Creatives Making Money: Financial, Branding & Marketing Strategies For Creative Entrepreneurs, and Influencers

I simply adore Allison Braun and everything she puts out in the world. Her work has truly changed my life, and it’s 100% one of those things that you could easily think to yourself “OH, I don’t really need that” -- but trust me, YA DO.   Now if you’re not yet convinced from our magical interview, take my trusty word for it. YA WANNA FOLLOW HER, Y’ALL. Gobble up her free content. Invest in her programs. You won’t regret it.Now, here’s a fun recap of our convo in case you want to review the highlight reel and some items we mentioned!   Having a pretty blue safe was something that taught Allison to keep and have fun with her money at just 6-years-old. For you parents in the audience, this might be a great way to teach your kids to take care of and value their money! Remember, if you feel like you were never included in the conversation about money, or like it’s a taboo topic to cover with people in your life -- it’s up to YOU to take that initiative and break the mold. As Allison said, “No one will approach you and ask you to participate…” You’ve gotta take that initiative yourself. Allison mentioned being a “Projector” according to Human Design. Wanna learn more about Human Design? You can get a chart and report at humandesignamerica.com! When you’re working on your relationship with money, and making it less serious and more fun, literally ask yourself “What would make this more fun?” As money is one of the biggest causes of STRESS, we want to create more joy and ease around the subject so that you stress less and feel better (plus it’s good for your health!). What IS the LIVING RICHLY FRAMEWORK? It’s a process that walks you through looking at where you’re fully expressing yourself in your life (or not), researching and redefining what success means to you, creating a new identity that you can integrate and inhabit around what you discover, and remembering to fully receive and appreciate all you already have. Jotting down 10 things you’re grateful for every day is WONDERFUL, but it’s way better when you’re also giving yourself the space and breathing room to truly FEEL IT. If you’re feeling BROKE AF, here’s what to do: 1. Remember you’re not alone. 2. Look at where you are already RICH. 3. Make a list of the things that make you feel rich, and find a way to do the items that you have easy, available access to! Not all the things that make you feel rich actually cost money. :)Some of my favorite BIG takeaways…   We’re always creating identities for ourselves as we’re doing life in the world. It’s important to stay conscious of what identities we’re creating so we make sure they’re expanding our sense of self instead of limiting it.   Being creative is about MORE than being an artist, just like living richly is about more than what’s in your bank account.   Ease is undervalued in our society because we tend to glorify “hard work” and being BUSY. So it takes some extra work to really allow ourselves to do things the easy way.   YAY! And here’s where to soak up all that Allison Braun Goodness! JUST DO IT! Theresa gives a shout out to NIKE and their endorsement of Colin Kaepernick, (and surprisingly Shana reveals that she said 'no' to NIKE licensing one of her songs back in the day..wha??) Since tomorrow are the NY primaries we also talk about some of the candidates that are running, and we both agree that we feel we are due for a change in NY politics! One of Shana's favorite political podcasts, Pod Save America aired an interview with Stephanie Shriock of Emily's List and Shana wanted to play an edited version of the conversation on our show. They are an inspiring look into women in politics today, and maybe it will keep you feeling inspired as well. :) Our first guest is Jessica Dupont of Half Moon Books . She tells us a story of walking by the then for sale book store while waiting to pick up a pizza for her young family and how she decided that she wanted to buy the store and within 6 months she did! She says that owning the store was likened to being a new mom, you don't have the answers, you just have to figure it out. "It's better that I didn't know the challenges of running a bookstore because I might not have taken the leap!" Jessica shares her approach to shelving the books in her store which breaks down the black/white, male/female categories that keep us reading the same words by the same people, changing our perspectives and the world one shelf at a time! Our second guest is Allison Braun of "Smell the Damn Roses" hobby festival this Sept 22nd in Stone Ridge NY. Born with a disease where her body continuously produces cysts, she underwent a major surgery around the age of 6-7 which stopped the outbreaks of cysts but a series of subsequent surgeries to remove them from her body left scarring on her left arm. She reflected on her perspective of her illness and how it didn't truly affect her until other people started looking at and treating her differently. Because she spent a lot of time alone, she's well practiced in the art of self-reflection and looking within which lead her to a love of hobbies. Her philosophy on life, work for something you love or is important to you. "Adulting can wait until tomorrow." Self