On this week's thrilling episode, the gang bids a bittersweet farewell to the spookiest season of the year—yes, Spooktober is coming to a close. But hold on to your hats, folks, because this episode might have more tricks than treats! Our intrepid crew takes us deep into the realm of science fiction as they discuss the 2007 horror film The Invasion. Now, this motion picture marks the fourth cinematic adaptation of the 1955 novel “The Body Snatchers,” and stars none other than Nicole Kidman, alongside a pre-007 Daniel Craig, as they battle a world teeming with—you guessed it—body-snatching aliens! Joining the crew for this out-of-this-world discussion is Sammy from the GGTMC, and let me tell you, folks, things get wild fast. The conversation spirals into a chaotic frenzy—one so bizarre, it's been described as, and I quote, ‘like someone farting into your can of oatmeal.' Now, if that doesn't paint a picture, I don't know what will! So, dim the lights and prepare yourself for this light-hearted yet outlandish dive into The Invasion. It's all happening on the Not A Bomb Podcast—where absurdity reigns supreme, and the scares? Well, they're a little less than terrifying. Stay tuned! What a deal, what a day! Furiosa review coming in hot! Yes Dementus has struck a chord with me. We also learned about the next Knives Out movie, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are reuniting, and Tom Bombadil is finally getting his shot at live action. Meanwhile Sony announces a State of Play last minute, Neil Druckmann gets taken out of context, and Activision wins its lawsuit against cheaters. Cheaters never prosper. Plus thoughts on two major lawsuits affecting Hollywood and Video Games.
We finally received an update on the second of the two WandaVision spinoffs in development, with the news that Marvel has enlisted Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas as showrunner for the untitled Vision series. Details remain sparse, but we know that Paul Bettany will reprise his role as the albino synthezoid and Marvel Studios is eyeing a 2026 Disney+ release. The 2024 summer movie season continues to struggle as newcomers Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Garfield Movie, essentially tied for the number one spot for the holiday weekend, each debuting at a muted $31 million; the worst Memorial Day weekend at the box office in almost 30 years. Furiosa particularly came in lower than estimates as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and receiving the same B+ Cinemascore. Advance tickets for Deadpool & Wolverine became available last Monday, resulting in an estimated 200,000 tickets sold for roughly $9 million and enough to break the record for first-day, R-rated ticket sales. Subsequently, at still two months out, it leads 2024 in all presales with all signs pointing to it being the year's first $100 million plus opening weekend.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Wingard, director of the last two MonsterVerse films, will not return for the third installment due to timing issues. The split is amicable, with a future return possible. Netflix revealed a first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Hemsworth replaces Henry Cavill for the final two seasons, with season 4's release date currently to be determined. Glen Powell revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he recently turned down major roles, including the upcoming Jurassic World film and a reboot of The Bourne Identity. Damon Lindelof, one of the co-creators of Lost and The Watchmen is officially behind the creative team for the upcoming Green Lantern series for DC Studios. Chris Mundy, the showrunner behind Netflix's crime series Ozark, as well as long-time DC comic author Tom King round out the creative team. Netflix released the first trailer for Beverly Hills: Axel F, featuring Eddie Murphy returning as Axel Foley. The new film, following the original 1984 release and its sequels, will stream starting July 3. Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel to Showtime's Dexter announced casting of Patrick Gibson playing young Dexter, Molly Brown; his sister Debra, and Christian Slater portraying their adoptive father. The premiere date is yet to be announced. Warner Brothers dropped a new trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice that features a more extended look at the cast. The film debuts in theaters on September 6. Rian Johnson announces his next Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, releasing on Netflix next year with Daniel Craig reprising his role and lots of other big Hollywood names being added to the cast daily, including Fleabag's Andrew Scott. Rupert Friend, star of Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, will join Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey in Gareth Edwards' new Jurassic film for Universal. Jeffery Wright joins The Last of Us season 2 as Isaac, reprising his role from the video game.

