Mark and Kevin dissect the recent UK general election results, exploring potential impacts on property investment, economic policies, and the future political landscape. Mark also shares his thoughts on navigating the changing market, seizing opportunities amidst current challenges, and adapting investment strategies. KEY TAKEAWAYS Labour's victory was significant but not as large as initially predicted, with the Conservatives performing better than expected despite their worst result since the 1830s. Interest rates are expected to start declining in the second half of 2024, with a gradual decrease over the next 3+ years, potentially settling between 2-3%. The property market is likely to see an uptick once interest rates decrease, as incomes have risen and house prices have rebalanced, creating opportunities for investors. Buying properties through limited companies offers tax advantages, allowing full mortgage interest to offset against rent for tax purposes. Nigel Farage's presence in Parliament could bring attention to landlord issues and hold the Labour government accountable in an entertaining manner. Labour's large majority may lead to internal conflicts between centrist and left-wing factions, potentially complicating legislative efforts. Successful property investment requires focusing on a specific area, building local contacts, and adapting to market changes rather than using a scattered approach across multiple locations. BEST MOMENTS "Do not wish for no problems, wish for the ability to handle bigger ones. And there will be some great stuff that comes out of the new election." "I think there will be huge opportunity. If there's a big shift, there will be huge opportunities." "You've got to take action, and get in an environment where you can learn. You need to be devouring books, courses, videos. Being around other property investors who have found a way to make money out of a new world, a new environment." "I always say to people, do not wish for no problems, wish for the ability to handle bigger ones." "We're making more money than we ever have out of our properties, at any point over the last 20 years, because we've changed and taken advantage of all these things and utilize them." Full Hour | Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by telling of a new RealClearInvestigation piece that delves into the business dealings of the Biden family with Ukraine. Dom takes listeners inside the story, telling that he hopes to have author Paul Sperry on soon, discussing in-depth allegations that an auto magnate with strong ties to Ukraine who has had past business dealings with the family is urging the war in Ukraine. Then, Dom offers some more commentary on Tucker Carlson's departure, pontificating what he thinks will come next for the long-time Fox News primetime host. Then, Dom plays back a Phil Murphy interview where he addressed his new, strange hairstyle, which he blames on his hairdresser. Then, Dom welcomes in Don Bozzuffi, President of the Deptford Little League, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a story out of his organization that's gone viral nationwide. Last week, Bozzuffi announced to his league's parents that they will now be forced to volunteer as an umpire in the league for 3 games if they're being unruly to another umpire, who are all volunteers. This has caused quite a stir, as it seems somebody has finally landed on a way to push back against increasingly critical parents, many times leading to aggressive situations. Bozzuffi explains why he made this decision and tells about the response he's received both from parents and with the news going viral. (Photo by Getty Images)
Venomous snakebites are responsible for up to 150,000 deaths a year around the world – and they also leave around half a million survivors with life-changing injuries, including amputations and disfigurement. In this week's Health Check we investigate why snakebite still disproportionately affects poorer, more rural communities, and what is being done to tackle the problem. We'll talk to a mother in Kenya whose little girl was bitten by a snake not once, but twice, and to a doctor about how it feels to save lives. We'll hear how anti-venoms are checked and how in many cases they are too expensive to afford and how there are not always enough supplies. And even when they are available some don't work well. Smitha Mundasad also visits the Centre for Snakebite Research and Interventions in Liverpool, England, where she gets to see a snake being “milked” for its venom – and finds out how new and improved anti-venoms are being created, all with a little help from camels. Join us on a journey crossing continents, from the front line of the fight against snakebite to the hunt for new therapies. Image: Herpetologist Edouard Crittenden “milking” a snake for its venom. In this week’s episode, we get a glimpse at the beautiful journey of Patricia Smith. A storyteller at heart, Smith aims to explore every possibility. This episode includes her poem featured in the Get Lit Anthology, “Biting Back.”“Biting Back” by Patricia SmithChildren do not grow upas much as they grow away.My son’s eyes are stones - flat, brown, fireless, with no visible openings in or out.His voice, when he cares to try it on,hovers one-note in that killing placewhere even the blues fidget.Tight syllables, half spoken, half spat, greet me with the warmth,of glint-tipped arrows. The air around himhurts my chest, grows too cold to nourish, and he stares past me to the open door of his room, anxious for my pattent-ed, stumbled retreat. My fingers used to brush bit of the worldFrom his kinked hair, but he moved beyond that mother shineto whispered “fucks” on the telephone,to the sweet mysteries of scalloped buttonsdotting the maps of young girls,to the warped, frustrating truths of algebra,to anything but me. Ancient, annoying apparatus,I have unfortunately retained the ability to warm meat,to open cans, to clean clothingthat has yellowed and stiffened.I spit money when squeezed, don’t try to dance in front of his friends,And know that rap music canNOTT be stopped. For these brief flashes of cool, I am tolerated in spurts. At night I lay in my husband’s armsand he tells me that these are things that happen, that the world will tilt againand our son will return, unannounced, as he was -goofy and clinging, clever with words, stupefied by rockets. And I dream on that. One summer after camp, twelve inches taller than the summer before,my child grinned and said,“Maybe a tree bit me.” We laughed, not knowing that was to be his last uttered innocence.Only months later, eyes would narrow and doors would slam. Now he is scowl, facial hair, knots of muscle. He isPimp, homey, pistol. He is man smell, grimy [grai-mee] fingers, red eyes, rolling dice. He is street, smoke, cocked cannon. And I sit on his bare mattress after he’s left for school, wonder at the simple jumble of this motherless world, look for clues that some gumpopping teenage girlnow wears my face. Full of breastmilk and finger songs,I stumble the street staring at other children, gulping my dose of their giggles, and cursing the trees for their teeth.Support the show (https://getlit.org/donate/)

While I hate the thought of guns, I understand how hunters and sports-folk have a passion for them. And I also recognize the need for firearms in law enforcement to counter all the bad guys out there using deadly force. But I really like the idea of canine officers trained to assist their human partners. Because once that trigger’s pulled, there’s no calling the bullet back-- not so, with a tactical canine officer. Recent shows featured arson and bomb detection canines, and today I talk with Special Agent Mark Murray about his tactical canine partner, Barron. I had the privilege to see Barron and SA Murray give a demonstration at Thrillerfest 2009 in New York and am delighted to share some insights into this special partnership.
