Alex and Kate discuss 2010's The Myth of the American Sleepover and whether TV and movies actually do a good job depicting coming of age for anybody, let alone teens from different backgrounds.

It Follows, a supernatural horror film, is his 2014 follow-up. This week we revisit three more of our previous episodes! Ben completely reevaluates his take on American Pickle, Allen pitches a much better version of an American Assassin adaptation, and both of your patriotic co-hosts look back fondly on The Myth of the American Sleepover and their days as teenagers sneaking into R-rated movies.
From the director of "It Follows" and the producer of "Moonlight"—before either of them made those films—comes a sweet and low-key all-in-one-night coming-of-age story. We discuss the magic of small-town America and the innocence, awkwardness, and clumsiness of being a teenager. (recorded October 8, 2020)

We kick off our last week of movies selected by our Patreon supporter Darren with Myth of the American Sleepover, the 2010 coming-of-age film from the director of It Follows (so maybe there's a murder?). Amy Seimetz started out writing, directing, and acting in short films and made her feature debut in a pair of films, Black Dragon Canyon and the indie cult hit Wristcutters: A Love Story. She appeared in films such as Gabi on the Roof in July, Tiny Furniture, You're Next, and The Myth of the American Sleepover before directing her own feature debut, Sun Don't Shine in 2012. Amy went on to co-create and executive produce the critically acclaimed Starz series The Girlfriend Experience. In 2018, Amy directed two episodes of the acclaimed FX series Atlanta and subsequently signed a first look television production development deal with the network. But yes, she continued acting throughout that time as well, and you’ve seen her in Upstream Color, Alien: Covenant, The Killing, Stranger Things, Wild Nights with Emily, and Pet Sematary. But the movie that Amy chose to discuss has nothing to do with any of that! She's chosen The Peanut Butter Solution, a Canadian children's movie from the eighties that most people thought they dreamed up. April and Amy dissect the crazy plot and how something this unconventional could be made for children. Amy discusses working on her debut Sun Don't Shine, collaborating with Hiro Murai and Donald Glover on Atlanta, and being directed by Madeleine Olnek on Wild Nights with Emily. Plus, they ponder the lessons on creative freedom that can be learned from children's films and how it's sometimes best to not think logically. You can check out Pet Sematary and Wild Nights with Emily in theaters now. If you haven't seen it yet, go watch The Peanut Butter Solution. With April Wolfe and Amy Seimetz. Pred kratkim nas je okužil skrivnostni virus navdušenja nad indie grozljivko Zlo za petami (It Follows, 2014). Pred njim je posnel še film The Myth of the American Sleepover (2010), ki skorajda deluje kot nekakšen prequel […]

Movie Meltdown - Episode 135 This week's version of "The Caffeinated Movie Geek", makes us examine our own teenage years and romantic endeavors as we discuss the indie feature "The Myth of the American Sleepover". Plus while we crossover into the age of enlightenment as we drink coffee all day, we also mention…wanting to be Sherlock Holmes, Freaks and Geeks, taking over the Earth, working in an ice factory, Dawson’s Creek, Monopoly without being Monopoly, Skyline, My So-Called Life, I believe he may be the only guy who switched twins, Cold Weather and your mom breaking up with your boyfriend. Spoiler Alert: Spoilers for all those awkward teenage moments (both in our lives AND this week‘s movie). “This is the one-sheet poster child for indie movies.”
