Yogis call it Prana. Ayurvedic Professionals call it Vayu, Prana, or Vata. Other Asian modalities call it the Qi, Chi and in English we just say Vitality. If there is one thing that is common between Yoga, Ayurveda and other modalities--it is the breathing-a system of slow breathing that supports us in a myriad of ways both mental and physical. Here's an introduction lecture by well known yogini from Germany-Anuraddha.

About the book: Ever wondered why you’re feeling out of balance, stressed-out, sick, and exhausted but still can’t sleep? Western medicine often ignores the underlying issues that can lead to fatigue, illness, and disease, but there is a way to revitalize your body and mind without drugs or dangerous side effects. Ayurveda, the “science of life,” is a complete wellness system that includes all that we associate with medical care — prevention of disease, observation, diagnosis, and treatment — as well as self-care practices that are generally absent from Western medicine. This truly holistic approach considers not just diet, exercise, and genetics but also relationships, life purpose, finances, environment, and past experiences. In this thorough and practical book, Michelle Fondin guides you gently through self-assessment questions designed to zero in on your needs and the best practices for addressing them, such as eating plans, addiction treatment, detoxification, and techniques for improving relationships. She outlines steps you can take, with minimal cost, to heal common ailments such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, excess weight, anxiety, and depression. These time-tested methods for body, mind, and spirit wellness offer benefits to anyone at any age. For Life on Purpose Episode #22, my guest is Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor, yoga and meditation teacher, and author Michelle Fondin. Michelle joins me to discuss all things Ayurveda — from how it helped drastically change her life after she was diagnosed with cancer at age 28 to how it can help you find the health answers you're seeking by tapping into your body's inherent wisdom, as well as some of the tools she uses to live a purposeful life. About: Michelle Fondin is an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor, yoga and meditation teacher, author, and since 2008, the Owner of The Ayurvedic Path. She lives in Virginia with her three kids and two cats. Her most recent book, The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle (published by New World Library) offers an in-depth exploration of Ayurveda, which originated in India at least five thousand years ago and has stood the test of time. Ayurveda, the “science of life,” is a complete wellness system that includes all that we associate with medical care — prevention of disease, observation, diagnosis, and treatment — as well as self-care practices that are generally absent from Western medicine. The book is built around eight “spokes” of the Ayurvedic wheel of healing — physical, spiritual, emotional, relationship, occupational, financial, and environmental health, as well as healing the past. Using the system of three principle doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), Michelle offers readers a self-assessment for discovering their mind-body type, as well as practical ways they can enhance their health based on their type. What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is composed of two words. Ayur means Life, and Veda means Knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda deals with how to live a healthy, balanced life. It is a traditional, holistic system of health science from India, which has been practiced for over 5,000 years. According to Ayurveda there are three main body types also known as doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Based on your body type, you’ll be able to understand how you function mentally, emotionally and physically in relation to your overall body type. Wouldn’t be nice to understand your body, its function so you can make the right choice for your body type instead of building dependencies on products that mask your symptoms? Let’s support our body’s own ability to achieve optimal health and build self-sufficiency rather than dependency on any products. In Ayurveda, this is best done with the knowledge of your Body Type. Each of us have a mixture of the qualities of Kapha, Pitta or Vata. Our Guest Dr. Shekhar is an ayurvedic doctor who was classically trained in India and has been practicing and teaching Ayurveda worldwide since 1988. He is the Founder/Director of Ojas, an Ayurveda Wellness Center in PA. Founder & Medical Director at the International Institute of Integrative Medicine. Founder/President of the: Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America (AAPNA) Today we are discussing our body types with the intention to teach some helpful tips to help you balance your body, based on your body type.