If you achieve success by not being your authentic self, is it still success? American Fiction (2023) strives to answer this question with the excellent Jeffery Wright leading the charge, supported by a strong cast. An earlier film starring LaKeith Stanfield, Sorry To Bother You (2018), posed a similar query. Does either film reach a definite conclusion? Listen to find out. Ethan and Mike wrap up Oscar season with American Fiction! Jeffery Wright stars in a movie where he can't get a book sold because the books are just not black enough. So in a drunken rage, he starts writing a book that goes against everything he believes in while using a fake name. The book sells like crazy and hilarity ensues! A strange Oscar movie choice, but hey it calls out previous Oscar winner Green Book so maybe the nomination is another attempt to say the Oscars are not that white after all.Remember to join our Discord for movie nights and further podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-content

Mike and Kenny discuss and spot faith reflected in the biopic about civil rights leader Bayard Rustin. Starring Best Actor nominee Colman Domingo, Rustin, directed by George C. Wolfe and co-staring Chris Rock, GlynnTurman, and fellow 2024 Academy Award acting nominees Jeffery Wright and Da 'Vine Joy Randolph, tells the story of Bayard Rustin, the organizer and driving force behind the 1963 March on Washington. The March is best known for Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech and is considered not only one of the seminal moments in the Civil Rights movement, but in modern American history. Faith Notes: The nature of servant leadership, that leaders are to serve and not be served as demonstrated by Jesus' life and ministry, and His washing the feet of the disciples. As seen in the film and lives of Bayard Rustin, MLK, and Medgar Evers, the need of and call to prophetic speech and action and the accompanying risks, suffering and sacrifice. God using those who are imperfect to accomplish God's righteousness. The temptation to allow ego and pride to damage or sabatage God's calling and mission. The seeds or racism that are blooming again and that they are incompatible with the teaching and life example of Jesus.
This week, we watch a rare comedy that is also scooping up award nominations. Writer / Director / Producer Cord Jefferson nails directorial debut, which balances heavy themes with laugh out loud moments, while leaving the viewer with lots to think about once the credits roll. American Fiction (2023), directed by Cord Jefferson.

Monk is the lead character of the new movie "American Fiction," which is based on the 2001 novel "Erasure" by Percival Everett. Monk is a Black man but never feels 'Black' enough: he graduated from Harvard, his siblings are doctors, he doesn't play basketball and he writes literary novels. In fact, his last novel got rejected for not being "Black enough." As a Black man who thinks about race but also rages against having to talk about it, Monk gets so frustrated that he decides to poke fun of those who uncritically consume what has been sold to them as "Black culture." He uses a pen name to write an outlandish "Black" book of his own - a story about "thug life" called "My Pafology." But plot twist: the book becomes wildly popular - and Monk ends up profiting from the stereotypes he so despises. The story has so many layers, and in this last episode of Season 6, Vinita breaks it down with two scholars who are well versed in Percival Everett's work - and the use of Black stereotypes in pop culture. Vershawn Ashanti Young is the director of Black studies at the University of Waterloo. And Anthony Stewart is a professor of English at Bucknell University.

On this special Bonus Episode of The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas reignite the rivalry, and once again ask the ultimate question, "Are you an Anderson Guy, or an Anderson Guy?"That's right! With a new Wes Anderson film now out, Anderson vs. Anderson is back, with the 11th feature from the visionary director – ASTEROID CITY. Once again, we've got an ensemble cast, with Jason Schwartzman leading the charge, alongside Wes Anderson regulars, Scarlett Johansson, Edward Norton, Adrian Brody, Liev Schreiber, Jeffery Wright, Tony Revolori, Bob Balaban, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton and Jeff Goldblum. Plus, we see the additions of Margot Robbie, Matt Dillon, Maya Hawke, Hong Chau, Steve Carell, and Tom "freaking" Hanks to the cast of characters in the idiosyncratic director's first foray into sci-fi.Full of all the camera tricks and movements, centre framed shots, visual effects, pastel colours, unique wardrobe, stunning set design, whimsical music and stories, stop-motion, swapping between colour and black and white, and the new addition of a play set within a movie – it's probably the most Wes Anderson Wes Anderson movie yet! But is that a good thing?Join us, as we once again crack into the Twee world of Wes Anderson for his latest delights! And just maybe, in the near future, we will finally dip our toes into Paul Thomas Anderson's first film, HARD EIGHT, because we never did it in the original run, and the director doesn't seem to have anything new in store for us any time soon.If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! The Sci-Fi Shuffle is back, and no "thinky" movies this time (except we overthink it anyway) - it's the 2011 film "Source Code"! We talk time loop movies, infinite Jakes and and energy drinks. It's the movie that dares to ask the question: would you rather be blown up on a train or pretend to be a high school teacher for the rest of your life? One of cinema's classic conundrums!
