Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ In this final review and reaction, Tara and Andrew brace themselves for complete chaos as Daenerys Targaryen goes full Dark Phoenix, completely reshaping the landscape of Westeros forever. We unpack the massive emotional scale and stellar performances of this iconic ensemble cast, featuring Emilia Clarke (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Me Before You) delivering absolute terrifying intensity as the spiraling Mad Queen Daenerys, Kit Harington (Eternals, Pompeii) as the deeply conflicted true heir Jon Snow, and Peter Dinklage (Cyrano, Avengers: Infinity War) giving a masterful, heart-wrenching performance as Tyrion Lannister. We also react to the monumental final arcs for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as the cornered Queen Cersei, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, and Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth. Our hosts react to every jaw-dropping highlight, brutal execution, and bittersweet farewell this massive two-part finale delivers. We break down the absolute dread of Varys being sentenced to dragon fire by a ruthlessly unhinged Daenerys, the jaw-dropping scale of the attack on King's Landing, and the pure horror of the dragon completely torching innocent civilians long after the city bells rang to surrender. We unpack the bloody, pride-fueled duel between Jaime Lannister and Euron Greyjoy, the hyper-violent poetry of the long-awaited Cleganebowl where the Hound and the Mountain fall together into the flames, and Cersei and Jaime's tragic "Romeo and Juliet" style demise beneath the rubble of the crumbling Red Keep. Finally, we break down the monumental throne room confrontation where Jon Snow delivers a shocking, devastating stab to his queen, Drogon completely melting down the Iron Throne before flying away with his mother, and the highly chaotic Small Council assembly where Tyrion hilariously fields a democratic vote before crowning Bran the Broken as King. We evaluate the incredible cinematic tracking shots, the massive storytelling logic leaps, and the pure emotional weight of the Starks' split endings—including Sansa becoming Queen of the North, Arya exploring uncharted maps, and Jon Snow finally giving Ghost a proper, long-overdue embrace before leading the wildlings back beyond the Wall! When you think of some small town in Minnesota, do you think of action, intrigue, explosive excitement? No? Me neither. I think of ice augers, hot dish and grumpy old men, not automatic weapons, rocket launchers and C4 explosives. This week's movie, “Normal”, might just blow your mind about small town Minnesota. Bob Odenkirk stars as Sheriff Ulysses Richardson who is serving as the temporary sheriff in the small town of Normal, Minnesota. At first it's what he expects. Overly friendly people, potlucks and snow. Along the way, he sees some suspicious things that make his curiosity alarm bells go off such as the police armory with a weapons stockpile you could invade a small country with. Then a bank robbery lights the fuse on the town having to reveal its dark secret to the new sheriff and soon it's adios Minnesota nice, hello Minnesota mayhem. Is it worth checking this out at the theater? Watch this episode of Movies Merica to find out! “Normal” also stars Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Lena Headey, Henry Winkler, Reena Jolly, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, Jess McLeod and David Lawrence Brown. Mindframes Show Notes Normal (2026) Directed by: Ben Wheatley Written by: Derek Kolstad Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Lena Headey, Henry Winkler IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31195136/ Episode Summary In this episode of Mindframes, Michael and Dave break down Normal (2026), a genre-blending action thriller from Ben Wheatley starring Bob Odenkirk as a temporary small-town sheriff uncovering a hidden criminal system beneath a seemingly quiet Minnesota town. The discussion explores the film's strengths—particularly its sharp, inventive action sequences—while wrestling with its weaker character development and underdeveloped thematic ambitions. Along the way, the hosts compare Normal to films like No Country for Old Men, Fargo, and Hot Fuzz, asking whether the film earns its ideas about morality, violence, and the illusion of "normality." Thematic Discussion Normal presents the idea that "normality" is not peace or order, but a fragile illusion maintained by hidden systems of violence and compromise. The film suggests that communities—and individuals—often accept morally compromised structures in exchange for stability, even when those systems are corrupt. However, while the idea is compelling, the film struggles to fully develop or emotionally ground this thesis, leaving it more implied than earned. ⏱️ Timestamps Time Segment 00:00 Intro & setup 00:25 Film overview + premise 02:14 Ben Wheatley career discussion 05:39 Derek Kolstad influence & action style 08:05 Cast discussion (Odenkirk, Headey, Winkler) 11:20 Odenkirk as "underestimated man" archetype 13:30 Character depth debate (Michael vs Dave) 16:30 "Should this have been a miniseries?" 18:45 Action vs drama effectiveness 20:00 Michael's review (★★★☆☆) 24:30 Dave's review (★★★☆☆) 29:30 Comparisons: No Country, Fargo, Hot Fuzz 36:30 ⚠️ Spoiler section begins 36:40 Reveal: the town's Yakuza deal 38:30 Debate: Is the central mystery… boring? 40:25 Moral ambiguity discussion 46:30 Thematic breakdown: what is "normal"? 50:45 Civil War comparison (hidden violence) 54:00 Final interpretation debate 58:00 Closing thoughts
