Despite using safety precautions when meeting a date from the ever popular app Tinder, Sydney Loofe was not prepared for what was to happen the night of November 15, 2017. Her date, Audrey, had spent some time gaining Sydney's trust and that night and convinced her to meet at her apartment. Unfortunately, Audrey was not who she claimed to be. Audrey was actually Bailey Boswell, a woman in her twenties who had lured several women into a cult created by her much older boyfriend, Aubrey Trail. This time was different though. Instead of luring Sydney into a fantasy sex scandal revolving around vampires and witches, they lured her to their apartment with the intention of killing her. Tune in as Savannah shares the gruesome details of how and why these two decided murder was the ultimate goal and Elysia dies on the hill that romantic relationships like this should not exist though she's too flabbergasted to concisely state it's because of the imbalance of perceived power. We have all heard of the horror stories surrounding dating apps, yet thousands of people use them everyday. If you are one of those people that actively use dating apps, you should remember a few key rules, always go on a date in public, always tell someone where you are going, and who you are going with, and when to expect you to be home, and never go somewhere private with someone that you have never met before.

Aubrey Trail's defense attorneys argued the sentence was unconstitutional. The justices disagreed, noting the using a three-judge panel emphasizes the rule of law over the personal opinions of jurors. The Court also rejected claims the judge should have declared a mistrial.
Late Edition: Crime Beat Chronicles is a show that shares true crime stories through readings of newspaper articles and interviews with the journalists who reported on the stories. This is the fifth and final episode of the series, so you should jump back to part one and get up to speed if you need to, making sure not to skip the bonus episode interview with Lincoln Journal Star reporter Lori Pilger about her coverage of the trial as it was happening as well as the present state of Trail's appeal to the State Supreme Court. For this set of episodes we'll be traveling to Wilber, Nebraska, where, in November of 2017, 24-year-old Sydney Loofe left work to go on a second date with someone she met on a dating app, and she never came home. The events that followed centered around Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell, who were eventually convicted in the case, and were bizarre in the way they unfolded on social media and in the courtroom. The Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald covered the story as it broke and navigated the circus-like atmosphere that developed in the courtroom and in conversations with Aubrey Trail. The articles are linked below and if you appreciate what we're doing with this program, we encourage you to invest in local journalism and support whichever newspaper serves your community. Too often in crime stories the victim gets lost in the shuffle. Sydney Loofe was not there to tell her story during the search for her killers. Salacious details unearthed during the trial and subsequent sentencing dominated headlines. Those stories and revelations were newsworthy, certainly, but they're less about the victim than the perpetrators. Sydney Loofe, like many 24 year old women, was using a dating app to meet people. Although she was extra cautious when meeting strangers, it didn't stop her date, Bailey Boswell from faking her identity, posing under the alias "Audrey" and luring Sydney in to a twisted trap of torture with Bailey's murderer boyfriend, Aubrey Trail. Lauren Smith-Fields was a vibrant and ambitious 23 year old woman who loved matcha tea, working out and was studying to be a physical therapist. In December 2021, she met a man off the dating app, Bumble. Lauren invited the man to her apartment in Bridgeport, CT, where they had some tequila and watched a movie. During the evening, Lauren left the apartment for 10-15 minutes to meet someone outside. When she came back in, they continued watching a movie and Lauren fell asleep on the couch. Her Bumble date alleges that he carried her to bed and he then fell asleep beside her. When he woke up at 6.30am, Lauren was not breathing and she had blood coming out of her nose. He called 911 and was said by police to be “frantic, trembling, and visibly shaken.” When authorities arrived, Lauren was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into Lauren's death has been botched from the start. Lauren's family have said that: Lauren's Bumble date was not taken into custody and questioned because he seemed like a ‘nice guy', according to police. They were not informed by authorities about Lauren's death. They had to find out by going to her apartment when they could not get in touch with her. There they found a note on the door from the landlord, and that is how they learned their daughter had passed away. Police treatment of the family has been horrible. Police officers who were initially working the case have been taken off it, and an investigation into their conduct is being carried out by Internal Affairs. No forensic examination of Lauren's apartment was conducted until the family stepped in. When Lauren's family went to clear out her apartment, they found a used condom, an unidentified pill, as well as bloody sheets, that had not been taken into evidence. An autopsy was conducted and the Medical Examiner has determined that Lauren died from a drug overdose of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine, and alcohol. Lauren's family are adamant that she was not a drug user. Because fentanyl was found in Lauren's system, Bridgeport PD opened the investigation which will be conducted by the Narcotics and Vice Division with assistance by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Both these women died after meeting people on dating apps. Warriena fell 14 floors to her death after she was allegedly locked on a balcony by a man she met on Tinder. Sydney was brutally murdered by a couple, Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail, after she met Bailey on Tinder. Sydney was dismembered and her body was hacked into 14 pieces. Part one is about the “Tinder Murder” of 24 year old, Sydney Loofe. Sydney was lured into a web of deceit by two crooks, 51 year old Aubrey Trail, and his 23 year old girlfriend, Bailey Boswell, and was subsequently murdered and dismembered by the two. This episode just goes to show you, “you just never know...” In part two, we discuss the eery similarities in the Atlanta cold cases of Mary Shotwell Little (who vanished without a trace) and the murder of Diane Shields. Both women worked at the same bank, and even shared the same roommates. 50 plus years later, neither case has been solved.
A West Virginia woman who married her father after they tortured and killed her boyfriend in 2019 pleads guilty to murder. The victim was beaten with a wine bottle, injected with meth, and strangled with a garbage bag. Plus, updates on Nebraska’s Sydney Loofe case, whose body parts were found scattered along country roads after she went on a second date in 2017. Criminal defense attorney Danielle Iredale joins us. Aubrey Trail has been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Sydney Loofe. The 24 year old woman was on a date she planned through Tinder, but was murdered and dismembered by Trail and his girlfriend. During his trial, Trail slit his own throat in the court room and is now using that action to demand a new trial. Joining Nancy Grace to discuss the case, Forensics expert Joseph Scott Morgan, Psychologist Caryn Stark, Attorney Jason Oshins and reporter Dave Mack.
We survived our family vacation! We're back home and trying to get back to reality. This week Carly covers the very recent murder of Sydney Loofe and her slayer(s) Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail. Dani gets a recommendation from friends and covers the survivor Sabine Dardenne. She also talks about the entire Marc Dutroux case and the impacts it had on Belgium. She spent so many hours researching this sicko, she gets pretty emotional about it.If you have any personal slay or survive (SOS) stories please send them to Slayorsurvive@gmail.com. We'd love to read them on a future episode. Follow us on social media - IG, Twitter, Facebook - at SlayorSurvive. Please also subscribe, rate, and review us.
