A self-proclaimed vampire. His harem of “witches.”And the small-town murder that shocked America. When twenty-four-year-old Sydney Loofe disappeared after a Tinder date, the quiet town of Wilber, Nebraska was stunned. Days later, her dismembered body was found scattered across nearby fields—and the horrifying truth began to emerge. Sydney hadn't just met the wrong man. She had crossed paths with a deeply disturbed psychopath and his dangerous accomplice. In The Vampire's Cult, investigative journalist Chet Hardin exposes the twisted world of Aubrey Trail, an aging con man who presented himself as an all-powerful being, and Bailey Boswell, the woman who called herself his “queen.” Together, they lured vulnerable young women into a spiral of sex, theft, and psychological manipulation—with deadly consequences.Through exclusive interviews, firsthand reporting, and chilling detail, Hardin unravels the making of a modern cult—and the social desperation that feeds it. In an era defined by false realities and toxic charisma, The Vampire's Cult reveals just how easily darkness can disguise itself as devotion.THE VAMPIRE'S CULT: The Untold Story of Obsession, Control, and a Small Town Murder—Chet Hardin
Gaius and Germanicus: Gaius recounts the tragic tale of the elephants in 55 BCE, who were lured from North Africawith promises of safety only to be slaughtered in Pompey's arena. The elephants' pathetic pleas moved the Romanaudience to tears, and Gaius notes that Pompey was later "cursed," meeting his end by decapitation in Egypt. Germanicus explains that while gladiatorial combat was a sacred Roman martial ethos used to relive military glory, the empire eventually shifted toward a Greek-Christian vision. This new era, centered in the East, rejected the "primitive tribal vision" of the arena in favor of piety and universal equality. Under Christianity, slavery began to die out in the Eastern Empire. The hosts conclude by preparing to meet a delegation of retired gladiators—men who survived the arena to become free citizens. (3)

Every month, tens of thousands of Russian soldiers are killed or wounded on the front lines. But Vladimir Putin has so far resisted a full-scale mass mobilization that would force large numbers of ordinary Russians into uniform — a move that could prove politically costly at home. So Russia is looking elsewhere for manpower. That includes Africa. In recent months, reports have emerged of African nationals being recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine. Some go knowingly. But many others appear to have been lured under false pretenses, promised civilian jobs in Russia as truck drivers, security guards, or other workers — only to find themselves routed into military training camps and then sent to the front lines. My guest today, Guyo Chepe Turi, has been investigating how this recruitment pipeline works. He is a research officer with the Institute for Security Studies in Nairobi, where he focuses on East Africa peace, security, and governance. In a recent article, he examined how recruitment networks are targeting young Africans, including in Kenya, and sending them into Russia's war effort. According to Guyo, Ukraine estimates that there are nearly 3,000 fighters from at least 36 African countries now involved in Russia's war. The countries affected include Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and others. The true number may be higher, because many of these cases go undocumented.

Paul Logan was just doing his job, dropping off a takeaway order like countless nights before, until the address on his delivery route turned out to be a trap. Lured by a fake order, he walked straight into an ambush that would cost him his life, leaving behind a crime scene with more questions than answers and a family trying to understand how a simple shift ended in horror. His story turns an everyday job into a nightmare scenario: who placed that order, why was he targeted, and how do you stay safe when the danger is waiting at the front door?
On this episode of Scene Missing, we head into shadowy postwar London for a stylish and strange detour in the career of Douglas Sirk. Before the lush Technicolor melodramas of the 1950s, Sirk took a crack at noir with the 1947 thriller Lured. A serial killer mystery wrapped in elegance, obsession, and just a touch of dark humor. Starring Lucille Ball in a rare dramatic role, the film follows a woman drawn into a dangerous undercover game as bait for a killer targeting lonely hearts. Along the way, she crosses paths with a gallery of suspects played by the likes of George Sanders and Boris Karloff, each bringing their own eerie flavor to the mystery.Joining me for the conversation is Washington D.C. comedian Lady Vee, and we dig into what makes Lured such an odd and fascinating hybrid. Is this a straight noir, or something more playful and subversive? How does Sirk's later thematic obsession with performance and identity show up here? And where does this sit in the evolution of Lucille Ball before I Love Lucy changed everything?

