What if the story you've been telling yourself… isn't even yours? In this deeply validating and insight-rich episode of the Connection Codes podcast, Tera Wages joins Dr. Glenn and Phyllis Hill to explore how childhood messages, cultural labels, and relationship dynamics shape—and often limit—our identity. Through personal stories, including leaving church, navigating marriage intimacy, and feeling misunderstood by family, the hosts unpack what it means to "wear a hat" that no longer fits.Listeners will be challenged to ask: Who put this label on me? Why am I still wearing it? With raw emotional depth and practical wisdom, the episode empowers you to identify the inner “judge,” rewire internal narratives, and intentionally reclaim who you want to become.Links and Resources:Book a discovery call for Overwhelm Overhaul: https://calendly.com/tera-wages/30min?month=2025-03 Connection Codes: https://connectioncodes.co/(If links are not working, please copy and paste connectioncodes.co to your search bar and look through our site menu!)________________________________________________________________Chapters:00:00:00 – Identity Isn't Just a Concept—It's Personal00:02:26 – When You Realize You've Been Wearing the Wrong Hat00:05:53 – Do I Even Matter… to Me?00:09:23 – The Labels We Live By (And How to Let Them Go)00:13:26 – How External Voices Shape Internal Battles00:25:56 – Old Messages, New Awareness: What Are You Still Carrying?00:27:19 – Step Into the Judge's Chamber—You Might Be Surprised Who's Inside00:28:14 – The Dishwasher Story: It Was Never About the Dishes00:29:28 – Tearing Off the Labels That Keep Us Small00:32:46 – Speak Life: The Words That Shape Who You Become00:42:00 – Feel It to Heal It: A Real Look at the Core Emotion Wheel

What happens when the preventative surgery you chose to avoid cancer reveals you already have it?  In this episode of "Every Soul Has a Story," Dara Levan welcomes author Gila Pfeffer, whose memoir "Nearly Departed" chronicles her journey through losing both parents to cancer at a young age and her own battle with breast cancer. With refreshing candor and signature wit, Gila shares how her Orthodox Jewish identity shaped her experiences and how becoming a mother to four children galvanized her commitment to preventative healthcare - ultimately saving her life when a preventative mastectomy revealed aggressive cancer.  Weaving together themes of resilience, authentic storytelling, and finding humor in life's darkest moments, Gila reflects on the profound significance of reaching age 50 - making her the first woman in four generations of her family to achieve this milestone. Her powerful metaphor of a broken mug still worth saving resonates deeply as she discusses her advocacy work and how sharing her story has inspired countless women to prioritize breast health. Like the cracked vessel on her book cover - weathered yet still holding precious contents - Gila's narrative embodies the beauty of imperfect survival.  Gila Pfeffer is a Jewish American humor writer whose memoir "Nearly Departed" chronicles her journey through loss, cancer, and survival with unflinching candor and unexpected hilarity. A fifteen-year breast cancer previvor and survivor, Gila's "Feel It on the First" campaign has directly led to earlier diagnoses for countless women through its tongue-in-cheek reminders about breast health. As an Orthodox Jewish mother of four who underwent preventative mastectomy at 34 only to discover early-stage cancer, Gila's writing - featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and McSweeney's - transforms tragedy into empowerment through her signature wit. She splits her time between London, New York City, and Instagram.  In This Episode:  (00:00) Meet Gila Pfeffer: Author of "Nearly Departed" (05:26) "Making fun of something is taking your power back" (08:12) What does authentic branding really mean? (13:07) Breaking the cycle: First to reach 50 (19:11) The delicate balance of telling your truth in memoir (23:51) How four children saved their mother's life (29:16) Beyond the pink ribbon: Rethinking breast cancer awareness (34:42) One person at a time: The impact of sharing your story (38:45) The metaphor of the broken mug  (39:55) Closing thoughts   Like and subscribe to hear all of our inspirational episodes!  Resources: https://www.gilapfeffer.com/ @GilaPfeffer on Instagram Nearly Departed Sign up for Dara's Newsletter Listen to other podcast episodes Here Connect with Dara on Instagram and Facebook Visit DaraLevan.com

