Constant Listener! A bit of housekeeping. You will notice this episode has again dropped on a Monday. Moving forward, Mondays seem like they are going to be our best drop days. Any minisodes will drop on Saturdays, as in "Saturday Shorts." I like "clever" alliteration I guess.  On to the show notes. This week our spooky cinema analysis is Deliverance, starring Burt Reynolds, John Voight, Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty. It was directed by John Boorman. It may seem like a counter-intuitive selection for the spooky season but have a listen and see if we can convince you that is a proper Halloween selection. Whether we achieve success on that front or not, it is hoped that we at least convince you that this strangely thoughtful, and undeniably controversial movie (then and now) from waaaaaaay back in 1972 is worthy of you consideration in any season. Enjoy!

This week Max and Jason watched Prey, the latest installment in the Predator franchise (Predator-Verse?). There have been several sequels over the 35 years since Arnold first uttered his classic line, "If it bleeds, we can kill it." Many of the sequels have been guilty of being derivative (Predators), too tongue in cheek (think director Shane Black's outing), or simply terrible (both Aliens vs Predator films).  Where does Prey land in the quality distribution curve of the Predator-Verse films? Have a listen and find out what we think.

In this episode we discuss a lot of production notes, and we dive deep into why we think this is really one of the best Sci-Fi action films of the 80s. It isn't just for the set pieces. The acting actually matches the action in quality. We talk about all this and more. So, lets get in the choppa and travel back to the 1980s and discuss Predator.  Enjoy,  M&J

We continue our examination of Masters of the Universe: Revelation. In this episode we discuss MOUR's episode 1 and 2, "The Power of Grayskull," and "The Poisoned Chalice." If you are a sci-fi nerd, you have probably heard that the show is somehow controversial. We begin to examine some of those complaints and compare them to the show itself. Is the show somehow too woke? Not woke enough? Is it really, really real Masters of the Universe storytelling? Give our show a listen to see what we think. I think you will find that "WE HAVE THE POWEEEEER!!!!!!" And you might too if you give us a listen.

On this week's episode of M&JWAM, we actually watch a Netflix show, Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Directed and written by Kevin Smith, this show takes us back to Eternia, and unlike the Dolph Lundgren Masters film, we actually get to stay there.  This episode marks part one of our review and discussion of this series. We discuss why this show got made, and our overall reaction to it. Is the show good? Is it a good interpretation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? Should you watch it? We answer those questions in this episode and maybe a few more. In our next few podcasts we will review the episodes themselves. As always let us know what you think by contacting us at at Lordmovies39 on gmail. Enjoy the show.

Audience! Jason had debilitating technical issues and we were unable to begin, or rather, finish beginning our conversation about Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelations. This required some fast thinking on the part of the more serious, thoughtful host Max to get an episode out on Tuesday. And so, this week we have a guest who disagrees with us about Gunpowder Milkshake.  Enjoy the show! Maybe you agree with the guest host, maybe you don't, but you can find the Amazing Anya at the following place: https://www.instagram.com/anz_solo/

This week we tackle Netflix's action comedy Gunpowder Milkshake, starring Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino, Chloe Coleman, Micheal Smiley and Paul Giamatti. It will be hard not to notice that this film is packed with serious talent, and all of which are great in the shoot-em-up genre.  Gunpowder Milkshake is a blood soaked neon-noir, fable-fantasy-cartoon version of a gun-fu noir. Is it successful? Have a listen and find out what we think about this film.

Hey listeners, Jason and I are taking the week off as we adjust our scheduling to account for a less pandemic restricted world. That means no Gunpowder Milkshake this week. Look for that episode next week. And perhaps beginning next week, or the following week we will be reviewing Kevin Smith's brand spanking new #HeMan content, Masters of the Universe: Revelations. So be on the look out for that. Until then, enjoy this episode where we ask a lot of questions about Dolph Lundgren's trek through Eternia.

Max and Jason Watch a Movie: The Outlaw Josey Wales

Hoooo boy. On this week's episode we tackle the sometimes entertaining, often problematic western movie classic, The Outlaw Josey Wales.  What we did not when picked this, and we don't think any of the filmmakers knew when they made it was the following. This curious movie was based on a book by a former member of the KKK, a man who wrote speeches for George McGovern, and was an ardent segregationist. The speeches and Klan activity he performed under the name Asa Carter. He called himself Forrest Carter, and took on the persona of a Cherokee when he penned his books about Josey Wales and later his false autobiography, The Education of Little Tree- a book that was selected to be featured in Oprah Winfrey's Book Club. It is unclear how much Eastwood and his writers knew about this sad history, but for us the movie's origin in Forrest Carter's racist pseudo-history was never far from our mind. We spend a lot of time talking about the strange popularity of Lost Cause Narrative in American cinema as we wonder at this strange film.
