*This episode was originally released on 4/26/23 on Patreon. It was on February 9, 1960, when a milkman stopped and laid on his horn in the middle of a bridge over Turkey Creek, near Morrison, Colorado. Some asshole was blocking the road with his station wagon. But after several honks, the milkman decided to get out and check on the driver. But wait, there was no driver! WTF! - the station wagon was empty, with the engine running, and the radio playing. The milkman, had a bad feeling about this…it just didn't smell right, ya know so he reported it to the police, who quickly figured out the owner of the car was none other than, Heir to, what would eventually become the 4th largest Brewing company in the US, ADOLPH COORS, III !!! Adolph Coors III was in an enviable position. His grandfather had founded the Coors Brewing company, and by 1960, Adolph Coors III was the company's CEO. He had a wife and four children. He was one of Colorado's most influential business people. But that also made him a target. So when Adolph's car was discovered abandoned on Turkey Creek Bridge, just two miles from his home, the FBI quickly stepped in. Then Brandi tells us about the disappearance of Gail Katz. When Gail met Robert Bierenbaum, she thought she'd found the perfect guy. He was studying to become a doctor. He spoke multiple languages. He even flew planes. Their dates were incredibly romantic. But over time, Gail came to see that Robert was far from perfect. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. Three hours later, a milkman found the green-and-white car, with its motor running, abandoned on a rickety wooden bridge over Turkey Creek, two miles north of Coors' home. Director and Columbine High School graduate Laura Farber made a very personal look at living with the 1999 massacre, featuring a handful of her classmates, and Toby is back to talk about the emotional terrain it covers, how it chose its subjects, and the ways survivors live with trauma. In the Cold Case section, my attempt to impose a Colorado theme backfired somewhat with a Most Notorious episode from last year on the kidnapping of Coors heir Adolph "Ad" Coors III, and we tried to diagnose what it was about this story and this interview-podcast style that didn't quite match up for a good listen.
In Episode 22 of Murder and Such, Haley decides to cover a case close to home in Colorado and went with the kidnapping of Adolph Coors III back in 1960. Not only do we cover the kidnapping of a member from the Coors beer family, but Hunter also discusses about the Lindbergh Law that was imposed on the kidnapper. This episode has been highly infused with Coors Lite. You've been warned. Cheers!
