Your favourite DJ's favourite punk band are back, and they've brought the sweat with them. There was a Young Band from the Paradise Palms, Who played with such fury it rattled your arms, They grooved like the ESG, bit like The Slits, And drove Windmill Brixton completely to bits! “O come to our Party!” cried Bikini Body, “It's perfectly sweaty and pleasantly shoddy! The bassline is punching, the drumming is tight, And everyone's dancing till quarter to light!” So they packed up the Palms and they played BBC, And KEXP and Radio 6 and NTS and free, And the dancefloor said “Goodness!” and the basement said “More!” And nobody quite knew what a party was for. Bikini Body return with the Weirdest Party EP, their first release on Paradise Palms Records following two records on Optimo Music – a pairing that did a lot to define both their trajectory and their restless, hybrid sound. This new set pushes further into the territory they've made their own: the charged, uneasy space where dancefloor pressure and punk confrontation refuse to separate. Percussive, physical and wired with attitude, the tracks draw a lineage that runs from ESG and Liquid Liquid through Bush Tetras, The Slits and X-Ray Spex, with the remixes opening things out for club systems without sanding off a single rough edge. It's music that works equally hard in a sweaty basement and on a packed dancefloor – which, given a 13-date UK co-headline tour ending in a sold-out London show, a packed Windmill Brixton headline, and airplay across BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, KEXP and NTS, appears to be exactly where people are putting it. Weirdest Party EP is out on Paradise Palms Records on 22nd May 2026. Catch them live on our stage at Another Thought on 13th June.
The Dandy Warhols, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard, The Slits et Linkin Park viennent parfaire cette riche sélection musicale. Welcome to our bi-monthly ENCORE PRESENTATION of classic REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE episodes from the vault! This was a favorite of mine from a few years back, with punk legend, KT Kincaid of NEO BOYS, who came on the show to discuss our heroes, THE SLITS, and the amazing doc about their genius, HERE TO BE HEARD. Plus, I love getting to spend time with someone who helped bring an embryonic music scene to life, even as they had to push against the difficulties posed by local music club bans, volatile press, and a general public that feared any type of punk existence on the planet.(Episode 40 originally aired on June 4th, 2024). ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES:This week, we talked to musician and vital member of the late 70s/early 80s Portland Punk Scene, KT Kincaid, who picked the incredible doc, THE SLITS HERE TO BE HEARD. We discussed her and her sister's importance in the creation of the punk scene, their band NEO BOYS (whose recordings were reissued on K Records), discovering Bowie, seeing punkers before hearing punk, the rarity of finding punk records, picking the bass guitar over other instruments, nobody sounding like The Slits & the genius of Viv Albertine's guitar playing, being in a band with your sister, getting 50 people to come to a show, the video for ‘Earthbeat', The Flowers Of Romance, the punk collective mindset & loyalties in the punk scene, opening for Television, practicing non-stop in your first band & taking it so seriously, pooling money to buy records, the violence towards the early punk scene, the gang mentality of being in a band, the magic of chance meetings, getting pissed at the Guardian's review of this documentary, and Chris reads the minutes from one of the Portland punk collective's meetings from the late 70s.Nothing typical here as we dive into this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie!NEO BOYS:https://neoboys.bandcamp.com/album/sooner-or-later-vol-1-klp242THE SLITS ‘Earthbeat' videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqiFYcKEhxsREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film, or music videos to discuss. What happens after we die? Steve Kang thought he knew the answer. Raised Buddhist, he believed in reincarnation and nirvana. That was until a suicide attempt and a near-death experience forced him to confront a reality he never expected. This is the story of what he saw, and how it changed everything he thought he knew about life.Extra Content ▶ https://almostfalse.net/supporters/videos/series/6839Guest Links ▶ https://hub.almostfalse.net/podcast/65Ask a Question ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/ask-me-anythingWebsite ▶ https://almostfalse.netDiscord ▶ https://discord.gg/h4eeEt57jkMerch ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/merch
The marathon that is Awards Season (at least for those of us with jobs in media) finally came to its close last night. As has become tradition, the Run-Through podcast hosts, along with colleagues Taylor Antrim and Christian Allaire, gathered early on this foggy morning to discuss their takes on the 98th Academy Awards. The conversation started off with everyone's best dressed picks. For Chioma, this included Wunmi Mosaku who dazzled in her sparkling emerald green Louis Vuitton dress. The list of best dressed also included Renate Reinsve, another star in Louis Vuitton, and Gwenyth Paltrow in Armani Privé who both sported dramatic slits. Slits were just one of the fashion trends making a splash on last night's red carpet, reminding editors of Angelina Jolie's internet-breaking dress slit at the 2012 ceremony. Feathers were another item in vogue on the carpet and were worn by Teyana Taylor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, and Best Supporting Actress winner Amy Madigan. A conversation around the many jewels and rare diamonds being worn last night spawned a curiosity about the guards who work the Oscars. Perhaps a 2027 diamond guard get ready with me story is forthcoming? As for two of the biggest categories of the night—best actor and best actress—everyone was in agreement that Michael B Jordan and recent guest of the podcast Jessie Buckley, were chic and deserving winners. Up next, Met gala season! The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. Hosted by Chloe Malle, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue U.S.; Chioma Nnadi, Head of British Vogue; and Nicole Phelps, Director of Vogue Runway, each episode features the latest fashion news and exclusive designer and celebrity interviews. Ramona Carlier in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0JCoMYpiA0 Mo-dettes were a multinational all-female post-punk band, formed in 1979 by guitarist Kate Korris, an original member of the Slits and brief member of the Raincoats, and bassist Jane Crockford, a former member of Bank of Dresden. Ramona Carlier (vocals) and June Miles-Kingston (drums) completed the line-up.
