If punk rock were a war zone, then the Dwarves would be the band barreling through it in a flaming van, middle fingers raised, amps cranked to 11, and blood still dripping from last night's gig. Formed in the 1980s in Chicago, the Dwarves became infamous not just for their music, but for their pure commitment to never giving a damn. Fast, loud, and offensively proud, their sound is a dirty cocktail of hardcore punk, garage rock, and shock-value stage antics that could make even G.G. Allin flinch. At the heart of this madness is Blag Dahlia, the velvet-voiced villain with a smirk as sharp as his lyrics. Blag isn't your typical punk shouter—he's a crooner of filth, delivering twisted tales of sex, violence, and satire with a voice that sounds like Elvis Presley lost a bet and joined a biker gang. Whether he's wearing a feather boa or bleeding from a mic stand injury, he commands the stage like a glam-rock devil who wandered into the wrong basement show and made it his throne.Over the decades, the Dwarves have become legends in the underground, not because they followed the rules—but because they lit them on fire. Their live shows are the stuff of punk folklore: sets barely over fifteen minutes, instruments destroyed, nudity, arrests, and occasionally someone getting clocked in the face. Yet somehow, amid all the chaos, the music remains tight, catchy, and unmistakably them—riffs that bite and lyrics that cackle at societal norms. What separates Blag from the rest of punk's chaos cult leaders is his mind. Behind the band's provocations and obscene album covers is a guy who's sharply articulate, darkly funny, and undeniably intelligent. He's written books, dabbled in podcasts, and can quote literature just as easily as he can scream “Let's get drunk and f**!”* on stage. He might play the villain, but he's got philosopher bones under all that leather and glitter. The Dwarves' discography is a glorious mess—albums like Blood Guts & Pussy, The Dwarves Are Young and Good Looking, and How to Win Friends and Influence People aren't just punk records; they're declarations of war against the sanitized and the safe. And Blag? He's the warlord, waving a flag made from a torn fishnet shirt and a bottle of Jack.In a world where many punk bands soften with age, the Dwarves and Blag have only gotten sharper, stranger, and more delightfully unapologetic. They've aged like a beer can left in the sun—dented, dangerous, and likely to explode when shaken. And that's exactly how their fans like it.https://thedwarves.com/

Despite never achieving massive commercial success, The Dwarves have left an indelible mark on both hardcore and punk. They've always eschewed mainstream conventions, forgoing major label support in favor of raw, unfiltered expression. As such, they're live shows, notorious for their intensity and unpredictability. The Dwarves have a new album out titled Concept Album.

This week on Episode 63 of Bobby Pickles' Podcast (Dying Scene Radio #8), Bobby Pickles confirms his pirate status, while talk immediately turns to tech news, and Bob Noxious admits he has worn a smart-watch since the age of three, giving a new meaning to the term “early adoption”. But the Apple Watch isn’t very i-Punk; therefore, all the other little boys and girls always wondered why Bob was so overwhelmed with the concept of time. While discussing this week’s music news, Bob’s darkside shows it’s grubby little hand again, as he ponders Bobby’s Internet browser history, and what people would think about his search habits. Bobby erroneously corrects Bob for mentioning a band called Darlington, who was recently on a split 7″ with The Prozacs. Referring to the band in the plural form, Darlingtons, Bobby goes on to claim that Bob cannot remember what he says from week to week and inquires if he has ever taken Prozac. Both Bobs do not know the ailments for which Prozac is even treated. Bob adds “Prozac” to the list of items he prefers to keep out of his search history, then he decides to start a crowd funding campaign to have his co-host, Bobby, killed. Bobby’s impeccable journalism once again shines through, as he brings up the new Flatliners video and 7″ single, which they released last week. Then his pirate-blood really becomes evident when Bobby fires shots across the bow, claiming Bob does not want to include the song in this week’s playlist. Bob argues that he is exempt, presenting his evidence of having played the new Flatliners song “Fangs” on last week’s show. Bobby lets him off the hook. Bobby mentions a new video recently released by pop-punk band, New Found Glory, who Bob presumes to have found a “new harder edge” as Bob continues by fantasizing about Andrew WK killing them all with a chainsaw in the video. Bobby discusses the upcoming release of The American Dream Died, which is the long awaited new record by veteran NYHC band, Agnostic Front. Bobby makes a slanderous accusation of Bob while covering the news of Roger Miret and company, but we’ll just let the listeners decide who’s telling the truth. BAND SPOTLIGHT: ¡La Vasa! The Bobs reach out to Santa Barbara, CA thrash punk band, ¡La Vasa! – Bobby asking right away about the weather in Southern California. Preparing for the CD release party for their new record Quest, the band speaks candidly from the warm confines of their rehearsal studio about its origins and how they started from a craigslist ad. The Bobs uncover that new bass player, Kevin Johnson, is a former DyingScene.com writer – Bob encouraging LeftCoastKJ to contribute articles to the website again. As the show progresses in poor taste, Bobby announces that everything runs “in threes” as he mentions three notable deaths, which took place this week in the punk rock community. The dark clouds continue to accumulate overhead as the two ponder starting a “Celebrity Death Pool” until they realize that there were already three; therefore, the contest is now closed. Bobby reads The Queers statement about the recent passing of their former drummer, Tulu, in the voice of a “Miami Socialite”, while Bob insinuates his undignified co-host sounds more like 70′s icon, Supafly. Bob cops to having discovered that there is a band from Canada called “Bobnoxious” and declares them the “third-worst thing to have ever been produced in Canada”, running a tight race with Nickleback and Justin Beiber (not necessarily in that order). Bob loses two “punk rock points” by confessing to have watched the new Nickleback video at Bobby’s mother’s house, as Bobby secretly plots to destroy Bob someday, opting not publishing his intentions like stupid Bob. Bob declares that the band is still shit and to not waste your time watching it (we all know that’s a black flag). Bobby mentions that he will be interviewing Blag Dahlia of The Dwarves this weekend at Bowery Electric for the launch of their East Coast tour. Bob encourages him to treat Blag to shots, so that Blag will dress him. Tune in next week to see if Pickles can pull it off!
