"The original recording is of a livestock market in the city of Altay, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. There are men shouting and talking, various noises of a livestock market, and a huge variety of bellowing sounds from the livestock. The animal noises are very musical in their own way, but also wonderfully unique and discordant, and I was inspired to use these sounds as the basis for experimentation as I developed the piece. "Ableton Live is my DAW, and I used some software to convert the audio to midi notes; the 1st half in a chromatic 12 note scale to pick up on the animal bellowing discord, and then in the 2nd half, I used the same software to conform the notes to a pentatonic scale. "I used this midi with ‘conventional' instruments, like a Piano and synth vst. But I also put samples from the field recordings into other vst software that allowed me to manipulate the sample and turn it into a playable instrument; these were the Arturia Synclavier, and Madrona Labs Sumu. "For the drums, I used the Audio-to-Drum feature in Ableton to convert the field recording to drum rack midi, and then used that as the basis for the ‘jazz-drummer workout' drum track. "Finally, I used the field recording in another vst and with effects to try to simulate the ‘Throat Singing' style, which is practised in the Altay region." Livestock market in China reimagined by Bruce Gray.

Knock back a couple shots of Ouzo and spritz some Windex on that skin ailment as we take a deep Mediterranean dip with Nia Vardalos's My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Which is stronger, the Greek American cultural nostalgia emanating off this film, or the inescapable adoration for ultimate romcom lead John Corbett? Are most cultures actually based on guilt and food? And honestly, what is up with the Windex?
Bruce Gray give Shapel and Joel an education on country music and how its evolved into what we have today. Enjoy this episode full of laughs as our musical experts get exposed for knowing nearly nothing about the "lesser known characters" of country music.

Bruce Gray is a well-known gunsmith and competitive shooter who has been involved in the firearms industry for over 40 years. He is known for his expertise in building high-performance custom firearms and has worked with many law enforcement and military agencies to develop custom firearms for their needs. Gray's interest in firearms began in his early teens when he started shooting with his father. He later went on to serve in the United States Army and worked as a police officer in California. During this time, he became increasingly interested in firearms and began tinkering with his own guns, eventually leading him to pursue a career as a gunsmith. Gray has worked with a number of firearms manufacturers over the years, including Kimber, Springfield Armory, and Sig Sauer. He is perhaps best known for his work on 1911-style pistols, which he has customized for competitive shooters, law enforcement agencies, and military units. He is also known for his work on the Sig Sauer P320, which he has modified for competition use. In addition to his work as a gunsmith, Gray is a highly accomplished competitive shooter. He has won numerous national and international shooting competitions, including the Steel Challenge, the USPSA Open Nationals, and the IPSC World Shoot. He is also a sought-after instructor and has trained law enforcement officers and military personnel in the use of firearms. Gray continues to be active in the firearms industry and remains a respected figure in the competitive shooting community. He is known for his attention to detail and his commitment to providing high-quality custom firearms that meet the needs of his clients. In this episode, Bruce talks about: –How he tested the P320 for “out of battery” shooting and what his results were. –What he recommends is the best spring set for shooting the P320. –How he is incorporating new training methods to rethink his shooting. I am delighted to welcome to the podcast Bruce from Left Handed Giant based in Bristol. Left Handed Giant originally started with a beer handed across to Small Bar owners Bruce Gray and Jack Granger. The beer was made by Rich Poole, who eventually set-up shop on on a small kit in the back of the same bar, fermenting the thought of a cuckoo brewery that became Left Handed Giant. From its start in 2014, the brewery grew in stages, first by securing its own premises in the summer of 2017, and more recently in the latter part of 2019 a second, flagship location of a brewpub based in the centre of Bristol in Finzels Reach, overlooking the harbour off the River Avon. https://lefthandedgiant.com/
On this week's episode of the Thirst time, we speak to Bruce Gray. It's our first-ever repeat guest and for good reason. What comes to mind when you think of the Wild West? It might be stories of bank robbers, stagecoach heists, shootouts, and saloons. And usually, these mental images can be attributed to Hollywood's love of embellishing the past. Yet, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. David S. Terry was Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court during the nineteenth century and his story is one of the most wild tales you'll ever hear—complete with duels and one former state Supreme Court justice attacking a U.S. Supreme Court justice. And here we thought 21st century politics were wild. So, let's pony up and head back to California's gold rush era. Bruce is one of the most innovative pistol smiths on the planet and such an interesting guy. This podcast is all over the map, we talk about everything but guns. This episode is the first of its kind on The Damage Done Podcast. This type of episode is going to be a new type of episode that we will release mixed in with our typical format of episodes, which follow a redemption arc. This episode and the ones that follow, are for the purpose of illustrating the historical context of certain inmates Michael Thompson has spent time with, as well as to catalogue Michael Thompson's extensive experience behind the iron gates. These episodes aim to be informative and entertaining to the listener and/or viewer. This episode, aims to dispel the myth of Charles Manson. Michael Thompson spent many years in prison, living in the same unit with Manson and the stories contained in this episode, the perspective given are from Michaels personal experiences.Due to time constraints we only covered a fraction of Michael's experience, depending on the feedback from this episode we may do a part two. Also, comedian Bruce Gray is featured in this episode. Bruce has extensive knowledge of Manson and we all agreed would add some levity to this episode, so before you hop in the comments asking why he is here...that is why he is here! We will continue to improve each and every episode. Thank you to all of our supporters that have helped us surpass 1 million views in under 25 episodes. What a fantastic start!