In this episode, we catch up over several glasses of red wine and M. Night Shyamalan's puzzlingly dull fantasy/thriller, Lady in the Water (2006). Cameron dishes on the highs and lows of Thai Netflix, while Dylan repeatedly mispronounces one of the lead actor's last name. A good time was had by all so pull up a stool and pour yourself a glass! Lady in the Water was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and it stares Paul Giamatti, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeffery Wright.

In this episode the boys tackle Matt Reeves' take on the iconic DC superhero. The Batman sees Robert Pattinson in the titular role, joined by Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell and Jeffery Wright. Does this iteration deserve it being the Dark Knights third reincarnation in ten years or should it have stayed well and truly in the bat-cave?
The squad is back after a short break. This episode is mainly about “The Batman” staring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Jeffery Wright.

As it was the tradition on a Sunday afternoon, Matthew Krol and co-host Shahir Daud would record auditory remarks on the weeks cinema, perhaps while thinking about their lunch order. This week was no different. A new portmanteau by director Wes Anderson depicting the journalistic writing of a fictional periodical entitled "The French Dispatch" would dredge up both enthusiasm and trigger memories of previous discussions about journalists in cinema. In all honesty, this week we had an entirely different show researched, planned, and ready. BUT, after heading to the movie theater to watch the brand new released THE BATMAN...we had to turn on our mics and talk about this film immediately. Both of us being comic book fans/nerds since our youth, Tyler being a comic book artist, and both of us being GIANT-SIZED fans of Batman we knew we couldn't wait until this movie was "streaming" at home. We really had to see if Robert Pattinson could pull it off... If you haven't seen THE BATMAN yet then please don't listen to this episode until you do - we discuss all aspects of the movie...what we liked, what we didn't like, and spoiler-filled plot points. CONSIDER THIS YOUR SPOILER-WARNING FROM THAT WOULD BE RAD. You'll have to listen to this week's episode to hear what our final verdict of the movie was but - no matter what we can certainly tell you now. Don't wait to watch this movie at home when it's streaming. Spring for the IMAX ticket, see it on a BIG screen, with excellent loud sound. The cinematography, soundtrack, and sound design deserve the best venue. Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that talks about lesser-known trivia, facts and even anecdotes from popular shows and films. I'm your host NikhilThe world's most popular superhero, Batman, is set for a new iteration. The new film, titled The Batman, is directed by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson playing the titular character as the ‘Caped Crusader'. The film also stars Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farell, Paul Dano, Jeffery Wright, and Andy Serkis. The story will focus on a younger version of the dark knight and will be a gritty noir detective film. The movie is set to hit theatres this weekend. While auditioning for The Batman Robert Pattinson was filming for Christopher Nolan's Tenet. Pattinson decided to keep the fact that he was auditioning to play Batman a secret, including Nolan, a former Batman director. So Pattinson lied to Nolan to get a day off from work. But Nolan was already aware of the fact and even congratulated Pattinson on getting the role even before Pattinson had informed the news to anyone. Robert Pattinson was a massive fan of Batman growing up. He admitted that he has been to every Batman movie on its opening weekend. The one advice both Zoë Kravitz and Robert Pattinson received from iconic actors who previously played Catwoman and Batman were identical. Michelle Pfeiffer who played Catwoman in Tim Burton's Batman films, and Christian Bale who played Batman in Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy told the new stars to make sure their new suits had zippers so that it was easier to go to the bathroom in their suits. The real-life serial killer the Zodiac killer was the inspiration behind Matt Reeves' version of the Riddler. The serial killer in fact featured in the 2007 David Fincher film Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. Moreover, Jake Gyllenhaal was rumored to play Batman before Ben Affleck was cast to replace Christian Bale. Robert Pattinson auditioned for the role using two different Batman suits, the main body was Val Kilmer's suit while the cowl was George Clooney's. This was because Pattinson's head couldn't fit into Kilmer's cowl. Both Robert Pattinson and his character Bruce Wayne/Batman share the same middle name, which is Thomas. For his role as the Penguin, Colin Farrell wore makeup and a fat suit that contained six pieces of facial prosthetics. The crew used strong flashlights to check if there were any uneven seams. To test the costume Farrell even went into a local Starbucks and no one recognised him. Robert Pattinson listened to symphonies or heavy metal while preparing himself on set before a scene to play Batman. He mainly listened to Bach and Wagner. The Batman is slated to release in theaters this weekend.Well that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today, Until the next podcast it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho
The Batman feels like WB making the strategic and smart decision to go back to what has worked for their live action Batman movies. This means a more grounded Batman with less of the super hero elements but a solid story that will get both critic and audience praise. For better or worse, this film feels like the natural progression from Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Matt Reeves took a lot of the elements and themes from Nolan's trilogy and added them to a neo-noir detective story that overall works. If you remember that this is Year Two Batman and that this film is really meant as set up to flesh out Gotham and the world this Batman will operate in, then the shortcomings can be overlooked to form a good movie with a potential for a great franchise. There are several things that work for The Batman. First, first is the story and focus on the detective aspect of Batman. The story is built around being a detective thriller and despite pacing and a way too long run time, it's a good entry point to this new Batman and Gotham. If you view this film as the setup for the rest of the franchise then what Reeves does is build out a Gotham that feels like it's a character itself, which is an important part of any Batman story. In many ways the themes of Gotham and corruption are lifted straight from what Nolan's trilogy focused on with slight changes. Some might not appreciate how similar they are but you can't really fault a film for going with what works. Pattinson can hold his own as Batman but finds himself outacted by Zoë Kravitz and Jeffery Wright. It's not really his fault as the direction he's given for the character. Again, with the focus being on this being a Batman only 2 years into his war on crime, the character itself isn't supposed to be well rounded. For what he's asked to do it works and even better, at no point does he feel like he shouldn't be there. There are a few things that hold this film back from being great. The runtime for The Batman is the biggest negative against it. This film is about 30-45 minutes too long. A better job editing could have made this story tighter with better pacing. The longer runtime could be forgiven if the film went for a more well rounded character development for Batman and given us more of Patttinson as Bruce Wayne. Instead what we get is a film that ends and then continues to on and on and on. The lighting in the film is also really bad (in 2022, can we please light Black people better on film? please). Just because a film is a neo-noir film doesn't mean it has to be shot in pitch black. There are scenes in this film that are lighted so poorly it's really hard to see what's happening on the screen. Which is unacceptable. Lastly, the fight scenes with Batman are uninspiring. For all the things Batman v Superman did wrong, the warehouse fight scene with Batman is the gold standard for how Batman should be fighting. There are times in this film where you can see how clunky the Batsuit is and it just doesn't work for any serious hand-to-hand fighting. But again, it's clearly not the focus. Overall The Batman does what it needs to do. There are plenty of good things and the negatives are things that can be fixed moving forward. No, this isn't the Batman many have been waiting for. But at this point, it's pretty much settled that if you want the comic Batman you'd be better off picking up a comic or playing one of the Arkham games. The Batman is more in the tradition of Nolan's Batman and all things considered, that's not too bad. Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode! Jason and Joseph discuss "What If... Ultron Won?". This week we ponder: Did Thanos love Nebula more in this universe? Is that really just Hawkeye's end of the world haircut? And will we ever see Jeffery Wright play this FunkoPop-like being in live action?
Led by interviews from Rami Malek, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Lashana Lynch, we'll explore what makes a classic supporting character and look back at some of 007's most iconic nemeses such as Le Chiffre from Casino Royale, Raoul Silva from Skyfall, Blofeld and Rami Malek introduces his new supervillain: Safin. We'll dig deep into Bond's greatest allies, tracing Miss Moneypenny's role in the series, Jeffery Wright's interpretation of Felix Leiter and hear from Léa Seydoux on the return of Madeleine Swann. We also meet new 00 agent Nomi as Lashana Lynch explains what this newest MI6 recruit means for Bond… The series' longstanding casting director Debbie McWilliams will also take us behind the scenes to uncover how she and her team find the perfect cast for a James Bond film. You can also be the first to hear exclusive score from Hans Zimmer released by Decca Records. We talk about What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger? and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about The Watcher, Captain Carter, Captain Britain, Hydra Stomper, Cthulhu, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Uatu the Watcher is a member of the oldest species in the universe and is supposed to merely observe and compile knowledge but he is known to have helped the Fantastic Four. (voiced by Jeffery Wright!) Listen to our podcast about Captain America: The First Avenger to get more insight into this episode. What if Steve Rogers got shot by a Hydra agent right before becoming a super soldier? Captain Carter is what. Captain Britain is from the comics and he carried a sword instead of a shield. Hydra Stomper is very similar to Tony Stark's Mark I Iron Man suit. Cthulhu apparently doesn't have any relation to Hyrda in the comics but it should have.
