Watch This Episode On YouTubeIt takes a really special filmmaker to write, act, direct, produce their debut feature film. Well, let's go to Western Canada to find out in Caitlyn Sponheimer, the dynamo behind the film WILD GOAT SURF (2023), which had its US premiere in the beginning of April. If it was my dream world, it would open in a thousand theaters, but look for it on streaming on May 20th.In this episode, Caitlyn and I discuss:she does everything in her latest film -- acting, directing, writing, producing -- how did she get started? "I wasn't being seen for the type of roles I wanted to be seen for"; "I just kept making stuff";why don't more actors make that jump to writing and directing?her path to feature filmmaking. It started with an indelibly titled short, KITTY'S NAUGHTY KNICKERS (2019) and followed the supposed "path" for indie filmmakers. Does she wish it was different?the incredible cinematography, writing, acting -- everything -- in her film WILD GOAT SURF;the brilliance of Shayelin Martin, the protagonist in the film, and how she found such an incredible actress;how Caitlyn eventually decided to act in the film and what that means for indie filmmaking and casting -- "it's a balance of names...and budget"; "it has to be an actor I want to work with and respect so much...not just a name";the mission of her production company, CouKuma Productions, to empower female voices and how that can be tested in the casting process;how she decided on the release strategy for WILD GOAT SURF, including getting picked up by Tribeca Studios;how should indie filmmakers look at Canada as a film market?what's next for this brilliantly talented filmmaker?Caitlyn's Indie Film Highlight: SHE DIES TOMORROW (2020) dir. by Amy Seimetz; THE WOLVES (2019) dir. by Samuel Kishi; VIOLENT (2014) dir. by Andrew Huculiak and cinematography by Joseph SchweersLinks:Follow Caitlyn On InstagramSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/first-time-go/exclusive-content

Happy Monday, Goons, and welcome to our Last of AugUSt month, where we discuss the last or final entry of a popular horror franchise! This week, Mikey & Ade review 2017's Alien: Covenant (trying to squeeze this in before the Alien Romulus release). This film is the sequel to 2012's Prometheus, and both are directed by Ridley Scott, who brought us the very first Alien (1979). This installment follows a crew of spouses on a colony ship, who are abruptly awakened and eventually travel to a planet on a rescue mission, only for terror to ensue. Starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, with appearances from Guy Pearce (not Richie), Noomi Rapace and James Franco, the film definitely has its ups and downs. What did you think of this one? Are you excited for Romulus? Listen in and let us know your thoughts in the comments! The film is currently streaming on Hulu, if you'd like to rewatch ahead of time. Ladies and gentlemen, The Weeknd. To celebrate - 'celebrate' - the first anniversary of one of the defining pop star ego trips of our age, Graham and Robyn have reconvened to look at all six - no, wait, all five - episodes of Sam Levinson's disasterpiece. If you're wondering why we won't get a third season of Euphoria until the cast are in a retirement home, forget the writer's strike - this is why. From the twisted minds of Robyn and Graham, please enjoy discussion of: the Weeknd's remarkable anti-charisma and his future acting plans that will definitely, definitely happen, the troubled production of this show and the Amy Seimetz cut we'll never see, The Idol's strained relationship with queerness, its downright nonexistent relationship with modern pop, and much much more. Worth listening this week just for the Jojo Siwa joke, frankly. Our exclusives are about something even more interesting than LA club owners nobody's ever heard of - classic Asian genre cinema, Red Dwarf, cult film franchises, Doctor Who, The X-Files, and whatever the hell our critics have been watching in the last month. #theidol #lilyrosedepp #theweeknd The Idol is an American drama television series created by Sam Levinson, Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim. The series focuses on an aspiring pop idol (Lily-Rose Depp) and her complex relationship with a self-help guru and cult leader Tedros (Tesfaye). Appearing in supporting roles are Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria. The series also marks the final television appearance of Anne Heche, who died on August 11, 2022. Development on the series began in June 2021 when Tesfaye announced that he would be creating, executive producing and co-writing a drama series for HBO alongside Fahim and Levinson. Joseph Epstein and Amy Seimetz were attached to serve as writer-showrunner and director, respectively. Seimetz's initial approach on the project was that of a troubled starlet falling victim to a predatory industry figure and fighting to reclaim her own agency. Depp was cast to play the female lead opposite Tesfaye in September 2021, with the remaining cast announced between November 2021 and July 2022. Much of series was filmed when Levinson took over directing duties after Seimetz exited the project amid its production delay and creative overhaul in April 2022. Levinson scrapped Seimetz's work and production resumed in May 2022 in a different direction. Principal photography occurred in Los Angeles and Bel Air. The Idol began airing on HBO and Max on June 4, 2023. Its first two episodes premiered in May 2023, at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with unfavorable reviews from critics for its sexual content, themes, script, and direction. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message