Bob Odenkirk has pivoted from sketch comedy to dramatic acting and, most recently, to late-middle-aged action star. In the new film Normal, he plays a small-town sheriff who finds out his small town isn't so normal after all, which will of course require some sexagenarian butt-kicking. The cast includes Henry Winkler and Lena Headey, and was written by Derek Kolstad, the mind behind the John Wick franchise. Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy fly solo on most of the movies this week, but they still have nine titles to talk about. Lena Headey discovers she may have created the bullet that killed her son (Ballistic). A strange friendship develops between two disparate young men when one tries to maybe stop the other from committing a school shooting (Our Hero, Balthazar). Barbie Ferreira plays a music critic who gets involved with the band she is covering (Mile End Kicks). The latest comedy from Peter Farrelly has Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser as the creators of a very unusual condom (Balls Up). Keanu Reeves is a Hollywood star trying to prevent an embarrassing video from getting out (Outcome). There's a documentary about the creator of Saturday Night Live (Lorne). Bob Odenkirk is in action mode again taking on a whole town in the latest from Ben Wheatley (Normal). Steven Soderbergh's latest has Ian McKellen as an artist who hires a forger to finish his paintings (The Christophers). Finally, the director of Evil Dead Rise gets his name above the familiar title of his even more familiar horror film. Director and Executive Producer Stephen Surjik joins us to break down the making of Netflix's new Western series The Abandons—a gloriously bloody, female-led frontier drama already being compared to Yellowstone. Set in the lawless 1850s Washington Territory, The Abandons follows a brutal land feud between two formidable matriarchs, played by Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey. Stephen walks us through what it takes to make a Western feel dangerous again—from shooting in the Badlands and mountains of Alberta to navigating extreme weather, elevation, horses, and real wildlife on set.We dive deep into The Abandons, Stephen's long-standing collaboration with Netflix (The Umbrella Academy, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Witcher), and his return to working with Gillian Anderson two decades after The X-Files. Stephen also shares how close collaboration with First Nations communities and cultural advisors shaped the show's authenticity—on screen and behind the scenes. If you're interested in large-scale production, historical world-building, or directing performances where power, land, and survival collide, this is a must-listen.

Min 4: LOS ABANDONADOS.
“I'm here, just taking a stroll, stretching my legs. These, uh, 300 men are my personal bodyguard.” We watched “300,” directed by Zack Snyder, and we need to hit the gym. A lot has been said of Snyder's hyperfixation on the male form, and we're here to add to that conversation. While this movie may be 117 minutes of fit men strutting around in leather briefs, it's also a pretty fun adaptation of the 1998 graphic novel by Frank Miller— author of Sin City. Gerard Butler and Lena Headey play a fierce power couple, King and Queen of Sparta, Leonidas and Gorgo. Gerry is giving us manic Brian Blessed in “Flash Gordon” realness, and Lena is serving proto-Cersei Lannister, and she's really holding her own as one of the only female speaking roles in the male-dominated movie. We also get some body beautiful from David Wenham, Michael Fassbender, and Rodrigo Santoro as the diva herself— Xerxes, the mad god-king of Persia with permanent makeup and one too many body piercings. We had our reading glasses on the entire time on patrol for any slip-ups in those banana hammocks, but as far as we could tell, there were no wardrobe malfunctions to speak of. Oh well. www.patreon.com/moviesthatmadeusgay Facebook/Instagram: @moviesthatmadeusgay Bluesky: @MTMUGPod.bsky.social Scott Youngbauer: Twitter @oscarscott / Instagram @scottyoungballer Peter Lozano: Twitter/Instagram @peterlasagna
