When writer / director  Seth Ferranti received a twenty-five year LSD kingpin conviction, after faking his suicide and landing on the US Marshals Top-15 Most Wanted list, he thought his life was over. As a first time, non-violent offender, the lengthy sentence attracted media attention from The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, The Washington Times, and others.    Turning despair into drive, Ferranti earned an associates, bachelors, and masters degree while in prison and started penning prison and gangster stories for VICE, Don Diva, FEDS, Hoopshype and others. He became a true-crime publisher from the cell block and built a website and publishing house,  Gorilla Convict, that documented stories that the mainstream media was not willing to share.   In February 2015, after serving 21 years, he was released from the Bureau of Prisons, to seek his fortune. Back in the world Ferranti continued his writing career as a journalist penning pieces for VICE, OZY, The Daily Beast, Dazed, MERRY JANE, and features for Penthouse and Real Crime Magazines, among others. He also embarked on his true passion, filmmaking.    Ferranti joined forces with Shawn Rech and Transitions Studios to make WHITE BOY, a top ten Netflix feature documentary on Richard Wershe Jr. Seth also starred in the season one finale of VICE's I WAS A TEENAGE FELON. Modeling himself as the Quentin Tarantino of documentaries,  he currently has four documentary projects in production and three in post at his studio OUTLAW FILMS. William Leonard Pickard is a former research associate in neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, Harvard fellow in drug policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Deputy Director of the Drug Policy Analysis Program at UCLA. His 1996 prediction of the fentanyl epidemic was published by RAND in The Future of Fentanyl and Other Synthetic Opioids. In 2015 Pickard published The Rose of Paracelsus: On Secrets & Sacraments, a 656-page autobiography that blends fiction and nonfiction. The book centers around six chemists in an international drug organization. One of the Six tells Pickard, the book's narrator, that the making of psychedelics is not just following a recipe or formula but requires "the requisite spirit ... the purest intent, a flawless diamond morality". He says it's the same spirit described in Thomas De Quincey and Jorge Luis Borges's short stories about Paracelsus, the 16th-century physician and alchemist of Basel who resurrected a rose from its ashes: "there could be no creation for lack of faith and the trust of gold". Writing while incarcerated, Pickard wrote the entire book with pencil and paper. In an interview with Seth Ferranti, Pickard recounted: "The Rose was handwritten in two years, without notes and based on recollection, but seemed too trivial to honor the reader. I destroyed the work in minutes, then began again. It took another three years to compose, then a year to edit the 656 pages." Readings of The Rose of Paracelsus were presented at the University of Greenwich in London in June 2017. Readers included British artist and Resonance FM radio host Simon Tyszko, SEED Restaurant founder Greg Sams and post-doctoral fellow in literature Neşe Devenot. In November 2016, British actor Dudley Sutton did readings of The Rose of Paracelsus at Reading Gaol, in Oscar Wilde's former cell. The Rose also has been reviewed by author and Psychedelic Museum founder Julian Vayne. In November 2017, readings from The Rose were presented at the Altered Conference Berlin, and in December 2017 The Rose was discussed on the major podcast The Joe Rogan Experience with Duncan Trussell. I'd spent my late teenage years dealing weed and psychedelics while following the Grateful Dead, only to get busted by cops in Northern Virginia for selling LSD and marijuana at East Coast colleges back in 1991. In my youthful, defiant brain, I'd just been selectively disregarding the law, just like everyone else does — albeit on a scale that involved thousands of hits of acid. I'd get LSD sent to me by an associate on the West Coast, and then distribute it, wholesale, to a network of suppliers and dealers. Peter “Chappy” Meyerhoff sits down with ex-con filmmaker Seth Ferranti.A military brat, Seth was into drugs at the ripe young age of 13. At age 19 in high school, he had built an empire, supplying around 15 colleges across five states. In 1991, he became one of the first targets in the expanded war on drugs. He was initially arrested on the state level for “conspiracy to distribute LSD”. When writer / director Seth Ferranti received a twenty-five year LSD kingpin conviction, after faking his suicide and landing on the US Marshals Top-15 Most Wanted list, he thought his life was over. As a drug dealing teen Ferranti sold LSD and marijuana at 15 East Coast colleges, crisscrossing across five states- Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Maryland- a wanna-be rock star and Hunter S. Seth Ferranti spent twenty one years in federal prison after being convicted as an LSD kingpin. He had initially faked his suicide to evade law enforcement and was on the US Marshall's 15 Most Wanted list before his eventual arrest. Being a first time, non-violent drug offender, the severity of his sentence garnished national attention and was covered extensively by The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, and many other publications. On this episode we learn the amazing story of writer/director Seth Ferranti. After receiving a twenty-five year LSD kingpin conviction, faking his suicide, and landing on the US Marshals Top-15 Most Wanted List, he thought his life was over. While earning an associates, bachelors, and masters degree in prison he began to write for Vice, The Daily Beast, and many other publications. After getting out in 2015, he helped write/produce the documentary White Boy, featured on both Starz and Netflix. We also get to learn his favorite word of all time and what he'd want God to say to him at the pearly gates.

His crime and punishment are so out of line, it is difficult to believe that the USA would treat a college kid selling pot and LSD as if he were Pablo Escobar, but that's what they did. He got the highest possible sentence. Interview with Seth Ferranti, a former LSD Kingpin who was on the top 15 U.S. Marshal's most wanted list. He started out life as a quintessential all American boy growing up in the suburbs. This changed as he rose through the ranks of the drug game, moving LSD and cannabis to over a dozen colleges up and down the east coast. He was eventually caught by law enforcement but managed to evade capture for two years til he was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. He quickly adapted to life inside the penitentiary and was able to build a successful writing career while serving time.