BOF's Founder/EIC -- Bill "Jett" Ramey -- is joined by Senior BOF Contributor Peter Verra on the 26th episode of the BOF Social Hour. On this show, the guys discuss Jim Gordon on film -- mainly the return of J.K. Simmons in BATGIRL and the soon to be seen Jeffery Wright in THE BATMAN. Also, Peter baits Bill into several tangents which include coaching football in Texas...and some Batman stuff too!
Finesse and Genie agree that they both like Jeffery Wright but all the other bullshit going on right now has to stop. Episode 27 is Funny and Sad at the same damn time.
We are back this week for our discussion on 2006's Casino Royale. This is the film that brought me to Bond permanently. Daniel Craig was just a powerhouse. He brought a little bit of Sir Sean with him for the ride. You can feel 007's heritage in his performance, while making the role seemingly entirely his own as well. He is a wrecking ball in this film, while still bringing on the charm and sophistication to the role, something every Bond needs. And alongside him, Vesper, one of the best Bond Women we've ever seen. Intelligent, witty, and with a side of deception. One of the more in-depth Bond Women characters we've ever seen. We meet playful and mischievous Rene Mathis, who is right up there with Kerim Bey as far as sidekicks go. Equally as charming and humorous. We are introduced to Le Chiffre, who is menacing in his coolness. And of course, we are also introduced to the coolest Felix Leiter of all the Felixes in Jeffery Wright. This is in my mind the best of the best when it comes to 007.

In 2018, actress Kelly Jenrette was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance as Annie on the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale. The nomination shined a bright spotlight on her work and talent. Before her Emmy nom, Kelly worked on shows like Fuller House and Grandfathered. But in 2020, she starred in two films and a new TV series. She played Brenda in the film Uncorked, Delanda in All Day and a Night opposite Jeffery Wright and Stacy Knox in the CBS series Manhunt: Deadly Games. Not only are those three projects currently on Netflix, but Manhunt: Deadly Games is currently one of the top 10 series on the streaming service.

Your mission, Baddies, should you choose to accept it, is to sit through Alejandro’s hour long nerd rant about James Bond. After almost a year, Alejandro has succeeded in getting Christian to watch a Bond Film. Quantum of Solace (2008) is Daniel Craig’s second outing as James Bond and he’s joined by Dame Judi Dench (not as a cat [see Episode 41 Cats & Taylor Swift Kitty Titties]), Jeffery Wright, David Harbour, and Rory Kinnear. The Boys figure out how you can fit two films into your day. Christian has zero reference points and is thrust into a sequel to a film he’s never seen. Alejandro shows Christian a few Easter eggs peppered into this film, but it all means close to nothing to Christian. Alejandro explains how society influences Bond films and how, once you go Bond, you can never wear a tuxedo again.Check out our website at https://www.icbtb.comRate and review us on Apple Podcastshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/it-cant-be-that-bad/id1470379470Or listen to us on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/7FsYf47r7B8fyxgG9elgt9?si=o4k6CKcKS96N6k2t-_WBVw

Heroes Garage Episode 100 Tom and Eric talk Star Wars, Batman, and Rick & Morty Have you subscribed to Disney+? Watched Madalorian? HBONow or watched Watchman? Star Wars Trailer talk 4:56 Are we more excited, less excited? Has any of our perceptions of the movie changed with the new trailer?’ They totally ditched Rey’s dark side portrayal and this trailer was her “Hero” trailer essentially. - feels like a fractured thread that will lead fans feeling unsatisfied/unless the movie is great then we won’t care. There are so many of the old Imperial class star destroyers instead of the First Order Resurgent class. B-wings, but also this battle takes place in the present time. Or Poe Dameron is riding horse aliens with BB8 in the past. Emperor Palpatine is in a walker like chair. I think they are just going to try and make the last 2 movies the Emperor's grand plan. It has an epic scale. Truly the END of the war will be the movie. ESPN and Disney hyping it up as a MNF sneak peek was funnier than anything in the trailer. Batman casting news Jeffery Wright is Comm. Gordon. I think an excellent pick Andy Serkis is going to be Alfred. He is a great actor, but IDK about the calm and witty Alfred. His role is much better suited to the character he played in Black Panther. WOW Marvel did it better again. Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman is fine. Not much to say I think she will do well with that character. Colin Farrell as The Penguin. I’m calling it now, Danny Devito did it better. Paul Dano as The Riddler. I think a good casting…. But Jim Carrey did it better. Quick take on Dark Phoenix - 34:50 BOOOOOOO-ring. Why did they make this film? Because they wanted to capitalize on the fame and stardom of Sophie Turner AKA Sansa Stark. I literally said, “BITCH you are in space! How are you not dead?” I honestly am not sure if I should hate Dr. X for what he did to Jean, or if I should be sympathetic. Movie made it split I think for several reasons, but Beasts attack on him when they were drinking after Mystiques death was stupid and pointless. Also, thank god Mystique is dead. Except what about continuity with the original Xmen trilogy? Best scene was the train car fight at the end. Aliens were incredibly boring and generic and so at least they got to die in creative ways as the Xmen showed of their powers. Rick and Morty new season ep 1 discussion 47:36 A little underwhelming. Idk, I have to watch it another 10 times, and how it fits into the rest of the show. Too happy and upbeat to be honest. I loved Rick’s unwavering hate and abuse of Morty because it was funny and the crux of their relationship. If that changes to a more positive one between the two then I think the show is dead. Where is my Sezchuwan sauce??? I did love Rick’s arc as he was killed multiple times and came back to facist versions of himself. That part was hilarious. And the return of Mr. Meeseeks! Still had plenty of funny moments and was the classic style of a smart, well-made sci-fi animated show. Re-review of Joker 55:10 Arthouse film with a AAA pedigree. Beat Deadpool as the most profitable R rated movie ever. Did it need to even be linked to the DC universe? Yes, if it wanted to be commercially successful. 21st century Taxi Driver. Joaquin Phoenix was great. Visuals were excellent. Music was interesting as it would carry the film for long periods of time. Movie was very slow until the end. Then it was awesome. Last act of the film was magnificent. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tom-zimm7/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tom-zimm7/support

Jeremy Saulnier has carved out his own little place in film history. His second feature film Blue Ruin was the first of its kind in many ways, an artful genre thriller that is a spectacle to behold and shot on a shoestring budget. His next film, Green Room, cemented his place as one of today's most talented thriller auteurs. And it all stems back from blowing shit up as an eight-year-old in his backyard. There wasn't really a time when Saulnier's life didn't revolve around the camera. From making zombie flicks as a teen to starting a film collective in high school to making his way up the film ladder as a cinematographer, his experiences have been a constant education on the ways of film. And while he swears his days as a DP were "more fun", his artful visual touch is still very much present as a director. The latest film on his resume, the Netflix produced Hold The Dark, is further evidence of his unique ability to tell suspenseful stories from behind the lens of a camera. In it, Jeffery Wright plays a writer named Russel Core who, after the deaths of three children suspected to be killed by wolves, is hired by the mother of a missing six-year-old boy to track down and locate their son in the Alaskan wilderness. I sat down with Saulnier to discuss getting your hands dirty on production, keeping that enthusiasm going, and not being afraid to ask for what your narrative demands.
Something About Violent Delights and Ends This week on the podcast Johnny and Brian take in the “Natural” Splendor of Westworld season 2 and share their thoughts on the visits to the Raj, Shogun World and more! Westworld (2018) Season 2 Summary The second season follows in the aftermath of Dolores’ uprising, as she recruits a number of hosts to fight off arriving Delos security forces, while looking for the key to the Valley Beyond, believed by the Ghost Nation to be a door to the next world. Maeve continues to search for her daughter, learning that there are other parks like Westworld. William finds that Ford has left him clues to find “the door”, a new game for him to play, during which he encounters his estranged daughter Emily, who blames him for her mother’s death. Delusional, William kills Emily, thinking she is a host. Dolores, with Bernard’s help, finds the Forge, where memories from all the guests to the park have been kept. Bernard helps a number of hosts transfer their programming to a digital space. Dolores wants to wipe out the guests’ records, and seeks a means to kill them in the real world. With more Delos...
