It's a full house on this episode of #BTLRadioShow thanks to our two very special guests - MARK PELLINGTON talking his new film THE SEVERING and JOY VILLA talking THE CONTRAST! MARK PELLINGTON joins us at the top of the show to talk about his new film THE SEVERING which makes its 2022 debut at Slamdance Film Festival, running from January 27 through February 6, 2022. THE SEVERING is the best of two worlds from Mark as this is an experimental feature dance film that captures and evokes emotion and feelings through movement. As many may know, Mark is not only an acclaimed feature film director but also an award-winning music video director. THE SEVERING melds those disciplines with powerful imagery of dance (and color) that tells its own story, something unique and different that I found enthralling on watching. Take a listen as Mark and I dive deep into THE SEVERING and its visual power of body movement in translating the emotion of grief and the exploration into the journey of working through that grief and coming out on the other side, and how that is brought to life in the construct of THE SEVERING through the work of choreographer Nina McNeely, body painter Blake Armstrong, and cinematographer Evelin Van Rei. And then hold on to your hats as Grammy winner, YouTube sensation, and actor JOY VILLA, joins us talking about her new film THE CONTRAST. One of the most unique progenies for a film, THE CONTRAST is a contemporary adaptation by Chris Johnson of the very first professionally produced play in America, Royall Tyler's 1787 play "The Contrast." Regular #BTLRadioShow listeners will recall that Chris was on the show in June and gave us some tidbits on THE CONTRAST at that time, so I am so thrilled to now have seen the film and speak with the film's lead actress and executive producer JOY VILLA about it. A romcom that boasts charm, humor, and heart, with some very cool nods to the play's Colonial roots, Joy is a breath of fresh air and quite frankly, a joy to watch! Not just a producing title on the credits, Joy was very hands on in the production and the process of bringing THE CONTRAST to the screen and speaks not only to her character and the story, but delves into the script and working with Chris Johnson in developing the tone and modernization of the character, casting and chemistry, cinematography and working within the confines of the bed & breakfast location, incorporating the history of Colonial America into the production design, directors Sean Dube and Presley Paras, Joy's musical contribution with two tracks for the film, skeet shooting and so much more. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
BILLBOARD Artist, Actress, Singer-song writer and Executive Producer, Joy Villa joins JUST TALKING to talk about her latest film—The Contrast. Joy plays Maria, who on the day before her wedding to a hipster playboy meets an Army Colonel, and struggles to decide between obligation and love. The Contrast was adapted from Royall Tyler's 1787 stage play but 235+ years later has society really changed? What attracted Joy to the character Maria? When writer/producer Chris Johnson says you're the perfect Maria—you take the role! Wait! Was that Joy Villa in Hero's from back in the day? In the early days Joy got some industry push back because of her tats, unique style and attitude — “you need to be like everyone else—commercial.” Joy's response, “I'll come back to the industry when the industry is ready for me!” And she IS ready! The Contrast has millennial jokes, contemporary style and handsome men for the ladies. BUT it also addresses an existential life question—do I please my family and society or go with my heart? The Contrast is a millennial romantic comedy. It's relatable and fun. In 2017 Joy's “I Make The Static” made it to #1 on iTunes and Amazon music—“every voice should be heard.” There's a voice that sings to us, reminds us to be open to all walks of life and brings us nothing but “Joy.” Watch The Contrast on Amazon Prime January 18th 2022.

The loathsome John McCain criticizes President Trump from foreign soil. Why is this Deep State Denizen worrying about Dictatorship? -Pat did not watch the Grammys. Perhaps he would have, but alas he didn't. Stu and Jeff give their reviews of the main event and share how their opinions of musicians expressing their political views differ from those of actors doing the same.-The people bowed down before Beyonce, paid their respects to George Michael and Al Jarreau, and were wowed by a pro-Trump artist looking to boost her album sales. Joy Villa came out in a dress featuring “Make America Great Again” and, of course, Hollywood appropriately went bananas.-New Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos went to speak at a public school in Washington, D.C. and was blocked from entering the building by a crazed man yelling “shame”. Should she have been allowed to run him down with her car? The guys seem to think she should have.-All cool things come from the Philippines, including burgers with a bun shaped like a pair of Lego bricks. The guys could see this catching on. -It turns out that Hezbollah loves the idea of Donald Trump being America's president! The Lebanese group, which is considered a terrorist organization by the West, claimed that “The world will benefit” and that their group is much stronger and should not be concerned with threats from the West. Pat, Stu, and Jeff agree that, if you want Trump to leave you alone, you probably shouldn't tweet at him.-New polls show that the divide is very wide between people who believe the news media is truthful and people who believe the Trump Administration is truthful. Very high percentages of Democrats believe Trump and his people are dishonest, while high percentages of Republicans are inclined to believe what the White House is saying.-White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had an absolutely brutal interview with Breitbart News. The guys have a good laugh at his expense.-What impact does Trump's executive order on immigration really have? It's not that radical, not even close to what Trump referenced during the campaign, and a few months of pause is completely in line with making adjustments to the vetting process. The only major question left is, will it be just a pause?-People are continuing to say mean things about Meryl Streep. She responded by saying that she is the most “overrated, decorated, and berated" woman in Hollywood. Stu goes off about the kind of movies she routinely appears in, and questions why we Americans love them so much.-Saturday Night Live has taken to mocking Kellyanne Conway with a parody of Fatal Attraction. Was it funny or in poor taste? Pat and Stu question who the program would have to mock if the liberals were in power?-Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids have reportedly arrested hundreds of illegal immigrants who have committed major crimes. The guys are unsure which reports are accurate in regards to whether most of those arrested were felons or if all of them were felons.-Pat, Stu, and Jeffy discuss the Yale Whiffenpoofs, a massive mens capella choir from the Ivy League university. Despite boasting over 1500 members, the group adds only a handful of members each year. And while they do allow women to audition, they are not allowed to join.-Pat did not watch the Grammys.
