoming your speaking fear so you can step into your unique perspective and authentic story. EMBRACE YOUR PERSPECTIVE You've got something to say. You've walked through fire, learned the lessons, and earned your perspective. Unfortunately, your communication of that message has little to do with your content and more to do with your presence. If your message is muddled or your story is missing, your authority won't land with your ideal client. Your influence has less to do with your platform and more to do with your presence. To become someone worth listening to, you need to deliver more than great content. You need to share yourself. That can come along with some fear. Magnetic leaders don't just share what they do, they share who they are. They tell the story that makes others believe. I learned this the hard way by trial and error when I started in radio 35 years ago. My program director asked me when I was going to start being myself. It took a lot of hours on the air to discover what makes me different. It's not what I'm saying. It's whom I'm being. I had to overcome my fear and step into myself. It starts with one thing: Your Origin Story. ORIGIN STORY MASTERCLASS If you're ready to strategically use podcasting, video, keynotes, and interviews to grow your influence and become someone worth listening to, join me for my Origin Story Masterclass. Get details at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop. This one-hour masterclass will help align your influence with your story and the right audiences for maximum impact. Write your story and overcome your fear. This is for you if you're a entrepreneur, creator, or leader with a message, but your story feels scattered. You need to join us if you want to speak, teach, or lead — but you're unsure how to position yourself. Be part of this masterclass if you're ready to defeat your fear to stand out as a trusted andrespected voice. Get registered for the Origin Story Masterclass online at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop. HOW YOU SAY IT Your origin story is critical, because it is the foundation of whom you're being. Once you know your origin story and principles, you can overcome your fear and find the confidence to lean into that persona. Most communication is nonverbal. Not what you say, but how you say it. There was a study done by Dr. Albert Mehrabian. Many refer to the study out of context by saying 7% of communication comes from the words you say. 38% of communication is your tone of voice. And 55% is your body language. Dr. Mehrabian didn't exactly say that. But, it was close. He did talk about those numbers and he did say a majority of communication is nonverbal. Even if the numbers are off a bit, the principle is still true. It's not what you say that is the most important. Powerful communication comes from whom you're being while you say it. Unfortunately, fear often holds that back. Lean into your personality. Your communication will be so much more powerful allowing you to attract raving fans. RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH STORY Too many podcasters focus only on delivering information, but what really creates influence and profitable relationships with your audience is who you are while delivering your message. On this episode, I share why your communication style and presence are more powerful than the content alone and how you can step fully into your own spotlight without fear. Let's talk about what separates the most influential voices in any niche. Think Oprah, Howard Stern, or Gary Vee. It's not just their expertise; it's their story and how they deliver it with authenticity. Discover how adding your own perspective and sharing pieces of your origin story each week can magnetize listeners. It can also create true fans, and make your podcast stand out in the sea of sameness. I'll also explain the four core elements every podcaster must master. These include attention-grabbing artwork, a compelling show name, a laser-focused description, and captivating episode titles that hook your ideal listener. Know your audience and tailor the message for them.In high-stakes communication, every word counts. For Jen Psaki, that means knowing who she's talking to — so she knows just what to say.As the former White House Press Secretary and current host of Inside with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, Psaki has discovered that communication isn't about “saying the most words or saying them the loudest,” but about knowing your audience well enough to tailor the message just for them. “You need to think about how you're going to get your audience to listen to you,” she says. “The goal of communicating is to crack the door open so somebody wants to hear more.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Psaki and host Matt Abrahams explore her approach to strategic communication: identifying your audience and using what you know to engage with them and get them to engage with you.Episode Reference Links:Jen Psaki Jen's Book: Say MoreEp.22 Under Pressure How to Communicate Clearly and Timely During Crisis Website / YouTube Ep.155 Can We Be Candid? I decided to contact Inês because I'd been listening to her podcast, Your voice matters, for a while. I was even more excited to discover that the first episodes were in Portuguese, because it means I have some more interesting content to listen to that will help me improve my Portuguese and learn about other voice-related topics! But originally, our interview wasn't going to be about that. I wanted to talk about voice coaching. We covered topics such as getting used to hearing your own voice and practising how you want to sound before you actually speak in public. Also, how we can use our voice to communicate our personality, even if we're feeling nervous about the language. We can adopt vocal habits in another language that aren't ours and it's liberating when we learn to move past this.We also discuss why Inês decided to start a podcast, why she switched the language after the first two seasons, how she did it, what the process was like for her, and what advice she would give to people who are thinking about creating content in another language.I also love one of the things that Inês said at the beginning when we were talking about her career journey. My guest today is Joana Lisboa from Unleash your Vocal Power. We met on LinkedIn last year when I think I commented on one of Joana's voice-related posts. Then, after chatting some more, I thought she would be a great guest for the podcast. For the past 12 years, Joana's life mission has been to help others find their authentic voice. The process of self-discovery she suggests to her clients has been proven by her before starting her career as a Vocal Coach. She went from being a shy girl, barely heard, to someone who believes in applying her vocal power authentically, no matter the circumstances. She works with entrepreneurs and companies and also gives singing lessons. Anything related to voice and body captures her attention: communication, singing, acting, cinema, dancing. We talked about:

Over the past few weeks, I have been on a teaching tour in the USA, where I have been working predominantly with classical singers and teachers who want to learn more about contemporary commercial music styles. The feedback was overwhelming, and many of the singers expressed they had a deep desire to sing this music, but there was limited opportunity in higher education. Many of the teachers were surprised to learn that many of our philosophies and approaches aligned, but it is just that our teaching is geared towards creating a different aesthetic. I was extremely grateful and humbled by all the positive feedback. I believe it is time for higher education to embrace this music and there needs to be a hierarchical change for this to happen. My trip has inspired to replay segments of a former interview with Matt Edwards and Jacqulyn Zito-Edwards, this week on A Voice and Beyond.Matt and Jacqulyn have been working together on some ongoing research into the roots of the academic bias against popular music. You can go back and listen to episodes #99 and #101 for a full recap.Jacqulyn is an adjunct assistant professor of voice for the musical theatre program at Shenandoah Conservatory and serves on faculty at the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute. Matt has been working at Shenandoah University since 2010 as an Associate Professor, within the Voice and Musical Theatre departments. He is also the Coordinator of Musical Theatre Voice and Artistic Director of CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute. In this fascinating episode, Matt and Jacqulyn delve deeply into the history of the classism and racism that has perpetuated the status quo in the training of CCM singers. Connor Beaton is a men's life coach, founder of ManTalks, and an author focusing on men's wellness and personal growth. He integrates Jungian psychology and somatic therapy into his coaching and speaking engagements In this episode of the Dad Edge podcast, host Larry Hagner and guest Connor Beaton talk about the power of voice in conveying emotions and creating a comfortable environment for effective communication. They discuss how slowing down speech and being mindful of tone can reduce anxiety and improve relationships. Connor Beaton shares his expertise in voice training and music, explaining how a person's voice can reflect their internal state. He suggests that speaking quickly or in a high-pitched tone can be indicative of anxiety or discomfort. By intentionally slowing down speech, individuals can bring attention and presence to their delivery, thereby potentially reducing anxiety and creating a more calm external perception. The conversation also extends to the impact of voice in parenting and marriage. Connor Beaton emphasize how their calm demeanor and voice can influence the behavior and emotions of their children and partners. They note that when they are calm, their children and partners also tend to be calm. Lisa is dedicated to helping her clients, many of whom identify as transgender or gender nonbinary, through the journey of finding their true voices. She's also a former opera singer. She joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer to talk about how our voice is part of our identity.

Our voice is the most intimate part of human expression. It is formed over decades of parenting, socialization, and trauma. Our physical alignment and muscle tension create the speaking pattern that we function from day to day. If you want to be a transformational actor, then you need extensive and disciplined work to unlock the way you speak. This week Charlie talks to Midori Nakamura, a designated Linklater teacher who runs the Voice & Speech program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio. Welcome to season 2, episode 49 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week I interview three incredible young entrepreneurs from New Jersey. All are doing something they love and are continuing to share their artistic talents with the world. My first guest is Jack Marra. Jack is 16 years old and an incredible artist. He creates fan art, has many requests for commissioned work from his close to 6,000 Instagram followers, and makes beautiful artistic keychains. Jack shares about how his confidence increased as others took notice of his artwork at a younger age. Sharing fan art from the show Stranger Things truly helped Jack see an increase in followers. From there more opportunities were created. Jack goes on to share the importance of creating characters and that people really enjoy following character stories even if they have never heard of them before. You can see some of Jack's work by following @inkycat186 or purchase artwork at his Etsy shop - @iinkycatz.My next guest is Sienna Grinwald-Alves. Sienna is a junior in college and is attaining her bachelor's degree in music education. She teaches vocal and beginner piano lessons and is also a budding opera singer. She was inspired by her grandfather who was an aspiring opera singer himself. When she was a junior in performing arts high school with a focus on vocal training, Sienna was asked to lead the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation's AOK Performance Group. During that time parent's of AOK Performance Group students asked Sienna if she could provide individual vocal lessons. From there she started her performing arts studio called Operatunity Performing Arts Center. Sienna's students have ranged from ages 6 to 81 years old. You can find out more on Instagram @operatunity.pac.Lastly, I interview Hudson Galik. Hudson creates amazing woodworking pieces that he sells. He created an amazing shaker solid wood table for his home and from there realized how much he felt connected to this craft. He named his business Woodism, which is a combination of the word wood from woodworking and autism. Hudson is on the autism spectrum and sees this artistic outlet as a way to express himself and increase his confidence. You can follow him on Instagram @woodismusa or by going to his website - AboutWoodism.com.All my guests this week answer my last question which is, what advice would you give to someone who is young and has a talent that they want to share with the world? Take a listen to hear their important words of encouragement. It is so important to support small business when making purchases throughout the year. It takes great courage at a young age to put your work out in the public eye. Help support these young entrepreneur's businesses. Next week, I interview Gail Siggelakis. Grace Ng Ee Wern is a Clinical Hypnotherapist, a Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy energy healing practitioner and Level 3 certified Somatic Voicework teacher, who has a studio practice based in Singapore. It is there she has developed a unique and distinct approach to voice teaching and learning, drawing upon multi-disciplinary wellness practices to enhance the mental, emotional and physical well-being of her students. In this episode, Grace explains that her methodology actively incorporates a mind-body connection so that the voice is understood in the context of the holistic wellness of the person. Grace firmly believes that you cannot separate the mind, body and emotions from the voice and vocal issues are a result of disharmonies occurring within the student. She tells us that as teachers we need to honour the student wherever they are at in that moment in time and in order to deal with these voice issues we must resolve any underlying problems. Grace explains the major benefits to applying many non-traditional modalities in the voice studio. She describes the benefits of using hypnotherapy in assisting with and alleviating performance anxiety. Proudly, Grace is the only voice teacher and the only Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner using this modality with singers. She has discovered that Jin Shin Jyutsu, which is an energy healing modality, can harmonise physical conditions that not only allows freedom of expression and authenticity but helps students overcome other issues relating to pitch, breathing, alignment, registers and range building. Grace demonstrates how these modalities can be applied simply and effectively with our students with amazing results.
