No there are no typos in the title, that's how "Labours" is spelled in this instance and the Greek pronunciation is HERA-CLES, cause the dude was named after Hera, who was actually not his mother, far from it. Daddy Zeus did was Zeus gon' do and sexed up a mortal woman disguised as her husband, she got pregnant, Hera got pissed and Heracles was born into the Greek World with a target already on his back. Now we should preface this with a disclaimer, this ain't Walt's Hercules, I mean that movie is a banger but the real story of Heracles would be a hard NC-17 rating. The 12 Labours are pretty much the story of Heracles' life, all his myths and stories come from what happened while he was crossing things off his task list. But why was he doing these mythological honey-do's instead of chillin' on Olympus? Well that all comes back to Hera and the instant she destroyed his life and set a path before him to possible redemption. Alright enough talk let's get into it.... Support the show

What is PSNFL? Find out on this week's PlayingFTSE Show! It's been a storming week for both Steves. But who's done well, who's done better, and what's been going on with Nintendo?Rachel Reeves has issued the latest set of government spending plans. And there have been some obvious winners from the news. Chief among these is Rolls-Royce. But the housebuilders have also been doing well and both Steves are actually relatively optimistic about the plans going forward. On the face of it, Halma's latest results appear to be outstanding and the stock is up as a result. Steve W has been having a look at the numbers.Organic growth is impressive and the stock market clearly likes it. However, with a March 31st cutoff, could there be tariff volatility on the way?Wise might be leaving the UK, but Steve and Steve aren't willing to let this one go easily. Another outstanding year has seen the company go from strength to strength.More people, more transaction volume, and lower charges are seeing the company pull away. So is it likely to attract a better multiple on the other side of the Atlantic?Danaher is an S&P 500 stock that we haven't talked about much before. But it's the kind of business that both Steves like – strong growth and a good acquirer. It has a very interesting backstory and a culture that gives it a big competitive advantage. So at a cyclical low, could it be a stock to buy right now?Only on this week's PlayingFTSE Podcast!► Get a free share! This show is sponsored by Trading 212! Love labours. In doing so, it overcomes a multitude of difficulties. It triumphs over those difficulties in a way which demonstrates the heavenly source of its energies. Spurgeon actually begins the sermon with a meditation on the Holy Spirit as the only one who can work true Christian love in the heart of sinners like us. Christian love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. It contends with and overcomes self, other people, the world, and hell. The middle section on the triumphs of love is quite splendid. In each case Spurgeon shows what is the bearing, believing, hoping, and enduring power of love, applying the principle to our dealings both with believers and unbelievers, and then pointing us to Christ Jesus as the enduring example and demonstration of that aspect of love. It is a powerful and probing part of the sermon. The last section is much shorter, but can afford to be, as the preacher is really just tying off the threads which he laid in his introduction, and which have run throughout the sermon as a whole. As an example of sermonic construction, including adaptation in the act of preaching, it is most helpful. But it is more than a model for preaching; it is a call to loving living, and one that is convicting and compelling and comforting. Panic has subsided over the British Steel crisis as Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, while visiting the site in Scunthorpe, confirmed that the raw materials needed to keep the furnaces running have been secured. While questions remain over the long-term future of the site, the Government are quite confident in their handling of the crisis so far – something not unhelpful with just over two weeks to go from the local elections. Less helpful is the news that over in Birmingham workers have rejected a pay deal with the Labour-run city council; the bin strike will continue. Is there more the government could be doing to end the dispute? Political editor Katy Balls and former Political Secretary to Tony Blair John McTernan join Patrick Gibbons to discuss. Produced by Patrick Gibbons.

