In Hour 1… (1:52) Monday night provided an exciting one in the Association as the Minnesota Timberwolves overcame a 25-point deficit to take down Oklahoma City by a final score of 131-128. The guys get into last night's matchup, with GoJo catching up after going to bed early in the fourth quarter. They discuss how impressive of a comeback it was, and what it could mean for the Oklahoma City Thunder going forward. (11:29) Perhaps the biggest news out of the NBA on Tuesday - Luka Doncic will face his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, as they travel to take on the Los Angeles Lakers. Mike and Mike discuss what they're expecting from tonight's matchup, and how Dallas will respond against their former star player. (20:13) Discussed a little on Monday, the guys dive back into the current situation regarding LA Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who has openly been placed in trade discussions this offseason. With many different teams in the running, such as the Browns, Giants, Steelers and Raiders, where will the former World Champion QB be playing under center as the 2025 season kicks off? (34:14) Green Bay has been in the news this week as their president Mark Murphy has been vocal about banning the “Tush Push” play, heavily utilized by the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. Junior and Senior discuss their thoughts (Spoiler Alert: they still like the play), and what they think, if anything, the league should do to combat the play this offseason. (44:08) The guys transition into a conversation surrounding the current state of the Dallas Cowboys, and how they will be “selectively aggressive” this offseason. There's been speculation the Cowboys are planning on tanking this upcoming season after hiring HC Brian Schottenheimer, but will the Cowboys actually take his tenure seriously, or is this just smoke to help them prepare for the 2026 season? (49:00) Jessie Coffield discusses brief notes coming out of the NFL Combine, headlined by Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty electing to skip the 2025 event. It's payback time. Odysseus at last throws off his disguise and wages holy war on the men who tore up his house and home for ten years, in what is still one of the most metal sequences in all of world literature. Does he go too far? Lots of people think so--but I don't. I think he gets right up to the brink and then, in a key moment that brings the hero's journey to its close, his son pulls him back from the brink. After that it's really all over but the shouting--and a little husband-wife trickery--before we bring this journey to a close. On deck: (6:36) I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the soldiers, servicemen and women in our country, fighting for our nation and protecting our freedom here on this Veteran's Day. (7:01) We're now ten weeks into the NFL season, finally past the halfway mark. I'll express the good, bad and ugly of what has transpired over the first two plus months of the year. Has it been a season to remember at this point? I'll recap all of the action of the weekend, including a big Steelers win in Washington. The Lions getting out of Houston alive with a victory. And the Chiefs are still unbeaten. (34:22) College football continues to surprise as there were more upsets on Saturday. Did Georgia take a severe hit to their playoff chances losing at Ole Miss? What about Miami upended at Georgia Tech? You know LSU is out after suffering a blowout defeat at home vs. Alabama. And BYU survives after a controversial call to stay unbeaten and in the mix to qualify for the 12 team playoff next month. How will the committee dissect this after Saturday's games? (46:13) Don't look now, but the NBA In Season Tournament begins tomorrow! Will yours truly get wrapped up over the next month with the culmination in Las Vegas? What has gone on with the Milwaukee Bucks? The free fall continues, but this falls on one person as to why they're a far cry from the championship level team of a few years ago. I'll check on what else is going on in the Association before pivoting to… (58:02)…the latest on the ice. The Winnipeg Jets have set an NHL record for the best start to a season ever. They're on pace for 77 wins. Can they keep this up? Alex Ovechkin scored two more goals to leave him 32 away from surpassing The Great One all time in the history of the sport. I'll peek on how other teams are faring after the first month of the season. (1:03:40) The MLB hot stove has cooled off a bit. Although there is one glaring question surrounding the most coveted free agent, Juan Soto. Are there any other teams besides the Yankees & Mets that will entertain discussions with the slugging outfielder? Plus, a new manager surfaces in Miami and a familiar one comes back in The Bronx, but is a lame duck heading into 2025. Elizabeth I of England and Ireland reigned for 45 years over a golden age of peace, prosperity and flourishing art and culture. And she shocked the medieval world by doing it all without a man. In the last episode we met