care, Theresa shares from the book The Radiance Sutras about listening to your heart's song. Shana shares her experience in processing the passing of a friend. "Any moment of wounding immediately produces a healing response from life." The Radiance Sutras As always we included clips from the documentary "She's Beautiful When She's Angry" Next week on the show we have Beth Bengston, founder of the non-profit Working for Women, and trans musician Jem Violet Emily's List: https://www.emilyslist.org/pages/entry/our-history Half Moon Books: https://halfmoonusedbooks.com Smell the Damn Roses https://www.chronogram.com/hudsonvalley/smell-the-damn-roses-hobby-festival/Event?oid=4348431 Radiance Sutras: http://www.radiancesutras.com/ Today's show was engineered by Manuel Blas of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org. Meet Allison Braun In this week’s episode of ‘Adulting with Ebonie’, Ebonie is chatting with Allison Braun about ‘Living Richly’.  Allison is affectionately known as the Queen of Ease. She’s the founder of The Business Pleasure Map, Clarity To Clients, and the Living Richly framework.  As an international Business & Lifestyle Success Coach she helps her devoted, gifted, but overworking and tired clients to expand into their next level of fulfilling success with more ease and joy and without pushing and hustling. For more information about Allison, you can visit her website website: http://www.allisonbraun.com/ (www.AllisonBraun.com), find her on Facebook at @AllisonBraunTheJoyologist or on Instagram at@allisonbraun Fav quotes from this episode: “Adulting doesn’t have to be serious - enjoy the journey as much as possible!” “Living richly isn’t just about money” “I’m an adult but… I love cartoons!” “I am enough. I have enough” In this episode we talk about: How people can feel rich despite their circumstances, and vice versa. That how rich we feel isn’t dictated by how much money we have - there isn’t always a correlation between the feeling of wealth and our financial resources. That in the world there are so many people working from a space of ‘I haven’t got enough!’, and that these people either burn out or don’t feel any joy or success when the reach a particular milestone. How the idea of richness is textured; in order to enjoy the process whether or not you reach your financial goals, you need to be present and acknowledge everything around you.    Plus, we also talk about how feelings of richness can come from spirituality, when a person has a belief and awareness of something ‘other’ and larger than them.

We are co-creative powerhouses. We are able to set intentions and create magic. We are able to visualize a desired outcome or desired lifestyle, and sit back months or a year later in awe that we are now living what we once imagined. There’s so much Divine creative power inside of each of us. But there’s also a sneaky trap in that. Many people invest so much of their time and energy creating their future and working on their goals, without really being present in the moment. We think we’ll feel good when we get ‘there.’ But we can’t just visualize and feel good for those few minutes in ritual, and then go back to our current lives and think we’re not still in communication with the Divine in routine. We are most powerful when we find a way to balance intentionally creating our futures the way we desire, whilst feeling everything we wish to feel in the future – in this moment. Right now. Allison Braun (a business & lifestyle success coach for freedom-seeking, purpose-driven coaches and healers) and I spoke all about this crucial balance between creating our future and enjoying our present in this podcast episode. Allison believes the more emphasis you put on enjoying the journey, rather than pushing towards unaligned goals, the more fulfilling your “work” will be. And she is a powerful energetic transmission of just that – so I know you’ll like what you hear but also what you feel listening to this episode! Inspired takeaways include: • The third pathway that Allison teaches, how you can honour your body and yourself more AND allow your income to naturally grow as well • How to find the balance between enjoying the present moment and intentionally creating your desire future • The trap of manifesting and visualizing in order to attract what you want or block what you don’t want, and how you can actually find everything that you desire by coming back to the present moment • How to identify what YOU really want and not what others want you to want • How to invite more pleasure into every moment • How we all have this upper limit around how good we think it’s safe to feel and how to keep raising that bar so it doesn’t stop us from the good feels that we actually deserve • The sneaky comfort zone in personal and spiritual development where we feel more safe and more comfortable ‘working on our stuff’ than just enjoying life • How our ego uses what we value to trick us into staying right where we are • Dropping the need for struggle as a badge of honour • How to really stick to your boundaries around what you know serves you, and trust that’s the greatest good for all JOIN THE TRIBE – Head over to https://www.facebook.com/groups/lightworkersrising/ to join a community and sacred space for lightworkers.
