The first time I met Abby Hueber, founder of Above Health Nutrition, was over artfully roasted cauliflower and punchy green juices at True Food Kitchen in Scottsdale, Arizona. In hindsight I can't fathom us meeting any other way. Here is a sneak peek at what we get into in this episode: "When we have gut symptoms, SIBO, IBS etc., we often have a breakdown in our gut lining, which is a breakdown in our own boundaries as a human. That is often reflective in our outside lives, relationships, self-worth, people pleasing, codependancy, etc. Through healing out gut we are actually doing so much more, as it requires us to heal ourselves and our relationship to our own boundaries. Gut healing often requires us to value ourselves more and value that we are worth setting stronger boundaries to create our healing window and often find that on the other side of gut healing or healing in general we have transformed our relationship to ourselves, to others and found more alignment in many other unexpected but needed areas of our lives"

Hello Big Brains listeners! Our podcast is coming up on an important milestone … our 100th episode! As part of the month-long celebration, we're looking back at some of our favorite episodes—highlighting a different world-changing idea or discovery each week. This week, we look back at our episode with UChicago economist, Raghuram Rajan. He became infamous for predicting the 2008 financial collapse three years before it happened. Rajan says that there are three pillars in our society: the state, the markets and the community. In his new book, he traces the history of how the state and markets have grown, while the community has weakened. He says these pillars need to be brought back to an equilibrium in order to address many of the global issues we face today.
Today we had Dr. Darren Schmidt on the show to talk about a subject that could be the lynch pin for all chronic degenerative diseases. In fact according to his studies over 150 disease processes are tied to lactic acidosis. What is lactic acidosis you say? Well Dr. Darren Schmidt explained that lactic acidosis is commonly known as simply "dirty blood". How would your blood being dirty cause disease? What does that even mean diry blood? Does that mean your blood has actual dirt in it? No. It means that your blood could be filled with parasites, plastics (or other endocrine disruptors), viruses, fungi, bacteria or other pathogens that cause the blood to become too think and unable to transfer oxygen and light correctly. When your blood has all these toxins and chemicals in it, it's not able to do its job. So what can you do to clean up your blood and reverse lactic acidosis in your body? Well luckily Dr. Darren Schmidt talked specifically about B-vitamins and how they can help clean the blood. Wouldn't it be crazy if taking a broas spectrum B-vitamin complex could actually have the effect of cleaning up your blood and getting rid of lactic acidosis? It was an honor to have Dr. Darren Schmidt on the show and I hope you enjoy this interview! On Last Thing! I've become somewhat obsessed with Joseph Campbell lately. I found a copy of The Power of Myth and have been pouring over it these last weeks. Each paragraph blows my mind! He speaks of feminine mythos that were displaced by masculine mythos, and it got me thinking, this in-between torture we're in the midst of? It is because of an imbalance between feminine and masculine energies. Feminine and masculine energies have nothing to do with gender. We all have feminine and masculine energies in our bodies. All genders can tap into BOTH energies, though it's common for most to have a more dominant energy, but this can shift day to day. Both have positive and negative attributes and our best life is when we seek balance between the two in all things at all times. As we seek balance, it is IMPERATIVE THAT WE DON'T BURN DOWN, DIMINISH OR SUPPRESS the masculine. That will not result in balance. In fact, that's exactly how we got into the current mess we're in now. By the end of this episode, I hope you learn to embrace all parts of yourself and find that the balance between masculine/feminine is your superpower.Show Creators and Social Media Links:Art Director – Nora HotesLink to audio engineer—Aidan ConnersCurious Cat on TwitterCurious Cat on InstagramHost, Jennifer Hotes, on TwitterShow Sources and Materials:Medium Article: https://medium.com/thrive-global/learn-the-difference-between-masculine-and-feminine-energy-ff1c14366aedhttps://www.chopra.com/articles/how-to-balance-and-harmonize-masculine-and-feminine-energieshttps://chopra.com/articles/how-to-balance-your-female-and-male-energyThe Five Visions of Nikola Tesla

I am excited to have the opportunity to reconnect with Robb Wolf today! Rob is a delightful and pragmatic research biochemist and two-times New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. One of his books, Wired to Eat, is my favorite, and I often recommend it! Robb used to be a research scientist, and he also has a background in Jiu-Jitsu. In this episode, he and I dive into everything related to electrolytes. We discuss what piqued his interest in his training journey, the problems with traditional oral rehydration therapies (Gatorade), and what happens with electrolyte loss. We get into some common conditions that can make us lose more electrolytes. We talk about the role of specific electrolytes, including magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium, and explain how to determine if you are creating too much hormetic stress in the body related to overtraining and over-fasting.