On this week's episode we return to 70s for the first of a mini-series on post-punk. A historical period, an unhelpful genre descriptor, a structure of feeling? Whatever it is, the guitar bands of the UK and NYC in 1978 were creating some serious music. Jeremy and Tim discuss where the term came from, what exactly the ‘punk' it was following was, and some the music's early proponents. With reference to The Slits, Wire, Talking Heads and more, we hear about the Hacienda, John Peel, Modernism and Mark E Smith. The guys unpack how funk and reggae were influencing bands like The Contortions in their experimentation with rhythm, visit the CBGB club in New York, and dispute received ideas about the division between punk and disco. Finally, we introduce a major character in out story over the coming months: Arthur Russell.Tracklist:The Slits - New Town (John Peel Session) Wire - I Am the Fly The Fall - Stepping Out Talking Heads - Tentative Decisions The Contortions - I Can't Stand Myself Books:Simon Reynolds - Rip It Up and Start AgainJohn Savage - ‘The New Musick' in Time Travel

In this episode of El Cancionero de Kurt, Albina Cabrera delves into the female legacy within punk through the albums Dry by PJ Harvey, Cut by The Slits, and the self-titled debut of The Raincoats. This musical journey highlights the decisive influence of pioneering women who challenged gender conventions and paved the way for more authentic and rebellious expression within punk and alternative rock. These late '70s and early '90s masterpieces not only were part of Kurt Cobain's musical influences but also resonated deeply in Latin America, including bands like She Devils, Tijuana No!, The Bags in Los Angeles, and Maria T-Ta in Peru, to name a few. Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking! In this episode, we look at The Pretenders – where they started (& before they started!), the tragedies, and what's happening these days. From the Kent State shootings to mid-70's punk, it's a fascinating ride! In Rock News, we look at David Gilmour's new live concert film, Jimmy Page in court (again!), the latest on Oasis, Zak Starkey's in The Who (or is it Oasis?), and Panama's new album features collaborations with French music producer and artist Massane. Our Album You Must Hear before You Die is Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned. A startlingly good album from one of the most musically skilled bands of the punk era. Rumour has it that Stewart Copeland (The Police) once took Sting to a Damned gig to learn what rock was all about! As usual, it's an episode full of facts and fun. Enjoy! Baxie talks to legendary drummer Bruce Smith. Since 1979, Bruce has played with the insanely influential post-punk band The Pop Group, Public Image Ltd. with John Lydon, and The Slits. He's also played with Terrance Trent Darby, The The, and Bjork as well! Bruce is currently involved with Ashes and Diamonds—the incredible Super Group with Daniel Ash from Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets, and Sade's bass player Paul Denman. After seven years together and loads of interruptions and restarts, their debut album “Ashes and Diamonds and Forever” is finally getting its long overdue release (10/31/25). The final result is a record that Bruce calls “the most satisfying” of his career! Just brilliant! Our guest today is a drummer, percussionist and songwriter who cut his teeth on the St Helens cabaret circuit, at just 13 years old. However that would prove to be a world away from the groundbreaking career he would pursue in the world of Post-Punk and alternative rock. Peter Clarke is better known professionally under the name of Budgie. A self taught timekeeper, his unique style has lent itself to the likes of The Slits, The Glove, The Creatures and of course imperial phase of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Over the last 40 odd years Budgie has laid down the rhythm for alternative music and now he has written a book about his life, his journey through the music industry and most importantly his understanding of self. The Absence is much more than a rock n roll diary its an honest exploration of the factors that drove him from obscurity to fame and the very edge of control. Its an honest and unflinching look at a life that until now has only ever been glimpsed from the outside. We are delighted to welcome the musical pioneer that is Budgie to the show. Before all that Deb gets caught sneaking out of a film premier by Pauline Black and then has a smashing time with Phillip Glass. NAUSEA by Jean-Paul Sartre GO WENT GONE by Jenny Erpenbeck LAURUS by Evgeny VodolazkinBudgie is best known as the drummer with Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Creatures, as well as The Slits. His memoir The Absence: Memoirs of A Banshee is published in July 2025. Together with the Korean novelist Juhea Kim he chooses his favourite book to discuss with Harriett Gilbert. His choice is Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre because he it resonated with him as a young man finding his place in the world.Juhea Kim is the author of two critically acclaimed novels - Beasts of A Little Land and City of Night Birds. Juhea's choice is set in 15th century Russia and is the story of Arseny, a healer who makes a pilgrimage through plague ridden Europe to Jerusalem. Laurus by Evgeny Vodolazkin is a densely packed novel that deals with fundamental questions about the purpose of life and death. It's also extremely humorous in parts.Go Went Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck is Harriett's choice. Set in Berlin, it is the story of a newly retired German Professor and how he becomes involved with a group of African asylum seekers trapped within a bureaucratic system that bounces them back and forth between Italy and Germany with no resolution in sight. It's produced by Maggie Ayre for BBC Audio in BristolPhoto credit Billy & Hells

Dennis Bovell has worked his dub magic on everyone from Janet Kaye to the Slits, the Pop Group, Jarvis Cocker and Thom Yorke & Jonny Greenwood – and his own band Matumbi. He talks here about the thrill and freedom of making dub records, his new album Wise Music In Dub – which reworks ‘Pass The Dutchie', Minnie Riperton and the Stylistics – and how the phone never stops ringing with requests for an echo-filled clattery sonic re-boot. And about spending lockdown in a “dub bubble”, how recording has changed since his days with a one-track Phillips tape-machine, and recruiting Swizz The Panist (“who plays steel pans like a classical piano”) and Duke Baysee, the harmonica-playing Routemaster bus conductor.