Grab your tissues and your popcorn (but maybe chew quietly) because the Cinebuds are back to talk about some of the season's biggest buzz films.Dori and Kpolly start with a dive into the beautifully heartbreaking Hamnet from visionary director Chloe Zhao. They explore this historical-fiction tale of William Shakespeare's family, featuring stunning performances by Jesse Buckley and Paul Mescal, plus a breakout turn by young Jacob Jupe. Be prepared for a symphony of sniffles as the hosts discuss how this film masterfully tackles love, grief and the special sauce that comes from a filmmaker's personal connection to the material. Then, it's time to talk about the Oscars' biggest oversight: Korean dark comedy No Other Choice. Despite rave reviews and a Golden Globe nomination, this "will he get away with it" thriller starring Lee Byung-hun was surprisingly snubbed by the Academy. Plus, the buds share some deep cuts to add to your queue, including the horror-comedy Dust Bunny and a vintage Lucille Ball thriller, Lured.#####Cinebuds is sponsored by Joe Wilde Garage Door Company.
The investigation into Heather Strong's disappearance ends in the most devastating way possible. What began as a missing person case becomes a murder trial that sends ripples through Florida's legal system for years to come.Heather Strong was 26 years old when her life was brutally cut short. A mother of two young children, McKinzie and Zachary, she had spent years navigating a turbulent relationship with her ex-partner Joshua Fulgham while trying to build a better life for her family. Her cousin Misty, who grew up with Heather in Mississippi, described her as the sister she never had.On February 15, 2009, in a storage trailer in rural Boardman, Florida, Heather walked into a trap. Lured by promises of hidden money, she instead found herself bound to a chair with duct tape, a plastic bag sealed over her head. According to court testimony, she remained conscious for approximately five agonizing minutes as she suffocated. Joshua Fulgham and his pregnant girlfriend Emilia Carr worked in tandem to restrain her, silence her pleas for help, and end her life. The investigation that followed was methodical and relentless. Deputy Billings from the Marion County Sheriff's Office pieced together witness accounts, jailhouse recordings, and forensic evidence. When detectives enlisted Fulgham's sister to wear a wire, Carr's admissions unraveled completely. On March 19, 2009, Fulgham led investigators to a shallow grave on property owned by Carr's mother, where Heather's decomposing remains confirmed what her family had feared. Both perpetrators faced justice. Emilia Carr was initially sentenced to death in 2011 by a 7-5 jury vote. Following the 2016 Hurst v. Florida Supreme Court decision declaring non-unanimous death penalty recommendations unconstitutional, she was resentenced to life without parole in June 2017. Joshua Fulgham received life without parole in April 2012. Heather's two children were eventually adopted into new families. This episode contains audio from court proceedings and investigative interviews. Kenyan authorities recently reported that 200 of their citizens are fighting for Russia in the war in Ukraine. Many of them have reported that they travelled to Russia after replying to job adverts for roles as drivers, security guards and cooks. It was only on arrival that they were sent for military training, and then sent to the battlefield in Ukraine.BBC Africa's David Wafula has spoken to families trying to find sons and brothers, lost in Russia's war. In September 2025 a wave of anti-government protests swept through Indonesia. Bali, however, remained free from demonstrations. Academics and sociologists say this is due to a legacy of terror from the island's 1965 communist purge. This brutal period taught communities a chilling lesson: dissent leads to annihilation. As a result, many Balinese people have become conditioned to avoid confrontation and suppress negative opinions, especially concerning the tourism sector. Tri Wahyuni of BBC Indonesian has looked into Bali's relationship with tourism and its own history. In Panna, a diamond mining region in central India, two childhood friends recently made a discovery that they think could change their lives forever. They had rented a small patch of land in the hopes of finding diamonds, and after only 19 days of digging they found one worth an estimated $55,000. Vishnukant Tiwari reports for the BBC in central India and spoke to the brothers. The media is lying to you about the "martyr" in Minneapolis. This wasn't police brutality—it was Suicide by Ideology. Death by Woke. On today's Wake Up America, Austin Petersen breaks down the tragic footage of an ICE agent shooting a woman who tried to run him over with a 4,000lb SUV. The truth? She isn't dead because of a bullet. She is dead because politicians like Mayor Jacob Frey and Gov. Tim Walz convinced her that attacking federal agents was a game. They wound her up, pointed her at the Feds, and are now using her corpse to score political points against Trump. Camellia Peterson from AFP-Missouri joins the show to discuss the rebellion in the Show-Me State: A plan to abolish the State Income Tax completely.

