An episode from East River Baptist Church, a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located on the Northeast side of Houston, Texas.   East River Baptist Church's (ERBC) mission as an assembly is threefold: - To Exalt the Saviour! Eph. 3:21 - To Edify the Saints! Eph. 4:16 - To Evangelize the Sinners! Lk 24:47   What ERBC believes about the Scriptures: “We believe that the scriptures of both Old and New Testament are verbally inspired of God, that they are the supreme and final authority for faith and practice, and are preserved in the Authorized Version (KJV 1611) of the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16. Psalm 12:6-7.”   What ERBC believes about God: “We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That God is supreme in His person, absolute in His attributes, glorious in His perfection, and eternal in His being. 1 John 5:7.”   What ERBC believes about Jesus: “We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ. His conception by the Holy Spirit, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His exaltation at God's right hand, and His personal imminent, pre-millennial, and pre-tribulation return. Matthew 1:20. 2 Corinthians 1:21. Ephesians 1:7. Luke 24:6, 39. 1 Timothy 2:5.”   What ERBC believes about Holy Spirit: “We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, one with the Father and the Son, the indweller of every believer to enlighten, guide, and enable him in life, testimony, and service, and seal each believer until the day of redemption of the body. John 15:26. John 14:7”   What ERBC believes about man: “We believe that God created man in His image and likeness (a triune being: spirit, soul, and body) in a state of innocence's, but through temptation, he willingly transgressed, became dead in trespasses and sins. As a result, his posterity (all men) inherited a corrupt nature, are born in sin, and are under condemnation. Genesis 1:26. Psalm 51:5. Romans 5:12.”   A message from ERBC to you: “If you are looking for a church in the Houston Texas area that preaches the Truth from God's Word, reach out to us at any time. After a personal experience with the terrors of the trafficking industry, Amanda committed her life to helping parents and young people stay safe and working to end human trafficking for good.    Amanda Florczykowski is an intrinsic lover of risk, progress, and people. Her ability to merge all three embodies her personal mission. Her love for women, her desire to see families strengthened, and her unabashed faith in Christ Jesus have led her to found Able Moms International - an organization for busy moms of 0 through 6th grade children to mother capable, unshakeable, and memorable. She also founded Legacy Academy - a University-Model® School. As a degreed communicator, Amanda's professional career was as both an educator and top marketing professional for an industry leader where she continuously held one of three top sales rankings. She is also an avid researcher of child sex trafficking studying predominately trends that threaten children in America. She blogs at AmandaFlo.com and has authored the #1 bestseller, Unraveled: Mothering Fiercely in a World Full of Fears currently available on Amazon in e-book, audio, or print. Spiritual Gifts and the Church with Matt Lantz | Ep. 89

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Matt Lantz about serving the Body of Christ with our spiritual gifts. Matt gave us an overview of the purpose and function of each of the spiritual gifts and how we can go about identifying our gifts and use them to serve in our local churches. What’s the purpose of stewarding our gifts for the glory of God?   Matt is a husband, father, and pastor who lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and three children. He’s a graduate of TCU and Dallas Theological Seminary and has been working in full-time ministry since 2000 preparing the way for the Lord Jesus in the lives of men and women. Matt was the founding director of a discipleship program called the Forge at Pine Cove where he spent 12 years helping young men and women learn their identity and steward it well. He has recently moved on from the Forge and is now serving as the Recruitment and Development Pastor and the Associate Pastor of the West Campus at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, TX.   MATT’S RESOURCES Talk to your church Serve Ask a mentor for their insight   DEVELOPING AN IDENTITY STATEMENT “It’s less about crafting a cool sounding statement, than it is about understanding in humility who you are and how God designed you (Ephesians 2:10). The identity statement is essentially not a discovery of who you are as much as a declaration of what God has done in creating you. You cannot do that by yourself.” With the help of others, begin to determine these three elements of an identity statement: You are designed in this way… To work with these kinds of people… To accomplish this goal “An identity statement is a statement about design, who the design is for, and what the design is meant to accomplish specifically for the kingdom within the Body of Christ.”   CONNECT WITH MATT Website Instagram Twitter   DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What are spiritual gifts? What are the areas in your life that you are naturally good at that you find yourself using for your own purposes? How can knowing that help you see your spiritual gifts? What spiritual gifts do you see in the lives of those around you? What gifts have others seen in you over the course of your life as a Christian? What would it look like to grow in and develop your gifts for the glory of God? What are you going to do or implement as a result of what you’ve learned this week?   SPONSORSHIP DETAILS Marriage After God is led by Aaron and Jennifer Smith who have a new book out called Marriage After God! On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I brought back one of your all-time favorite guests, Matt Lantz! We talked about fear and what happens when our fear is misplaced. I talked about my own wrestle with fear of man and per usual, Matt blew my mind, like when he said, “I’m reminded when I am afraid of something that I am not God. I don’t command anything. And I’m mortal. I can die, I can be hurt. I think God gave us the emotion of fear because he’s the only one worthy of it.” Matt also shares how we can help one another out as friends by reminding one another of the only One who is worthy of our fear. We fear Him because He is good, He commands things, and that He is commanding things for our good, and that He can even do that at our request. So you’ll know him a little better, Matt is a husband, father, and pastor who lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and three children.