the suitors of her youth, whose ambitions twice landed Elizabeth in the tower. At her coronation Elizabeth declared that she was married to her kingdom and would live and die a virgin. But nobody believed her. Today we'll meet the English lords and foreign royals who fell over themselves in their attempts to win the Queen's hand. Through it all, one man, Robert Dudley remained by her side. They break down the “big game” with the obligatory overtime strategy talk before getting into the “going forward” for both teams. Is this as bad as the Chiefs' offense is going to get? Can the 49ers possibly be as healthy and efficient in 2024? Is Travis Kelce no longer the clear-cut No. 1 tight end? They then follow up on some Super Bowl week interviews by pondering whether Breece Hall is a candidate for the No. 1 overall pick, if Puka Nacua should be drafted ahead of Cooper Kupp, and where free-agent-to-be Tony Pollard might end up. In a recorded jailhouse phone call, Susan Smith, the inmate serving a life sentence for drowning her two sons, discussed her thoughts on motherhood and parole prospects with one of her suitors. As her first parole hearing approaches, Smith faces both opposition from her former husband and offers of support from admirers. As the date for her first parole hearing, scheduled for November 4, 2024, draws near, Susan Smith, the infamous South Carolina inmate convicted of murdering her two young sons, Michael Daniel Smith, 3, and Alexander Tyler Smith, 14 months, has recently made headlines again. Transcripts of a recorded jailhouse phone call from Leath Correctional Institution last month have revealed Smith's contemplation of motherhood and potential parole prospects. In the recorded conversation, Smith, now 52 years old, told one of several suitors, "I could see myself around kids," sparking a conversation about her future role as a stepmother. The suitor responded positively, saying, "You'd be great, babe." The Messenger obtained these transcripts, shedding light on Smith's thoughts as her parole hearing approaches. Smith's notoriety stems from her 1994 conviction for the murder of her two sons. Initially, she claimed that a carjacker, described as a Black man, had taken her vehicle with her children inside. A nationwide search ensued, and Smith tearfully pleaded for their safe return on national television. However, it was later revealed that Smith had intentionally allowed her car to roll into John D. Long Lake, with her sons strapped into their car seats. One of Smith's former suitors, Tom Findalay, had penned a letter that prosecutors argued played a role in driving her to commit the heinous act. In the letter, Findalay expressed concerns about Smith's children, leading to speculation about her motives. Smith, on the other hand, has long maintained that she did not drown her children for a man's sake but rather suffered a psychotic breakdown. Relatives of Smith have revealed that men have always been drawn to her, even during her time behind bars. One relative commented, "She's always been into guys, obviously. It would be the best case scenario for her, to be in a relationship. So she's hoping to find the right man to live with if she gets out." This revelation comes as Smith's first parole hearing approaches, where she plans to request her release. However, her former husband, David Smith, who had stood by her side during the fruitless search for their children and at their funerals, remains vehemently opposed to her release. A relative of David Smith stated, "David still thinks of his boys every day and doesn't ever want Susan to get out. She belongs in jail… she is exactly where she needs to be – in prison. And we will do what it takes to keep her there." Amidst the polarizing views on her release, Smith's suitors have been actively offering support. Some have offered her money, a place to stay upon parole, and even the prospect of building a future together. One suitor expressed, "She's a good person who did something terrible when she was young and not in her right mind – people can change." These suitors are vying to assist her post-release. Smith's life behind bars has not been devoid of controversy. Reports have emerged of an illicit sexual relationship with a prison guard, as well as incidents of marijuana use and self-mutilation in her disciplinary record. When not engaging with prospective post-release lovers, Smith often discusses her potential parole with friends and family, seeking advice on how to present her case to the Parole Board. In a recorded phone call, a friend named Ruth advised Smith to frame her case around the possibility of postpartum depression, which can last up to three years after childbirth. "Prepare now what you will say when you're given the chance to speak at your parole," Ruth advised. "It won't be easy." As Susan Smith's first parole hearing date looms, the public remains divided on whether she should be granted parole or continue to serve her life sentence for the tragic and shocking crime that has haunted the nation for nearly three decades.
