It is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. Hey there friends and weirdos! This week Jules fills in for Kyle as we tackle a UFO documentary mini-series put out by Netflix by way of Amblin Television. We discuss the two cases involved in these episodes - the Dublin/Stephenville mass UFO sighting and the Ariel School UFO case - and how they're presented by the documentary. Jules gets to learn how UFO cases handle information from law enforcement and the frustrating lack of proof for anything. Most important of all is the question: does Jules want to finish this docuseries based off the first 2 episodes?

LOOP 8.1: Dave and Tom introduce episode 8 and round of this special series on Life On Our Planet. We talk about our favourite scenes and reflect on our time working on the documentary and how our perspectives of documentary making has changed. We'd love your feedback on this podcast series. Life On Our Planet (LOOP) is a new 8-part series created for Netflix by Silverback Films and Amblin Television. This Steven Spielberg produced series, narrated by Morgan Freeman, is hugely ambitious in its scope, telling the story of life throughout the whole Phanerozoic Eon. Ancient organisms and environments are painstakingly recreated by the supremely talented Industrial Light and Magic, whilst modern natural history scenes add vital context to the story. This show has been worked on for six years, during which time countless papers were read and around 150 different palaeontologists contributed their time and knowledge. The whole production had culture of letting the scientific rese arch dictate scenes, resulting in one of the most accurate on-screen representations of prehistoric life there has ever been. And how do we know all this? Well, our very own team members Tom Fletcher and Dave Marshall have been embedded within the LOOP team since day one! We are therefore in a totally unique position to reveal to you the work that went into this series, from both the production and research side of things. In this unofficial series, we've been granted exclusive access to many of the people responsible for creating LOOP, we explore what it takes to create a palaeontological documentary and we delve deeper into the science with some of the show's academic advisors. Each day, we will be releasing batches of interviews, each relating to a specific episode of LOOP. Image courtesy and copyright of Netflix.

We explore the periodicity of glacials and interglacials and the control Earth's orbit around the sun has on climate. She then places the Holocene's megafaunal extinctions and major palaeobiogeograpical events within this climatic context. We finally look at the impact of human radiation on the world and the lessons we can learn from this time. We speak about climate change and the 6th mass extinction and try to find any positives. Ultimately, if documentaries keep having to make this point, is the message really getting through?

LOOP 2.2: Prof. Christian Klug, University of Zurich, is our first academic guest. He introduces us to the Cambrian explosion, the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event and the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction. Christian is an expert on cephalopods and he tells us more about their biology and his thoughts on the vertical orientation of Cameroceras in this series. The whole production had culture of letting the scientific research dictate scenes, resulting in one of the most accurate on-screen representations of prehistoric life there has ever been. And how do we know all this? Well, our very own team members Tom Fletcher and Dave Marshall have been embedded within the LOOP team since day one! We are therefore in a totally unique position to reveal to you the work that went into this series, from both the production and research side of things. In this series, we've been granted exclusive access to many of the people responsible for creating LOOP, we explore what it takes to create a palaeontological documentary and we delve deeper into the science with some of the show's academic advisors. We will be releasing batches of interviews, each relating to an episode of LOOP. In episode 1.1, we introduce ourselves and explain our roles in the documentary. We look forward to the release of the series and discuss the scope of episode 1 and some of the 'rules of life'. Images courtesy of Netflix.

In LOOP 1.2 we are joined by showrunner Dan Tapster. He's the one responsible for pulling everything together, designing the story and creating the best production team. We learn about how LOOP first got started, why both CGI and modern footage was used, and how to cram billions of years of evolution into just 8 episodes.   Life On Our Planet (LOOP) is a new 8-part series created for Netflix by Silverback Films and Amblin Television. Are We Alone? UFO Encounters from around the World

Welcome to the first episode of the fifth season of Factual America! Joining host Matthew Sherwood is Yon Motskin, the director of Encounters, a new Netflix docu-series about four UFO/alien encounters from around the world. Encounters tells a story that is both epic and intimate in its range. It not only explores what occurred when a diverse range of witnesses – including school children, hoteliers, law enforcement officials, and rescue workers – came face-to-face with the seemingly impossible, but what happened afterwards to them, and those who investigated their stories. Some were able to move on; others, though, were bullied, faced ridicule, and professional ruin. All, though, have stuck to their stories. Matthew and Yon discuss what happened to the witnesses, their credibility or otherwise, and the profound differences between the interpretation of UFO sightings in Japan versus the US. They look at the nature of belief, and how what we believe can define our understanding of what UFOs may be. Yon also shares his appreciation for the involvement of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television in the making of the film. For Yon, Encounters is fundamentally ‘a human story' with themes such as ‘consciousness and communication' at its core. Whether you are interested in UFOs, psychology, mysteries, or the workings of the human heart, this is an episode for you. Watch the episode at https://factualamerica.com “I believe that they believe. Now, if whatever they say happened or not, I wasn't there, so, I couldn't tell you, but it's hard to discount... it's not one person in their backyard seeing something. It's dozens, and in many cases, hundreds of people all seeing the same thing, at the same time.” – Yon Motskin