In this powerful episode, I chat with Carissa, a mother of three, about her journey through the medical system and towards an empowered freebirth after two C-sections. Carissa shares her story of resilience and self-advocacy as she faced multiple challenges, including a history of PCOS, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and a series of surgeries. She recounts her experiences of navigating unsupportive systems, including the frustration of her first C-section being booked around her OBGYN's holiday, and the impact of having to choose freebirth due to a lack of supportive homebirth midwives. Carissa's story illustrates the importance of trusting one's body and reclaiming the birth experience. Key Takeaways: Trust Your Body's Wisdom: Carissa's journey shows the power of trusting her body's natural ability to birth. Advocate for Your Choices: Throughout her pregnancies, Carissa learned the importance of questioning decisions and making informed choices, even when medical professionals insisted otherwise. Surrounding Yourself with the Right Support: The lack of supportive homebirth midwives led Carissa to freebirth, supported by her husband and friend. Birth Is a Journey of Self-Discovery: Each birth experience brought Carissa closer to understanding her strength, and her story exemplifies how birth can be a path to self-discovery and healing. Rob discusses the Labour Party's proposed housing reforms, which include a ban on landlords raising rent more than once a year and restrictions on rental bidding wars. He critiques these measures, arguing that they reflect a misunderstanding of market forces and historical lessons regarding price controls. The episode also highlights concerns about the treatment of private landlords compared to social housing landlords, questioning the fairness of the proposed regulations. KEY TAKEAWAYS Labour is looking to implement reforms that would limit landlords to raising rent only once a year and tie any increases to a market rate, which raises concerns about the effectiveness of such price controls. The proposed ban on rental bidding wars and restrictions on landlords accepting housing benefit claimants could suppress the free market, potentially leading to negative consequences for both landlords and renters. There is a perceived disparity in how private landlords and social housing landlords are treated under the proposed regulations, with concerns that social housing issues are being overlooked while private landlords face stricter scrutiny. Abolishing no-fault evictions could create significant delays in the eviction process, leaving landlords vulnerable to financial losses if tenants stop paying rent, as the current court system already has long wait times. There is a strong argument for equal treatment of all landlords, regardless of whether they are private or social, emphasising that both good and bad landlords should be held to the same standards to ensure fairness in the housing market. BEST MOMENTS "Labour are looking to ban landlords from raising rent more than once a year. This is a part of a set of housing reforms that Labour are looking to push through." "If price controls don't work then rental controls are not going to work either. Yet it seems though that the people in charge do not like to look at history." "You're trying to suppress the market. It does not work. What we've got to do is go through years and years of history to show it will not work." "Finding is it seems to be it's one rule for private landlord and one rule for social housing landlord, and that is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned." "Bad landlords should be punished. Absolutely. But bad landlords, whether they're private or social, should be treated the same." In this episode I speak with Brooke, who shares her journey of two contrasting birth experiences – a hospital birth followed by a supported home birth after caesarean (HBAC). Brooke, from Perth, opens up about her first pregnancy, which was unexpected and happened just before COVID hit. She recounts her long and challenging labour, which ended in a caesarean at the hospital. Despite thorough preparation, including hypnobirthing, Brooke faced numerous interventions that left her feeling unsupported and traumatised by the experience. In her second pregnancy, determined to have a different birth, Brooke sought continuity of care through a private midwife after finding out local midwifery programs had stopped accepting VBACs. With the support of her midwives, Brooke navigated her way through her HBAC with a calm and relaxed mindset, allowing her body to do the work. Brooke talks about the importance of trusting your body and the process, especially after her first birth experience was filled with disruptions and unnecessary interventions. She emphasises the value of having continuity of care, particularly with someone who understands your wishes and concerns. This episode offers insight into the reality that birth can take time and that each experience is unique. Brooke's journey highlights how home birth provided her with the space, support, and trust she needed to bring her baby into the world on her own terms. Key Takeaways: Brooke's first birth was a long labour that ended in a caesarean, leaving her feeling defeated and traumatised. For her second birth, Brooke chose to have a home birth with a private midwife, focusing on healing and letting go of expectations. Trusting the process and her body, she successfully gave birth at home, which she describes as a peaceful and empowering experience. Continuity of care with a midwife who understands you is crucial for feeling supported throughout your birth journey. Thank you for tuning in! If you're planning a VBAC or considering a home birth, this episode is a must-listen for insights on how to trust the process and advocate for the birth you desire. Tracing women's experiences of miscarriage and termination for foetal anomaly in the second trimester, before legal viability, shows how such events are positioned as less ‘real' or significant when the foetal being does not, or will not, survive. Invisible Labour: The Reproductive Politics of Second Trimester Pregnancy Loss in England (Berghahn, 2024) by Dr. Aimee Louise Middlemiss describes the reproductive politics of this category of pregnancy loss in England. It shows how second trimester pregnancy loss produces specific medical and social experiences, revealing an underlying teleological ontology of pregnancy. Some women then understand their pregnancy through kinship with the unborn baby. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars.
