Send us an email or reach out to us on social media or on the RetroZap discord! The two hosts also bumped into artist and former StarToons animator, Dave Pryor at Comic Con! Audio from their quick meeting is shared. Finally, take some time to listen to listen to the "80's Cartoons" panel that Joey and Nathan attended. There's some great behind the scenes stories from some classic 80 cartoons. Plus, lots more examples of how network executives often have no idea what they're talking about! This week, we chat about Tiny Toon Adventures (and a lot about Animaniacs). Do the exploits of Babs and Buster Bunny (no relation) at Acme Looniversity hold up? I dunno, maybe.
THEY’RE TINY, THEY’RE TOONY, THEY’RE BACK FOR A REBOOT-Y! Babs, Buster Bunny and the rest of the Acme Acres gang are back and headed to college. HBO Max and Cartoon Network have handed a two-season, straight-to-series order for Tiny Toons Looniversity from Warner Bros. Animation, Amblin Television and returning executive producer Steven Spielberg. Tiny Toons Looniversity is one of several new series ordered by HBO MaxContinue reading "Tiny Toons Looniversity"
Julia and Geoffrey watch the first episode of Tiny Toons Adventures.Image description: Babs and Buster Bunny popping out of a rainbow ring with the words Tiny Toon Adventures. Here’s Geoffrey’s summary: TinyToonAdventures, if I remember correctly, was part of the "Kids shows with younger versions of the originals to make the kids like it more even though the characters were for kids shows to begin with so why is that necessary?" run of shows. This was more high-class though, because it had pedigree. It was sort of the bridge between traditional Looney Toonsand the Animaniacs. There were versions of each old-school character and they went to school and had adventures, and I don't remember much of what they did. Oh, and I felt very clever for figuring out that the human girl who was overly affectionate was the updated version of Hugo the Abominable Snowman."and Julia’s:Babs and Buster Bunny are twins who live in Acme Acres with a cast of other small tooncharacters including a duck girl? Webigail??? And a human girl named Elmyra who wants to smother fuzzy things with too much affection. I remember feeling super cool for getting some of the references, and especially for already knowing They Might Be Giants before i saw this cartoon because I was a super nerd who listened to the album Lincoln a lot in like 5th grade...What were we wrong about? Several things. Babe and Buster? Not related! Webbigail? From Ducktales! Julia remembers loving this show as a kid, but as adults… we were both underwhelmed. What do you think? Did you love this? Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain, or Freakazoid! Today, your hosts talk about a classic episode of Tiny Toon Adventures that features a parody of Ninja Turtles and lots of tips for anyone that want to be cool! Mr. Popular's Rules of Cool Hamton goes to Mr. Popular (a.k.a. Buster Bunny) to ask for some tips on being cool. Buster and Babs try to show Hamton some tips on fashion, music and self confidence. In the end it turns out Hamton doesn't really need their help and turns out to be a natural DJ! Slugfest It's a classic Tiny Toons parody of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featuring the Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs. Plucky and Hamton decide to be samurais just like their favorite TV show slugs. Unfortunately it results with them being hit on the head repeatedly and then chased around the country by the Iodizer! The hosts discuss their favorite moments from this episode and their memories of watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as kids. Joey even brings out an old photo album where he saved clippings of Ninja Turtles jokes and drawings that could be found in the packaging of the toys. Venison Anyone? Montana Max thinks that hunting deer is cool but a young buck named Vinnie disagrees. Vinnie mocks Montana and makes his hunting trip a disaster. Many of the bits are inspired by Bugs Bunny shorts. The cartoon is pretty harmless but not hilarious. The hosts discuss how cartoons featuring humor with guns would probably not be featured in cartoons these days. Join the Party! A veteran activist's guide to direct action and strategic civil disobedience as the most radical and rapid means to social change For decades, Lisa Fithian’s work as an advocate for civil disobedience and nonviolent direct action has put her on the frontlines of change. Described by Mother Jones as “the nation’s best-known protest consultant,” Fithian has supported countless movements including the Battle of Seattle in 1999, rebuilding and defending communities following Hurricane Katrina, Occupy Wall Street, and the uprisings at Standing Rock and in Ferguson. For anyone who wants to become more active in resistance or is just feeling overwhelmed or hopeless, Shut It Down offers strategies and actions you can take right now to promote justice and incite change in your own community. In Shut It Down Fithian shares historic, behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most important people-powered movements of the past several decades. She shows how movements that embrace direct action have always been, and continue to be, the most radical and rapid means for transforming the ills of our society. Shut It Down is filled with instructions and inspiration for how movements can evolve as the struggle for social justice continues in the Trump era and beyond. While recognizing that electoral politics, legislation, and policy are all important pathways to change, Shut It Down argues that civil disobedience is not just the only action that remains when all else fails, but a spiritual pursuit that protects our deepest selves and allows us to reclaim our humanity. Change can come, but only if we’re open to creatively, lovingly, and strategically standing up, sometimes at great risk to ourselves, to protect what we love. give it a'listen Wowza--this episode was a teensie bit tough for a couple reasons. Candace has personal experience with an action/protest from the book, which was traumatic and the memories carry a lot of feelings with them. Ash didn't finish the book because figured out midway through recording that she's stressed AND depressed (surprise!) and that's why she never wants to read anymore. Woof! But no fear: we also talk possumkratom69 and Tiny Toons, so it ain't all a bummer. Mentioned Links We mentioned possumkratom69 and their cool memes. Turns out we aren't the only fans, either, Vox wrote a lil' bit about them.Info on the Standing Rock dickbag who fired a gun at a protest and drove his truck into a crowd of protesters. We're fundraising for the Osage Nation Foundation through our Facebook page. The donation link is posted to the top of the PMAB page, so you can't miss it! It's the season of giving so consider donating to a worthy cause, yeah?Want some levity? Wanna know which Tiny Toons character you are??? DUH don't be dumb, of course you wanna know! (Psst...Ash is Buster Bunny. Candace's results are still pending.) Buster Bunny and his friends are having a dress up day at school. Their teacher has brought costumes for them to dress up as people who lived a long time ago. They need to choose a costume and then make something to share with the class. They’re all excited to get started.
Buster Bunny loves to read and now his teacher has asked him to write a story. He is excited to get started but he can’t think of anything to write about. He grabs his notebook and heads out with his friends to look for ideas.
It's been a while since Ben and Zane checked in with Buster Bunny. Time had not treated him well. The disillusionment of adolescence left him ripe for distraction and the glory of mob mentality. He fell in with the wrong crowd, started disrespecting his momma, and filled his dissatisfaction of the underclass with lewd distractions and senseless violence. If only he would listen to us say that in a race war, there is no victor.