About the mix: I brought a mix of new and old favs, and like last year I decided to pack the middle with drum n bass to keep folks steppin. Most of the tracks were re-edited and I've been enjoying tinkering with stems lately, so that's where some of the acapellas come into play. There's also a quick tribute to breakbeat originator, Lennie Le Ice and his groundbreaking track “We Are E.I.”—I'll work the whole thing into another set down the road, but for now it's in the breakdown for “Feel It”. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to summer Down Under :) In celebration of it's approach, I've put together a delicious set of summer inspired house tracks and big room bangin' anthems. The set kicks off with three house infused tracks from Melanie Masson, 808 Beach and Sigala respectively. Sagi Kariv delivers a decidedly different sound for him on his track "Feel It" and the always amazing Division 4 puts his unique spin on Belly Dancer". Dirty (the man can do no wrong) Disco pumps out three awesome mixes for Gracie Abrams (daughter of director JJ Abrams) and Charli XCX as well as Kylie Minogue's new track "Lights Camera Action". So excited I've got tickets to see her in Sydney in March next year.  Wayne G. & Andy Allder turn Paul Hetherington's "Thrill Of The Chase" into a dance floor anthem. From here we move into big room/circuit territory with thumping club mixes of "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter, and "Disease" by Lady Gaga to close out the set. I found the horrific results of the USA election to be very off putting so I needed to focus on good vibes with this set. Coaching for Millennials: Career | Life | LinkedIn | Coaching Millennials in Discovering Their Life's Purpose & Achieve Succe

Episode 120: Overcoming Job Search Rejection Hey everyone, and welcome back to Coaching for Millennials where we talk about all things career, success, and navigating those tricky life transitions. Today, we're diving into a topic that I know so many people struggle with – and I've struggled with it myself – the overwhelming sense of rejection and frustration that comes with a difficult job search. If you feel like you've sent out hundreds of resumes, maybe gotten a few interviews, but those offers just don't seem to materialize, you're not alone. I'm going to break down exactly why job search rejection can be so soul-crushing, what you can do to manage the emotional side, and those actionable steps to improve your chances and stay in the game. Segment 1: Why Job Rejection Hurts So Bad Personalization: It's easy to feel that a rejection is a judgment of YOU, not just your skills or fit for the specific job. Loss of Control: The job search often feels like you aren't in the driver's seat, and that compounds when you're faced with rejection. Ego Bruising: Let's face it, your career is tied into your self-worth, and rejection can sting that pride. Segment 2: Coping Strategies for Rejection It's NOT personal (most of the time): Companies have countless reasons for not choosing you, many totally unrelated to your talent. Give Yourself Time to Feel: It's okay to be disappointed, even angry. Vent to a trusted friend, go for a run, scream into a pillow. Then, time to refocus. Focus on Controllables: You CAN'T control hiring decisions, but you CAN control the quality of your applications, your effort, your skills development. Small Wins Matter: Did you tailor a cover letter especially well? Celebrate it! Small wins keep your momentum alive. Segment 3: Staying Positive and Standing Out Targeted Applications: Quality over quantity, folks. Deeply research jobs that are a TRUE fit and customize your materials for each. Keywords are King: Your resume and cover letter must align with the job posting's lingo – they use software to scan these. Networking Power: It sounds old school, but real human connections matter. LinkedIn, professional groups, even informational interviews. The Skills Upgrade: Be honest – is there some training, software, or a relevant skill you could build to boost your appeal? Show Notes Action Items: Revisit Your Materials: Is your resume up-to-date and impactful? Does your cover letter clearly show why you're the ideal fit? Get ruthless editing here. Time Allocation: Set specific job search HOURS. Don't let it bleed into all your time and drain your energy Accountability Buddy: Find a friend on a similar path and check in on each other's progress. Positive Affirmation: "I am capable. I am worthy. The right opportunity is waiting for me." Don't let rejection define you. This is a hurdle you will absolutely jump over. Who's getting on your nerves lately? What was your last interaction with them like? Feel back into your body posture. How were you standing? How were you sitting? Where were you clenching? What emotion were you holding, tightly? I know it felt like that emotion had a hold on you, but it's always the other way around. Just as these thoughts that are not yours are always flowing through, and you're grasping at them, holding them, believing them, claiming them as who and what you are-- that emotion was just flowing through too.  With much practice, I found that I'm able to wake up in those moments of tightness, and just feel, just be with the tightness, without labeling it, without judging it, without giving it a cause, or trying to remedy it, trying to quell it. Sometimes I close my eyes on the interaction for a second, just to be with the feeling. The interaction is only happening so that you may feel that feeling finally and ask, "Is Love here, too? And feel That. Feel what's just beyond that strong, seemingly negative emotion. I feel My refuge. It's a mystery to me why people would take refuge in the outside world, in person, place or thing, when you know the outside world is subject to the law of change, and is never the same continuously. So whatever you take refuge in becomes a disappointment, whether it's a person, place or thing." -Robert Adams "What I am finding is that when I settle back into emptiness, tension in the physical and emotional body decreases, and that this can be done in the middle of a tense personal interaction. That is, when I find myself getting upset or uptight, the unpleasantness of that becomes a sort of Pavlovian trigger reminding me of the dimension of inwardness. I'm not sure I even have a choice at that moment. I just find myself back here. The disagreement may continue, but I am not nearly as compelled to defend or assert "my" side of it. Realize I'm talking about very mild forms of disharmony. There are obviously nightmares that won't be dissipated by a shift of perspective. But being empty may still be the sanest and safest (because fearless) stance to take in such a situation. Some time ago I read about the experience of a Tibetan monk who was tortured horrendously over a period of years in a Chinese jail. He said that he survived psychologically by taking refuge in the Void and praying for the salvation of all sentient beings. J. via Headless.org

