Welcome to The Apple Seed! Some time filled with stories for you and your family. Since 2013 we've been bringing you tall tales, personal tales, fairy tales, historical tales and more. All kinds of tales, from all kinds of tellers. When we're young, it feels like our youth will last forever. But, before we know it, youth has passed us by and the beginnings of age begin to set in. This is not a bad thing! All of the things that make life beautiful can only be learned as we grow and have new experiences. Sometimes, however, it's nice to be reminded of the child in us all. What better way to relive old memories than listen to great stories? On today's episode, enjoy the following: "The Pace of Youth" by Barry Stewart Mann from The Improbable Love of Ethel and Elmer and Other Offbeat Tales of Romance (4:22) "Ossein and the Isle of Tier na Nog" by Brian "Fox" Ellis from Under an Irish Oak (17:40) The Daily Mix: "Wicked Game" with Cielle Salazar (32:27) "The Grateful Statues" by Alton Chung from The Spider Weaver and Other Tales From Asia (40:06) Radio Family Journal: "Running" by Sam Payne (49:44)
Being tricked can be a pleasant or an unpleasant experience. For example, have you ever had a surprise party thrown in your honor? That can be a pleasant trick. Or if someone tricks you into thinking you're not getting the birthday gift you want, but lo and behold, you did get it. That's also pleasant. But a lot of tricks can be unpleasant too. Maybe a monster plays dead and tricks you into coming near only to gobble you up. Or maybe someone asks to borrow money with no intention of ever paying you back. That's pretty nasty. Maybe someone bonks you on the head to escape the punishment for their crimes. All of these unpleasant tricks actually take place in today's episode. We're excited to bring you tales from Heather Forest, Alton Chung, and others. Today's story takes place in China where Min-Yo and her village are facing a very serious problem that only the dragon on the moon can stop. How does one reach the Moon Dragon? Take the stairs, of course! But, the problem is that the staircase disappears from time to time and has grown delicate and thin, so one wrong step will send the climber falling a long, long way down. Although even those with a fear of heights have no need to worry, because Min-Yo has enough bravery for everybody. You'll also hear Alton Chung's "The Spider Weaver", as well as Laura Pershin Raynor's “A Day at the Zoo”, about how a typical day at the zoo with her sister devolved into a fun and crazy tale.