Hey nerds. This episode, I chat with Kelly Ryan. There is just flat out, no other way to say this: SHE IS A DELIGHT! I met Kelly, I don't know where, in LA at some mic. She was hilarious, as usual. She is super nice. She is humble. She is funny. In this episode, Kelly and I discuss her standup superhero origin story. She also touches on why she and Bruce Gray (another fantastic comedian) moved out of LA during the pandemic. We discuss the standup scene in Portland, which is where she is now. And we talk about whether or not they will be moving back to LA. Kelly also explains her thoughts on the Divine. She was raised religious, kind of. She went to church every week with her parents, but they were rather hush-hush about their beliefs. We discuss Kelly's beliefs at this point in her life. Is she hedging her bets? Maybe. This is a fun episode. I hope you enjoy it. In the very first episode of Swapping Shifts, Brandon sits down with comedian Bruce Gray. Bruce is a Los Angeles based comic who talks to me about being a batboy for a minor league team while living in Bakersfield, CA. Bruce tells a hilarious story about being heckled from the bleachers by a drunk dad for not throwing his kid a baseball. Towards the end of the episode, Bruce also talks about working at The Comedy Store (before the rona hit). You will want to listen just to hear all the names Bruce drops; he has a hilarious encounter with Shia Labeouf and then tells a story that will forever change how you look at Quest Love of the Roots! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandon-bryan2/support

Bruce Gray - Parenting Your Parents by Kevin Tienken
Hilton Yam is a retired FBI Agent who spent a career putting away violent criminals and teaching firearms. He got started in shooting by competing in IPSC and learning about firearms from Bruce Gray. Along the way, Hilton began his work on 1911 guns and eventually formed his company, 10-8 Performance. That company went on to produce handgun sights for a variety of common handguns like Glock and Smith & Wesson MP line. Now that Hilton retired, I was able to sit down and discuss his work as well as get Hilton’s take on handguns and shooting. Links mentioned on the podcast: http://www.10-8performance.com/
Welcome back to the Firearms Nation Podcast. About ten years ago I had the pleasure of being invited to a class devoted to pulling the trigger properly. It was a class on the basics but it wasn’t a basic class. In fact it was as someone coined it “..a PhD in trigger management”. This class also put me in touch with a renowned gunsmith and competitor Bruce Gray. Bruce and I maintained a friendship since that class and I even call him a mentor. And it was at the USPSA National Championship in 2014 when Bruce reached out to me right after the match with a text “Do you want to shoot for Team SIG?” He didn’t have to ask twice. For the next two years I had a blast shooting matches with a great group of guys and gals all running the new P320. That gun is still my competition gun and I also use it for duty. Bruce has always been know as the go to guy to have your SIG or Sig Sauer pistol worked on to make it shoot even better. But since the P320 came around, his business took off with parts for it as well as SIG’s successful LEGION series. His company, Gray Guns, has grown and is in the process of moving to a bigger warehouse. More recently, Bruce dove back into competition and he is revisiting his methodologies that are now over 20 years old. I discuss with Bruce the differences as well as how us, as shooters, can over come our emotions while we shoot. I’ve been writing for GBH for going on two and a half years now. Over that time you may or may not have noticed that I’ve gradually been trying to build a picture of the modern British beer scene. We’ve looked at the likes of Beavertown and Brew By Numbers in London, BrewDog up in Scotland, Cloudwater in Manchester, Magic Rock and Northern Monk in Yorkshire and most recently Lost & Grounded in Bristol. It’s Bristol that we find ourselves in today, or at least, that’s where today’s guest Bruce Gray, and his brewery Left Handed Giant, is based. Gray has worked in the beer industry for a number of years now, working in BrewDog’s bar division before heading to Bristol and setting up a distribution company. He also opened a specialist beer bar called Small Bar, which now has a second site in Cardiff, South Wales. From here he began “cuckoo brewing,” as Gray puts it, under the Left Handed Giant brand. Things snowballed for the fledgling brewery, as they are wont to do in a British market hungry for more young brands like his, and now they’re nestled into a permanent site, brewing 15 barrels at a time. Bristol seems to be the perfect incubator for the ambitious plans for his brewery. It’s perhaps because Gray has had the opportunity to work at all ends of the chain that he’s able to articulate his experiences within the beer industry so well. He does so regularly on his brewery's blog, where he’s earned a reputation for being honest and forthright. On this podcast he’s no different, giving in-depth opinions on issues such as the much-debated price of beer. He also gives his opinions on CAMRA as well as SIBA, the Society for Independent Brewers, which is the closest equivalent the UK has to America’s Brewers Association. We have a great conversation here that covers all of the above and more. Listen in.