Pretend you're standing in front of a window with a clear view out at a mountainous  forest.  It's a gorgeous day. The colors are vibrant and crisp.  Now, shift your attention to your reflection in the window.  The view is still there, but now it's in the background, and your reflection is in the foreground. Even if there was a war outside your window, it would be no more difficult to become aware of your reflection... of your innate Peace, that's also present.  No matter what's on view (and it is constantly changing!), don't lose sight of your Self. Don't forget Love.  Don't make the view and its alternating,  alluring beautiful and terrifying images more important than your awareness of Love.  Truly, only Love is here.  And you are That.  Feel It.  Be It.  I Love you, Nik nikki@curlynikki.com Support the show: ▶▶https://www.patreon.com/goodmornings Today's Quote: "At every moment, we are free to allow experience to veil our innate Peace or to remain transparent to it. In moments when you feel pressed, close your eyes, and let the Word(s), 'I can of my own self do nothing' direct you to the Nothing inside. Look at It. Hear It. Feel It. The No Thing that does Everything. Right in that Place that you're attending to now, that you're actually being now, is where you must come back to often during the day. You must retreat here for at least 1-2 minutes every hour. This is how you keep from breaking down. This is how you keep letting go. This is how Love lifts you. I Love you, Nik ******God is afoot! If you want best things, surrender to Lord Shriram." -Maharajji Even when it seems as if God isn't answering you, He is.  You may be looking for a simple yes or no, but God always faithfully answers: abide." -@Amy_klutinoty IG "As you place yourself in willful dependency on God, he will not disappoint you. In moments when you feel pressed to, and even beyond, your limits, do not panic, nor be afraid" "Do not fear vou will expire as vour resources become depleted, but understand these are the valuable moments in which you will begin to experience me. You will experience me in the times you are in greatest need, and it will shape you and mark you for the rest of your life. You will not forget these times because you will be desperate in your heart, mind, and circumstances. But know, though you are desperate you will not be disappointed, for you will not put your hope, trust, or dependence upon yourself, circumstances, or your resources, but upon me. (1) In this you will learn to move beyond your present limits. You will advance to the edge of your limits, but will encounter me in these limits and will begin to understand how to move beyond them. You will allow yourself to overcome, to understand, and to manifest and possess, what you previously could not. While this experience and process will certainly be uncomfortable, know it will grow you and produce good fruit in your life over the course of time." -Neil Vermillion "Think how it changes the nature of your prayer when you stop looking out or up. Close your eyes and gently, "Look down within," and feel. "Right here, closer to me than breathing, is the very source of everything I shall need in my outer life. There is even the "good pleasure" to give me the entire kingdom." -Joel Goldsmith, Consciousness Transformed "Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him, and if they were to allow His grace to mold them accordingly." -St. Ignatius Loyola

Someone asked me over the weekend what my main mantra is, and what their mantra should be.  This is my answer. ❤️ Note: the most powerful mantra is the one you chant and keep chanting.  The one that helps you keep recognizing the unbroken mantra of Silent-Love that's always, already here. Feel It, feel It, feel It, or hear It, hear It, hear It... hold on to the path you're on because it is your destiny and is leading you to your destiny. You've made it (!!!!), and you'll make it. That is where your real home is." - Sri Daya Mata "Thank God today for removing you from the situations that you weren't strong enough to remove yourself from... This is your real nature. Right now, not some time in the future. Not when you get enlightened. But right this minute. This is what you are. Why will you not accept it?  When you think about yourself, do you think you're a puny human that has to struggle for existence and fight for survival? As long as you believe this, that's the way it's going to be for you. But as soon as you accept the truth about yourself, that you are a delight, Divine Sat-Chit-Ananda, you will be free. You simply have to accept this. There are no rituals you have to go through. There are no prayers you have to chant. You simply have to awaken to your true nature, Pure Awareness, Nirvana, Bliss, Consciousness. This is what you are right at this moment." -Robert Adams ("Silence of the Heart") "The next chapter of my life is called... I  told y'all ___! Respectfully." -@Bigluvnhollywood via IG
