In Orpheus, Buffy/Angel crossover S4 E15, Angelus and Faith battle it out and Willow comes to L.A. to try to restore Angel's soul. Along with the recap, this podcast episode focuses on: (1) Seemingly separate storylines that converge into one gripping plot; (2) how to use multiple characters as the antagonist and a group as a protagonist; (3) whether Willow is a different character on Angel than she is in Buffy Season 7; and (4) how dramatic irony adds tension and keeps the audience engaged. We'll be taking a couple weeks to get things ready for a very VERY big season 4. Just wait until you see what we have in store for every horror fans favourite month of year. I'm so excited I could just burst! Like that guy in “Scanners”. What are some other movies where someone just bursts? Anyway, thank you to our amazing team and our sponsors, Audio Process and Cinema 1, for another season of sitting down with horrors best and brightest and spilling guts. Now, let's get into it.For any actor, playing a major character on a tv series that not only garners tons of adoring fans but also enters into the pop culture zeitgeist and becomes a phenomenon is a major achievement. Especially when their character is a particular fan favourite and ends up in video games, comic books, made into toys and more. Then you add the element of that series enduring the test of time to become inarguably classic television.I'll one up that now. How about doing that twice? Our guest in this episode has a vast filmography of dynamic and versatile roles but her performance as vampire Darla on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and its spinoff series “Angel” and as “Rita”, the wife of everyones favourite serial killer on the Showtime sensation “Dexter”, have made her a true genre star.In this episode we are joined by the radiant and brilliant Julie Benz!Julie sat down to talk with me about getting her start working on the George Romero produced, Dario Argento directed segment of the film “Two Evil Eyes”, when she realized that Buffy was becoming an important series, the benefits of working on two shows back to back that both had stars, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz respectively, that were also great leaders. We talk about the excitement of getting cast to work opposite a virtuosic actor like Michael C. Hall and be a part of a critical darling like Dexter but also the heartbreak and feeling of betrayal that came later when she was written off the show.I have to say that personally I have been a longstanding fan of Julie's being a hardcore Buffy/Angel fan and then later a “Dexter” devotee. Julie is the kind of actor and person that anyone who speaks to people about their craft as a profession dreams of having as a guest. As thoughtful as she is open and real and man, is she ever a lovely human being. Ladies and gentleman, Julie Benz! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

After 3 years, Rachel has finally done it. She's finally managed to leverage the power of her birthday to get Lauren to watch all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even better, Lauren enjoyed herself. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RACHEL INDEED. As the episode title suggests, Rachel refused to pick characters, so instead of getting multiple episodes out of her favorite show, she chose to sort everyone under the sun (and not. Because of the vampires. Get it?). As you can imagine, this episode is well into two hours long. But never fear, we are extremely funny people. So grab your stakes and hope on the bus, we're heading to Sunnydale, the Hellmouth, a fact everyone there knows upon voluntarily choosing to live there. Shit's about to get weird!
This week, Buffy and Cordelia are invited to a frat party where they'll dance, have a merry time and make it home safe and sound. Or will they? Listen in as we dissect more Buffy/Angel relationship drama and watch the episode for the best snake monster prosthetics we've seen so far.

January 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the releases of the first three Target novelizations. Happy Birthday to Doctor Who novels! My guest this week, and it's a fun, wide-ranging chat, is fan favorite Pete Lambert (@Prof_Quiteamess). Fresh off his appearance discussing "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" on another podcast, Pete has several fresh takes about the way Buffy/Angel and Doctor Who have influenced each other over the years, and we detour to a brief lovefest about "House, M.D.". The story of the week is "Nightmare of Eden", Bob Baker's final "Doctor Who" script before departing to the world of Wallace and Gromit, and this is the final novelization of any of his stories. How does the TV production differ from Baker's intended story? And how does the great Terrance Dicks bring the story back to basics? Pete will have his hands full with a game of "Guess That Cliffhanger". "Doctor Who and the Nightmare of Eden" features cover art by Andrew Skilleter. We're all a little obsessed with “Buffy.” The demon-hunting, vampire-slaying heroine captured our attention in the late 90s — along with the man behind the series, Joss Whedon. His Whedonverse of hits includes everything from “Angel,” “Firefly” and “Dollhouse” to the DC and Marvel universes. But in recent years, the person we thought of as a feminist icon in Hollywood has been accused of toxic and inappropriate behavior. Recently, he addressed the various allegations in a Vulture article, and he admitted many things that we can't unread. Now that we know what we know, should we look at the Whedonverse differently? Then, we remember Andre Leon Talley, the cape-wearing fashion icon who taught us about style. You'll hear from: Caroline Framke, chief TV critic for Variety. Robin Givhan, senior critic at large for the Washington Post. Want more Skimm? Who are you asking to the Sadie Hawkins Dance? In I Only Have Eyes For You, students and faculty all over Sunnydale High are recreating an infamous fight in which a student shot a teacher he was having an affair with. Now the student's ghost is haunting the school, possessing people, and forcing them to act out the deadly altercation. Kristen and Mike discuss the way James & Ms. Newman's relationship parallels Buffy & Angel's, and the obvious signs of Xander's mental instability. Next up is Go Fish. The Sunnydale Swim Team is having a great season, but their star swimmers are mysteriously being skinned. After Xander whitnesses a "fish guy" standing over a swimmer's remains, the Scoobies assume the monster is killing the swimmers. Buffy tries to protect the remaining star swimmer while Xander joins the team to "fish out" whether or not the members are taking steroids. Kristen and Mike discuss passing athletes who aren't meeting a GPA minimum, and the coach's concern for the boys' "other needs".