On this week's podcast, Mike Manolo returns to watch some brand promotions with The Looney Tunes dating all the way back to the 50's! During the Bugs Bunny Show, subsequently retitled, The Bugs Bunny and Road Runner Show; then finally The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, brand commercials were created to advertise Tang, Alphabits and Koo-laid to kids! Surprisingly these commercials are very well done, due a large part to the fact that Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Robert McKimsom and even Tex Avery returned to work on them!  And of course Mel Blanc was there to provide those familiar voices. NEWS ACROSS THE LOONIVERSE: The award winning concert that was supposed to premier in Los Angeles in the new Peacock Theater has now been POSTPONED! We do not know when this will be resolved, but keep it right here for updates! The Tiny Toons Looniversity Panel has been transformed to just a screening at SDCC this year. We were supposed to have all of the newly announced cast take the stage, but now it'll just be a screening of the episodes. While we are bummed, we understand the reasoning and our hearts are with those SAG-AFTRA Members who worked on the show and are currently striking. The series is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation.  GAY PUR-EE (1962) Dir. Abe Levitow Written by Dorothy Jones and Chuck Jones This release is set to include 3 Newly restored Looney Tunes cartoons; For Scent-imental Reasons, French Rarebit and Louvre Come Back. Two of those are Pepe LePew cartoons! THIS MEANS PROMOS: From line-dancing to LeAnn Rimes to sporting the latest flip phone in 2003, the Looney Tunes have sure made their way around the Brand Marketplace as promotion artists. The voice talent included Joe Alaskey, Mel Blanc, Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson and even Mel's son, Noel Blanc during these years of endorsment. From TARGET to WAL-MART and from KOOL-AID to TANG, the Looney Tunes sure could sell product. Something Dan Romanelli taught us a few years back when we was first on and sold carrot cake baked goods with Bugs' famous namesake. If you haven't seen these commercials, you're in luck! They're all on youtube and surprisingly in good quality! I highly recommend checking them out when you can. Something else they did surprisingly well was mix live action elements alongside the cartoon characters interacting with them. The techniques seen on display above helped filmmakers Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg when they made Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). Many of the commercials spoken about during this episode stemmed from The promotions in between the cartoons of The Bugs Bunny Show (1959-1969) Want to support the podcast? This week's guest is Deanna Barillari, who is a dear friend and also a great mentor to Jessica Kantor's son.  Deanna is my first guest that doesn't have children of her own but is very important in other children's lives.   It took me two years to have my son. And there was a big chance that I wasn't going to have one, and I still wanted to make an impact on the next generation the best way that I knew how. I definitely don't want this to feel like a club childless people are not a part of because every action we do affects the next generation. Deanna Barillari has fifteen years of development and production experience across film and television based in LA and NY, with a passion for stories and those who tell them. Most recently, Deanna produced Chelsea Peretti's upcoming directorial debut, FIRST TIME FEMALE DIRECTOR, for FOX alongside Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite Productions. Deanna is a Sundance Creative Producing, Catalyst, Film Independent Project Involve, and IFP Cannes Producing Fellow. Feature credits include IFC's MONDAY by Argyris Papadimitropolous starring Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough (Tribeca 2020, TIFF 2020), Sony's LONG WEEKEND by Steve Basilone starring Finn Wittrock and Zoe Chao, and multiple music videos for acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Currently,  Deanna is also developing a television series with Daniel Radcliffe, Lord Miller, and Amblin Television based on Kurt Vonnegut's short stories.Films discussed in this episode include:AnnieEmmet Otter's Jug-Band ChristmasBack to the FutureJurassic ParkTommy BoyCluelessThat Thing You DoDaisy Jones and the SixNashvilleGreaseGuys and DollsFootlooseBlack SwanUncle BuckLittle Shop of HorrorsGooniesDazed and ConfusedCast AwayLicorice PizzaJosie and the PussycatsCrazy Ex-GirlfriendSingin in the RainA Star is BornTick,Tick.., BOOM!Rent  New Episodes Every Wednesday!EPISODE CREDITS:Host, Producer, Editor: Jessica KantorBooker: Noelia MurphyBe sure to follow and tag Raising Cinephiles on Instagram
