On today's 15-minute briefing: Spain Kick Into Gear: Spain are finally looking the part against Saudi Arabia. Dani Olmo is just such a wonderful player, and with Lamine Yamal in the side, they can probably pose a massive problem to absolutely anyone. Belgium Underwhelm: Belgium underwhelm yet again, but I have to give a massive shout out to Iran, who dug deep to pick up a huge point. The Story of the Tournament: Are Cape Verde the story of the World Cup? Going toe-to-toe with Spain and now Uruguay—it is incredible to watch. Egypt Get the Job Done: Egypt show up and get a result against New Zealand that was probably expected of them, but you have to give credit to NZ, who made them work incredibly hard for it. Messi Makes History: Lionel Messi becomes the outright World Cup leading scorer with two great finishes against Austria, surely solidifying himself as the GOAT. He did miss a penalty though, which makes me wonder: did he miss it on purpose because he didn't want to break the record with a pen? Either way, Argentina are safely through to the next round. France Battle the Elements: Despite a chaotic two-hour rain delay against Iraq, Kylian Mbappe just keeps the goals coming. But once again, Michael Olise is looking like one of the best players in the world right now. France also book their spot in the next round. Haaland vs Mbappe Awaits: Erling Haaland bags two against Senegal, who are genuinely a good side and managed to cut right through Norway's defence. That vulnerability is going to be fascinating to watch in their upcoming clash with France—it is officially Haaland vs Mbappe. Jordan Say Goodbye: Finally, Jordan officially exit the competition after their result against Algeria. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Egypt made history in Vancouver, beating New Zealand 3-1 to record their first World Cup win, 92 years after becoming the first African and Arab nation to appear at the tournament. A half-time tactical shift transformed the match after Egypt fell behind, with Mohamed Salah scoring his first World Cup goal before Trezeguet headed in a third from Salah's corner. Egypt now top Group G on four points, with an opportunity to win the group in their final match against Iran. Iran kept pace with a disciplined 0-0 draw against Belgium, with Alireza Beiranvand making a crucial save and Mehdi Taremi denied a goal by VAR. Belgium finished with ten men after a late red card. The Group G finale between Egypt and Iran is now one of the most compelling matches of the round. Morocco scored the fastest goal of the tournament so far, with Ismael Saibari scoring after 71 seconds against Scotland on Sunday to claim a 1-0 win. Morocco are level with Brazil at the top of Group C on four points. Spain recovered from their opening draw to beat Saudi Arabia 4-0, with 18-year-old Lamine Yamal scoring on his first World Cup start to become only the second player of that age to open the scoring in a World Cup match after Pele in 1958. Saudi Arabia have one point from two games and must beat Cape Verde to stay alive. Tunisia were eliminated after a 4-0 defeat to Japan, their second heavy loss in two matches under two different coaches. Tonight, France face Iraq at 1am UAE time, with Didier Deschamps warning his squad not to underestimate them. Argentina face Austria at 9pm, and Jordan take on Algeria at 7am in a match both sides need. Mina Rzouki presents Trending Middle East's World Cup round-up, a daily bonus series from The National for the duration of the tournament.

This is Thierry Henry as you rarely hear him - brutally honest, analytical and still completely obsessed with competition, winning and perfection at the highest level of football.Henry visits Rio at his Airbnb in LA and opens up on the mentality behind his legendary career, including the coach at Clairefontaine who completely changed his understanding of how he moved on the pitch and why he genuinely preferred creating goals over scoring them himself - even if people never believe him. There's some extraordinary insight into Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Henry explaining why Messi's work ethic is hugely underrated, how quickly he justified the total freedom given to him by manager Pep Guardiola and why football should stop trying to compare the two greatest players of their generation. He also shares brilliant stories around Messi's mentality, aura inside the dressing room and how he developed into a killer from set-pieces.The conversation dives into the modern game too, with Henry arguing football has become too robotic and explaining why players like Lamine Yamal, Michael Olise and Rayan Cherki stand out because they still take risks and play with freedom. There's also special praise for Cherki's dribbling ability whilst pointing out that if the Man City forward develops his mentality off the ball he could become unstoppable. There's huge praise too for Harry Kane, Julian Alvarez and Bruno Fernandes, with Henry defending Bruno's mentality before Henry also discusses France's World Cup chances, Ousmane Dembélé's evolution into a winning player and why England genuinely could have won the 2002 World Cup if they had beaten Brazil.