Pat Mills and Face2Face host David Peck talk about his new film Don’t Talk To Irene, gender disparity, bullying, random ideas, freedom and non-conformity and why Geena Davis portraying God is important. Biography Pat Mills’s first feature film, the dark comedy GUIDANCE, which he wrote, directed and starred in, had its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. Picked up by Strand Releasing in the US and Search Engine Films in Canada, Guidance was theatrically released in Summer 2015. Hailed as a “GRADE A” comedy by the Los Angeles Times and a New York Times Crit ics’s Pick, it currently holds a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Guidance is now available on DVD, Netflix, Vimeo, Amazon, TMN, HBO and itunes. His performance as David was nominated for an Actra Award for Outstanding Male Performance. An alumnus of TIFF’s Talent lab and TIFF Studio, Pat was named winner of TIFF’s Pitch This! for his second feature DON’T TALK TO IRENE. The screenplay won BEST COMEDY SCREENPLAY at the Austin Screenplay Competition. The film stars Michelle McLeod, Bruce Gray, Scott Thompson and Geena Davis. More at www.pat-mills.com Synopsis Irene is 16, fat, friendless and tired of being a loser, but she’s determined that this year is going to be different — Irene is going to become a cheerleader. But when she’s the victim of a cruel prank, Irene is suspended on her first day back at school Irene - along with bullies Robbie and Sarah - and must endure two weeks of community service at the local retirement home. Irene befriends Charles, a depressed retired boxer who figuratively punches away her low self esteem. In his own grumpy way he convinces her to follow her dreams and instead of becoming a cheerleader, she becomes the next best thing — a choreographer. She signs the seniors up to audition for her favourite reality show “Total Talent Showdown”. Keeping the plan a secret from her mother, Irene finds confidence for the first time in her bond with the seniors, teaching them how to dance for television broadcast. What she doesn’t know is that a very jealous Robbie and Sarah are secretly plotting their revenge—and they will stop at nothing to kill Irene’s dreams of reality show stardom. Bruce Gray is a master level gunsmith, competitive shooter and reserve deputy sheriff. He has worked in the firearms world for over 40 years. Bruce is known as the guy who makes your SigSauer pistol sing, in fact he just released a new trigger for the highly successful striker fired Sig P320 (which just won the new Army pistol contract). Bruce stared working on guns when he was 16 years old and then began competing in International Pistol Shooting Confederation (IPSC) and then United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) when it formed. He rose as a sponsored shooter to the level of grandmaster and now teaches other shooters not only “how” to shoot but how to control your emotions when shooting. He was also featured on the 2016 Shooter's Summit. Bruce lives in Oregon where is takes a few free seconds to serve as a reserve deputy sheriff. I catch up with Bruce at the 2017 SHOT Show. He hasn’t been on vacation in years, but if he did, he’d miss what he does every day too much. There’s still so much to create. Bruce Gray is a prolific artist whose work has been exhibited worldwide, has appeared in over 45 books and countless times on television, in movies, and in the press. And yes, that was his magnetic sculpture you saw in Doctor Evil’s lair from the movie, Austin Powers (One of my personal favorites). Being in his shop is like a trip down the rabbit hole with giant robots, metal paper planes, alligator tables and giant pieces of cheese. And that’s just the start. Before he took the plunge and became the artist he is today, Bruce had some fascinating adventures such as a stint in the military serving in the isolated, hauntingly beautiful Aleutian Islands. Each step he took brought him closer to realizing that his true calling was to become that kid in shop class who gets to dream big, take chances and build amazing things with his hands. Bruce works in a wide range of styles and mediums which include abstract painting, functional art, giant objects, abstract and figurative sculptures, found object assemblages, and various forms of kinetic art including mobiles, rolling ball machines, suspended magnet sculptures, and more. Hear his story and how he’s managed to create a life of play - every day.