This week on Comics and Chronic we're marking our milestone 300th episode with Zack Snyder's 300 based off the cult classic graphic novel by Frank Miller. In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. Though certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against their common enemy. We made it to episode 300 despite Cody's sabotage attempts at a comedy festival & Anthony's desire to change our name. But first Jake learns how to correctly pronounce Bon Iver. This movie is stacked with actors such as Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, Dominic West, Michael Fassbender, & others. Is this movies ableist? This is a dude's DUDE movie. Men killing, sweaty CGI and, boobies, murder, blood, wolves, cripples everything a man needs to see to feel like a man. Also gave rise to one of cinema's most famous lines: “THIS IS SPARTA!” This is easily o e of or if not Zack Snyder's best movie. Some great fight scenes and cinematography even with the CGI. It's also almost page for page the comic 300. Could the Hot Boys have held the hot gates? Where does 300 rank on Zack Snyder's movies with fans? Anthony's childhood is similar to that of a boy's childhood in 300? Did this movie destroy what the ideal male body should look like? How does this movie age now that we're no longer hormonal teenage boys? Tune in today for our milestone 300th episode!New episodes every THURSDAYFollow us on social media! Armour, check. Gun, check. Helmet, check. Scowl, check. This gritty, ultra-violent, slow-mo-filled action flick where Karl Urban's chin does most of the acting, is a masterpiece. Ben and Rob feel “DREDD”, the 2013 Pete Travis directed adaptation of 2000AD's megastar character Judge Dredd, starring Karl Urban, Lena Headey and Olivia Thirlby. Written by Alex Garland (director of ‘Ex Machina', ‘Civil War', ‘Warfare'), ‘DREDD' struggled to make back its budget, despite good reviews and praise for its accuracy to the source material. But why did ‘DREDD' flop so hard at the box office? Was it the studio's awful need for this to be ‘DREDD 3D'? The general public not knowing who the hell Judge Dredd is? Or was it due to a certain secret director having to save the project from Pete Travis, the credited leader of the adaptation?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much MUCH more!PLUS! This week, we're stirring the pot with Gossip (2000)—a deliciously chaotic college thriller where one little rumor blows up way bigger than anyone expected. It's got hot young stars (hello, James Marsden, Lena Headey, Kate Hudson), questionable ethics, and enough plot twists to make your head spin. We're breaking down all the wild turns, the early-2000s fashion choices, and the film's surprisingly sharp take on manipulation and media. Is it a cautionary tale? A cult classic in disguise? Or just an excuse to watch beautiful people make terrible decisions? Let's find out.Grab your lattes and your lie detectors—it's gossip time.Intro/Outro Music: "Phantom Fun" by Jonathan Boyle----Show E-Mail: cultcinemacircle@gmail.com----Follow Cult Cinema Circle on Instagram, Bluesky, and Letterboxd Hosted on Acast. On this Thursday bonus episode we are going to play the interview from episode 451 from November 2023 with actor turned writer director Lena Heady who was on the show to talk about writing and directing her first feature. I thought Lena was a good match for Julia because they are both established recognizable actors who we had on to talk about jumping into directing after starring in some of the biggest movies/shows. After that we play another round of You're the expert, enjoy! Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! This February we're celebrating “Dreddruary,” where we cover movies based on the British comic book character, Judge Dredd! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Karl Urban's 2012 dark dystopian action massacre, Dredd!Impressive use of a low budget! A near-future that seems (unfortunately) believable! Quick and effective world-building! Really cool helmets! A very dangerous atrium! A simple, contained story inspired by the action classic, The Raid! A surprisingly stripped-down comic book movie, especially when compared with modern examples! Absolutely brutal slow motion violence! Absurdly large buildings! A solid cast that includes Olivia Thirlby, Wood Harris, Harry Potter's Domhnall Gleeson with blue cyber eyes, an uncomfortably cruel Lena Headey, and the lower half of Karl Urban's face doing some of the greatest frown-acting you've ever seen! A movie based on a British comic book about America, starring European people doing American accents, which may also secretly be the first movie directed by Civil War's Alex Garland! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Wolf of Snow Hollow, the new Valentine's Day-themed slasher, Heart Eyes, and the genre-bending thriller Companion! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Twitter, Bluesky, or Letterboxd @actionharris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. What better way to celebrate our 300th episode than by reviewing Zack Snyder's 300. We're talking Gerard Butler's beard, Lena Headey's unnecessarily exploitative side plot, Michael Fassbender's iconic queer performance, all the racism and ableism, as well as the 'Age of Empires' visuals that totally hold up. However, this episode has a twist... Neither Sandro nor Zach actually watched the movie this week... But I'm sure that won't affect the review at all!Join our Patreon for our bonus episodes! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback?