A cannes-i filmfesztivál hagyományosan bemutat minden évben egy-egy nagy dobásnak ígérkező tévéprodukciót a hivatalos programjában. Idén az HBO júniusban érkező botránysorozata, Az idol (The Idol) című kapott versenyen kívüli gálavetítést. A problémák a férfi főszereplő, az egészen pár nappal ezelőttig a The Weeknd néven futó popsztár, Abel Tesfaya feltűnésével kezdődnek.
Cade and Harrison are joined by artist Spencer Plumlee to discuss two indie science fiction films: Under the Skin (2013) and Upstream Color (2013). Watch the video version at: YouTube.com/@CadeThomas/streams Check out Spencer Plumlee's artwork here: https://www.spencerplumleeart.com/ Double Feature Movie Club is a weekly movie review show with a retro vibe. Two movies. Three people. One rambling conversation. Each film is our first time watching them. We often go off-topic. Under the Skin is a 2013 science fiction film directed by Jonathan Glazer and written by Glazer and Walter Campbell, loosely based on the 2000 novel by Michel Faber. It stars Scarlett Johansson as an otherworldly woman who preys on men in Scotland. Upstream Color is a 2013 American experimental science fiction film written, directed, produced by, and starring Shane Carruth. The film is the second feature directed by Carruth, following his 2004 debut Primer. It stars Amy Seimetz, Carruth, Andrew Sensenig, and Thiago Martins. In the film, the behaviors of two people are unwittingly affected by a complex parasite that has a three-stage life cycle.

Stephen Soderbergh, the director of Out of Sight, Ocean's 11, Erin Brockovich, Magic Mike, and too many other notable films to list directs this HBO Max movie with an amazing cast including Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, David Harbour, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Julia Fox, Ray Liotta, and quite a few others! He has returned to the crime genre focusing on an absurdly twisted heist taking place in 1950's Detroit with no shortage of twists and double-crosses. Does one of our greatest living directors still have the chops? Find out with my latest review! Host: Geoff Gershon Producer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/
"No Sudden Move" is the latest film from Steven Soderbergh (and is now streaming on HBO Max) that starts with a simple crime and evolves into something much bigger. Actress Amy Seimetz plays Mary Wertz, the wife of Matt Wertz (played by David Harbour), who ends up at the center of a babysitting job for three armed criminals. At the same time, her husband attempts to retrieve a document from his boss for the dangerous men, but of course, things don't go as planned. Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. This week is a two-part episode, with a special interview. First I chat with the one and only Amy Taubin about our recent viewing, starting with the new Steven Soderbergh movie, No Sudden Move, a highlight of the summer. We also cherry-pick a couple of films from festivals, Courtroom 3H and Souad. And looking at the big picture, we celebrate online programs like Another Screen. And then the grand finale: I chat with No Sudden Move star, actor-writer-director Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience, She Dies Tomorrow, Pet Sematary). Seimetz plays Mary, an executive's wife held hostage by criminals (played by Don Cheadle and company)who are putting the squeeze on her husband. The Nose is worried about movie theaters. The pandemic has done such damage to the industry that Hollywood has started treating the U.S. as a second-run market. And now the Paramount Consent Decrees have ended. (We're not exactly sure what that means, but it's not good.) Is the future of movie theaters... Walmart drive-ins? M: Director Michael Ventura documented the making of Love Streams in the doc “I'm Almost Not Crazy…” (a great bit of dialogue delivered by Gena Rowlands in the film) More so than any of his other films, and perhaps underlined by Cassavete's health, Love Streams echoes back to and mirrors many of his previous films.
