David Priess is the chief operating officer of the Lawfare Institute. He is also a former CIA briefer for the Attorney General and the FBI director, and he's the author of "The President's Book of Secrets: The Untold Story of Intelligence Briefings to America's Presidents." The president's daily brief has been in the news of late because of the Russia bounties story and the question of whether President Trump is actually internalizing the intelligence he is given in his daily briefing. Benjamin Wittes spoke with David about the history of the president's daily brief, how different presidents have gotten intelligence information and whether President Trump's behavior in this regard is exceptional or not.
On November 9th, 2016 -- the day after Donald Trump became America's President-elect -- the Dear Sugar inbox was flooded with emails asking some version of the question, "How do we move forward as a nation from here?" In this episode, the Sugars bring that question before an audience at The Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon. This episode was originally released on January 20th, 2017.
My fellow Americans, it's time for Episode 45 of The Crazy Comedy, Humor & Satire Podcast! Coincidentally, "45" is also the number of Presidents we're on in America and, depending on which side of the political extreme you're on, either the best or the worst of America's Presidents. In this episode, we discuss how to blame all your problems on the President (or on the other political party, if your side's in the White House). We also compare anti-vaping commercials to the anti-drug commercials we knew and loved in the 1980s. If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to the podcast, so that you don't miss any future crazy comedy from Daniel D! #comedy #humor #satire #podcast #drugcommercials
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” - That's what JFK said at his inaugural speech as America's President in 1961. "Stand at your doors, windows and balconies and beat your plates, and ring your bells to thank those providing essential services during this crisis," and that's what PM Modi said on 19 March 2020, while addressing the nation about the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus of his speech? Three key points - A ‘janta curfew’ on 22 March, the constitution of an Economic Task Force to tackle the fallout of the coronavirus and the measures Indians need to take to stop the spread of COVID-19. At a time like this, when the country is doing what it can to battle this unprecedented crisis, will the PM’s address to the nation serve to boost morale? Or was it missing some important points? Here we find out. The answer of course to the question posed in the title of this podcast is Greta Thunberg, the extraordinary young Scandinavian leader who has delivered the message that the climate crisis is real and urgent better than any world leader. America's president is a source of particular contempt for her as their recent passing encounter at the UN revealed. We discuss her impact, his impact, and the other big issues likely to be discussed in and around the UN General Assembly meetings this week in New York. Join Rosa Brooks of Georgetown Law School, Kori Schake of IISS and Max Bergmann of the Center for American Progress for a scintillating and timely discussion. As our culture grows increasingly darker, Arthelene Rippy believes Trump is the change agent we need. In fact, of all the presidents she can remember, none compare to Trump and what he's accomplished. Not too long ago, host Stephen Strang had the pleasure of appearing on Rippy's show, Homekeepers. The Christian Television Network host interviewed Steve about his book, Trump Aftershock. Listen to hear more.

My guest today is former CIA analyst and daily intelligence briefer Dr. David Priess, and he talks about his new book The President's Book of Secrets: The Untold Story of Intelligence Briefings to America's Presidents from Kennedy to Obama. Today he’ll talk about the history of the top secret document, how it’s tailored to each President’s taste, and the massive intelligence bureaucracy that goes into publishing what is essentially a highly classified daily newspaper created just for one customer. We talk about the daily briefers like David who personally deliver “the book” every morning and discuss the most sensitive national security developments with the most powerful man in the world. We also discuss the intelligence briefs that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are now getting as candidates and which President’s had preference for gossip about the bedroom antics of fellow world leaders in the daily brief. SPY Executive Director Peter Earnest sat down with former CIA intelligence officer, manager, and daily intelligence briefer David Priess to discuss his new book centered on the President’s Daily Brief (PDB). Every living former President and Vice President, along with most former CIA Directors, Secretaries of State and Defense, National Security Advisors, White House Chiefs of Staff, and senior intelligence leaders, shared with Priess their personal stories about the PDB. And by digging through both the extensive files of the Presidential libraries and millions of pages of declassified CIA raw intelligence reports, analytic assessments, and memos—Priess emerges with a unique—and fascinating—look into the most tightly controlled document in modern world.