Rebecca Park was twenty-two years old and thirty-eight weeks pregnant when she disappeared from rural Michigan on November third, 2025. Three weeks later, her body was discovered in Manistee National Forest. Her abdomen had been cut open. Her baby was gone. Now her biological mother, Cortney Bartholomew, and stepfather Bradly Bartholomew face eight felony charges each, including first-degree murder and torture. But the allegations in this case extend into territory almost too disturbing to process. According to the eighteen-page probable cause affidavit, Cortney had been having an affair with her own daughter's fiancé, Richard Falor, the man who fathered Rebecca's unborn child. Rebecca's sister Kimberly also allegedly told investigators she was in a relationship with Falor. Prosecutors say the murder was premeditated. Court documents reveal Cortney researched the killing in advance and texted family members claiming she had given birth to a baby that did not exist days before Rebecca vanished. Rebecca was allegedly lured to her mother's home with the promise of laundry soap and ice cream. She was taken into the woods and stabbed thirteen times. According to investigators, Cortney admitted she removed the baby while Rebecca was still conscious as Bradly held a knife to her throat. The baby's remains were reportedly placed in a lunch cooler and discarded in a residential trash bin. They have not been recovered. Both defendants are now pointing fingers at each other while simultaneously admitting they were present during the killing. Cortney allegedly told investigators that Bradly, a registered sex offender with multiple convictions, was the biological father of the unborn child. Rebecca's adoptive mother told reporters she spent eighteen years hiding her children from Cortney because she knew she was dangerous. Rebecca leaves behind two sons, ages two and three. Probable cause hearings have been postponed until January. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. #RebeccaPark #TrueCrime #Michigan #WexfordCounty #MurderCase #CortneyBartholomew #CriminalJustice #TrueCrimeNews #JusticeForRebecca #BreakingNews #BradlyBartholomew #ManisteeNationalForest #TrueCrimeCommunity #MichiganCrime #CriminalInvestigation #TrueCrimeYouTube #JusticeSystem #ColdCase #VictimAdvocacy #TrueCrimeDaily Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This terrifying true ghost story takes us inside a seemingly ordinary chain furniture store with a disturbing past. Once a feed-and-seed shop, then a small mattress factory, the three-story building sat empty for years before reopening — but something else seemed to linger in the shadows. Employees whispered about phantom workers helping customers on the second floor, footsteps in locked rooms, and an icy storage level that always smelled of damp concrete. One winter, during an ice storm, a short-staffed employee braved the dark stairwell only to encounter what looked like his sick coworker walking silently into a wall — and vanishing. Soon, the activity escalated: voices calling his name from the empty third floor, metal scraping across concrete, stacks of boxes moved overnight, and a shadowy figure standing motionless in a corner. Was it a spirit tied to the building's long, industrial history? Or something darker feeding off fear in the shadows above the showroom? #HauntedFurnitureStore #WorkplaceHaunting #TrueGhostStory #PoltergeistActivity #ShadowFigure #CreepyWorkStories #TheGraveTalks #ParanormalPodcast #RealHauntings #GhostEncounters #MimicGhost Love real ghost stories?
